Exclusive: Gersh has signed actor Ben Barnes for representation in all areas.
Barnes can be seen in BAFTA-winning director Anand Tucker’s crime drama The Critic, opposite Mark Strong, Ian McKellen, and Gemma Arterton, which premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival. It’s set for release in the UK on September 13.
Barnes is maybe best known for his lead role as General Kirigan in Eric Heisserer’s popular Netflix series Shadow and Bone, based on the bestselling novels by Leigh Bardugo.
Prior to Shadow and Bone, Barnes starred opposite Crispin Glover in a mind-bending episode of Guillermo Del Toro’s Emmy nominated anthology series, Cabinet of Curiosities and most recently played a lead role opposite Salma Hayek, Michael Cera, and Himesh Patel in the latest season of the award-winning Netflix series Black Mirror. Lilah Fitzgerald has signed on to join AMC’s “Lucky Hank” in a guest role.
Formerly titled “Straight Man,” the eight-episode dramedy follows William Henry “Hank” Devereaux Jr. (Bob Odenkirk), an unlikely chairman in a badly underfunded college in the Pennsylvania rust belt. Just as Hank’s career and home life begins to unravel, his wife Lily (Mirielle Enos) also decides to take a look at some of her past choices that led to her current reality. Based on the novel by Richard Russo, the series is told in first person from Hank’s point of view.
The “Monster High” alum will play one of the students at the school with a special interest in starting an organization to “avert mediocrity.” However, she seems to have some underlying ulterior motives.
Other previously announced cast members include Alvina August, Sara Amini, Diedrich Bader, Suzanne Cryer, Olivia Scott Welch, Arthur Keng and Cedric Yarbrough.

2015's "Jupiter Ascending" was meant to be a glorious return to ambitious sci-fi for Lilly and Lana Wachowski, the duo that brought us "The Matrix," one of the most significant genre films of all time. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned for the filmmakers, as the film went on to become one of the biggest bombs of the decade, barely making back its massive production budget in ticket sales, representing huge losses for Warner Bros.
But what went wrong? The movie had a great A-list cast led by Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis, not to mention eventual Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne. It also had the Wachowskis behind the camera and immense financial resources. Yet, the pieces of the puzzle that ultimately came together don't form a picture that audiences were all that interested in -- at least not nearly enough to justify the film's massive budget.

Sasha’s father has just died and as the last of her line she’s gotten everything. So she and her husband Peter hop a flight to Kyiv to check out part of the inheritance. A large townhouse that originally belonged to her grandfather. It’s a huge, beautiful, townhouse in the center of the city. Which means the fact it’s sat empty since he for so long should be a hint that there’s something wrong. The glares from people on the street as they arrive should be another. The housekeeper’s elusiveness when asked about these things should have them sleeping in a hotel.
Writer/directors Chad Barager and Kevin Speckmaier don’t waste any time confirming our suspicions that the building is indeed haunted.

The renewed thirst for Shadow and Bone's Ben Barnes has steadily been building since it was first announced in 2019 he would join the Netflix adaptation as General Kirigan. On a personal note, my love for the 39-year-old actor began after seeing him in 2007's Stardust and was firmly cemented with his role as the titular Prince Caspian in 2008's The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. Since then, he's been both villains and heroes with roles like Logan Delos on Westworld, Billy Russo on The Punisher, Dorian Grey in Dorian Grey, Tom Ward in Seventh Son, and Samuel Adams on Sons of Liberty. Thanks to Shadow and Bone, which premieres on Netflix on April 23, he's back in the fantasy element so many of us first fell in love with him in.
It's hard not to be drawn in by Ben as not only is he gorgeous, he sings and absolutely adores his fans.

On a weekend with some semblance of indoor theatrical moviegoing, the VOD and streaming charts hit maximum inconsistency. Among our four top-10 VOD rankings: Four different titles placed #1 and 25 movies occupied 40 total positions. Only “The Tax Collector” (#1 FandangoNow) and “The Silencing” (#1 AppleTV) made all four lists.
The other two #1 positions were taken by 2013 Jason Statham-starrer “Homefront” (Google Play), likely boosted by its bargain $3.99 price. At Spectrum, “The Deep Blue Sea 3” took the top spot as it moved off premium pricing.
Among the titles that debuted last Friday, “The Vanished,” directed by actor Peter Facinelli and starring Thomas Jane and Anne Heche as parents searching for their daughter, scored best. It was in second or third place at three sites (Spectrum ends its chart before Friday releases). The higher-profile “Tesla” from Michael Almereyda starring Ethan Hawke debuted at #2 at Apple TV, a platform that often presages later success at other sites.

