You may want to take LateNighter’s Saturday Night Live screen time reports for Sarah Sherman with a grain of salt, since some of her time this season could be attributed to a recurring guest star: her fake severed head.
As Sherman pointed out in an Instagram post this week, she was decapitated twice on the show this season.
In the post, (the real) Sherman can be seen posing alongside the model of her head. Also included is a photo of the prop head atop the muscular torso she wore in this season’s “Gym Call” sketch (alongside a photobomb by Triumph the Insult Comic Dog).
Sherman’s first beheading came in a pre-taped sketch last November with host Jason Momoa, who knocked off the head of Sherman’s tennis player character Charna Lee Diamond with a particularly strong serve.

Jake Gyllenhaal is still basking in his fame after the success of Road House, and pop star Sabrina Carpenter continues to make waves online after her viral hit ‘Espresso’, but put them together in a show and fans get one night of a blast. The Southpaw star was the lead guest host on Saturday Night Live while the singer was featured as the musical guest.
Sabrina Carpenter, Jake Gyllenhaal and Bowen Yang in Saturday Night Live / NBC
They both appeared in a sketch as Scooby-Doo characters, with Gyllenhaal starring as Fred and Carpenter as Daphne, as the gang investigates and explores a haunted house that soon took a bloody turn after Fred got a bit too serious. It only ran for 3 minutes, but the audience already became fans.

‘Madame Web’ is the latest installment in the Ssu, without Spider-Man in it, and it’s enough to say that the movie wasn’t successful at all. It was a commercial and critical failure with even the lead actress admitting that she would likely never do anything like this as well, and the rest of the cast “washing their hands” from the movie.
The movie lost money for the studio but it turned out to be a good source of memes and jokes, just like another infamous Ssu movie, ‘Morbius.’ And just like ‘Morbius,’ ‘Madame Web’ had so much publicity surrounding it that people otherwise unware of it (or Ssu for that matter) obviously had to check out what the fuss is all about since the movie turned out to be a streaming success after all.

‘Madame Web’ represents the latest installment in the Ssu, notably devoid of Spider-Man, and unfortunately, the film faced resounding failure both commercially and critically. The lead actress even confessed her reluctance to pursue similar projects in the future, while the rest of the cast distanced themselves from the movie.
Despite its shortcomings, ‘Madame Web’ emerged as a meme-worthy sensation, echoing the fate of another notorious Ssu film, ‘Morbius.’ The movie, like its counterpart, garnered substantial attention, prompting curiosity from audiences unaware of its existence or the Ssu. Ultimately, ‘Madame Web’ defied expectations by finding success through streaming platforms.
‘Madame Web’ made its Netflix debut, swiftly claiming the number one spot on Wednesday’s edition of the Netflix Top 10 Movies list just a day after its premiere on the platform.
Fan reactions have been…mixed. Many have observed that viewers were either hate-watching the movie or were utterly perplexed by its content.

On October 19, 2023, the first episodes of the sci-fi animated series Scavengers Reign by directors Joe Bennett and Charles Huettner premiered on Max.
The project grew from the short film Scavengers into a full-blown animated series about the crashed crew of a cargo ship. On a breathtakingly beautiful and carnivorous planet, the characters are forced to adapt to life alongside merciless parasitic organisms.
The great beauty of Scavengers Reign is that under the guise of a survival story, Bennett and Huettner offer an entire world structured like an unpredictable machine. The planet lives a life of its own – so enchanting and eerie that you can watch it endlessly.
The animated series is an unusual and exciting experience. With a minimum of dialogue, it asks a maximum of questions.

Can you imagine a world where the cheeriest of childhood memories intersect with heart-wrenching twists? It’s hard to believe, but Velma’s brutal death isn’t the first time a lead Scooby-Doo character has met a grim fate. Season 2 of Velma concluded with a perplexing scene involving Scrappy-Doo.
Starring Mindy Kaling in the voice role, Velma is an animated series that expands on the Scooby-Doo universe. Viewers were taken aback when Scrappy-Doo was exposed as Velma’s killer in the season two finale of Velma.

While fans of the series were left in disbelief at the loss of such a central character, this was not the first time a lead Scooby-Doo character has met their untimely end. For fans who had weathered the emotional storm of Scooby Apocalypse #25, Fred Jones’ death was more than just a surprise; it was an earth-shattering moment that left fans in disbelief.

Scooby-Doo, the infamous cowardly dog, and his gang of mystery solvers are a beloved part of our childhood. Having started as a cartoon, it has led to several sequels, cross-media adaptations, live-action, and more, and thus, has become no less than a cultural phenomenon today.
A still from the much-hated Scooby-Doo reboot, Velma
Yet, not all reboots, crossovers, or even characters have been as successful among fans. And for the past year, it has been the animated reboot Velma that has been drawing the wrath of Scooby fans. In a surprising turn of events, the most hated character of the mythos, Scrappy-Doo, seemed to have redeemed himself by killing another most hated character of the franchise, Velma!
Scrappy-Doo Redeems Himself By Killing Velma!
Mindy Kaling voices the character of Velma Dinkley in Velma
The Scooby-Doo franchise is huge and features several characters, yet not all characters have been as well-received by fans.

