The Burning Sea is a Norwegian film with an interesting, albeit depressing conceit…
In 1969, the Norwegian government announces their discovery of one of the world’s largest oil fields in the neighbouring North Sea, launching a prosperous period of offshore drilling. Fifty years later, the environmental consequences begin to manifest – a crack has opened on the ocean floor, causing a rig to collapse. A team of researchers, including submarine operator Sofia (Kristine Kujath Thorp), rushes in to search for the missing and assess the cause of the damage. But what they discover is that this is just the start of a possible apocalyptic catastrophe. As rigs are evacuated, Sofia’s partner Stian (Henrik Bjelland) becomes trapped in the depths of the sea,...

The setup for the Russian horror movie The Superdeep sounds very familiar, in which a research team digs up more than they bargained for at a snowy drill site. What they discover puts humanity’s survival at stake. Despite a plot and trailer, both suggestive of a creature-heavy effort, reading like another copycat of The Thing, The Superdeep attempts to forge […]...

Pulsar Content has closed multiple pre-sales on Arseny Sukhin’s science-fiction horror movie “Superdeep” in the run up to its world premiere at Sitgès.
Inspired by true events, the movie stars Milena Radulovic (“The Balkan Line”) and Nikita Duvbanov, and is set in 1984, when inexplicable screams were recorded in Kola Superdeep Borehole, the biggest secret lab in the Ussr. In the wake of these events, Kola Superdeep was closed and a small research team went down to find out what the world’s deepest borehole was hiding. What they discovered turned out to be the greatest threat to mankind, leaving them very little chance to ever come back to the surface.
The English-language movie was acquired by Shudder for North America, the U.K. and Australia/New Zealand in a deal overseen by XYZ Films.

Taglight "No Light. No Salvation." The Superdeep is a Russian film. From Murmansk, this film takes place at the Kola Superdeep Borehole. Here, scientists have drilled so far down, that they have reached the depths of Hell. Now, trapped souls are emerging from twelve kilometres below ground. And, those who come up have been changed forever. The first trailer for Roman Karimov's The Superdeep is a good one and is found below. To star Artyom Tsukanov (Black Lightning), The Superdeep is expected to release in the country in which it was shot, Russia, this September. The Superdeep trailer stands out for a few reasons. The premise is horrifying alone. But, the images also show characters transformed into something strange. Utilizing practical effects, the characters (from the hole) become more and more nightmarish as the trailer plays on. This film is based on an urban legend. From the '80s,...