Based on how often the works of Adam Sandler spend hovering around Netflix’s Top 10 list, the streaming service’s most popular titles are not always the best, with further evidence being provided by The Last Days of American Crime and steamy Polish thriller 365 Dni both taking the top spot in recent months, even though both movies suffered the ignominy of a 0% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Having received a negative response upon its 2014 release, it’s perhaps surprising that Seventh Son is now finding an audience on Netflix. The Sergei Bodrov-directed picture is currently number 7 in the rankings on the streamer’s most-watched films list, an impressive feat considering the amount of competition that it faces. Like many other titles that have received a second shot on the platform, though, Seventh Son is now inviting a reappraisal of sorts of its merits.
Based, albeit loosely, on Joseph Delaney’s novel The Spook’s Apprentice, Seventh Son stars Ben Barnes as Thomas Ward, who as the seventh son of a seventh son, is drawn into a fantasy adventure. Jeff Bridges co-headlines as Master Gregory, otherwise known as a “Spook,” a witch hunter who takes Tom under his wing. The likes of Julianne Moore, Kit Harington and Alicia Vikander, meanwhile, fill out an impressive cast for the fantasy adventure.

This Sunday’s a pretty notable one for Netflix as the streaming giant has just added three big, but totally different, movies. One is an Oscar-winning smash hit, another is a franchise-starting British comedy and the third is a big budget fantasy mega-flop. Let’s go through them in chronological order, shall we?
First off, 2003’s Johnny English drops on Netflix today. Mr. Bean’s Rowan Atkinson stars as the titular bumbling British spy in this James Bond spoof that eventually formed a trilogy – with 2011’s Johnny English Reborn and 2018’s Johnny English Strikes Again, which were both just as commercially successful. In this one, though, English must stop evil Pascal Sauvage (John Malkovich) from seizing the throne.
What’ll no doubt be the most popular of today’s releases with subscribers is 2012’s Les Miserables. One of the biggest movies of that year – but also one of the most...

With the exception of niche services like the horror-centric Shudder or DC Universe, the latter of which looks like it could be on its way out anyway, all of the major streaming services pride themselves on offering a wide array of content from almost every genre, which is pretty understandable when the name of the game is to scoop up as many paying customers as possible.
The streaming wars have only started to really heat up over the last couple of years and it seems the idea is to give subscribers a buffet of options that tick every conceivable box depending what they’re in the mood for at any given time. Of course, Netflix is still the leader in this regard and they’ve added three movies today that perfectly exemplify this approach, as they couldn’t be any more different.

Building on a busy month for library expansions, Netflix are now planning to put up a number of new titles this week. In terms of what’s coming from August 10th to August 16th, highlights include four seasons of The Legend of Korra, original movie Project Power, and critical favorites such as Nightcrawler. What, then, can we expect from the streamer in the next few days?
Well, the aforementioned Project Power has been gradually generating buzz over its concept, wherein a drug lord provides users with a product that can temporarily grant superpowers. Set in New Orleans, the Netflix picture stars Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, with directing duties falling to Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. You can catch the trailer for this one up above, with the film arriving on August 14th.

Now that we’re two thirds of the way through July, we’ve got a pretty good idea of what’s coming to Netflix next month. New titles are being added all the time and while some days remain lacking in content at present, on the whole we know what to expect on the streaming service in August. As always, there’s a huge variety, too, from foreign titles to documentaries to new TV series to much-anticipated Netflix originals.
Some of the more notable additions to the line-up that have been added since it was first announced last week include 2003’s Seabiscuit, the jockey drama starring Tobey Maguire, and the next season of Transformers Rescue Bots Academy, both coming on the first day of the month. And remember, this is far from the full list of new arrivals for August, as it only encompasses what’s been announced so far,...

I did a double take when I saw the headline myself. Despite only launching a week ago, a not inconsiderable number of titles will be leaving HBO Max at the end of June. Logically, distribution contracts that were already running out weren’t going to stop running out just because Warner launched their new service, so you best get on these quick.
Here’s the list of all the movies leaving HBO Max on June 30th:
The Abyss
Akeelah and the Bee
American Wedding
An Ideal Husband
Arthur
Asylum

‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ Didn’t Roar at the Domestic Box Office but Legendary Isn’t Sweating
Legendary Entertainment’s “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” didn’t stomp through North American movie theaters, instead treading to just $49 million in its opening weekend — roughly half that of its 2014 predecessor.
But Legendary, founded by Thomas Tull and owned by the Chinese conglomerate Wanda Group since 2016, isn’t sweating the early returns for the film, which had a kaiju-size budget of $170 million, according to BoxOfficeMojo. The studio is breathing easy because its focus is very much overseas, where the film grossed a solid $130 million — including $70 million in China alone.
“Over the past few years, they have been focusing on blockbuster style films that often see the majority of their box office coming from the international marketplace,” Paul Dergarabedian, senior analyst at ComScore, said. “If you look at the money the films have made — even just the MonsterVerse — it’s a huge amount of money… There’s a huge international interest in these films.

