Most people spend their entire lives avoiding physical altercations, but in Miguel’s case, all he can think about is giving someone the gift of chin music in the Hulu Original film Miguel Wants to Fight. Hulu debuted the first Miguel Wants to Fight trailer on Tuesday, teasing the next film from American High. The light-hearted coming-of-age comedy taps into the curse of peer pressure, self-doubt, and the mystery of knowing if you can hold your own in a schoolyard scuffle.
Here’s the official synopsis for Miguel Wants to Fight:
Despite living in a neighborhood where fighting is stitched into the fabric of everyday life, high school junior Miguel (Tyler Dean Flores) has never found himself in one. And, to be honest, he’s perfectly fine with that. But when a combination of events turn his life upside down, Miguel and his three best friends —the stoic David...

Fans of the Sandman know it’s often feast or famine when the comedic superstar steps away from his traditional juvenile humor. The highs are high, and the lows are low. For every “The Meyerowitz Stories,” there’s “The Cobbler;” for every “Uncut Gems,” a “Reign on Me.” “Hustle,” the latest output from Adam Sandler’s longstanding deal with streaming giant Netflix, marks his rare personal project to occupy a middle ground between these two poles: fulfilling and frustrating in fits and starts.

When Michael Rapaport signed on to play shoe mogul Steve Madden in a TV project based on Madden’s life, the pair soon realized they had a lot in common — and began trading ideas on how to actually get into business together. That has led to the formation of 212Works, a new production company that Rapaport and Madden have launched to develop film, TV and digital projects.
“We met and hit it off,” Rapaport says. “I have a lot of respect for what he accomplished in business. But getting to know him, I think we’re on the same page about creating content. And I find him very inspiring.”
Madden returns the compliment, noting that he’s been a fan of Rapaport going back to films like “Zebrahead” and “True Romance.” “Turn on the TV and he’s in every movie,” Madden says. “And he has a second life as a basketball fanatic extraordinaire.

This review of “Stillwater” was first published after its premiere at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival.
Four years after actor-writer-director Tom McCarthy rebounded from the dismal critical reception of “The Cobbler” to Oscar glory with “Spotlight,” he finally stepped back behind the camera, following up his acclaimed journalism drama with… “Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made,” a family comedy that premiered on Disney+ last year that you almost certainly didn’t see.
And for his follow-up to that film, the man with the least predictable career in Hollywood came up with “Stillwater,” a genre-agnostic semi-thriller that was greeted with cheers and applause at its well-received Cannes Film Festival premiere in early July.
Neatly mirroring its director’s style and signature, “Stillwater” is nigh impossible to pin down, taking the broad contours of a stoic-dad-who’ll-stop-at-nothing-to save-his-daughter thriller and subverting them, filling them with so much texture, humor and emotional attention that the...

that bakes a dad-on-a-mission thriller together with a heartwarming fish-out-of-water story and then a brutal crime drama before glazing the whole thing with a marvelously goateed Matt Damon, Tom McCarthy’s “Stillwater” is the kind of original Hollywood production that would make you say “they don’t make them like that anymore” if only they had ever made them quite this way in the first place. That it’s a French co-production surely accounts for a portion of the film’s structural oddness — several plot points feel lost in translation, even if the whole thing somehow manages to still make sense — but quirks of financing can only go so far to explain a 140-minute transatlantic saga that’s equal parts “Taken,” “Paddington,” and “Prisoners,” one after the other.
No movie with that particular genetic makeup is going to be all that subtle, and McCarthy — who co-wrote the script with Thomas Bidegain,...

It seems like you can’t navigate through any of Netflix’s menus or functions without stumbling across at least one Adam Sandler movie, with the actor becoming an almost ubiquitous presence on the streaming service since first signing an exclusive deal to produce a string of original films that are generally terrible, but also hugely popular with subscribers.
Netflix plan on riding the Sandler gravy train for a while yet, too, following reports that they’re keen to tie the 53 year-old down for even longer even though the two sides only renewed their agreement in January of this year, with Happy Madison Productions picking up $275 million for their near-constant contributions to the Top 10 most-watched list.
The past few years have shown both sides of Sandler, with the critically-acclaimed Uncut Gems featuring his undoubted talents as a dramatic actor, while Murder Mystery saw him revert back to type and headline...

