We’re all pretty familiar with how FromSoftware has captivated gamers around the globe with their titles, which have mainly grabbed attention and praise for their combat systems and how difficult they can prove to be. Although the studio has been revered for its intricate narratives and game mechanics, it has boldly crafted some of the most unforgettable dark and post-apocalyptic environments.
After Elden Ring, FromSoftware’s next game in the Souslike genre currently remains known. Whatever the developers’ next Souls game after Elden Ring ends being, be it a new IP or a sequel, fans have been long hoping for a drastic change in the atmosphere of these games. Many gamers feel like FromSoftware should opt for something new that gives us a more lively, bright setting. However, Hidetaka Miyazaki has squashed all these talks by confirming that FromSoftware will never make such titles.

In an open-world game, one element that consistently captures the player’s attention is the NPCs. Among these, it’s the ones that react to your actions or your choices are the one that stands out the most. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released 13 years ago and it was one of the first to incorporate the reactive NPCs.
Todd Howard, director of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, wanted to make the characters in the game respond to the player’s appearance, dialogues, and actions. By setting this trend, he created a benchmark that even the likes of Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Elden Ring may have taken note of.

For years, fans have clamored for a Bloodborne PC release, hoping to experience the hauntingly beautiful world of Yharnam with enhanced graphics and smoother gameplay. However, as much as we love Bloodborne, the truth is, PC gamers already have access to plenty of titles that scratch the same gaming itch – albeit without satisfying the ‘exclusivity’ factor that Bloodborne continues to maintain.
Here are five reasons why a Bloodborne PC release isn’t as necessary as you might think!
Reason #1: Dark Souls III (2016) Facing a fiery dragon in Dark Souls III | Image via FromSoftware
Dark Souls III, another well-known masterpiece from Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware, offers a dark and challenging experience that is quite similar to Bloodborne. With its intricate level design, hard-core combat, and deep lore, Dark Souls III provides a satisfying alternative. The game’s gothic atmosphere and relentless difficulty will make any Bloodborne fan feel right at home.

Building upon the basic principles of developer FromSoftware’s previous cult hit games, Elden Ring brings players an exquisitely absorbing fantasy. Everywhere you go, there’s always something alluring, or something that can obliterate you, or both. There’s no doubt that exploring and slowly conquering this masterwork feels like an achievement.
One of Elden Ring’s most striking aspects was the involvement of Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin. While many reports in the past have suggested that Martin played a major role in crafting the universe of the Elden Ring, it seems like Hidetaka Miyazaki was the one who gave us this beautiful universe all along.

In Dark Souls 3, Hidetaka Miyazaki made a bold and unexpected decision to include an essentially useless dragon form, and this has sparked a variety of reactions from the game’s community. On the surface, transforming into a dragon seems amazing, but in Dark Souls 3, that’s not quite the case.
Despite its aesthetically pleasing design, many players consider dragon form to be one of the least practical transformations in the game, a decision that, paradoxically, might be one of Hidetaka Miyazaki’s most ingenious moves.

Incantations in Elden Ring are a returning feature from previous Souls titles, similar to Miracles, but with a few changes. With these, players can cast multiple spells to attack, defend, and enhance, depending on their situation. Incandinations are dependent on Faith stat, and occasionally Intelligence, and Arcane.
The developers have worked hard to balance out the powerful effects of Incantations. However, one YouTuber seems to have found the most overpowered Incantation in Elden Ring, which game director Hidetaka Miyazaki needs to balance before Shadow of the Erdtree‘s release.

Malenia, the Goddess of Rot, is one of the toughest bosses in the game and can carve anyone’s health in just a few strikes. Her signature Waterfowl Dance attack marks instant death for anyone unprepared. What’s worse is that she heals herself with each hit.

Sequels are common in the entertainment industry, often driven by the success of a previous title. And the video game industry is no different. These sequels can range from unnecessary to outright detrimental to the original game’s legacy.
While some manage to surprise with their quality, others fail to capture what made the original game special. Some sequels leave players wondering, “Did we really need this?” Here are five video games that made sequels nobody asked for.

When going out into the battlefield in Helldivers 2, one needs to be aware of three things: their guns, their squad, and their armor. Gamers will focus heavily on the first two, but armor doesn’t get as much of a spotlight in the title. This might be because it doesn’t stand out as it should!
This sentiment is echoed by a poster on the Helldivers subreddit who has found some inconsistencies in the game’s armor system. Focusing on one aspect that is very prevalent in Souls games, the poster asks a very pertinent question: Why is heavy armor not heavy?
Fans React to Helldivers 2 Heavy Armor’s Staggeringly Low Poise Armor in Helldivers 2 is not as effective as it should be.

