Bradley Cooper repaid his debt to Eddie Vedder on Friday, taking the stage for a duet on his hit song from his 2018 movie, A Star Is Born.
The actor joined Vedder at the BottleRock musical festival in Napa Valley for the song Maybe It’s Time from A Star Is Born with Pearl Jam’s Vedder.
The two have been longtime friends, with Vedder serving as the sounding board as Cooper developed his Star character.
Cooper returned to the stage at the end of Pearl Jam’s set to join in on a rendition of Neil Young’s Rockin’ in the Free World.

10. Patrick Swayze & Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing (1987)
Dirty Dancing is one of those movies that actually move people to write “most iconic movie couples” lists; not that we’re speaking from experience, of course. The sheer tension and dynamic between Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey gave an entire generation their idea of the perfect couple energy, and they looked stunning together.
9. Meg Ryan & Tom Hanks in Sleepless in Seattle (1993)
The touching and infinitely warm story told by Sleepless in Seattle captivated viewers around the world, but it was the chemistry between Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan that really made it so great. The two stars famously have an amazing relationship and worked together on many movies, fueling fans’ hopes; albeit, they were just friends.

Bradley Cooper famously channeled Eddie Vedder for his performance as Jackson Maine in the 2018 film, A Star Is Born. In something of a full circle moment, Vedder’s Pearl Jam welcomed Cooper to the stage during the band’s headlining performance at BottleRock Napa Valley on Saturday.
In introducing Cooper, Vedder told the crowd: “There was an absolutely beautiful film a few years ago about a singer/songwriter named Jackson Maine. In the end of the film, he passes away, and it’s brutal and very powerful and very moving. But tonight is a very special occasion, because he is coming back to life. Please, would you join me in welcoming to the stage, my great, great pal Bradley Cooper.”

Pearl Jam brought out an unlikely guest during the band’s Saturday headlining gig at Napa Valley’s BottleRock as Bradley Cooper — Jackson Maine himself — came onstage to perform “Maybe It’s Time” from his A Star Is Born.
With Eddie Vedder on acoustic guitar, Cooper dusted off his Maine persona to deliver a tender rendition of the Jason Isbell-penned track, which Vedder himself had previously covered solo at a Tempe, Arizona music festival in 2019.

“Joker” (2019) was originally intended to be a standalone film without sequels. However, Warner Bros. envisioned it as the beginning of DC Black, a series of darker, more experimental films separate from the DC Extended Universe. Despite the original plan, director Todd Phillips expressed interest in a sequel.
By November 2019, development on the sequel was confirmed, and in 2023, James Gunn stated that “Joker: Folie à Deux” would not be part of the mainline Dcu. Instead, it will be released under the “Elseworlds” label, in line with Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” franchise.
Shortly after the sequel was announced, it was revealed that Lady Gaga would portray Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker. Todd Phillips explained that he cast Lady Gaga because he had witnessed her mesmerizing performance in “A Star is Born,” where he served as a producer.

Premiering out of Critics’ Week in Cannes, Alexis Langlois’ debut feature “Queens of Drama” is a musical blast of queer culture euphoria, telling a decades-spanning, impossible love story between a pair of pop idols who begin as fans and then become lovers, who climb the charts and permeate the culture as enemies, and who end up forgotten, as time moves forward and a new generation of teenage fans claim new idols for themselves.
The film’s familiar rise-and-fall rhythms struck a chord with filmmaker Alexis Langlois, who cites Vincente Minnelli and George Cukor as inspiration. “I wanted to offer a great, romantic story,” says Langlois. “Really, to give all these queer characters – and the queer actors who play them — a sense of grand romance by mixing the codes and memories of classic cinema with something much more modern.”
“And I like idea of the wheel of fortune,” they continue. “As...

Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” just may have broken the internet — and the brains of more than a few critics at Cannes.
Upon the film’s world premiere, fans and critics alike took to social media to capture the “insanity” of Coppola’s latest feature, which has been described by the auteur as a “Roman epic.” Count IndieWire’s David Ehrlich as a fan: In his review, he said that “Coppola’s wild and delirious fever dream inspires new hope for the future of movies.” The film debuted in competition at the Cannes Film Festival and is still looking for distribution, but will definitely get an IMAX release regardless.
Adam Driver leads the feature as a pseudo alter ego of writer/director Coppola, with the Oscar-nominated actor playing an architect who envisions saving his corrupt city and transforming the metropolis into a utopia. Meanwhile, the city’s mayor (Giancarlo Esposito) clashes with Driver’s character,...

Cannes parallel section Critics’ Week opens Wednesday with French director Jonathan Millet’s psychological manhunt thriller Ghost Trail (Les Fantômes), starring Adam Bessa as man in in pursuit of a faceless, former torturer.
Running from May 15 to 23, the compact line-up will showcase 11 first and second works features by emerging directors, seven in competition, as well as 13 short films.
Deadline caught up with Artistic Director Ava Cahen on the eve of the 63rd edition.
Deadline: You’re on your third selection as Critics’ Week artistic director. How was it this year?
Ava Cahen: We always put the counters back to zero. So everything felt new, even if it’s my third year. We received a few more films than normal and screened 1,050 features. It’s hard when you’ve only got 11 slots. Obviously there were a lot more than 11 films that we would have liked to have welcomed. There was a lot of discussion.

The story of Beowulf and Grendel is one of the most famous stories in English literature. The epic Beowulf is one of the most important works of English literature in general and it has been an inspiration for many authors over the centuries. We have also had numerous adaptations of the work, including the animated film from 2007, but all of them focused on the heroic tale of Beowulf, the hero of the story. But, the story also has another important character – Grendel – the monster and Beowulf’s rival in the story.
Grendel is finally going to get the chance to tell you his side of the story, as the movie Grendel will be released soon, with Palisades Park Pictures is launching international sales ahead of Cannes.

When Barbra Streisand and Jon Peters were interested in remaking A Star is Born in 1974, their first choice for John Howard Norman was Elvis Presley. Reportedly, the King of Rock and Roll was very interested in the role, but someone else held the key to Presley’s participation in the project. Who’s to blame for?
Elvis Presley was ‘hooked’ on the idea of remaking ‘A Star Is Born’
Barbra Streisand and Jon Peters met with Elvis Presley to discuss the project in early 1974. At the time, Presley was performing at Las Vegas’ Caesars Palace.
Presley hadn’t made a film since 1969’s Change of Habit. However, he was reportedly looking to return to the movie industry and wanted to be taken seriously as an actor. Therefore, the meaty role of a fading rock star greatly appealed to him.

I recently wrote about the surprise Best Supporting Actress Oscar win by Anna Paquin for 1993’s “The Piano.” At 11 years of age, she became the second youngest competitive Academy Award recipient in history. She remains the last child Oscar champ, though several have since been nominated.
The record for the youngest competitive Oscar victory by a child (someone age 17 or younger) was actually set two decades before the practically hyperventilating Paquin accepted her statuette. And it was in the same category — Best Supporting Actress. Ten-year-old Tatum O’Neal, daughter of the late Ryan O’Neal (a Best Actor nominee for 1970’s “Love Story”), delivered a performance in “Paper Moon” that was loved enough by the academy to bring her the coveted award. The younger O’Neal played Addie Loggins, a child turned con artist who teams up with a man posing as her father during The Great Depression. She was nominated alongside...

Paul Rudd is set to go toe to toe, voice to voice, with Nick Jonas for John Carney’s latest musical.
Carney’s “Power Ballad” stars Rudd and Jonas as two very different types of musicians: One is a wedding singer while the other is a rock star, and while the casting details over which actor is playing which character haven’t been confirmed, Jonas’ real-life rock star status must be influencing his performance.
Carney recently helmed “Flora and Son” and is set to direct the upcoming musical comedy that he cowrote with Peter McDonald. Yentl. The publication of My Name Is Barbra, Barbra Streisand's 970-page memoir, has offered fans of the actress-singer-icon a long-awaited glimpse into her life. It’s a lot of book, a maximalist feast of details and anecdotes that paints a lavish portrait of the woman who became a generational star. It’s easy to forget just how much of Streisand's career was besieged by misogyny, whether it was critics' repeated derision of appearance or co-stars like Walter Matthau berating her on set. Streisand certainly never forgot, and her memoir offers frequent reminders of the sexism that hampered her path to success at every turn. Her memoir conveys an achingly detailed portrait of endurance by a wildly ambitious woman. Wherever she went, she was derided for trying to do or be “too much,” and she took pleasure in proving her detractors wrong in her inimitable style. When she chose to get behind the camera and direct,...

