After his star-studded roles in other superhero and action franchises, including his long-term work as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the latest addition as Dr. Dementus in the Mad Max lore, Chris Hemsworth, seems to be all set to jump into his next big project. What’s more, his next role may reportedly be in a collision movie of two of the biggest action franchises of all time.

According to exclusive reports, Hemsworth is being eyed to star in a crossover movie of multi-billionaire G.I. Joe and Transformers franchises. But as much as this is a piece of fantastic news for all of his fans out there, Peter Cullen fans don’t seem to be all too happy about it. And, if anything, their anger just may be over nothing if these reports turn out to be true.

Chris Hemsworth has been very open about his appreciation for Marvel and his character Thor. But he also felt there were certain qualities of shooting those types of superhero features that could be tiresome.

Hemsworth has seemingly grown very attached to Marvel’s Asgardian superhero. So much so he once shared that he planned to play the character for as long as he could. But although Hemsworth got his big break doing Marvel features, he’s branched out into other more grounded action movies as well. He’s starred in the hit Netflix movies Extraction and Extraction 2.
While doing Thor: Ragnarok, he also signed up for the film 12 Strong. The feature was an action thriller based on a true story about a United States soldier going to war in Afghanistan.

For a comic book movie franchise that has never reached the heights of most Marvel or DC films of the last two decades, "Hellboy" has remained shockingly resilient. To that end, Mike Mignola's beloved character is set for yet another big-screen reboot in the form of "Hellboy: The Crooked Man." This time around, the character will be headed back to the 1950s for a folk horror adventure based on one the most celebrated storylines from the comics.
This will be the character's first film since 2019's "Hellboy." Starring David Harbour, it proved to be a critical and commercial disaster. Be that as it may, Millennium Media is set to try to bring the character to life once again with a lower-budget take on the material. So, when will you be able to see the movie? Who is playing Hellboy? Who is directing this time around? We've got all of...

Hollywood action films set in the Middle East cover a considerable portion of the present action genre. America’s thirst for glory has no bounds, and the way it uses such movies as a tool of hegemony is rather lucid if one is looking for it. Some of you might be wondering where I’m headed with this, but all I’m saying is that in all these movies, America becomes a beacon of hope, valor, sacrifice, and “worth” (pun intended if you remember how Captain America lifted Thor’s hammer in Avengers: Endgame). Anyway, coming back to the topic, here are five movies like Kandahar that you can watch. Although there are many, the list I’ve made is based on the first few names that came to mind that I’ve seen and liked. To make the list shorter, all these movies are based in the Middle East...

Kandahar reunites is director Rick Roman Waugh with Gerard Butler, after they made Angel Has Fallen and Greenland together. This time they tackle the spy thriller genre, with cast that includes Travis Fimmel, Navid Negahban, Ali Fazal, and Bahador Foladi. With the script penned by Mitchell Lafortune, these particular types of stories often suffer from narrative sameness: westerner travels to the Middle East, things go boom, westerner saves the day, the end. This follows a predictable path.
The story begins in Iran with Tom Harris (Butler) with his partner Oliver (Tom Rhys Harries) working on wiring at a nuclear plant center. This cover is just to deposit a bomb. The two are surrounded by guards who become suspicious of their intentions, but Harris de-escalates the situation, and they manage to get away. In /Film's review of "Guy Ritchie's The Covenant," the critic (yours truly) made passing reference to the fact that the film was based on a real-life story, and stated that army sergeant John Kinley, the role played by Jake Gyllenhaal in the movie, was a real person. This wasn't accurate. While the film was extrapolated from a patchwork of actual events and experiences that happened during the Afghanistan war, it was not a direct biography of any one person in particular. As it happens, there is no actual person named John Kinley who fought in Afghanistan. The error has been corrected.
"The Covenant" is about how Kinley was assigned a battle-capable interpreter named Ahmed (Dar Salim) to help him and his platoon locate Taliban bomb-making facilities. There’s no denying Chris Hemsworth is one of the biggest stars in the world. However, when you take away his work as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his filmography has quite a few misses. There’s his work in the “Ghostbusters” reboot in 2016, then you have the failed attempt to reboot the “Men in Black” franchise. Let’s not forget about the middling “Spiderhead” and “12 Strong.” But there is one shining star in his non-Marvel work—the high-octane action film, “Extraction.” Now, it looks like Hemsworth, along with filmmaker Sam Hargrave and producers/writers, the Russo Brothers are ready to turn that hit Netflix film into an official franchise with an upcoming sequel.