In games made by Hidetaka Miyazaki, one can always find the threads of narration and storytelling woven together in a complicated manner, leaving all the players on their own accord to theorize and fill the gaps left by the studio. One such theory that has arisen recently goes over how one of the endings from Demon’s Souls, the director’s first Dark Fantasy game laid the foundation for one of his most famous pieces of work yet.

Released in 2009, Demon’s Souls became known for punishing players with an intense difficulty level, which attracted many for a change. However, how the game offers multiple endings has caused fans to speculate how one of them leads to the setting of the Dark Souls trilogy.

From the dark and immersive atmosphere to the challenging gameplay, Hidetaka Miyazaki gave gaming fans something to rely on. And the fact that they are still playing even after a decade of its launch is a testament to how beloved Dark Souls have become. Not just that, the series success led to the creation of a subgenre called Soulslike.
The Souls series brought the trilogy to its conclusion in 2016, but Soulslike games lived, many of which are slated to be released in the coming years. This includes video games like Black Myth: Wukong, Enotria: The Last Song, Another Crab’s Treasure, and more. Video games become more fun when an element of curiosity is added to them. Dark Souls does the same, as it is supposed to preserve the sense of mystery. Most of them are added as Easter eggs, but some are purely dedicated to the game those levels are in.

While it may appear like something players aren’t supposed to see, it is in fact there for them to see. Japanese designer and writer Hidetaka Miyazaki has several created award-winning video games as the director of FromSoftware. His Soulslike games, in particular, are very popular among the gaming community, but almost everyone agrees that one Soulslike game was butchered due to Miyazaki’s negligence.
Dark Souls 2
Miyazaki did an outstanding job setting up the Dark Souls series with 2011’s Dark Souls, but unfortunately, for the second game, Miyazaki wasn’t completely involved because he was more focused on 2015’s Bloodborne. As a result, Dark Souls II (2014) just couldn’t meet the expectations. While many fans believe that Dark Souls II doesn’t fit in, Miyazaki once explained how crucial the game was in setting up the future of the series.

For players who love challenges in their games, FromSoftware games have been their top picks for several years now. Especially when it comes to hitless runs, many even today consider FromSoftware games to be the pinnacle of difficult challenges in gaming.
For the uninitiated, a no-hit run in a game is when a player completes a game from start to finish without taking any hits. A loss of health or a stagger caused by an enemy or trap is considered to be a hit. Hits could include attacks from enemies that do not deal damage as well as status effects, such as poison.

To complete such no-hit runs, players often indulge in quitouts, major skips, or glitches. Completing such no-hit runs in FromSoftware games is no ordinary feat. Given that the games are generally challenging and difficult, no-hit runs in these games are no cakewalk.

For the uninitiated, a no-hit run in a game is when a player completes a game from start to finish without taking any hits. FromSoftware’s action-RPGs, particularly the Soulsborne series, have become synonymous with a unique brand of storytelling. Unlike games that spoonfeed narratives through cutscenes and exposition, FromSoftware’s stories are conveyed to players in a fragmented format.
This approach was pioneered by director Hidetaka Miyazaki, making players feel like they’re figuring the lore out for themselves and letting them interpret it in their own way. Dark Souls 3 was much the same in this regard, but apparently, Miyazaki does know the “perfect storyline” for the series.

With Another Crab’s Treasure, developer Aggro Crab has created an effective Trojan seahorse of a game. The underwater world skillfully evokes the lighthearted charm of Banjo-Kazooie, filled as it is with colorful landscapes populated by googly eyed critters who speak in mumbled gibberish. But that cartoonish sheen belies a vicious ecosystem whose methodical violence and apocalyptic ethos recall the work of Miyazaki Hidetaka. The result is an absorbing, if uneven, action RPG that largely threads the needle between cozy and thrilling.
The game’s opening introduces us to Kril, an introverted hermit crab whose shell is being repossessed off his back. The (loan) shark nabbing his home claims that Kril owes taxes to a nearby fiefdom, and our mystified hero has some questions. “First of all, what’s a ‘duchy’? Also, ‘taxes’?” Kril then finds a makeshift weapon—a fork—and sets out to reclaim his property.

2015’s Bloodborne is often cited as one of Hidetaka Miyazaki’s best works to this date. Bloodborne was a fresh approach to the subgenre, but it carried on the Soulslike element of Miyazaki’s Dark Souls series. The game was indeed challenging like FromSoftware’s other Soulslike games but the eerie theme and atmosphere, combined with its engaging combat made it quite popular among the fans.

Players often finish the primary story and the game then rots in their libraries but Miyazaki’s Bloodborne was designed in a way to convince the fans to try out New Game+. As per Miyazaki, the level of difficulty drastically changes with New Game+ so in case you have never tried it out, it’s about time you do.