Lady Gaga cemented her status as one of music’s biggest voices and Hollywood’s brightest stars with her role in 2018′s A Star is Born.
Her portrayal of singer/songwriter Ally Maine alongside Bradley Cooper earned Gaga her first Oscar win and laid the groundwork for future roles, including Joker: Folie a Deux.
It signified the first time that Mother Monster took the lead in a blockbuster. And while she’s iconic in the role, some fans might not be aware that A Star is Born is a movie that had already been made three times before Lady Gaga was cast.
The first version of the movie was released in 1937 and starred Janet Gaynor; the second came out in 1954 with Judy Garland in the lead. Barbra Streisand took center stage in the version of the movie released in 1976.

Barbra Streisand has released her first song in six years, titled “Love Will Survive” — and it’s her first work for an onscreen project in 12 years, since she herself last appeared in a movie, 2012’s “The Guilt Trip.”
“Love Will Survive,” composed by Hans Zimmer and Kara Talve, will be Streisand’s end title anthem for the credits of Peacock and Sky limited series “The Tattooist of Auschwitz,” based on the WWII-set novel of the same name. Melanie Lynskey portrays real-life author Heather Morris, who interviewed Holocaust survivor Lali Sokolov (Harvey Keitel) about meeting his future wife Gina (Anna Próchniak) in a concentration camp. The novel is inspired by the real-life love story of Lali and Gita Sokolov, who met while prisoners in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp during the Holocaust. He had been ordered to tattoo serial numbers on prisoners’ arms.
This is Streisand’s first recording for a TV series.

Remakes have become rampant in the film industry but the worst part is most of them lack any sense of originality. Filmmakers are constantly coming up with movies that rely solely on the nostalgia factor in order to bring the audience to the theatres. More often than not, the remakes aren’t met with positive feedback which just goes on to say that it is about time Hollywood should move on to bigger and better things.

However, before it does so, the film industry might need to take a step back and look into two of the best remakes Hollywood has had to offer in the past years – War of the Worlds and West Side Story. Directed by none other than legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg, both films are perfect examples of how a remake should be done.

Bradley Cooper’s talents could aptly be summarized with the title of one of his films, Limitless. With over two decades dedicated to Hollywood, he’s undeniably one of its biggest stars. From the success of The Hangover series to his MCU journey as Rocket in The Guardians of the Galaxy, he has done quite a lot to cement his name in the industry.
Yet, despite his immense success, he hadn’t quite felt welcomed into “the club.” It was his recent departure into more serious roles, including stepping into a role replacing Leonardo DiCaprio, that allowed him to confront the insecurities and emotions he’d accrued over the years.

Dan Wallin, the music scoring engineer who recorded such classic film scores as “Spartacus,” “Bullitt,” “The Wild Bunch” and “Out of Africa,” died early Wednesday in Hawaii. He was 97.
Twice Oscar-nominated for best sound (1970’s “Woodstock” and 1976’s “A Star Is Born”), he won a 2009 Emmy for sound mixing on the Academy Awards telecast and received two additional Emmy nominations in the sound mixing category.
But it was Wallin’s skill behind the console, recording and mixing musical scores for movies and TV, that won him legions of fans among nearly all of Hollywood’s top composers and ensured steady employment for more than half a century.
He recorded the music for an estimated 500 films, including those for “Bonnie and Clyde,” “Cool Hand Luke” and “Finian’s Rainbow” in the 1960s; “The Way We Were,” “Blazing Saddles,” “Nashville,” “King Kong” and “Saturday Night Fever” in the 1970s; “Somewhere in Time,” “The Right Stuff...