Seems like the question “Scooby-Doo, where are you?” soon will become very unnecessary — we know that it’ll be on Netflix.
The recent news concerning the fan-favorite cartoon franchise has just made it officially clear that Netflix is planning a big live-action reboot for Scooby-Doo’s story. The previous attempt to revive the story of detective teenagers with a troublemaking dog was made by HBO back in 2023 and eventually turned out to be a flop.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, for Scooby-Doo's new installment Netflix is teaming up with its frequent writer and producer Greg Berlanti famous for his work on the streaming’s hits like Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and You.
No significant details about the upcoming remake have been revealed yet, but the show is described as “live-action update of the classic cartoon” thus making it unclear whether it will have connections with other live-action installments of Hanna-Barbera’s beloved story.

Velma Season 2 on Max did not include the franchise's leading character, Scooby-Doo, and fans are wondering why.
The classic Scooby-Doo team is brought back in a mature-rated TV setting for Velma behind Mindy Kaling, giving fans a unique look at Velma Dinkley's origin story.
Although Season 1 garnered awful reviews (including a dismal 7% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes), Max renewed the series for a second season, which arrived on April 25.

The Velma Season 2 ending has fans flabbergasted, as Scrappy-Doo showed up to cause some trouble.
Featuring a more adult take on the beloved mystery-hunting world of Scooby-Doo, Velma finally returned to Max on April 25, following Mindy Kaling as the titular sleuth before the formation of Mystery Incorporated.
Season 2 picked up right where the first ended, with Velma enjoying her newfound popularity after thwarting the plot of the dastardly Victoria Jones. However, the good times do not last long as a new mystery ropes Velma back into the action, bringing in a couple of classic Scooby-Doo characters.

Fire up the mystery van because Netflix is about to close a deal for a live-action TV series based on the Hanna-Barbera animated series Scooby-Doo.
Sources say that the live-action Scooby-Doo project has a script-to-series commitment, which, assuming the script hits the right buttons, would mean it would receive a straight-to-series order. Josh Appelbaum & Scott Rosenberg (Cowboy Bebop) are set to write the series, as well as produce alongside André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner through their Midnight Radio banner. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman will executive produce the project via their Berlanti Productions banner.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine alumna Melissa Fumero, AnnaSophia Robb (The Act) and Ben Rappaport (For the People) are set as leads in Grosse Pointe Garden Society, NBC’s drama pilot from Jenna Bans, Bill Krebs and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
The drama follows four members of a suburban garden club — three of them played by Fumero, Robb and Rappaport — all from different walks of life, who get caught up in murder and mischief as they struggle to make their conventional lives bloom.
Fumero plays Birdie. Entitled, rich, swathed in Chanel, a smoker, a drinker, self-destructive at times, toxic at others, but not without real pain beneath her facade, Birdie is a successful author whose memoir, “Digging for Gold: Dancing Through Divorce,” is a bestseller.

Ever since its debut in 1969, Scooby-Doo has become one of the most treasured cartoons ever. From its unique narrative to iconic storylines, the cartoon show has spanned several episodes, series, movies, toys, games, and many more, with its characters and mythos a permanent part of popular culture.
The Scooby-Doo Gang
Even though there are several cartoons and animated series that enjoy similar popularity, what makes the adventures of Scooby-Doo and his friends is the countless crossovers they have had. From The Dark Knight to the Justice League and even Jensen Ackles’s Supernatural, the characters have had many memorable crossovers. But perhaps the best one was when they collaborated with WWE starring John Cena for an epic WrestleMania mystery.

Channing Dungey first joined Warner Bros. TV Group as chairman in late 2020 — right in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, which made for an interesting first year on the job. Then came the Warner Media-Discovery merger in 2022, and the restructuring that came with it. In 2023, the Hollywood strikes disrupted the business again.
“It’s been a lot of tumult since I’ve been in the role,” Dungey recently reflected to Variety. “I’m hoping — and I’m knocking wood as I say this — that as we round the corner into 2024, we’re behind some of those bigger challenges. I’m sure there will be something new on the horizon, but I’m hopeful that 2024 marks a return to business as usual.”
The entertainment industry remains in flux, of course, with more disruption anticipated this year. But in her own corner of the biz, Dungey said she feels some truly positive momentum.

As we wrap up our year-end coverage, IndieWire looks back at the people, projects, and ideas that defined 2023 — and what’s coming next.

Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav may well have had a big part in crafting the tentative agreement between striking writers and Hollywood studios over the weekend, but on the heels of that triumph, Wbd looks to be mired in a much different type of controversy.

Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen knows the industry is “being much more bullish” about adult animation than when his popular programming block premiered in 2001 on Cartoon Network. It’s a noteworthy shift for Western audiences, who’ve spent decades watching mostly family sitcoms dominate the medium.
“Without people making animation synonymous with kids only, I don’t even know if we’d ever use the term ‘adult animation.’ It’s a term that’s in negation of a perception. Animation is not one thing. It’s a production method that allows for a lot of things that other production methods don’t allow for,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. “There’s something secret about animation that allows it to last longer, travel more and mean more to people — for them to wear it as their identity a little easier — than other production methods.”

There’s a funny little irony to the very existence of Max’s Clone High. Originally created for MTV in the early aughts, the animated comedy centers around a bunch of teenagers who are genetic copies of notable historical figures, reborn for a new era. Now the series itself has been resurrected with much the same DNA (creators Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Bill Lawrence all return, as do most of the voice cast), but in a whole new environment.
