At 29 years old, Quentin Tarantino made his directorial debut with "Reservoir Dogs." With its punchy pacing and electric performances, it was a brash, violent film that put him on the map as an audacious new storyteller. From his humble beginnings as a Video Archives store clerk to the script landing in Harvey Keitel's hands, Tarantino was able to raise $1.5 million to make the movie and debut it at the Sundance Film Festival.
Duane Byrge from The Hollywood Reporter covered the overwhelming audience response to the searing film: "[T]his plug gutter is wiping out audiences here at the Sundance Film Festival. Those who survive it emerge in a shell-shocked euphoria — so good and so blunt is the writing." Miramax won the subsequent bidding war, but although distribution was secured, the road to release was rocky. What's Daniel Day Lewis' best film? "Gangs of New York," perhaps? What about his Oscar-winning performance as the 16th President of the United States in "Lincoln?" Surely his efforts there should put Steven Spielberg's historical drama in the running for Lewis' finest work. Well, it's neither of these. Daniel Day Lewis' best film is, in fact, 1985's "A Room With a View," — at least according to Rotten Tomatoes.
The website that determined there to be only two perfect horror movies can also be consulted for its rankings of individual actors' filmographies. This has resulted in the definitely correct revelation that Sean Connery's finest film is "Darby O'Gill and the Little People." Martin Scorsese is acknowledged for his multiple collaborations with two of Tinseltown’s finest leading men, Leonardo DiCaprio & Robert De Niro. As giants in their field, they’ve individually contributed to Scorsese with masterful performances that have shaken audiences and critics alike.
Yet, having already gifted us cinematic treasures like Mean Streets and Taxi Driver, Scorsese once found himself at a harrowing crossroads. Is a masterpiece really born out of a personal crisis? Well, the answer lies in Scorsese’s own phoenix-like rise from the ashes of adversity, as he faced a dire period marred by substance abuse, depression, and the chilly reception of his bold musical New York, New York.

It took a hospital bed realization and the profound intervention of his artistic compatriot, Robert De Niro, to channel his turbulent experience into the creation of Raging Bull.

10. Bill Cutting from Gangs of New York (2002)
Authoritarian, ruthless, and cunning, Daniel Day Lewis’ Bill the Butcher stole the screen in Gangs of New York every time he appeared. His presence alone was menacing enough to make people drop on their knees and pray, and his impeccable skills with the knife only added a flair of danger to the man that already embodied it.
9. Nucky Thompson from Boardwalk Empire (2010–2014)
Nucky’s silver tongue and immaculate looks made him into the most charming type of gangster: the one everyone loves. Thanks to his persuasive skills and the ability to seamlessly blend his legal and illegal businesses, Steve Buscemi’s Nucky controlled the entirety of Atlantic City with few who could — or wanted to — oppose him.

If you took a poll of movie lovers and asked for a list of the best actors of the past 50 years, Daniel Day-Lewis would certainly be among them -- he may even occupy the number one slot. The versatile performer has been wowing audiences with his all-in, committed performance style for decades, and legends are legion about the lengths to which he'll go to immerse himself in his characters.
But only one of his films has a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, and it's somewhat surprising: It's not "Gangs of New York," "My Left Foot," or even "In the Name of the Father," but 1985's "A Room With a View," directed by James Ivory. Set in the early 1900s, the film follows a young Englishwoman named Lucy (Helena Bonham Carter) and her chaperone (Maggie Smith) on a trip to Italy, where she ignites a brief relationship with a man (Julian Sands...

It’s almost hard to imagine anyone else doing Bill Cutting in place of the legendary Daniel Day-Lewis in Gangs of New York, or Tim Robbins’ Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption but Hollywood veteran Tom Hanks came pretty close to playing several iconic characters including Cutting and Dufresne. The actor was also in negotiation to play one of Keanu Reeves’ roles.
Tom Hanks and Tyler Hoechlin in Road to Perdition
Of course, it’s not John Wick, it would have been kind of weird seeing Hanks as John Wick, as for fans, Reeves was immersed in the character and he is now hard to replace. But Hanks almost booked the slot of the 1994 hit action thriller, Speed. But the role eventually went to the John Wick star.