Julianne Moore isn’t just the Mvp when the cameras are rolling. Alicia Vikander reveals in her new Vogue cover story that Moore came to her defense after a man made a crude joke towards Vikander on the set of the 2014 fantasy film “Seventh Son.” The Sergei Bodrov-directed movie featured both Moore and Vikander in supporting roles. After a man said something inappropriate to Vikander, Moore jumped in and yelled at him.
“I was really embarrassed, and I would have just laughed it off,” Vikander says. “But Julianne turned to him and said, ‘If you ever do that again, I’m walking out of here and I’m not coming back.’ She was just, like, ‘Don’t you f—ing say that again.’ It showed me that she had the power. And that meant so much to me.”

Here’s a phrase I do not recall from Kingsman: The Secret Service: “independent intelligence agency.” This is uttered in Kingsman: The Golden Circle in connection with the American counterpart to Kingsman: Statesman, to which we are introduced here. But what does that mean, precisely? It means they’re mercenary spies, doesn’t it? I have a vague recollection of Secret Service mentioning something about Kingsman being funded by the crown heads of Europe, which at least offers a veneer of governmental authority and fealty to law and order — though of course there...

There’s nothing worse than watching people you admire show up in movies you immediately regret watching: Ben Kingsley in “The Love Guru,” Julianne Moore in “Seventh Son,” Viola Davis in “Suicide Squad.” Disasters like these make you wonder if their directors had something on their actors — a scandalous bargaining chip used to undeservingly leverage their skills for nefarious moviemaking ends.

To date, Alicia Vikander‘s excursions into mainstream roles haven’t fared so well. “The Seventh Son” was a disaster, I already forgot she was in “Jason Bourne,” and no one went to see “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” But the actress is still trying to crack that nut, and she’ll give the mainstream another chance by leading “Tomb Raider,” and the first set photos (via Collider) provide a peek at Vikander in action.

An elegant potboiler that judiciously balances psychological and physical suspense, one that feels like a romantic drama from WWII only recently rediscovered. I’m “biast” (pro): love the era

For a movie about war, Allied displays an impressive quietude. The opening few minutes especially are remarkably serene… and remarkably tense at the same time. A man in World War II-era fatigues parachutes into a desert at dawn, hikes in solitude along the dunes, then along a deserted road, until dust on the horizon announces the approach of a car. Is it his doom coming toward him, or his contact? When the car stops and he gets inside, the man and the driver say nothing to each other for quite a long while. Inspired by the work of Jim Henson and featuring what appears to be all in-camera creature and visual FX, Lookouts is an impressive fantasy short from new director David Bousquet. Certainly it rivals anything we've seen from recent big budget fantasy films like Seventh Son so I hope this gets him some attention. Lookouts was filmed in the misty overgrowth of Mendocino’s redwood forests and overall looks simply stunning. Synopsis: On their final trial as village lookouts, a troop of young scouts are ambushed by the very creature they were hunting. After a violent battle the lone survivor, Pehn, escapes into the shadows of the Eyrewood, a mysterious and deadly forest that is home to all manner of wild creatures. The most horrifying of all is the...

Alongside plenty of heist-movie humor and suspense is a bleak fatalism grounded in depressing reality and resignation to the miserable necessity it demands. I’m “biast” (pro): love the cast, love the filmmakers

The phrase “come hell or high water” is almost always used in the hypothetical. As an exaggeration of the obstacles to be faced. “I will meet you for a drink after work come hell or high water,” and a printer jam or a late deadline is the level of catastrophe to be overcome.
But in Hell or High Water, the catastrophe has already happened. Hell and (metaphorical) high water have come and gone, and there’s still life to be gotten on with. It has happened in slow motion, but it’s been deliberate: a way of life,...