FromSoftware’s Soulsborne games are considered to be the greatest action-adventure games ever made. Both works of Hidetaka Miyazaki display the creator’s uniqueness and creativity to its full potential.

Although Bloodborne came from the same hood of FromSoftware as Dark Souls, it is a whole different game altogether. It is often confused as it is similar to Dark Souls. Hidetaka Miyazaki and his work need no introduction. Having created some of the greatest games for FromSoftware, Miyazaki’s story has been nothing short of an inspiration for all. The iconic creator went from being an aimless student in college to switching careers at the age of 29 and becoming a Goat in the gaming space.

With Dark Souls and gems like Bloodborne, FromSoftware introduced a genre into games that was unique in a variety of aspects. Although the developer’s style may have initially felt unnecessarily difficult, the Soulsborne genre is something that’s becoming more common. Hidetaka Miyazaki’s art proved to be quite influential, as many other games, like Aggro Crab’s upcoming Soulslike Another Crab’s Treasure, have been inspired by FromSoftware.
Perhaps the most interesting bit about the Soulslike by Aggro Crab is that it’s not inspired by the Dark Souls series, as it shares more similarities to a FromSoftware game that led Miyazaki to change his approach to the development process.

Hidetaka Miyazaki is a very well-known figure in gaming right now. He is particularly famous for directing the insanely popular Soulslike series Dark Souls. He also directed Bloodborne, which was a PlayStation 4 exclusive horror soulslike, and Sekiro, which was more of a stealth action game than a soulslike. The best part about Hidetaka Miyazaki’s games is that they are never easy to play.
Pretty much every game that he has worked on over time has been very challenging. In fact, their recently released game, titled Elden Ring, was also pretty hard, albeit more inviting to new gamers. As he develops such a high number of hard games, one can’t help but wonder what game he loves playing the most, and the answer is pretty surprising indeed.

Elden Ring was the culmination of a five-year development cycle for FromSoftware, and a step in a completely new direction for the storied Japanese developer.
But even though it’s different to their past titles, there’s still some overlap in ideas between FromSoftware’s last game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Elden Ring. Speaking with PlayStation Blog, game director Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed about how Sekiro influenced their 2022 masterpiece.
Developmental Overlap Was The Main Reason Behind The Influences The successful posture system became the stance break mechanic.
Elden Ring‘s development started in 2017 alongside Sekiro, which released in 2019. Hidetaka Miyazaki explained that since they were working on both games at the same time, there were a few cool references that were snuck into the former:
I’d have to say that, considering Sekiro’s development overlapped with Elden Ring’s to an extent, there’s nothing that directly came through from that project.

When Hidetaka Miyazaki announces a game, fans are aware of two things for certain. First, it’s going to have some rich lore that is not provided as simple exposition. The second is that the combat system is going to be challenging but also rewarding.

For over a decade, From Software had established its image for making demanding action role-playing games set in dark and intricately designed worlds. Right from 2009’s Demon’s Souls, followed by its spiritual successor, the Dark Souls trilogy, and the gothic wonder Bloodborne. And an instrumental role in these was played by the legendary Hidetaka Miyazaki himself.

FromSoftware games have always been revered and highly looked upon when it comes to Souls-like games. And one of the most crucial and instrumental men behind this is Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creator of most FromSoftware games.
Demon’s Souls
The game Dark Souls gave birth to a whole new sub-genre of games, named after the title, ‘Souls-like.’ Additionally, the revolutionary title is often considered and known to be the spiritual successor to Demon’s Solus. However, the maker, Miyazaki, thinks otherwise.

During an interview with Future Press back in 2015, Miyazaki was asked since Bloodborne feels like a follow-up to Demon’s Souls, if was it in any way connected to the 2009 game. To this, Miyazaki replied,
“Just reflecting on your question and the history of my development…it carries the DNA. It carries the DNA of Demon’s Souls and its very specific level design.

When Bloodborne released on PlayStation 4 back in 2015, it immediately made FromSoftware fans sit up and take notice. It ditched the usual medieval fantasy setting of the previous Dark Souls games for a gothic, Victorian dystopia, with occasional Lovecraftian bosses.

FromSoftware games, including Elden Ring, boast a robust multiplayer component that enables fans to engage in both PvP and PvE. The mode is so popular that entire etiquette systems have been formed for those looking to engage in some jolly cooperation.
Established since the Souls games, every FromSoftware title, aside from Sekiro, has had a multiplayer mode. While most tend to stick to a classic face-off, others tend to take a more stealthy approach. The same is true for Elden Ring, and the game even supplies an item that helps with some devious schemes.