Michael Douglas is in terrific form as Benjamin Franklin in Apple TV’s new historical limited series “Franklin” but he isn’t the only actor to emerge with awards whispers whizzing through the air. Veteran actor Eddie Marsan features in a key supporting role as John Adams and delivers one of the finest performances of his career while also shining a new light onto a man that many actors have depicted before.
The limited series follows Franklin’s eight years in France as he tried to persuade King Louis XVI (Tom Pezier) to join the colonies’ cause and aid them in the American Revolutionary War. The scenes between Douglas and Marsan are nothing short of spectacular and Marsan nails his performance as Adams, as noted by critics.
Clint Worthington (Roger Ebert) noted: “Marsan’s energy as Adams is decidedly different from Paul Giamatti’s in Ellis’ original 2008 miniseries—“Franklin” feels...

Remaking a 2002 Hong Kong hit and setting the story in Irish-Catholic Boston, Martin Scorsese seemed to be out of his element with The Departed—if not, that is, for the fact that the film marked a return to the director’s bread-and-butter mean streets, and that his source material, Wai Keung Lau and Siu Fai Mak’s Infernal Affairs, was itself heavily influenced by his iconic gangster films. Something of a genre homecoming after recent detours into the arenas of the historical epic (Gangs of New York) and the period biopic (The Aviator), The Departed again found him trawling a gritty, brutal urban underbelly where racial epithets spit from roughnecks’ mouths, class divisions are as sharp as a switchblade, and allegiances to others and one’s self are always tenuous at best.

Leonardo DiCaprio is attached to play Frank Sinatra in a new biopic from Martin Scorsese.
Variety broke news of the project on Wednesday, while also noting that Jennifer Lawrence is in line to play Sinatra’s second wife, actress Ava Gardner. Not surprisingly, the film is reportedly drawing major interest from studios, including Sony and Apple, but must still receive approval from Sinatra’s daughter, Tina, who controls her late father’s estate.
The project would mark the seventh collaboration between DiCaprio and Scorsese, following Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and last year’s Killers of the Flower Moon.
Scorsese hopes to begin production on the Sinatra biopic immediately after he finishes a film about Jesus Christ, which is set to begin shooting later this year. Andrew Garfield and Miles Teller are among the actors being courted for the Jesus film,...

The next project from Narcos creator Chris Brancato may be a Peaky Blinders-esque period drama series about Irish gangs in New York.
Brancanto, speaking at the TV festival Series Mania in Lille, France on Wednesday, said he was developing the period crime series for MGM+.
Brancanto made the announcement in the final few minutes of his talk at Series Mania, which was focused on his new MGM+ show Hotel Cocaine, one of the highlighted series in the competition lineup at the French TV fest. He declined to give many details about his new project, except to note the show’s working title — The Westies — and that the series will follow the “fearsome Irish gangs” in New York in the late 19th century.

Since Cillian Murphy just became the first Irish-born actor to win the Best Actor Oscar, I thought it would be appropriate to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a list of the most notable Irish actors who have been honored by the Academy with either Oscar gold or a nomination.

Murphy has played non-Irish roles so often and so well that some people may not realize or remember that he is Irish. His best Irish films include Breakfast on Pluto and The Wind that Shakes the Barley. And as noted above, he is the first Irish-born actor to take home an Academy Award in the Best Actor category.

Now that the Oscar winners are known, we can determine the other winners: the studios’ and distributors’ strategic release decisions that impacted results.
Some may reflect genius or gut instinct; others are timing and preparation creating luck. In each case, distribution (or the lack thereof) played a significant role in positioning the films for success — but none of them could be considered a template.
Surprisingly, the universal non-factor appeared to be SAG strike, which constrained promotion. “Oppenheimer” completed most cast appearances in time, while “Killers of the Flower Moon” had press stockpiled from Cannes. The French “Anatomy of a Fall” was unaffected.
“The Holdovers,” along with “Priscilla,” took the biggest chances with their October releases. Both made platform debuts on the same day. Sofia Coppola’s biopic showed a faster response, but Alexander Payne’s film found awards success (as well as a near-equal box office haul and bigger home...

