Exclusive: Matt Lanter (Jupiter’s Legacy) and newcomer Sophia Esperanza have joined Prime Video’s Motorheads cast in recurring roles, Deadline has learned exclusively.
From writer-showrunner John A. Norris, Motorheads is about first love, first heartbreak, and turning the key in your very first car. Set in a once-thriving rust-belt town that’s now searching for a glimmer of hope, the series is the adrenaline-filled story of a group of outsiders who form an unlikely friendship over a mutual love of automobiles. And while some characters will be navigating the hierarchy and rules of high school, others will be racing from a dark past.
The series also includes previously announced stars Ryan Phillippe, Nathalie Kelley, Michael Cimino, Melissa Collazo, Uriah Shelton, Drake Rodger, Johnna Dias-Watson, Josh Macqueen and Mia Healey.
Lanter will portray Darren, a wealthy and powerful father of 17-year-old Harris (Macqueen), who, like his dad, is a serious street racer.

Fun trivia: one of the working titles for Wes Craven's 1996 slasher satire "Scream" was "Scary Movie." Filmmaker Keenan Ivory Wayans got wind of this trivia, and decided in 2000 to make a film called "Scary Movie" intended to satirize the popularity of "Scream." The late 1990s were a curious time in popular culture, as there weren't too many dominant horror trends. Popular music was beginning to comment on its own self-awareness (see: "Flagpole Sitta") and irony became ironic. Self-reflection went from a healthy Socratic exercise into a loop of eternal recurrence. By 2000, we became so busy commenting on our own commentaries, that it was hard to see where we started. This is where "Scary Movie" dropped in.
Make no mistake, "Scary Movie" is unfunny, as are its many sequels. They're cheap, homophobic, and vulgar. Wayans took his model from spoof filmmakers like Zucker/Abrahams/Zucker, but aimed to make something...

I'm going to need you to remember back to the very early days of the MCU. Robert Downey Jr. was Tony Stark, played with all the snark and charisma you could ever want from a genius billionaire playboy philanthropist character, and Edward Norton was the tortured Bruce Banner, a role he wasn't destined to hold on to.
A "Captain America" movie was coming up and ... well, people had opinions. Some wanted a grounded Cap, some wanted a badass Cap, and some wanted something more in line with Rdj's Tony Stark. The thing is, we had never gotten a good Captain America on screen before. We'd gotten one terrible "Captain America" film in 1990 from schlockmeister Albert Pyun ("Cyborg" and "The Sword and the Sorcerer"), and the character had pretty much fallen out of favor to all but the most die-hard Marvel comics fans.
He was too Goodie Two Shoes, at least that was the perception,...

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian has gone all out horror mode in the new teaser for ‘American Horror Story’ Season 12, where she acts like a demented cyber-ghost or something.
The teaser then proceeds to show faceless figures moving as one in a circle amid ominous images of a cradle and carriage. Filled with some spooky dance and at the end cradling a baby like a bride of Dracula, Kardashian’s look is similar to what would happen if a bride of Dracula went all modern day steam-punk.
In the teaser, the reality TV star is seen donning a haunting black gown, complete with long white locks and a creepy stare as she holds a baby, with a creepy version of the famous ‘Rock-a-Bye Baby’ song playing in the background.

“I am, of course, yes, yes,” she told Variety‘s Marc Malkin at the Met Gala when he asked if she was taking acting lessons (watch below). Kardashian added, “You know, it’s a challenge. I like to challenge myself.”

The Master of Comedy, Mel Brooks, is back to take another swipe at some of history’s most iconic figures and events with History of the World, Part II. Over 40 years since Brooks’ original film made a mockery of Moses, introduced the first caveman critic, and turned the Spanish Inquisition into a song-and-dance routine, the legendary comedian is ready for another trip through the ages. Times certainly have changed, but Brooks’s knack for making fun of humankind’s victories and losses remains as sharp as ever. Hulu debuted a History of the World Part 2 teaser trailer on Friday, featuring a massive cast of comedy greats in the making.
Here’s the official synopsis:
After waiting over 40 years, there is finally a sequel to the seminal Mel Brooks film, History of the World, Part I, with each episode featuring a variety of sketches that take us through different periods of human history.

For a good long while, it seemed that the parody had become the lowest possible form of comedy. With such abhorrent cinematic garbage piles like the works of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer dominating the form for nearly a decade, it felt like almost no one even knew how to make a decent parody anymore, let alone a good one.
Enter Dan Harmon. Thanks to his groundbreaking sitcom "Community" and its numerous episodes that parodied everything from specific classic movies to genres, he and his writers proved that parody could be more than just empty references and callbacks. Putting down-to-earth characters who go to a community college inside a pseudo-zombie apocalypse, as in one episode, is an extension of the way Edgar Wright made films first and parodies second in his early work like "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz."