Before she was involved with the Joker, Stefani Germanotta, aka Lady Gaga, was already experimenting with face paint. However, instead of an unhinged red smile smeared across her mouth, the 13-time Grammy Award-winner channeled her inner Picasso with pink, yellow, and black face paint to match her oversized abstract jacket and lilac skirt.

The 2019 Joker film starring Joaquin Phoenix was a game changer for DC as director Todd Phillips created something unique out of the character that was never done before. Instead of the usual confrontation between Joker and Batman, the film focused on exploring Joker’s psychological deterioration in a crime-ridden Gotham City.

Debuting at Las Vegas’s CinemaCon – and online soon thereafter – the trailer for Todd Phillips’s follow-up to ‘Joker,’ the Best Picture nominee that won Joaquin Phoenix the Best Actor Oscar, blew up the internet late Tuesday night. The two-and-a-half-minute promo answered many lingering questions about the film.
As the title suggests, it’s very much about the mad love shared between Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck/Joker and Lady Gaga’s Harlene Quinzel/Harley Quinn. In DC Comics lore, Quinn starts as a psychiatrist who is then lured into Joker’s orbit; here it appears that she’s already one of his fellow inmates at Arkham Asylum when they meet.
Recent news leaks and some photos suggested that the film, which won the top prize at the 2019 Venice Film Festival, would be a “jukebox musical.” It’s still a little unclear just how much singing-and-hoofin’ Phoenix and Gaga will do,...

The first trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux brings together unites Oscar winners Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga for one of the more intriguing entries of the 2024 theatrical calendar.
Warner Bros. unveiled the look at CinemaCon, where Joker 2 is among the top titles theater owners were curious for a glimpse at — and for good reason. It’s a sequel to a $1 billion hit that earned Phoenix an Oscar, but is also taking a left turn by entering the musical genre.
But director Todd Phillips noted that in some ways it’s not all that different from the first, which also had music as a key element.
“We never talked about it like that,” said Phillips when asked if it was a musical. “I like to say it’s a movie where music is an essential element. To me, that doesn’t veer to far from the first film.” In the first film,...

Update: The full trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux is here!
During the Warner Bros. panel at CinemaCon, Todd Phillips addressed the crowd, saying that the response to 2019’s Joker blew him away. People said the film was “dangerous.” He’s thankful the movie wasn’t scrapped and became a box-office smash.
When he was making the first movie, he and Joaquin always talked about making a sequel, but they didn’t want to jinx it. They talked a lot about the pandemic, and that’s how it was born. But it’s a very different kind of sequel.
Phillips was a producer on A Star Is Born, and he and the writer always wrote this with Lady Gaga in mind. As far as it becoming a musical, Phillips said he never thought of it as one, but he admits music is an essential element. He said he always described...

Bradley Cooper nearly pulled out of 'The Place Beyond The Pines' because it wasn’t what he signed up for.The 2012 American epic crime drama film starring Ryan Gosling as Luke, a motorcycle stunt rider who supports his family through a life of crime, and Cooper as Avery, a policeman who confronts his corrupt police department underwent a complete rewrite after the latter, whose involvement helped to pay for the flick, made it known he was not happy.Speaking at IndieWire’s Screen Talk live at the New Directors/New Films festival, writer/director Derek Cianfrance recalled: “I had given [Darius Marder] the script and he had a lot of notes for it, and I kind of agreed with a lot of what he was saying. And so we rewrote every word from 10 weeks to six weeks.“I remember giving Bradley Cooper the copy of ‘The Place Beyond the Pines,...

We’ve never met anybody whose seen 2013’s The Place Beyond The Pines and thought it was anything less than great. The script, the direction and the production design are wonderful and this writer would argue that if there was ever an award for the best opening and closing shot in movie history, The Place Beyond The Pines would definitely be in contention.
However, there was one person who wasn’t impressed with the film, and that was before cameras had even rolled. The project’s director Derek Cianfrance has revealed that at one point, one of the film’s leading men was so unimpressed with a script rewrite that he tried to quit the movie.

