James Bond actress Léa Seydoux says French president Emanuel Macron’s statement in support of Gérard Depardieu gives “a very bad image for France.”
Depardieu will face a criminal trial later this year over charges of sexual assault of two women on a movie set in 2021. The 75-year-old actor has denied the allegations.
When the news was first reported, President Macron said his country is “proud” of the actor who is revered in his home nation. More recently, the French premier has said he is awaiting the trial before making any further judgement on the star.
In a weekend interview with The Times of London, Seydoux poured scorn on Macron’s statement, saying:
“So strange. It was crazy. It gives a very bad image of our country. Why say that? It was really something. It’s crazy he said that — the president. Crazy.”

Much like British spy’s tuxedos and gadgets, the theme song of a James Bond film is also essential to the overall Bond experience. From Shirley Bassey’s iconic Goldfinger for Sean Connery’s 1964 classic to Adele’s Skyfall for the best Daniel Craig Bond feature, there has been a plethora of classics over the 25 Bond films.
But there has also been a plethora of acclaimed musicians, who have faced rejection from the Bond creators over the years. This includes Honeymoon creator Lana Del Rey, who wrote a song back in 2015 for Daniel Craig’s penultimate Bond feature.

BBC nature presenter Chris Packham called out global pop sensation Taylor Swift over her “absurd” use of private jets. UK’s Daily Mirror reported that Chris Packham implored Taylor Swift to stop using her private jets and even suggested that the singer consider selling some of her planes to minimise her impact on climate change.
Chris Packham is an avid environmental campaigner and award-winning wildlife photographer best known for presenting the BBC nature series Springwatch since 2009. Packhan recently spoke out after Taylor Swift sent a cease-and-desist order to silence social media blogger Jack Sweeney, who shared a log of her international jet use.
Sweeney, a vocal critic of Swift’s Private jet usage, shared on social media that the singer travelled 178,000 miles on two private planes in 2023. Taylor Swift also allegedly made a one-day round trip...

Lana Del Rey was asked by the BBC if she’d write a title track for a James Bond movie.
As it turns out, she did. And was rejected.
Speaking while attending the Ivor Novello Awards in London on Thursday, the singer admitted the failure.
“I mean, how has that not happened yet?” Del Rey asked, then briefly sang the chorus to 24 from her 2015 album, Honeymoon. “I wrote that for them.”
Th song would have been part of Daniel Craig’s fourth Bond film, Spectre. But it was Sam Smith’s song, Writing’s On the Wall, that was selected for the film, and later won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2016.
Del Rey took a poke at Smith. “But Sam, you did a wonderful job, really,” she teased. “No, I’m just kidding!”

Bertrand Bonello’s The Beast is a mesmerising and thought-provoking cinematic experience that blends elements of intelligent sci-fi, romance, and psychological thriller. Bonello’s distinct directorial style, combined with a compelling narrative and strong performances, makes this a standout in the sci-fi genre.
Set in a dystopian future where emotions have come to be regarded as dangerous liabilities, The Beast stars Léa Seydoux as Gabrielle, a troubled young woman grappling with her intense feelings in a society that prioritises rationality over feelings.
1917 and True History of the Kelly Gang star George MacKay plays Louis, Gabrielle’s enigmatic love interest, whose presence complicates her path to freedom from her own inner turmoil and doubts about her future.
Through a series of scenarios taking place throughout the ages – Paris at the turn of the 20th century and LA, 100 years later – the lovers’ interactions are fraught with tension, desire, and existential dread as...

The role of James Bond has played an instrumental part in Pierce Brosnan’s career. Despite succeeding some of the greatest Bond actors like the late Sean Connery and Roger Moore, Bosnan made a name as the character. However, his films could not attract the same amount of love as they had major problems and were widely criticized by fans and critics.