March 2022 is a great month for blonde women with cold, dead stares on Hulu.
With its list of new releases for March 2022, Hulu is highlighting two major original series ripped straight from the headlines. The first is The Dropout, which premieres on March 3. This show stars Amanda Seyfried (taking over from the previously cast Kate McKinnon) as Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes. This story about high-level corporate fraud is truly wild, enough so to accommodate several books, podcasts, and even an upcoming film starring Jennifer Lawrence. Hulu is certainly hoping its version is the definitive one.

This story about high-level corporate fraud is truly wild, enough so to accommodate several books, podcasts, and even an upcoming film starring Jennifer Lawrence. Hulu is certainly hoping its version is the definitive one.

TV had the run of the place for awhile there during the pandemic. But now that vaccinations are speeding up and the weather is warming, it’s film’s time to shine. At least that’s the conclusion that can be drawn from HBO Max’s list of new releases for June 2021.
There are no real original TV series of note coming this month, which is highly unusual for HBO and HBO Max. In their place, however, are some really impressive film offerings. Major Warner Bros. titles like The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (June 4) and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights (June 11) both arrive this month. So too do some interesting documentaries like Revolutionary Rent on June 15 and Lfg on June 24. The former deals with the staging of the musical Rent in Cuba and the latter follows the U.S. women’s soccer team’s fight for equal pay.

Airplane (1980) could have derailed the careers of everyone involved. For example, people under 40 may not even know that until this movie, Leslie Nielsen was strictly a serious actor in dramas both on TV and in film. Many may watch 1973’s The Poseidon Adventure for the first time today and keep waiting for Leslie Nielson – as the captain of the doomed ship – to get up from the dining room table wearing just his heart-covered underwear below the waist, or for him to make that first clueless remark. He never does. But from Airplane onward, he was strictly a comic actor and a good one.

Sony/Screen Gems’ “The Grudge” has now joined an infamous list of movies by becoming the 20th film to receive an F in the CinemaScore audience poll.
Directed by Nicolas Pesce and produced by horror maven Sam Raimi, the film was an attempt to revive Takashi Shimizu’s famed horror series about the vengeful ghost of a woman who kills anyone who enters the home where she was murdered and spreads her curse to the various murder scenes. First released in 2002, Shimizu directed an American remake for Sony in 2004, the events of which occur alongside this new film starring Andrea Riseborough, Demián Bichir, John Cho and Betty Gilpin.
But the film’s violent nature and inability to add anything new to the “Grudge” formula has resulted in it being panned by both audiences and critics.

Looking back on this still-young century makes clear that 2007 was a major time for cinematic happenings — and, on the basis of this retrospective, one we’re not quite through with ten years on. One’s mind might quickly flash to a few big titles that will be represented, but it is the plurality of both festival and theatrical premieres that truly surprises: late works from old masters, debuts from filmmakers who’ve since become some of our most-respected artists, and mid-career turning points that didn’t necessarily announce themselves as such at the time. Join us as an assembled team, many of whom were coming of age that year, takes on their favorites.

It barely sounds like James Franco answering The Disaster Artist Billboard phone number but it’s him. His attempt to sound like Tommy Wiseau is fair but doesn’t have quite the same pitch and tone. If you hear the two of them speak then you’d know that there is a huge difference between their voices. Yet now that he’s come out with his own film called The Disaster Movie as a lead-in, or homage, or something to The Room, Franco took it upon himself to answer several calls that were phoned in to the number on the billboard. This is perhaps

The Hot Shots! movies were the peak of spoof cinema in the 1990s. We take a look back...
Spoof. Say it aloud. Feels like a dirty word doesn’t it?
Aside from even sounding slightly smutty, the spoof movie genre has, of late, been sullied by (five!) Scary Movies, Meet The Spartans and - oh, the irony - Disaster Movie. Transitory, devoid of wit and with the lowest common denominator in their crosshairs, these movies aimed for the tittering teenager, the cheap thrill-seeker and the perpetually stoned.
Perhaps the above seems like a sweeping generalisation, but it’s with good cause. Where these movies and even the term spoof itself have since been eschewed, there remains a series of films which occupy a place of fondness in the heart of - including yours truly, obvs - many a film fan: the Zaz movies.

History will ultimately determine the merits of Darren Aronofsky‘s divisive “mother!,” but among the many things it will be remembered for, is being one of only 19 movies in history receive an F-grade CinemaScore. Determined by exit polls of moviegoers’ opinions of films on opening night, the movies that have been deemed as failures include terrific pictures like William Friedkin‘s “Bug” and Andrew Dominik‘s “Killing Them Softly,” and interesting efforts like Steven Soderbergh‘s “Solaris.” But yes, there is also trash on there too like the Lindsay Lohan flick “I Know Who Killed Me” and the parody flick “Disaster Movie.” However, Aronofsky believes there’s no way his “mother!” could’ve received any other score.

