The Hunt For Mr Swirl
What kind of man sexually abuses underage boys then posts images of his handiwork on-line? The degenerate who did this became known as Mr Swirl because his face had been electronically "swirled" in the photographs.
The hunt for globe-trotting Canadian paedophile Christopher Neil was known as Operation Vico; it involved the first ever global public appeal by Interpol since its inception in 1923. Having said that, once the swirled images had been unswirled, he was quickly identified, and it was only a matter of time before he was caught. He was arrested by the Thai police in October 2007.
Talking of time, including commercial breaks, this programme runs to around three quarters of an hour, but realistically it could have been over in a third of that. The documentary makers talk to many of those involved including Neil's brother and the wanted man's transvestite Thai catamite.
After initially protesting his innocence he pleaded guilty, and received a somewhat lenient sentence. It was around this point that this programme was first broadcast. Neil's troubles were far from over though, shortly he faced another trial which resulted in more prison time, and in March of this year he was arrested in his native Canada on new charges.