Killers Of The Flower Moon Ends Its Run At The North American Box Office ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Martin Scorsese is a gem of a filmmaker, and he has been delivering some remarkable films for years now. He, along with Leonardo DiCaprio, makes one of the most iconic director-actor duo. They recently came together and treated audiences with their masterclass in the form of Killers Of The Flower Moon. Unfortunately, the film didn’t find many takers at the box office. Keep reading to know more!
Reception of the film
Released on 20th October 2023, the crime drama opened to highly positive reviews from critics all over the globe. Known for her roles in Euphoria and The Handmaid’s Tale, Sydney Sweeney recently opened up during an SXSW Q&a session about her dream director. No, he is not Quentin Tarantino or Christopher Nolan; rather, she would prefer to collaborate with Martin Scorsese.
This may surprise some people considering Nolan’s standing as a visionary director, who recently won the Oscar for Oppenheimer. That being said, the two-time Emmy-nominated actress, 26, might have been drawn in by Scorsese’s storytelling and character development.
However, her admiration for Scorsese might not necessarily lead to any Academy Award wins. Despite being regarded as one of the greatest directors of all time, the Taxi Driver director has been snubbed by the Academy on several occasions.

The psychodrama of the Oscars and Martin Scorsese was seemingly pierced when “The Departed” won four Oscars in 2007, including for his one and only time for Best Director and his only film to win Best Picture.
Two years before, “The Aviator” won five, and five years later, “Hugo” won five. All signs that the drought was over.
The case for the glass being half-empty, though, remains strong after Sunday night’s Academy Awards. With the 0-10 shutout for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” all four of his last narrative films since “Hugo” have received 26 nominations and zero wins.
And he now holds the distinction of having three films with no wins and 10 nominations (“Gangs of New York” and “The Irishman” also), just below the record of 0-11 held by “The Color Purple” and “The Turning Point.”
He personally now has one win out of 16 personal nominations — including 10 for Best Director,...

The Oscars 2024 were full of surprises and had all the nominees as well as non-nominees constantly at the edge of their seats. However, throughout all the people who were in utter excitement and awe of everyone who won, Martin Scorsese was not involved.
Martin Scorsese in Hugo
If anything, the filmmaker seemed like he couldn’t care less about the program and had only graced the event out of formality. And after watching him and noticing that he was one of the only ones as uninterested in the ceremony as him, fans couldn’t help but wonder just how robbed the legendary director was!

Another Oscars season is over. The 96th Academy Awards have wrapped, and the full 2024 Oscars winners list has been revealed.
“Oppenheimer” had an air of inevitability about it unlike few Best Picture contenders in recent memory: IndieWire’s Anne Thompson predicted it would win seven Oscars tonight, including the top prize. And indeed it did, nabbing seven statuettes overall. But the triumphs for “Oppenheimer” at the Golden Globes, the Critics Choice Awards, the BAFTAs, and the Screen Actors Guild Awards suggested it was the film to beat, by any standard.
“Oppenheimer” also received the most nominations overall, with 13. Its seven wins were for: Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr., Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, Best Director for Christopher Nolan, and Best Picture — the most of any film tonight. The next-most nominations was 11 for “Poor Things,” and then 10 for “Killers of the Flower Moon.

The Oscars are one of the most prestigious events in the field of cinema and few award ceremonies hold the level of honor that the Academy Awards. The ceremony ends the coveted awards season and has been the aim for many of the greatest films of the year. However, the biggest awards show has been tainted by several events that occurred during the ceremony.
While events such as Envelope Gate and Will Smith slapping Chris Rock were moments of embarrassment for the Academy, one particular decision made by the organizers and Hollywood, in general, can be called the ceremony’s most disgusting moment. The decision in question is when Roman Polanksi, a fugitive on the run for s*xually assaulting a minor was awarded the Best Director Oscar for The Pianist.