FromSoftware games have some very well-written stories. This is all thanks to the legendary writer and game director Hidetaka Miyazaki. He has been doing this for more than 10 years, and he has yet to make a bad game. This is evident to this very day, seeing how his latest game, Elden Ring, was such a massive success. He has also created some memorable characters over the years. From Dark Souls to their latest title, there hasn’t been any shortage of interesting characters in these games.
But one character has remained as popular in the Dark Soul series as he was years ago. And if some incredible fan theories are to be believed, this character has met an unusual fate in Dark Souls 3 appearing as a harrowing creature.

FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series has been a fan-favorite for many years now. Without a doubt, the games played a key role in popularising the Soulslike genre among a wider audience. It began with 2011’s Dark Souls, which was well-received by the fans and its success led to the creation of 2014’s Dark Souls 2. Many argue that DS2 was neglected by the series’ creator Hidetaka Miyazaki as he was more focused on 2015’s Bloodborne. With Dark Souls 3, Miyazaki returned as the director and once again gave fans one of the best Soulslike games of all time.
Dark Souls
After DS3, Miyazaki made it clear that he was done with the series, adding that it wouldn’t make sense to continue creating not just the Dark Souls series but also the Bloodborne franchise. However, Miyazaki wouldn’t oppose the idea of a sequel if someone else is interested in creating it.

FromSoftware fans all agree that Bloodborne brought in a new combat system to the Soulsborne lineup that created a new schema for future games. While Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls were more favorable fighters, taking time to block attacks before retaliating, Bloodborne wanted players to dash into the fray.
Agility and aggressiveness are essential parts of the game, requiring the player to be aware of their surroundings and exploit even the smallest openings to land an attack. This was a major shift from combat in the Souls series, and the inspiration for this move came to Miyazaki from a movie released in the 80s!

Agility and aggressiveness are essential parts of the game, requiring the player to be aware of their surroundings and exploit even the smallest openings to land an attack. This was a major shift from combat in the Souls series, and the inspiration for this move came to Miyazaki from a movie released in the 80s!

Hidetaka Miyazaki, the mastermind behind acclaimed titles like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, has had a remarkable journey in the world of game development.
Kickstarting the Soulslike genre was just one of his many accomplishments, and according to an interview from many years ago, he likely saved the Souls franchise from complete annihilation with one feature he refused to budge on. And after finding out what it was, you’ll be grateful he did the same.

This may come as a surprise, but Bloodborne‘s arrival in 2015 was a bit unexpected. Fans eagerly awaited a return to the world of Demon’s Souls, the 2009 action-rpg that launched Hidetaka Miyazaki into stardom and popularized the Soulslike genre.
Instead, they were greeted with Bloodborne, a brand-new IP dripping with gothic appeal that pretty much became an icon since the day it released exclusively on PS4. To this day, it has a fan following that defies its age, and pleas for a modern remaster rack up by the thousands. However, the game’s origin is just as interesting as its post-launch fame.

Lies of P was a much-awaited Soulslike title that launched in September last year. Developed by Round8, the action-rpg draws its inspirations from the very best of the genre, primarily Bloodborne, adapting its iconic gothic aesthetic. The protagonist essentially being Pinocchio adds to its quirkiness.
It’d be foolish to assume, though, that Lies of P is simply apes the games made by the legendary Hidetaka Miyazaki, and doesn’t do anything original. Creative director Jiwon Choi has revealed one key change that sets it apart from other Soulslike games.

Demon’s Souls. Dark Souls. Bloodborne. Elden Ring. These games made FromSoftware into a household name, but they have been making games since the mid 90s in a wide variety of genres. The King’s Field and Armored Core series were some of their other most popular series, with the later series getting a new entry last year, but one of their smaller titles has always been their most intriguing to me.
Kuon, released in Japan on April 1, 2004, was an attempt at a classic fixed-camera style survival horror game that was popular during the PS2 era, and the game has mostly been lost to time. While not entirely successful, especially when compared to modern standards, it’s definitely interesting to look back on it.

Bloodborne‘s creator and global gaming icon, Hidetaka Miyazaki, might be a human being after all. His genius has shone through his works time and again as fans were treated to magnificent titles like Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Sekiro: Shadow Die Twice, and Elden Ring.
However, in an interview, Miyazaki seemed abashed when talking about his past work, especially Bloodborne. When asked about the game and the possibility of a Bloodborne remake, he got as self-conscious as one can get when looking back on past errors.
However, he wasn’t averse to the idea of a remake as long as he was not involved with it.
Hidetaka Miyazaki Doesn’t Want To Look at His Old Works When it comes to game creation, hindsight is 20/20 for Miyazaki.
In an interview with Game Informer in 2019, Hidetaka Miyazaki opened up about the possibility of working on remakes of his older works:...
