The upcoming single-player spinoff of Dead by Daylight, titled The Casting of Frank Stone, has been generating buzz for its intriguing premise and the collaboration between Behaviour Interactive and Until Dawn and House of Ashes maker Supermassive Games. However, upon closer inspection of the devs’ latest revelations, the game’s plot bears some undeniable similarities to the 2011 Steven Spielberg-produced sci-fi thriller Super 8.
While the game promises to deliver a unique experience within the Dead by Daylight universe, the parallels between the two projects are hard to ignore!

Picture this: You and your old friends are together for your annual meetup. In your bag is your Magic the Gathering kit, complete with custom mat. It’s a game you always play as a group; it has been since you were little. Walking together, bathed in neon light, you catch a glimpse of another group – they’re playing Street Fighter at an arcade cabinet. A man clad in armor passes by, his broadsword tucked beneath his arm as he manages a hotdog between his gloved fingers. Three dinosaurs startle...

Baldur’s Gate 3 had launched with immense excitement, and all players were ready to go back to the iconic world of Dungeons & Dragons. The rich storytelling, intricate gameplay mechanics, and a vibrant cast of characters awaited the players.
However, incorporating the new story with engaging and dynamic gameplay was a difficult task, but slotting older characters who were in both the original Baldur’s Gate games was a harder challenge in itself.

Dungeons and Dragons have withstood a strong fan following over the years after its debut as a fantasy role-playing game in 1974. Even though the original trilogy couldn’t add much magic to strengthen the franchise, many anticipated that Chris Pine’s Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves could potentially launch it.

Way back in 2019, Avengers: Endgame handed over the mantle of Captain America to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson. Two years later, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier made the point canon and established the hero firmly into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which canonically was flaring up in tensions owing to the sudden re-emergence of the population that vanished and returned leading to mass displacement and worldwide chaos.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was one of the titles that proved that indie titles could compete with and sometimes even outclass Aaa titles. After a lengthy Early Access window, the game finally released and scooped multiple awards, including several Game of the Year awards.
Video game development is an iterative process, and various ideas and plans are discussed and trashed several times before the game is ready for release; Larian’s title was no exception. It has come to light that the game would have been vastly different had the studio not altered its plans.

Baldur’s Gate 3 surpassed everyone’s expectations in 2023 when it got the Game of the Year award, competing with some huge titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Revealed during the 8th anniversary livestream, the surprise Dungeons & Dragons crossover Dlc is now available for Dead by Daylight on consoles and PC. The Dlc introduces a new Killer in Vecna—The Lich, a new Survivor in the Bard, Aestri Yazar, and is set in the new map, the crumbling Forgotten Ruins.
Vecna brings with him his Book of Vile Darkness, which contains four dark spells to terrorize and decimate Survivors:
Flight of the Damned conjures 5 flying spectral entities in a cone-shaped form, passing through obstacles and damaging any Survivor it hits. Fly elevates Vecna from the ground, making him move quickly in a forced-forward motion. While flying, he can pass through one Pallet or Vault, letting him quickly cover great distances. A well-known Dungeons & Dragons spell, Mage Hand creates a ghastly, phantasmic hand that can tag nearby Pallets. If the Pallet is lowered, the hand will raise it.

A live-action Dungeons & Dragons TV series was in development for Paramount+ and had even been given an eight-episode, straight-to-series order by the streaming service, but Deadline now reports that the project is no longer moving forward.
However, the Dungeons & Dragons series isn’t entirely dead, as Hasbro Entertainment will be shopping it to other potential buyers. It’s also said the series will receive a creative update which will be tackled by a new creative team. The version which was sold to Paramount+ was overseen by Rawson Marshall Thurber (Skyscraper), who wrote the pilot script and was going to direct the first episode. Drew Crevello (WeCrashed) was brought on to serve as executive producer and showrunner last year.
The report states that Hasbro remains committed to the Dungeons & Dragons TV series, meaning that it will likely be a matter of when, not if, the project emerges elsewhere.