Filmmakers think they know what we want, but do they really? Do the executives sitting behind big, round tables in the executive offices of the major movie studios really have their finger on the pulse of the public? In fact, it’s questionable if even some of the creative talent, such as big name directors really understand what the people want. (Looking at you, Zack Snyder!) Is the film industry headed in the right direction? Well, we’re offering some free advice to Hollywood today. Cinelinx is listing 5 lessons that the people behind the cameras and desks need to know.
1…Big Blockbusters Are Becoming a Risky Proposition:
Movies are becoming more and more expensive to make. Some can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce. When you consider all the additional costs (like advertising) and the fact that studios don’t get all the money a movie makes at the theater,...

In the six years since he reunited with the Coen Brothers for a brilliant remake of the classic John Wayne western True Grit, Jeff Bridges has struggled to connect with audiences in multiplexes, releasing little-seen flicks like R.I.P.D. and Seventh Son. The world of J.R.R. Tolkien, brought to the screen by Peter Jackson, continues to cast a shadow over fantasy cinema...
One realm to rule them all. One realm to find them, one realm to bring them all and in the darkness bind them, in the land of Middle-earth where the shadows lie.
Now, far be it from me to ever describe Middle-earth as a dark shadow over anything, but for everyone else trying to make a mega-hit fantasy film, the very thought of competing with Peter Jackson’s adaptations of The Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit must seem the equivalent of toppling literal evil on Earth.
It seems that any time a big-budget fantasy flick is released, they get sneered at as generic, lacking the richness of detail or story compared to Lord Of The Rings.
But if this sounds like I’m suggesting there...

Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle just got a hell of an awesome cast member! Jeff Bridges confirmed on his Twitter account that he will be joining the cast of the highly anticipated sequel. Like the previous announcements, it came along with a teaser poster and this is the statement that it came with:
“The only Golden Circle I want vexing me is the one my glass leaves behind on the table.”
This means that he’ll be reuniting with his Big Lebowski and Seventh Son co-star Julianne Moore. Not much is known about the plot but we do know that it involves an attack on Kingsman HQ, and Eggsy and Merlin head to the United States to enlist the help from the Statesman, an American spy organization lead by a “swaggering, sharpshooting cowboy” named Jack Daniels played by Pedro Pascal and a woman named Ginger, who is being played by Halle Berry.

Oscar winner Jeff Bridges has used his Twitter account to confirm that he will join the cast of the upcoming sequel "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" at 20th Century Fox.
Bridges will reunite with his "The Big Lebowski" and "Seventh Son" co-star Julianne Moore on the Matthew Vaughn-directed film which is a follow-up to last year's smash hit spy comedy/thriller.
Taron Egerton returns as Eggsy with Mark Strong reprising the role of Merlin. They're joined by Halle Berry as the head of the CIA, Moore as the villain, Pedro Pascal as an agent named Jack Daniels, Channing Tatum, Edward Holcroft and even Sir Elton John.
The new film has Eggsy headed to the United States where he'll meet his match in a 'swaggering, sharpshooting cowboy'. The film, currently in production, is targeting a June 16th 2017 release.

Gods Of Egypt’s poor performance may well have killed off the swords-and-sandal movie. But it’s far from the only Hollywood staple in mortal danger
Gods Of Egypt, the Gerard-Butler-starring fantasy epic that recently bombed at the box office was mainly notable for inspiring a brief spurt of Twitter outrage over the casting of Scottish and Australian actors as warring Egyptian deities. That rancour, however, obscured a no-less-intriguing story: the rumblings in the movie industry that, what with Gods Of Egypt’s worldwide gross of $72m on a budget of $140m, the fantasy epic had ceased to be a viable genre. In the wake of such duds as Wrath Of The Titans (which made $305m, almost $200m less than its predecessor, Clash Of The Titans) and box office flops Seventh Son and Vin Diesel’s Last Witch Hunter, it’s unlikely that we’ll ever see a muscle-bound Hollywood actor in a loincloth again.

When a company runs into uneven box office, somebody usually gets the ax. In the case of Legendary Entertainment, which had a financing and producing role in many top-drawer DC comic-book franchises at Warner Bros. ("The Dark Knight"), CEO Thomas Tull wanted a stronger hand in being able to claim real production responsibility for the movies carrying his Legendary banner. When he couldn't come to terms with the studio, he left Warner Bros. and moved Legendary over to Universal. While Legendary is also partnering with Universal on such films as "Jurassic World," "Straight Outta Compton" and "Steve Jobs," the company's "Seventh Son," "Krampus," "Black Hat" and "Crimson Peak" were box office also-rans. Legendary was recently acquired by Chinese conglomerate Dalian Wanda Group Co.Now producer Mary Parent, who while she did not win Best Picture for "The Revenant," can boast three Oscar...