It doesn't feel like all that long ago we were getting ready for a "Hellboy" reboot from director Neil Marshall ("The Descent") with David Harbour, of "Stranger Things" fame, in the title role. Harbour looked great, the cast had a lot of promise, and yet, the film flopped spectacularly when it debuted in 2019 both critically and commercially. Be that as it may, Millennium Media is going to give it another try with an R-rated, horror-skewing take on the Dark Horse Comics character in the form of "Hellboy: The Crooked Man." And, for better or worse, it seems very much like it's going to be a lower budget affair, particularly as comic-book movies go.
Even 2019's "Hellboy" only carried a reported $50 million budget, which is modest compared to say a Marvel movie, which can easily cost close to $200 million these days. But we have some evidence that suggests Millennium is going...

Just last week, we learned that a new attempt was being made to bring Mike Mignola's Hellboy to the big screen. And by that, we mean a new new attempt, ditching the version starring David Harbour. So who is the new Hellboy? Step forward Jack Kesy.
In case this is your cue to say, "who Kesy"? you might have seen him in Deadpool 2 (briefly), 12 Strong, Baywatch and TV shows such as The Strain and Claws.
The new movie, which features Crank's Brian Taylor directing and Mignola writing the script alongside comics collaborator Christopher Golden, will adapt The Crooked Man. The story sees Hellboy stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia with a rookie Bprd agent. There they discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man.

A new month has arrived, which means a fresh batch of movies and TV shows streaming on Netflix. Most monumentally, the beginning of the month saw the conclusion of “Stranger Things 4,” which began back in May but is just now finishing up. (There’ll be one more season before the series winds down.) Other new Netflix original series this month include the horror-comedy “Boo, Bitch,” the fourth season of “Virgin River” and the fifth season of all-ages animated spin-off “Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous” (which we’ve heard has some surprising connections to this summer’s blockbuster “Jurassic World: Dominion”).
On the Netflix original films side of things, the biggest new release is undoubtedly “The Gray Man.” A nonstop action extravaganza from Joe and Anthony Russo, the directing duo behind “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgmane,” it stars Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling as dueling spies. There’s also a new...

It’s getting easier to predict which movies will become seemingly out-of-nowhere successes on Netflix. While on the television side of the spectrum, flashy new series or returning hits routinely become the top streaming shows, the calculus doesn’t always add up the same way for the streamer’s film library. For instance, this week one of the top films on Netflix was 2018’s 12 Strong, a Chris Hemsworth-led war film set in Afghanistan in the immediate aftermath of 9/11.
When the film was released, it received middling reviews from critics and an unspectacular 70 million at the box office, about half of what Hemsworth’s latest film, Thor: Love and Thunder, made in one weekend. So why is this recent, but mostly forgotten film getting heavy play on the streaming giant? Because of its star.

Although “Everything Everywhere All at Once” (A24/4.99) has been in the theatrical box office top 10 for most of its 17-week run, it has never been #1. On its best weekend it reached #4, very impressive for an unanticipated independent hit up against the strongest lineup in over two years.
This week, Daniels’ acclaimed multiverse fantasy is a unanimous #1 across three VOD charts. It came close to this when initially released at 19.99 last month, but at the lower price it has corralled all for the first time — and it’s the first time a film outside a major studio has achieved this.
The price drop (1 less than the usual next step of 5.99) may have helped a little at iTunes and Google Play, which count the volume of transactions. But despite its lower price, it also is #1 at Vudu, which ranks by total dollars paid by viewers.
Beyond its increased reach, two factors influence its ranking.

One might think playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would make it easier for Chris Hemsworth to have free rein when it comes to his other projects, but that hasn't always been the case. Far too often, the actor has found himself with a gun in his hands and scruff on his face, starring in potboiler fare like "Red Dawn," "12 Strong," and "Extraction." Even the "Snow White and the Huntsman" films mistake Hemsworth's strengths as being that of an action hero first, a good-humored character actor second. Yet, as evident by his role in "Thor: Love and...

Also leaving HBO and HBO Max this month is a bevy of Tyler Perry’s Madea movies, “Rounders,” “She’s All That” and “Real Steel.”
If you’re looking to prioritize some selections, “Presumed Innocent” is one of Harrison Ford’s most underrated films (featuring one of his best performances) and the Melissa McCarthy/Jason Bateman comedy “Identity Thief” is good for some solid laughs.
Check out the full list of what’s leaving HBO Max below.

I figured I should probably watch 1986’s Top Gun before my press screening of its impending sequel, Top Gun: Maverick. Often it’s the case with classic films — I use the phrase loosely here — I’ve not seen that I’m embarrassed to admit that. I can’t say that’s true here, but I am mystified as to how I’ve managed to avoid this movie for almost 40 years. I’m not sure how I missed it when it was new. I mean! Summer of ’86, when this was released, I was 17 years old, and I was going to the movies a lot. It was the season of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Manhattan Project, Aliens, The Fly, and Stand by Me. All was geeky GenX glory. Maybe there were just too many movies. Strange to think that could be it, when there are so many more vying for our attention now.