Robert De Niro is one of the most celebrated actors in Hollywood with films like The Godfather Part II, Taxi Driver, Cape Fear, and Silver Linings Playbook. His collaborations with director Martin Scorsese are considered some of the best films ever created. They played a pivotal role in pushing him to international success. Despite being one of the greatest actors ever, he is also afraid of rejection, but it’s not the rejection from films.
Robert De Niro in Heat
The rejection from films was never a concern for Robert De Niro. The actor has worked with some of the greatest directors in memorable films. However, the Travis Bickle starrer proved to be an adorable family man when he claimed that he can feel rejected by his children. He admitted that he would feel very rejected if his children humbled him.

Best Actress has come down to the two-horse race we always thought it would do as we enter Oscars weekend. “Poor Things” star Emma Stone took home the Best Comedy Actress Golden Globe as well as the Critics Choice and BAFTA awards for Best Actress. Meanwhile, “Killers of the Flower Moon” performer Lily Gladstone landed the Best Drama Actress Golden Globe and snagged the SAG award for Best Actress. That has left us Oscarologists split. Gladstone is slightly ahead in our Oscars odds chart for Best Actress but, truthfully, it could go either way.
Or could it go the same way?
Could Stone and Gladstone produce a delightful shock and share the Best Actress Oscar in a tie? Wouldn’t that be fun? Stone and Gladstone both seem like they’d be overjoyed if that were to happen, and so would we be. Best Actress has ended in a tie before.

What Oscar records will be broken and which ones will remain intact at the 96th Academy Awards ceremony March 10. With a win, Billie Eilish, 22, and Finneas, 26, would become the youngest artists ever to win two Oscars before the age of 30. The pair won for James Bond theme “No Time to Die” in 2022, and are nominated this year for “What Was I Made For,” from “Barbie.” Only three individuals have clinched two Oscars before turning 30: Luise Rainer earned back to back Oscars by the time she was 28 for “The Great Ziegfeld” (1936) and “The Good Earth” (1937); Jodie Foster in 1989 for “The Accused” (age 26) and in 1992 for “The Silence of the Lambs” (29); and Hilary Swank in 2000 for “Boys Don’t Cry” (26) and in 2005 for “Million Dollar Baby” (29).

They say that conflict is the essence of drama, and in this handsome but impossibly somber biopic there is almost nothing but conflict. Following up last year’s surprise hit Sound of Freedom, director Alejandro Monteverde neatly sidesteps a repeat of that film’s controversy with a story that cannot remotely be interpreted as a QAnon allegory. Based on the true story of Frances Xavier Cabrini — literally the first American saint — this takes a most un-maga viewpoint on immigration, painting an unvarnished portrait of racism in a country that is supposed to embrace the tired and the poor.
Right from the start, Cabrini impresses with its set design, giving Martin Scorsese’s studio work a run for its money and taking place shortly after the latter’s atmospheric brace of 19th century movies The Age of Innocence and Gangs of New York. A title card informs us that between 1899 and...

Alejandro Monteverde, whose Sound Of Freedom was the top grossing independent film of 2023, is back in theaters this weekend with Cabrini, also from Angel Studios, in wide release. The true story of an indomitable Italian nun on a mission to aid immigrants living in misery and poverty in late 19th century New York City, stars Cristiana Dell’Anna as waif-like Francesca Cabrini. She navigates a Pope, an Archbishop, the mayor of New York and the Italian Senate among others to build a charitable empire starting with one orphanage in the immigrant slum called Five Points (last seen in Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York). Giancarlo Giannini plays Pope Leo; David Morse is Archbishop Michael Augustine Corrigan; and John Lithgow a villainous Mayor Gould — men Cabrini lectured, sparred with, cajoled and threatened to realize her life’s work. Canonized in 1946, she is the Patron Saint of Immigrants.

