"Percy Jackson and the Olympians," the second attempt at adapting the popular book series by Rick Riordan, is taking one step closer to being able to tell its complete story. After the movie series ended abruptly with the terrible "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters," Disney has decided to renew the TV adaptation for a second season that tackles the events of that story. This was announced by CEO Bob Iger during the company's first quarter earnings call for 2024. The news comes as Disney announced the first season of "Percy Jackson" was their biggest non-Marvel and non-"Star Wars" hit on streaming.
"I can't wait to bring the next season of 'Percy Jackson' to Disney+! Raise anchors. Hoist the mainsail. All hands on deck, demigods. We're heading for the Sea of Monsters!" Riordan said in a statement. The upcoming second season sees the return of Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries,...

As much as coming-of-age stories like "Harry Potter" tended to suck up all the oxygen in the room during our younger years, Millennials of a certain age can't help but look back fondly on the "Percy Jackson" series. Author Rick Riordan's novels took a fantastical spin on Greek mythology and cleverly blended it with all the typical teenage angst found in YA books everywhere. This approach proved so popular, in fact, that 20th Century Studios ushered in two big-budget film adaptations in the early 2010s, following the adventures of the young demigod Percy Jackson with grand ambitions of all six of Riordan's original books. That didn't exactly pan out as expected and plans for the franchise all but fizzled out with "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" in 2013 ... not least of all because Riordan essentially disowned the films.
The upcoming Disney+ series, however, has been working overtime to right those...

Percy Jackson & the Olympians is a novel series written by Rick Riordan. There are six parts of the series written so far with the latest one being Percy Jackson: The Chalice of the Gods. The first book-to-screen adaptation of the novel came out in 2010 with Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. The film starred Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson, Brandon T. Jackson as Grover Underwood, and Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth Chase. The film adaptations got mixed reviews and were continued with one more installment, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. Percy Jackson never returned for another installment.

It’s no secret that Rick Riordan, who wrote the Percy Jackson book series and executive-produces the upcoming Disney+ live-action series, took major issue with the 2010 film Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and its sequel Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.
In his notes to movie producers in 2009, he called the Lightning Thief script “terrible” as a whole and maligned the age-inappropriate swearing as a “lazy attempt to make the script seem hip to teens.” Responding to a fan in 2020 who said he hated the films more than they did, Riordan shared that it was “my life’s...

He wasn’t on the speakers’ list, but Percy Jackson & The Olympians creator Rick Riordan staged a surprise last-minute walk-on Sunday at New York Comic Con with his wife, Becky Riordan.
The couple closed out a jam-packed panel for the upcoming Disney+ adaptation of author Riordan’s beloved, modern-day-mythological fantasy novels about a boy who learns he is the half-human son of the sea god Poseidon.
“Let’s go to Camp Half-Blood and play capture the flag,” a smiling Riordan said from the stage, introducing the last of three exclusive sneak-peak clips from the series, which premieres December 20.
A capacity Comic Con audience — many already in orange and black Camp Half-Blood t-shirts handed out at the door — cheered inside the mammoth exhibition hall at Manhattan’s Javits Center. Then came a five-minute reel showing Percy, played by Walker Scobell, in a crucial early test of his fighting skills at the sleep-away camp for young demigods-in-training.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is coming to Disney+ in December, and it will feature a large cast of characters as the world from the books begins to form on screen.
This is not the first live-action adaptation of Rick Riordan's beloved book series, though the 2010 Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and 2013 Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters movies left many fans disappointed. However, unlike the movies, the new show has Riordan himself helping to co-write the script, and he has been involved in the show's production as well.
Interestingly, the show's first season is only confirmed to show seven gods, with the remaining ones teased to come in later seasons. This, as Riordan explained, aligns with several gods not appearing until later books in the series.

In 2010, 20th Century Fox brought to life the first film in the Percy Jackson series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief starring Logan Lerman. Fox would bring over the director of the early Harry Potter films, Chris Columbus, to helm the start of this new franchise. The Lightning Thief would go on to become a hit as it grossed $226.4 million worldwide with a production budget of $95 million. The sequel, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, also became a modest hit and a third film, The Titan’s Curse, was set to be the next installment, but it never manifested.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is getting a TV series adaptation coming to Disney+ in 2024. As the show continues to film its first season, creator Rick Riordan is teasing details of what fans can expect.
One of the Greek gods from the book series is Ares that will be portrayed by WWE wrestler Adam “Edge” Copeland. Riordan was thinking of “coraí” which means “wrestler” and “one who practices the sport of coraíocht.”
“I’m thinking about this because of some great scenes Adam Copeland has filmed for us recently as Ares, the god of war,” Riordan wrote on Mastodon. “As they used to say on the monster truck rally commercials of my youth: ‘You can pay for the whole seat, but you’ll only need the Edge!'”
In a previous post, Riordan gave insight into what it’s like to film the Disney+ series.

Upon its release throughout the mid-to-late 2000s, the Percy Jackson book series garnered widespread popularity among young readers, which led to not one but two film adaptations of the books, "Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief" and "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters." The movies follow Percy Jackson, a young adult who discovers he is the son of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea, and embarks on a number of adventures to develop his demigod powers and save loved ones from threatening forces, but they faced criticism for straying from the original content of the novels and cutting author Rick Riordan out of the creative process.
The last Percy Jackson onscreen adaptation reached audiences in 2013, but Disney+ is bringing a fresh, new take to Percy's story in the upcoming series "Percy Jackson and the Olympians," which is currently in production and set to...