Exclusive: Paramount+ has opted not to proceed with its live-action series based on Hasbro’s wildly popular Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game franchise.
The move comes almost a year and a half after the Paramount streamer in January 2023 gave the project an eight-episode, straight-to-series order. At the time, it was a co-production between Hasbro-owned eOne, which had developed the series, and Paramount Pictures.
Now shepherded by Hasbro’s in-house division Hasbro Entertainment following eOne’s December 2023 sale to Lionsgate, the project will undergo a creative update before being taken out to other potential buyers, both production partners and platforms, sources said.
The changes will include a new creative team. The version, which sold to Paramount+, was from creator Rawson Marshall Thurber, who wrote the pilot script and was set to direct the first episode. He was subsequently joined by Drew Crevello, who came on board in April 2023 as executive producer and showrunner.

Game development comes with its own set of hurdles, and even acclaimed titles like Baldur’s Gate 3 can’t avoid these hardships. This has become more apparent in the modern gaming landscape, considering how much more expensive developing games has gotten and the constant fear of whether or not the title will resonate with the audience.

Hi, intrepid heroes! The season finale of indie streamer Dropout’s highly popular “Dungeons & Dragons” series “Dimension 20” drops Wednesday, bringing what creator and game master Brennan Lee Mulligan promises to be an epic conclusion to “Fantasy High: Junior Year.”
Ahead of the episode’s release on Dropout (which is also the name of the platform’s parent company that rebranded from College Humor last fall under CEO Sam Reich) Mulligan spoke with Variety about the success of the “Dimension 20” franchise, including the scheduled Jan. 24, 2025, live show’s almost-immediate sellout of Madison Square Garden last month, the fact the streaming series is not yet eligible to be submitted for an Emmy, and the next season of “Dimension 20’s” popular “Dungeons and Drag Queens” series.

There are a lot of streamers out there, but none quite like Dropout. “I’m a determined hipster,” jokes Dropout owner and CEO Sam Reich. “I can’t do anything that the rest of the industry is doing — I’m just too determined to be unique.”
Unique is not difficult to find on Dropout, which was created in 2018 as a subscription service for CollegeHumor content before CHMedia rebranded to Dropout in 2023. Take Game Changer, hosted by Reich, where the premise changes every episode and the contestants must learn the rules as they play. Okay, the big Summer blockbusters are coming in “hot”, but there’s no reason for the offbeat “indies” to sit on the sidelines till the Fall. At least that must be the intent of the fine folks at A24, who are still basking in the box office of their biggest hit, Civil War. Ah, but this one is a true “test” for the studio’s fervent fans. It’s a truly “out there” ode to several small screen touchstones for ” 90’s kids”. In fact, you could probably have an interesting game of “checking off” winks and nods to some “cult faves”. Stranger Things is one of the most iconic pieces of sci-fi horror of this generation. The Netflix series quickly amassed a mass following after the first season, and the numbers kept climbing with every subsequent season. The end of the series in 2022 was a much-awaited event, and it spawned many collaborations with other pop culture franchises.
One of these was Dead by Daylight, the asymmetrical online multiplayer that allows players to become their favorite supernatural villains. Given the theme of the game, Stranger Things fits right into the mix, and we now have another addition from the series coming to the game.

Save for a couple of unfortunate attempts, Prime Video has really been on a streak of great adaptations in the 2020s so far. Apart from the more mainstream examples of that, the streamer released an animated TV show based on an iconic tabletop game franchise which, in many fans’ eyes, is the best adaptation of said game’s universe to date.
Misfit Adventurers to Return Later in 2024
Created by Critical Role, The Legend of Vox Machina is an epic animated series based on Dungeons & Dragons. It’s often dubbed as the best D&d adaptation out there even despite Honor Among Thieves’ existence. Like the latter, Vox Machina follows a group of misfit adventurers who are dragged into the whole “saving the world” business right from their favorite tavern.
First in The Washington Post article and then on Critical Role CEO Travis Willingham’s X account, the confirmations of Season 3 suddenly appeared.

Before the backdrop of a magmatic cavern stand three adventurers: a warrior, a mage, and a trickster who, with a roll of the dice, are preparing to defeat a tentacled chthonic beast. Across the stage, the Dungeon Master smirks as he cues up the visuals that will soon appear on the massive LED screen behind him. The roll is a success, leading to the question every Dungeons & Dragons player longs to hear:

Dragons play a prominent role in many fantasy stories from The Hobbit to A Song of Ice and Fire to Dungeons & Dragons. They’re not as central to the plot of The Witcher, but they do help the main characters come to terms with their destiny in both the books by author Andrzej Sapkowski and the Netflix adaptation. Dragons are complicated creatures, so we’ll break down everything that’s been revealed about them.
Be warned: Spoilers for The Witcher are ahead.
What are the different types of dragons?
Gold dragons are so rare that most consider them a myth. Gold dragons, like witchers, are mutants and cannot reproduce naturally. However, they are shapeshifters, which allows them to walk freely among humans.
Green dragons are the most common, followed by red, black and white. Those names are somewhat misleading. Green dragons are actually greyish, red dragons are brick-red and...