The 2024 Oscar nominees for Best Director are Jonathan Glazer (“The Zone of Interest”), Yorgos Lanthimos (“Poor Things”), Christopher Nolan (“Oppenheimer”), Martin Scorsese (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), and Justine Triet (“Anatomy of a Fall”). Our odds currently show that Nolan (3/1) is most likely to win, followed in order by Lanthimos (4/1), Glazer (9/2), Triet (9/2), and Scorsese (9/2).
Three of these five filmmakers have been nominated at least once before, with Scorsese standing out as the only previous victor in the group. Now on his 10th bid (only two behind category record holder William Wyler), he initially triumphed on his sixth for “The Departed” (2007), which is also the only Best Picture winner in his filmography. He earned his remaining notices for “Raging Bull” (1981), “The Last Temptation of Christ” (1989), “Goodfellas” (1991), “Gangs of New York” (2003), “The Aviator” (2005), “Hugo” (2012), “The Wolf of Wall Street” (2014), and “The Irishman” (2020).

Last year, Brendan Fraser won Best Actor for “The Whale,” which also won Best Makeup and Hairstyling for artists Adrien Morot, Judy Chin, and Annemarie Bradley. This is a combination of Oscar categories that have popped up several times over the years. But could it happen again this year? Well, theoretically, yes.
The brilliant makeup artist Kazu Hiro, also known as Kazuhiro Tsuji, turned Bradley Cooper into Leonard Bernstein in Netflix’s “Maestro.” Kazu Hiro landed himself an Oscar nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling alongside Kay Georgiou and Lori McCoy-Bell. Meanwhile, Cooper is nominated for Best Actor.
Along with “The Whale,” several other movies have done well with this pair of Oscar categories. In 2018, “Darkest Hour” won Best Actor for Gary Oldman and Hiro won Best Makeup and Hairstyling alongside David Malinowski and Lucy Sibbick. The films in the running for the 2024 Best Film Editing Oscar are “Anatomy of a Fall,” “The Holdovers,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Oppenheimer,” and “Poor Things.” Our current odds indicate that “Oppenheimer” (31/10) is the frontrunner, followed in order by “Anatomy of a Fall” (4/1), “Killers of the Flower Moon” (9/2), “Poor Things” (9/2), and “The Holdovers” (9/2).
Having previously bagged trophies for “Raging Bull” (1981), “The Aviator” (2005), and “The Departed” (2007), Thelma Schoonmaker could now become this category’s first quadruple champion by winning for “Killers of the Flower Moon.” The 84-year-old is also the first cutter to reach a total of nine nominations, with all but her first for “Woodstock” (1971) having come for films directed by Martin Scorsese. Alexander Payne movies always do well in two areas come the Oscar nominations: writing and acting. Five of Payne’s movies have been nominated for writing while five of his flicks have also snagged acting bids. However, while “Sideways” and “The Descendants” both took home Oscars for their writing (both for Best Adapted Screenplay), no Payne movie has ever won for acting. Here’s the record.
“About Schmidt” procured a Best Actor nomination in 2003 for Jack Nicholson. He was in a two-horse race for the Best Actor gong with “Gangs of New York” star Daniel Day-Lewis but it was Adrien Brody (“The Pianist”) who ended up winning by splitting the votes. Kathy Bates was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress for “About Schmidt” but she lost to Catherine Zeta-Jones (“Chicago”).
Paul Giamatti was cruelly snubbed for a Best Actor bid for “Sideways” in 2005 but two of his costars were nominated.

Ever since Daniel Day-Lewis made a rare appearance to present an award to Martin Scorsese, speculations have been spreading on the internet about his return to films with a Scorsese project. The revelation came from Day-Lewis’s My Left Foot director Jim Sheridan.

