I can't remember the last time I saw a Hollywood movie quite like this; a fun, breezy, light hearted caper with fantastic (and stunning) leads that doesn't take itself too seriously. My brother made the spot on comment that this is what the reboot of Charlie's Angels should've been like (say what you want about India's complicated gender relations, but there's something to be said about a film that empowers but also acknowledges that...sexiness is okay), and I couldn't agree more.
I felt the chemistry between the three leads is definitely what gives this film its "oomph" and without that, it probably wouldn't have worked AS well. But the film also acknowledges that these are inherently flawed and in some cases, not entirely admirable people, and I really liked that. We're so used to films vindicating everything the protagonist does because, well, they're the protagonist. Even if they're inherently sympathetic, there are other perspectives out there.
But, I can't mince words here: these three women - Karina Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Tabu - are absolutely gorgeous and look absolutely fantastic on screen. They all represent different aspects of beauty and not to mention, they're all really funny and have great comedic timing.
I also really liked the zippy editing and non-linear storytelling, which kept me on my toes and really wanting to see what happened. I do think the film has some great montages (in theory), which convey a lot of information and are entertaining as heck, but to be honest, most of them overstay their welcome. There's a diminishing return by minute 5 or 6, you know? Although, I have to say, the film's music was AWESOME, with some real ear worms and a musical tone that worked very well with the film itself.
Yes, there are plot holes and moments that don't make a ton of sense. I also felt the first half hour moved a bit too slowly, but as with a lot of non-linear films, that's sort of to be expected. I'd say overall, this was a really fun little film that most people would probably enjoy.