Copenhagen-based TrustNordisk has just picked up international rights to the Danish drama “Home” by actor-turned director Marijana Jankovic (“The House that Jack Built”).
For her debut feature after 2019’s multi-awarded short film “Maja,” a best short winner at Tribeca, Jankovic has assembled an impressive A-list international cast.
This includes Dejan Cukic (“Snabba Cash”), Nada Sargin (“The Mould”), Zlatko Buric (“Triangle of Sadness”), Claes Bang (“The Square”), Jesper Christensen, Trine Dyrholm (“The Girl With the Needle”) and Lene Maria Christensen (“Unruly”).
Based on a script co-penned by Jankovic with the seasoned Bo Hr. Hansen, behind Thomas Vinterberg’s upcoming series “Families like Ours,” a hit at MipTV, and Babak Vakili (“Outlaw”), the story is inspired by the director’s own experience, and feelings of and reflections on uprootedness.
Aged six, she moved from Montenegro to Denmark with her parents, but feeling homesick, she returned to her grandmother’s care. A year later,...

Léa Seydoux addressed France’s growing #MeToo movement at the Cannes Film Festival press conference for Quentin Dupieux’s comedy “The Second Act,” which opened the fest on Tuesday night.
“It’s a wonderful thing that women are now speaking out. Things are clearly changing and it was high time it did,” she said. “I have the impression that this change has indeed taken place. The film also plays with this idea, it also talks about very current events and this movement, where women are now speaking out, and that was of fundamental importance for this change to take place.”
Seydoux continued, “#MeToo is very important. It’s a very serious issue. However, I think it is also necessary to be able to talk about it with humor. In the film, this is highlighted in a very funny way.”

The stormy clouds outside the Palais might have dampened some spirits as the credits rolled on the opening night film of the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Or maybe it was the movie itself.
“The Second Act,” Quentin Dupieux’s talky French comedy about the making of the first movie directed by AI, mustered a lukewarm 3.5-minute standing ovation on Tuesday night in Cannes.
Dupieux attedned the premiere along with his French cast of Léa Seydoux, Louis Garrel, Vincent Lindon and Raphaël Quenard. The four actors all politely stood as a camera quickly passed by through the tepid applause.

The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths was the Arrowverse's sixth crossover event and aired across five parts from December 2019 - January 2020.
The story played out across episodes of Supergirl, Batwoman, The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow, and featured plenty of fan-pleasing cameos. Those included Kevin Conroy as a live-action Batman, Brandon Routh's return as Superman, and Ezra Miller as The Flash (simpler times).
While it was made on a TV budget, Crisis on Infinite Earths received plenty of praise and delivered a much stronger take on the classic comic book story than this year's poorly-received animated movies.
Talking on his personal blog, Arrowverse architect Marc Guggenheim reflected on the event and confirmed there were once plans for the five-part story to receive a theatrical release.

Sean Connery was hailed as one of the most notable actors who ever played the iconic James Bond. His decades-long career as the famed British spy was undoubtedly the most unforgettable one, and it’s difficult to imagine had he not continued to star in the franchise.

It is well known how liberating the animated medium is when it comes to adapting comic-book-oriented storylines, as proven by a significant number of DC’s animated ventures. For an incredibly important story like Crisis on Infinite Earths, an animated adaptation was necessary to translate the scope of the series for a wider audience. Having the adaptation divided into three parts was a good creative decision as well, as with a vast area to cover, dividing the story into segments helps to focus on distinct portions without making things too confusing for the audience. The first part of the Crisis on Infinite Earths movie trilogy was released earlier this year, and the emotional anchor of the story through Barry Allen’s, aka Prime Earth’s Flash’s, life contributed an interesting, comics accurate angle to the adaptation. However, with the recently released second part, it seems the makers have dropped the ball big time,...

Acclaimed writer John Logan will adapt Pulitzer Prize-winning author Cormac McCarthy’s “Blood Meridian” novel into a feature film for director John Hillcoat.
Hillcoat is also producing along with Keith Redmon for New Regency. Cormac McCarthy’s son, John Francis McCarthy, will serve as executive producer, while Cormac, who died in June 2023, will receive a posthumous executive producer credit.
“It’s incredibly exciting to have John Logan on board,” John Francis said. “Very reassuring in the seemingly long list of good news concerning what was originally such an intimidating undertaking.”
The project was originally set up with director James Franco and star Russell Crowe in 2016, but fell apart over rights to the book.
Based on historical conflicts along the Texas-Mexico border in the 1850s, “Blood Meridian” follows the journey of the Kid, a fourteen-year-old from Tennessee, as he navigates the brutal and harrowing landscape of this new era.

Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" films are an embarrassment of riches. With a strong ensemble cast, gorgeous visuals, an arresting story, and production design to die for, the filmmaker's take on Frank Herbert's epic sci-fi saga is firing on all cylinders. The movies also have fantastic effects makeup; a talented team is responsible for turning Austin Butler into a scowling, pale villain, etching runes onto the faces of the Bene Gesserit, and making everyone generally look both hot and windswept.
Oscar-nominated makeup artist Donald Mowat is credited as head of the makeup department on both 2021's "Dune" and "Dune: Part Two," but in 2020, he told Inside The Film Room that he nearly didn't get to work on the movies after all. Mowat previously collaborated extensively with Daniel Craig, doing his makeup on films like "Cowboys & Aliens" and "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" before joining the Bond franchise for "Skyfall" and Spectre.

Sophistication is a good word to describe James Bond, and Henry Cavill is the literal personification of the word. Therefore, it is not really a brainer that the actor would have been the ideal choice to bring Agent 007 to life after Daniel Craig’s run. However, as things are looking right now, the ship has long sailed and the decision-makers will probably be going with another actor in his prime to play James Bond.

Henry Cavill can be seen alongside the very talented and drop-dead gorgeous Margot Robbie and the trailer is just further proof why the actor would’ve been perfect for playing the British secret agent.

It might be fair to say that the James Bond role has always been elusive to Henry Cavill. After losing to Daniel Craig in 2006’s Casino Royale as he was too young and inexperienced, the actor is now being doubted to join the franchise because he’s already 40.

Veteran star Judi Dench, who first stepped into the world of ‘James Bond’ in 1995 with ‘GoldenEye’, went down memory lane and recalled her first meeting with the “adorable” Pierce Brosnan.
Dench played the Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service known as “M” in the movie, a role she held in each of the subsequent films in the James Bond franchise, until ‘Spectre’ in 2015.
When Dench saw her co-star Brosnan on the ‘GoldenEye’ set, she couldn’t help but notice his good looks, reports people.com.
“Be still, beating heart,” she said, clasping her hands over her chest when asked about the James Bond icon.
She added: “He was just an adorable man. He was absolutely glorious to work with and as a person.”
Both Dench and Brosnan were nervous on the first day of shooting the ‘Bond’ film.
“His first day on Bond was my first day. But he was Bond!

When it comes to the James Bond franchise, progressive is not the first word that comes to mind. Despite this, the 2021 film No Time To Die revolutionized the film series after it introduced the first female 007 in the form of Lashana Lynch. There have been conversations around the same topic for quite some time, with Angelina Jolie famously stating that she did not want to play a Bond girl but the spy herself.

It would seem, however, that the Maleficent actress was not the first to voice these wishes, as over 60 years before the Lynch film, there were conversations about a Bond film being led by a female James Bond.

When I saw the first black-and-white still of Andrew Scott in and as “Ripley,” I was sold — and I know I’m not alone.
The 47-year-old actor might seem like an unexpected choice to step into the shoes of Tom Ripley, but for anyone following his career, it could not have been a more perfect casting or welcome treat. From the very first moments, Steve Zaillian’s “Ripley” is one of those projects that hinges entirely upon its lead actor, a vehicle for Mr. Ripley’s talents that buoys sharp direction, artistic choices, and lush cinematography in its wake.
As for casting the man last seen on TV as Hot Priest in the role of a known sociopath (though Scott and Zaillian dislike labeling their antihero), we must turn to Tumblr. With Instagram in its infancy and TikTok still years away, Twitter and Tumblr were the arenas for Andrew Scott...