When Jane Schoenbrun was in high school, they spent hours devouring Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Schoenbrun watched Sarah Michelle Gellar play Buffy, who over the course of seven seasons, figures out who she really is — a powerful woman chosen to fight evil forces. And Schoenbrun imagined how they might fit into the show. They saw themselves in everyone, from the wacky pal Xander to the broody vampire Angel to Willow and Tara, a pair of witches in love — gender be damned.

Plot: A spacey pool cleaner (Chris Pine) discovers a plot to steal water from Los Angeles during a drought.
Review: (Note – Poolman Was Reviewed At TIFF 2023) In the fourteen years I’ve been covering TIFF, I’ve seen only a handful of movies that I’d say were shockingly bad. The Mickey Rourke/ Megan Fox/ Bill Murray dud Passion Play comes to mind. Poolman ranks with the worst movies I’ve ever reviewed at JoBlo. It’s a stunningly unfunny comic noir vanity project for star Chris Pine, who also directed and co-wrote the film. That it was made at all is a testament to the power of celebrity, as it has already become notorious at the festival for the amount of walkouts taking place at the screenings.
So why is Poolman so awful? It comes down to the screenplay and Pine’s grating lead performance as a kind of...

The Fallout game series was one of the pioneers of GenX and Millennial storytelling.
When creators Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky created a post-apocalyptic vision of human civilization gone awry (but never one to lose its sense of humor), the open world narrative eschewed labels of Good and Evil.
The Fallout universe was made of multiple factions, each one selfish, every character a survivalist in their own way.
These political and social plots explored the diversity of human thinking, teaching us concepts of anarchy that were foreign to even 1990s American cinema.
Now that the Fallout series on Prime based on the Bethesda game has debuted, it has the nearly impossible task of trying to humanize a game that was all but designed to escape humanity.
The show is a big hit and most likely the best video game to TV show adaptation we will ever see, thanks to the clever mind of Jonathan Nolan.

Tiffany Haddish has addressed a viral moment from her stand-up performance at this weekend’s Netflix Is a Joke Festival, where she called out the protests happening on college campuses against the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
When speaking to TMZ in a video on Monday, Haddish acknowledged the response to her comments and said, “I think if they are going to protest for one place they should protest for all the places that are having genocide happening. How many Black people got to die before we can get a protest? … If you want to protest? Protest. But if you really want to be effective and make change, go up to the legislation office, go up to your Senator, call your council. Go to Congress. [Go to the people] who make change … it would be way more effective.”

Role-playing game fans had a field day with last year’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, a comedy caper film adapted from Wizards of the Coast’s world-famous tabletop board game.
The movie really understood what the game was about and carried over the whole D&d experience to the screen, from strange-sounding location names and authentic character depictions to, well, dungeons and dragons.
The film is styled as an emulation of a Dungeons & Dragons game session and takes place in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting from the original’s multiverse.
It is ostensibly a picaresque movie, with the main characters trying to pull a heist on a sleazy lord in the film’s fantasy universe, and there are some quality laughs for good comedic measure, but the heart of the film’s storytelling is in following the source closely.
That said, the film is not quite consistent when getting into the specifics.

Tiffany Haddish opened up about her policy on dating celebrities. In the process, she threw some serious shade at Henry Cavill.
The 44-year-old actress revealed that she’s on the dating app Bumble. However, you won’t see her on Raya, the dating app that caters to celebrities. That’s because she’s no longer interested in dating fellow stars.

Sharing the sentiments of the majority of gamers, Todd Howard praised a game and developer that took the world by storm last year, winning numerous accolades in the process. Not only did the title manage to win the prestigious Game of the Year award at The Game Awards, but it also showcased how much dedication was put into it by the studio. Led by Swen Vincke, the team brought Dungeons and Dragons to the mainstream in a masterful way.

The film has already been through a number of plausible directors, but none seem to fit the requirements of either Sony or Marvel.