Starring Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson, sci-fi thriller Mercy is taking shape, with Kali Reis and Rafi Gavron among the actors joining its cast.
For the past few months, Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov has quietly assembled what could end up being one of the starriest sci-fi films of 2025. In January, Amazon MGM bought up the global theatrical rights for Mercy – which is unsurprising, given the package: it has Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson attached as its stars, and Hollywood veteran Charles Roven as its producer.
In the weeks since, more and more names have been added, including Annabelle Wallis (who starred in the gleefully twisted Malignant) and Kali Reis, who made a strong impression in the hit series True Detective: Night County. A few years ago, after a few rough battles with the press and paparazzi and the cancellation of his MSNBC talk show, Alec Baldwin penned a much-publicized article announcing he’d be leaving “public life.” He reconsidered that departure and then appeared in the popular 2018 films “BlacKkKlansman,” “Mission Impossible: Fallout” and “A Star Is Born,” as well as the 2019 release “Motherless Brooklyn.” On the small screen, he appeared in the limited series “The Looming Tower,” recreated his recurring role on the reboot of “Will and Grace” and hosted “Match Game.”
Most notably Baldwin continued his appearances on “Saturday Night Live” lampooning Donald Trump. He made so many appearances in 2017 that he won an Emmy as Best Comedy Supporting Actor, his third career prize after his two leading wins for “30 Rock.”

The “Shallow” singer has left her little monsters full of worry and concern after her recent livestream interview with beauty influencer Nikkie de Jager, aka NikkieTutorials.
During her interview, the two women kept conversing like they were old pals who met and rekindled their friendship.
The interview focused more on Lady Gaga‘s life and her upcoming album, LG7. Although the “Bloody Mary” singer gave out some details about her upcoming album, her little monsters weren’t exactly paying attention to that as their main focus was on her face.
First of all, Lady Gaga donned on a black sleeveless blouse and wore her long platinum blonde hair down.
Her simple makeup looked so natural that you might think she didn’t wear any. But then, amid all her beauty and composure, the fact that her face looked “swollen” didn’t escape their notice.

Lady Gaga Does It All
When you think about industry juggernauts that command the stage and brand themselves as more than just a performer, there are a few names that come to mind. Names like Beyonce and Taylor Swift certainly fit the bill. As for Lady Gaga, she is right up there with the best of them.
Over the course of her iconic career, Lady Gaga has sold more than 170 million albums worldwide. She is also the only female artist to have four different singles sell 10 million copies or more globally. There’s no bar that she can’t reach, and her fans love her even more for it.

Elvis Presley grew famous for his music career, but he also had a successful run as an actor. He starred in a number of high-earning films and took top billing in all but one of his movies. Many people, Elvis himself included, believed he showed great potential as an actor. Unfortunately, he never had the chance to grow in the way he wanted. One of his greatest career regrets had to do with the stunted growth of his acting career.
Elvis wished he could have made more out of his film career
In 1975, Elvis had the opportunity to act in A Star Is Born alongside Barbra Streisand. He hadn’t been in a movie since 1969, but this was the opportunity he’d been waiting for. It was a serious, dramatic role about a washed-up musician, a part Elvis could understand a little too well at this point in his career.

The Joker and Harley Quinn are set to serenade audiences in “Joker: Folie à Deux,” but if, and how many original songs will be included in the film, is a mystery.
Insiders privy to filming and early versions of Todd Phillips’ eagerly awaited sequel to “Joker” tell Variety the movie leans heavily towards being “mostly a jukebox musical,” as it integrates at least 15 reinterpretations of “very well-known” songs. One is said to be “That’s Entertainment” from the 1953 musical “The Band Wagon,” famously associated with Judy Garland. However, there is a door open for an original song (or two) to be added to the final version. Details regarding who would pen the tracks, or sing the numbers are unknown. We do know, according to sources, Hildur Guðnadóttir, the Oscar-winning composer of the first “Joker” film, is said to “infuse her distinctive, haunting [music] cues” into each number. Warner Bros declined to comment.