Andrew Scott continues to add to his wide-ranging acting résumé with Ripley, taking on famed con man Tom Ripley as he is hired to live a life of deceit, fraud and murder.
After playing a Bond villain in 2015’s Spectre, Scott shared that playing such an evil role was “not a territory that I feel like I would want to go over again. Now I know who I am a little bit more, I feel like the work that I’m just interested in doing is more in the gray areas.” But, he told The Hollywood Reporter at the show’s Los Angeles premiere on Wednesday, he does not see Tom Ripley as a villainous character.
“I see him absolutely as an antihero, but he’s the protagonist. He’s not the antagonist, so we’re seeing it through his eyes, that’s the whole part of it,” Scott explained.

“It was all me, James. It’s always been me,” the villain played by Christoph Waltz reveals to super spy James Bond. “The author of all your pain.”
The name of that author? Ernst Stavro Blofeld. When Waltz revealed himself as Blofeld in 2015’s Spectre, he reversed a problem that had plagued the Bond franchise for decades: the long absence of 007’s greatest recurring arch-enemy and the huge stakes that came along with his every appearance.
How could the man who escaped every death trap and seduced every woman lose his man? How did the notoriously controlling Eon Productions, which owns the rights to Ian Fleming’s novels, let one of its most important characters slip through its hands?
Turns out, the true author of Bond’s pain is the copyright office and the he said/she said litigation that slows down big budget productions.

Sam Taylor-Johnson is certainly good with all of this her-husband-as-next-Bond talk. After all, if Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the next 007, she may be the next director of a Bond film. And if so, she’d be the first female filmmaker within the storied James Bond franchise.
On “The Johnathan Ross Show,” when asked if Aaron will play 007, the “Back to Black” director had another idea — or at least a second idea.
“You mean that I might direct a Bond film? The first woman director,” Sam said (via Deadline). “Carry on speculating.”
She added of Aaron, “He’d be great.”
Sam has already directed her husband in two feature films: “Nowhere Boy” (2009) and “A Million Little Pieces” (2018). And she knows her cinema history: In the half-century Bond franchise, there has never been a film installment directed by a woman. Steven Spielberg is undoubtedly one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. Cillian Murphy is once again mining the non-fiction space for his work. After winning a best actor Oscar for Oppenheimer, the actor is attached to star in and produce Blood Runs Coal, an adaptation of the non-fiction book that Universal has acquired.
The project is based on the 2020 book Blood Runs Coal: The Yablonski Murders and the Battle for the United Mine Workers of America. Author Mark A. Bradley’s book follows the 1969 murder of mining union organizer Joseph “Jock” Yablonski, who was killed at home with his wife and daughter. The killings followed Yablonski campaigning against a corrupt union leader, and sparked a lengthy investigation that unveiled shady dealings within the coal industry.
John Davis and Jordan Davis will produce via Davis Entertainment. Murphy and Alan Moloney will produce via Big Things Films. Bradley will executive produce.

With his victory on Monday at the Critics’ Circle Theatre awards, Andrew Scott has made history. The Irish performer, recognized as best actor for his one-man West End show, “Vanya,” previously was named best actor at the 2024 Critics’ Circle Film Awards for his performance in “All of Us Strangers.” He’s the first person to win lead actor Critics’ Circle prizes in both film and television in the same year.
“It’s a thrilling delight,” Scott says. “I’ve been involved with both film and theater ever since I started acting when I was 17 years old. I’ve always worked between the two mediums. So to have these two projects, which were very dear to me, be recognized is more than I could have wished for.”
In the case of “Vanya,” Simon Stephens’ adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s “Uncle Vanya,” Scott played all of the show’s eight roles. That was a herculean task,...

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has gotten support from a former James Bond actor after rumors the Bullet Train star got offered to be the next 007 agent.
George Lazenby, who portrayed Bond in the 1969 film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, gave his seal of approval to Taylor-Johnson following reports he was in contention for the role.
According to a recent TMZ report, Lazenby said Taylor-Johnson would be able to “handle the stunts and all the ladies who love a man in a tux.”
Lazenby noted that he doesn’t think Taylor-Johnson has the role yet because “when he auditioned for the part back in the 1960s, he went through a bunch of different tests and auditions before he won the role.”
James Bond was most recently played by English actor Daniel Craig, who took over the role in 2006’s Casino Royale. Craig would continue portraying the spy in 2008’s Quantum of Solace, 2012’s Skyfall,...