Daniel Day-Lewis will remain retired from acting, despite best efforts to lure him back. Apparently the actor is also most displeased with “streamers”.
We’ve known for a while that Daniel Day-Lewis, the actor known for roles in films like Phantom Thread, There Will Be Blood and Gangs Of New York, has retired from acting.
Just to be clear, nothing has changed on that front. In fact, we’ve simply got further confirmation that Day-Lewis is not looking to make a comeback of any sorts.
Director Jim Sheridan, speaking to ScreenDaily, said he still talks to Day-Lewis, but the actor isn’t interested in making another film.
“I’d love to do something with him again. He’s like everybody else, he opens up the streamers and there’s seven thousand choices, none of them are good. Film has been moved out of the public domain into a private domain – you have a remote,...

Cameron Diaz is looking to make her comeback to acting a bit more permanent, with Apple Original Films announcing that she’s in final negotiations to star alongside Jonah Hill and Keanu Reeves in the upcoming dark comedy “Outcome.”
Directed by Hill from a script he co-wrote with Ezra Woods, “Outcome” will star Reeves as Reef, a damaged Hollywood star who must “dive into the dark depths of his past to confront his demons and make amends after he is extorted with a mysterious video clip from his past.”
Details of Diaz’s role have not been disclosed, but the casting is quite a coup. Diaz has made quite the career based on her comedic chops, with films like “The Mask,” “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “There’s Something About Mary,” “Bad Teacher” and the “Charlie’s Angels” and “Shrek” franchises grossing more than $7 billion worldwide. Despite Martin Scorsese teasing a possible collaboration with his “Gangs of New York” star Daniel Day-Lewis, the famed Oscar-winning Method actor is still firmly retired, according to director Jim Sheridan.
Sheridan worked with Day-Lewis on “My Left Foot,” “In the Name of the Father,” and “The Boxer,” with “My Left Foot” landing Day-Lewis one of his three Best Actor Academy Awards. Day-Lewis officially announced his retirement from acting in 2017 with Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Phantom Thread” as his last film.
“He says he’s done. I keep talking to him,” Sheridan told ScreenDaily. “I’d love to do something with him again. It’d be great to see Daniel coming back and doing something because he’s so good.”
You know what’s not “so good”? Streaming content — and that medium’s takeover has (further) soured the serious actor on the entertainment business, Sheridan said.

It sounds like Daniel Day-Lewis is serious about his retirement from acting and won’t be returning, at least according to his longtime director Jim Sheridan. The Irish filmmaker directed three of Day-Lewis’ most prominent films: “My Left Foot” (1989), “In the Name of the Father” (1993) and “The Boxer” (1997). Day-Lewis won the Oscar for best actor with “My Left Foot” and was also nominated for “In the Name of the Father.”

Daniel Day-Lewis may have drank his last milkshake after all. Despite some chatter that the three-time Oscar winner may be coming out of retirement, director Jim Sheridan is quelling the rumors, saying that any meetings they have had weren’t what fans may have been hoping for.
Speaking with Deadline at the Doha Film Festival in Qatar, Sheridan – who directed Daniel Day-Lewis three times, more than any other director – said that he and the actor did in fact meet but it was for a project that would have found the actor working behind the camera. “We were talking about a project. Fresh off the success of the incomparable All Of Us Strangers, Andrew Scott will next be seen on the small screen, this time playing a slippery con artist. We got a brief teaser of Ripley back in January, but we now have a longer look at the Netflix miniseries.
Take a look at the first full trailer for Ripley below.
Based on Patricia Highsmith’s popular Tom Ripley novels, Ripley looks particularly stylish and has a pretty stacked cast.
While Scott plays the titular Tom Ripley, he is joined by Dakota Fanning (also to be seen in The Watchers later this year) and Johnny Flynn.
Of course, this isn’t the first adaptation of Highsmith’s Ripley novels. 1999’s The Talented Mr. Ripley starred a young Matt Damon as Ripley,...

Welcome to Oscar Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Oscar race — via Slack, of course. This week, we discuss the most up-in-the-air above-the-line category remaining: Best Actress.
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! The calendar has turned to March and that means but one thing: *Doctor Strange voice* we’re in the endgame now. This week, Oscar voting came to an end and the anonymous ballots jump scares commenced soon after. But as we discussed with our voices this week, most of them have seemed fairly chaste, obvious and inoffensive. In fact, in most of the major categories, it’s all over but the shouting: If “Oppenheimer,” Christopher Nolan, Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. and Da’Vine Joy Randolph don’t win their expected Oscars on March 10, something wild and unexpected happened during the ceremony the likes of which we...