Pact comes as actor-comedian rides high on critical acclaim for Uncut Gems.
Netflix has struck another four-film renewal deal with Adam Sandler as the service unleashed a volley of larger-than-life statistics, claiming among other things that subscribers have spent two billion hours watching Sandler’s films since 2015.
The pact with Sandler and his Happy Madison Productions follows an original four-film deal in 2014 that was itself renewed for a further four in 2017.
The arrangement comes at a fortuitous time for the actor and comic as he rides high on critical acclaim for his award-winning role as a New York jeweller in A24’s Uncut Gems.

Netflix's latest buzzy show is Russian Doll, a dark comedy following Nadia, a woman stuck in a twisty Groundhog Day loop: she keeps reliving her 36th birthday party - and dying at the end of every loop. Star and creator Natasha Lyonne is a familiar face to Netflix viewers for her longtime role on Orange Is the New Black, and she's brought along a few other Oitnb alumni to join her on her own series. Among the familiar faces is "Beatrice," the girlfriend of Nadia's fellow time-loop victim Alan.
Beatrice is played by Dascha Polanco, who will most definitely be recognizable to fans of Orange Is the New Black. Since the flagship Netflix original comedy began in 2013, she has played inmate Daya Diaz. During the first two seasons, Polanco was a recurring character, but she was promoted to a series regular for the third season in 2015; she has kept this status ever since.

Chicago – Orange Day is Friday… as in “Orange is the New Black.” That’s when Season Six will be available for download from Netflix, as the online series continues to showcase the women inmates at Litchfield Penitentiary, three of whom are played by Taylor Schilling (Piper), Kate Mulgrew (Red) and Dascha Polanco (Daya).
The three actors came to Chicago to promote “Orange is the New Black” (also known as Oitnb) as it keeps its status as a go-to download, and is often cited as the first “binge” series in TV history. Created by Jenji Kohan, the multiple award-winning series revolves around Piper Chapman (Schilling), a woman in her 30s who is sentenced to minimum security prison at the fictional Litchfield. She was railroaded into the joint by her on-again-off-again lover Alex (Laura Prepon), and her indictment and imprisonment has been the catalyst for exploring the lives inside Litchfield for five seasons.

In the past week, two women have publicly accused Dustin Hoffman of sexual harassment, allegations which have renewed interest in Meryl Streep’s nearly-four-decade-old claim that her “Kramer vs. Kramer” co-star introduced himself by grabbing her breast. Slate tracked down a Time article from 1979 — the year the film came out — in which Streep recalls auditioning for a play Hoffman was directing. “He came up to me and said, ‘I’m Dustin — burp — Hoffman,’ and he put his hand on my breast,” the actress told Time. “What an obnoxious pig, I thought.”

Per Jeff Lenburg’s 2001 book “Dustin Hoffman: Hollywood’s Antihero,” the play was “All Over Town,” which debuted on Broadway in late 1974, when Streep was 25. Later that decade, the actors notoriously battled on Robert Benson’s “Kramer vs. Kramer” set, where they played divorcing parents.

Amid all the poorly received Netflix Originals, let us not forget that Adam Sandler dabbles in more serious fare from time to time. It doesn’t always work out — “The Cobbler” was among the most pilloried films of 2014 — but Noah Baumbach’s “The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)” has emerged as an early favorite at Cannes. Sandler spoke about the film during a press conference at the festival, saying that he “couldn’t believe we were doing this movie” when he first read the script.

There are essentially two types of Adam Sandler movies, though they sometimes come in varying shades. On the left side are the more casual, laissez-faire affairs, wherein the popular comedic actor/producer plays an exaggerated variation of his real-life, good-hearted slacker persona. Some of them are charming enough (“Billy Madison,” “The Wedding Singer,” “50 First Dates“), some are mixed (“Big Daddy,” “Spanglish“), and a few are, err, curious failures (“Eight Crazy Nights,” “Click,” “The Cobbler“), but the rest stink of cash-grabbing laziness (the “Grown Ups” movies, “Just Go With It,” “Blended“).

Despite being hated by critics at the time of its release (22 years ago last month), Billy Madison has achieved a certain nostalgic glow over time, both as one of the purest expressions of Adam Sandler’s rampaging id and long-spent cinematic energy, and as a thing that today’s younger adults watched a shit-ton of back when they were kids. Sandler himself waxed nostalgic about the cult-favorite man-boy movie on tonight’s Conan, fondly reminiscing about drilling a bunch of six-year-olds in the head with dodgeballs in one of the movie’s most famous scenes.
Recounting the story with host Conan O’Brien, Sandler seemed to perk up a bit, going from The Cobbler levels of energy all the way up to a Grown-Ups or Click bonhomie. His favorite part seemed to be the protesting parents of his young co-stars, who’d apparently failed to properly vet the script ...