"Bullet Train" is packed with so much fast-paced chaos, you might have missed the sneaky Percy Jackson Easter egg hidden in its script. The action movie features a slew of codenamed assassins, including Ladybug (Brad Pitt), Lemon (Brian Tyree Henry), Tangerine (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), The Prince (Joey King), The Wolf (Bad Bunny), and The Hornet (Zazie Beetz). One of the few non-murderous characters aboard the high-speed train across Japan is The Son, portrayed by a long-haired, tattoo-covered Logan Lerman. Yep, this is where the Percy Jackson reference comes into play.
The son of Russian crime lord White Death, Lerman's character is being escorted to Kyoto by dynamic duo Lemon and Tangerine. The former has a love for the animated series "Thomas & Friends," often comparing its humanoid trains to the personality traits of those he crosses paths with. Aleks Paunovic stands out in a crowd in many ways. At 6'5" tall, he quite literally towers over most people, but, honestly, it's his incredibly friendly and enthusiastic demeanor that is most memorable.
He is one busy guy and has been for quite a while. The odds are excellent that you've seen him on both small and big screens in his roles on TV shows like Van Helsing, iZombie, and Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, as well as films like War for the Planet of the Apes, Numb, and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.
Even just talking over the phone, it's hard not to get swept up in his passionate approach to the various projects he's working on and dreaming about.
Most recently, he's been winning (and breaking) hearts as Breachman Bojan "Boki" Boscovic aboard TNT's hit show, Snowpiercer. With the Snowpiercer Season 2 finale nearing and Season 3 filming already on the way,...

The film release calendar has always played home to serendipitous programming choices, from movies with strangely similar titles hitting at the same time to features that seem ripped from the same script (as with the infamous 1998 double whammy of “Deep Impact” and “Armageddon”), but this week at the movies offers something with a twist: two new movies with not just closely aligned plots, but nearly identical praise. Two is a trend!

The 1999 Drew Barrymore romcom “Never Been Kissed” is referenced multiple times in “Words on Bathroom Walls,” with the older film cast in a rosy Proustian glow that may come as a jolt to any viewers who remember the 20th century. Fully 21st-century teens Adam (Charlie Plummer) and Maya (Taylor Russell) describe it as a “classic” and a “cinematic masterpiece” with equal parts affection and irony, believing themselves a little smarter than its cozy high-school movie clichés. So does “Words on Bathroom Walls,” in ways that sometimes pay off strikingly.

Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan is looking forward to Disney+’s upcoming series adaptation of his beloved Ya fantasy series, and making clear he is not a fan of the previous film adaptations. Riordan shared his thoughts with fans today on Twitter.
“I still have not seen the movies, and don’t plan on ever doing so,” Riordan tweeted. “I judge them from having read the scripts, because I care most about the story. I certainly have nothing against the very talented actors. Not their fault. I’m just sorry they got dragged into that mess.”
He continued, “Well, to you guys, it’s a couple hours’ entertainment. To me, it’s my life’s work going through a meat grinder when I pleaded with them not to do it. So yeah. But it’s fine. All fine. We’re gonna fix it soon.”

It’s time to check out what Disney+ UK has planned for June! Last month, the streaming service added Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as its centrepiece, and this month will see the arrival of a first-look premiere in Kenneth Branagh’s new family film Artemis Fowl, which has skipped its cinema release and landed on Disney+. The big budget movie is based on the bestselling book by Eoin Colfer, and follows 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl as he sets out to find his missing dad. The project boasts a stellar cast that includes Ferdia Show, Colin Farrell, Josh Gad and Judi Dench. We’ll at least get a quick chance to guess for ourselves if it would have been a box office hit for the mouse house or not.

Disney Plus has revealed the full list of movies and TV shows, both original and pre-existing content, that will be coming to the streaming service over the next month. The site will be adding the new titles to its library in three batches throughout June. It’s not the biggest haul of new material if we’re being honest, but there are a few key items you’ll want to look out for.
Most notably, Artemis Fowl is hitting Disney Plus on June 12th. The fantasy movie directed by Thor‘s Kenneth Branagh, and based off the popular Ya novels by Eoin Colfer, was originally set to debut in theaters but has been switched to a streaming release given the Covid-19 pandemic. This is the first time the studio has made such a move, but it’s been noted they may do so again if this one turns out to be successful.

The popular “Percy Jackson” children’s novels are being adapted into a Disney+ television series.
Series author Rick Riordan revealed that his books, which center on a teenage boy who discovers he is the demigod son of the Greek god Poseidon, are being adapted into a television show for the House of Mouse’s streaming service in a cheerful Twitter video and written announcement.
“Hey Percy Jackson fans, for the past decade you’ve worked hard to champion a faithful on-screen adaption of Percy Jackson’s world,” Riordan said on Twitter. “Some of you have even suggested it would be a great series for Disney+. We couldn’t agree more! We can’t say much more at this stage but we are very excited about the idea of a live-action series of the highest quality, following the storyline of the original ‘Percy Jackson’ five-book series, starting with ‘The Lightning Thief...