Hollywood is bonkers for metrics — there’s Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic rankings, and the classic CinemaScore, which provides a handy letter grade at the end of opening weekend for each big-screen release. It’s as easily digested as an elementary school report card, but CinemaScores don’t measure quality. They measure “movie appeal,” which boils down to one major question: Does the movie I saw reflect the movie advertised?
Movies that tend to do well on the CinemaScore curve — recent “A” movies include “Girls Trip,” “Leap!,” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming” — are typically more mainstream: straightforward marketing for straightforward movies. There’s nothing wrong with marketing films to their audience. However, the system also dings films for going in unusual directions with their marketing, which is further proof that metrics may or may not correlate with quality.

It’s also making a lot of people think that movies such as The Day After Tomorrow are more on point than anyone might want to believe. There are a great many doubters obviously and even cynics that state that Hollywood knows how to make a good disaster thriller

Whatever happened to the all-star-cast disaster movie? A staple of the box office charts for a good decade, disaster movies were to the 1970s what the superhero movie may be to the 2010s: a cash cow that was eventually milked dry. Starting today the Quad Cinema in New York is reviving the brand with a terrific series called “Disasterpieces,” featuring eight classics of the genre alongside its greatest parody and two precursors.Disaster movie posters are a genre unto themselves. For the most part they have three major elements: an eye-grabbing tagline—“91,000 People. 33 Exit Gates. One Sniper...”, “One Tiny Spark Becomes a Night of Blazing Suspense”, “Something hit us... the crew is dead... help us, please, please help us!”—a painted backdrop of catastrophe in medias res, and, most importantly, the grid of stars.Disaster movies require a large cast because they require a high body count and a measure...

It’s almost impossible to extricate the Boston Marathon bombings of April 15, 2013 from the city itself. From the media coverage after the explosions to the ensuing manhunt that captured international attention, all eyes were fixed on the city, both in its aftermath and its response. To memorialize the efforts of first responders, law enforcement and ordinary citizens, Peter Berg’s “Patriots Day” distills its focus to the principal players. Making this select cross-section of newsmakers may not have captured the entire city, but the film executes those landmark moments on the bombings timeline with haunting tenacity.

During a Facebook Live post recorded earlier today, the actor revealed that he and his frequent collaborator are at work on a screenplay about athlete-turned-priest Father Stuart Long.

“David O. Russell and I right now are working on developing a script on Father Stu, who was an amazing priest from Helena, Montana,” said Wahlberg. “He was a very tough guy who was a fighter, a football player…anything but a spiritual guy. He found his calling, and decided, after falling in love with a woman, that he wanted to become a priest. He suffered from this horrible muscular degenerative disease but was still ordained as a priest and passed away,...

In Walter Hill’s bizarre gender-bending B-movie “(re)Assignment,” Michelle Rodriguez plays a gun-toting hitman transformed into woman against his/her will by a revenge-seeking Sigourney Weaver. Why would you not want to see this?
Here are a few reasons.
Hill may have directed some of the more endearing action showdowns over the last 30 years, from “The Warriors” to “48 Hrs.,” but “re(Assignment)” is an amateur work. Cheesy without being self-aware, hobbled by rampant transphobia that the screenplay’s too dumb to address, this inane burst of campy stupidity can’t get beyond the sheer absurdity of its very existence.

However, the outrageous scenario isn’t the film’s biggest problem. As Dr. Rachel Kay, Weaver is a dime-store Hannibal Lecter who spends most of the movie in a straightjacket, mechanically recalling her scheme to a stone-faced psychologist (Tony Shaloub,...

Peter Berg likes stories about regular people — the kind of people who work on oil rigs and and don’t necessarily relate to on-screen smoothies like James Bond — and for the self-professed “second half” of his directing career, including films like “Lone Survivor,” Berg has started focusing on just that. For his latest film, the fact-based “Deepwater Horizon,” Berg turns his attention to the 2010 oil rig disaster on the eponymous Louisiana drilling platform, with thrilling — and often heart-wrenching — results.
The film follows the rig on its last viable day, as the so-called “bad well” starts collapsing after a series of terrible decisions, systematic breakdowns and just plain old pressure slowly render it not only inoperable, but hugely dangerous. Berg’s frequent star Mark Wahlberg stars as electrician Mike Williams, who leads the film alongside Kurt Russell as the rig’s head honcho, Gina Rodriquez as a whipsmart member of the...