Martin Scorsese was at the Berlinale this week for the first time in a decade. His presence to collect an honorary Golden Bear was a reminder of the festival’s glories of yesteryear.
In decades past, Scorsese touched down in Berlin with major works such as Raging Bull (1981), Cape Fear (1992); Gangs of New York (2003 ), Shine a Light (2008) and Shutter Island (2010). It feels a long time since the event — traditionally one of the world’s great cinema showcases — has attracted such movies. In recent years the studio splashes have dried up.
So have memorable movies from A-list arthouse filmmakers. Scorsese this week sang the praises of the event for the encouragement it had given him as an emerging filmmaker. Citing Brian de Palma’s Silver Bear win for his second film Greetings in 1969, Scorsese said the prize had marked a turning point for unknown, independent American directors such as himself, de Palma,...

Filmmaker, Martin Scorsese is famous for his tough, sometimes violent portrayals of American life. Since the 1970s, he’s directed lots of movies that have made him a big deal in the film world.
His impressive body of work includes iconic movies such as Raging Bull (1980), Goodfellas (1990), Gangs of New York (2002), The Departed (2006), Hugo (2011), The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), and more. In his recent film, Killers of the Flower Moon, Scorsese keeps up his trend of adapting interesting true stories into captivating movies.
Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, and Robert De Niro on the sets of Killers of the Flower Moon
The filmmaker is now stepping away from his usual role to act in a film with a cast that is as impressive as Oppenheimer‘s, which includes Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, and many more.

It’s not often that a doc about the transformative power of cinema will deliberately use bad clips of the movies it’s talking about, but that’s part of the point of this insightful, sprawling film, corralled by director David Hinton. Though the masterpieces made by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger at the height of their big-screen, Technicolor powers were visually impeccable, their subversive emotional power could still pack a punch through a 16-inch TV screen, even from the most scratched, butchered, and washed-out black-and-white prints.
This is, famously, how the young Martin Scorsese discovered The Archers (as the pairing styled themselves), and in this lengthy discourse he gets to position them both as an influence on his own movies and as unsung heroes in the history of world cinema. Now, there are plenty of people who will immediately say that Powell and Pressburger have actually been sung quite a bit,...

There is no denying that Martin Scorsese stands with some of the finest filmmakers that Hollywood has to offer. With films like The Wolf of Wall Street and Gangs of New York, the Oscar-winning director has been ruling over the hearts of film fanatics since time immemorial. However, despite having uncountable projects to his name, Martin Scorsese has barely touched the Horror genre with his films.
A still from Martin Scorsese’s Bring Out the Dead
Sure, he has touched the subject a few times with Shutter Island, Cape Fear, and Bringing Out the Dead, but Martin Scorsese has never made a full-blown horror movie. Now this doesn’t mean that the filmmaker is not into the genre. In fact, there is one film out there that was so full of dread that it became one of Martin Scorsese’s favorites in the genre.

Martin Scorsese was greeted by loud cheers as he alighted from his car at the Berlinale Palast on Tuesday night, and set about signing autographs for the crowd gathered on this cold Berlin night.
The Oscar-winning filmmaker is the recipient of an honorary Golden Bear for lifetime achievement at the 74th Berlinale.
“Marty!! Marty!!” the crowd chanted, as Scorsese posed for photographers before fielding press questions and greeting festival brass, protected from the sharp weather only by his dapper black suit.
Once inside the auditorium, the 81-year-old finally sat down some 25 minutes after arriving, following a long-standing ovation.
Live music from the soundtrack of Killers of the Flowers Moon was accompanied by clips playing on the screen. The fest’s exec director, Marietta Rissenbeek, and artistic director, Carlo Chatrian, offered a few words in recognition of the great director, making Scorsese laugh and seem to all but cry with his daughter Francesca by his side.