After directing the Academy Award-winning drama “Spotlight,” Tom McCarthy returns to helm the new Netflix original series “13 Reasons Why,” based on the best-selling books by Jay Asher.
The drama follows Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette), a young man who comes home from school one day to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. When he opens it he finds cassette tapes recorded by his classmate and crush Hannah Baker, a young girl who committed suicide two weeks earlier. On the tapes, Hannah explains that there are 13 reasons why she decided to end her life.
The first teaser shows the cast and includes their thoughts on their lives, their actions and Hannah’s death, as the words “They all killed her” flash on the screen and “Monsters” by Ruelle plays in the background.

Yeah, yeah, the Oscars were last night, congratulations to Leonardo DiCaprio and Spotlight and all, celebration of quality filmmaking, whatever. Let's look at the winners of what really matters: the Razzies! As is tradition, the Razzie winners were announced the night before the Oscar ceremony. No big surprises here: Fifty Shades of Grey took home most of the "prizes" though Fantastic Four took home a few big ones as well. Both movies tied for Worst Picture. And while Eddie Redmayne may have lost out on the Oscar to DiCaprio, he did get a Razzie for Worst Supporting Actor for Jupiter Ascending. Congratulations, Eddie! From the utterly-loathed “The Cobbler” to the critically-adored “Spotlight,” Tom McCarthy had one of the craziest years of any director in recent memory. In a shocking twist of a narrative that seemed to keep the excellent investigative journalism film on the outside, McCarthy’s “Spotlight” snuck up the middle and took Best Picture at the the 88th Academy Awards tonight. For much of the season, the momentum swung between “The Big Short” (the PGA winner) and “The Revenant” (which had big wins at the SAG and DGA), but it would seem they split the difference, leaving room for “Spotlight” to sneak in there for the win. In addition to the big prize, "Spotlight" only had one other award, for Best Original Screenplay. The Razzie Awards have actually managed to stake their claim on a part of the film world now, with their yearly release not going unnoticed by anyone, and this despite the fact that you too can vote for them, as long as you buy in.
This year was bound to be dominated by the biggest winners, because no movie managed more universal hatred than Fifty Shades of Grey (and those who hated it weren’t always waiting for the release), unless it was Fantastic Four and it’s director outrage kurfuffle (he managed his own award as well).
Many of the other awards were largely foregone conclusions as well, mainly because Kevin James, Adam Sandler, and The Chipmunks made movies… or whatever.
Still, worst movies and performances make for tricky voting. It’s hard to pick among the nominees sometimes, which explains the dual win for overall worst picture, but...

While Hollywood is getting ready to celebrate itself with the Oscars, we must not forgot those films that were absolutely shite. Thankfully for the 36th year in a row The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation has shined a light on the best of the worst announcing the winners for the Razzie Awards 2016.

Ahead of Sunday’s Academy Awards, where Spotlight is tipped to win Best Original Screenplay and potentially even upset The Revenant for Best Picture, that film’s Oscar-nominated director has selected his next project. According to Deadline, Tom McCarthy will team with Netflix to direct and produce 13 Reasons Why, a teen-targeted series produced by Selena Gomez.
McCarthy, whose filmography includes bizarre turkeys like The Cobbler and sweet indies like The Station Agent, is no stranger to upending expectations. And though it’s unusual, to say the least, for a director riding one of the year’s most roundly acclaimed movies to go to the small screen for his first post-Oscar gig, Netflix has been drawing increasingly major talent these past few months, as it continues to assert itself as a deafening voice in the field of original programming.

The nominations for the 36th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards have been announced and it's packed full of all the worst things in movies that we saw in 2015. Josh Trank's utterly terrible film Fantastic Four was unsurprisingly nominated for 5 awards this year including Worst Picture and Worst Director.
Other films included on the list include Fifty Shades of Grey, Paul Blart Mall Cop 2, Pixels, and Jupiter Ascending. Some of the worst actors on the list of nominations include Johnny Depp, Kevin James, Adam Sandler, Channing Tatum, Katherine Heigl, Mila Kunis and Dakota Johnson.
There are a lot of terrible movies up for awards this year, so it's hard to predict who will win. But I think Fantastic Four and Fifty Shades of Grey will walk away with the majority of them. Here's the nomination video, and below that you'll find the full list. Look them over and let us know what your predictions are.
