Julianna Margulies will not be returning to Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show” for Season 4.
Sources tell Variety that the decision was made before the controversy stirred by a podcast that featured Margulies last year, and that she was offered a one-episode appearance in Season 4 that she turned down. The sources also say she has been asked about her interest in returning for a potential fifth season.
Margulies joined “The Morning Show” in Season 2 as journalist Laura Peterson, who becomes Bradley Jackson’s (Reese Witherspoon) love interest; the two break up early in Season 3, though Laura’s arc continues through the remaining episodes.
In November, while discussing the war in Gaza, Margulies made derogatory comments about Black and LGBTQ people, including that lesbian critics of Israel “offended [her] as a lesbian” since she played one on “The Morning Show.” She subsequently apologized for her remarks.

The list of movies is only guaranteed to be available until the end of June, but until then Apple TV+ customers can watch some true classics.
Apple TV+ is continuing to step out of its wheelhouse and try something new in 2024. At the start of March, the streamer imported a wide selection of movies from various Hollywood studios, marking the first time in its history that Apple TV+ had added on a substantial number of non-original titles. Those films were only available for a limited time, some as short as a few weeks, but it proved popular enough for the platform to add more in April. Now, as first reported by 9to5 Mac, Apple TV+ is rolling out another wave of licensed films as it tries to determine which ones its audience are responding to the most.

Dabney Coleman, the character actor who delighted audiences in films like 9 to 5, Dragnet, The Muppets Take Manhattan, Tootsie, WarGames, Cloak & Dagger, You’ve Got Mail, and the TV shows The Guardian and Boardwalk Empire, has died at 92. Tom Hanks is known for his good-guy characters in his films. Be it romantic comedies such as You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle, or dramas such as Forrest Gump and Philadelphia, the actor always plays roles that represent the morally right side of humanity. With his penchant for such sweet roles, he has been nicknamed the Dad of Hollywood.
However, Hanks reportedly does not have the need to stick to such roles. He recently played Elvis Presley’s antagonistic manager Col. Tom Parker in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, which was different from his usual good-guy roles. He has also mentioned that he fought against decisions made by directors to portray him as a good guy, especially in a pivotal scene in his Oscar-winning film Forrest Gump.

When searching for powerful and relatable representations of women in film, most people probably don’t turn to the romantic comedy genre first. The leading ladies of romantic comedies typically have a perfect job as a magazine reporter in a stylish big city apartment, where they wake up every morning fresh-faced with a gorgeous hairstyle. Unfortunately, life just doesn’t work that way for most women. But that doesn’t mean romantic comedies are unworthy of love from the female film community. They may not be the most prestigious pieces, but hold deep value for women who want to feel uplifted and hopeful when they’re consuming media. This article contains spoilers for the Curb Your Enthusiasm series finale.
As many fans predicted, the Curb Your Enthusiasm series finale concluded just like the much-maligned Seinfeld finale, with Larry David sent to jail for (petty) crimes against humanity. Granted, it wasn’t exactly like David-penned Seinfeld finale as, on Curb, Jerry Seinfeld’s chance encounter with a Joe Pesci lookalike leads to a jury nullification and mistrial, setting our cranky hero free once again.
Before that last minute Deus Ex Jerry, however, Curb Your Enthusiasm gets to indulge in the best part of the Seinfeld ending of yore by having many, many guest stars and other faces from the show’s past make appearances. From the prosecutor to the judge to all the witnesses that attest to Larry’s poor character, the Curb finale has many guest star roles to fill. Here’s how it fills them.

A car crash interview with a delusional prince, a new series adaptation featuring Patricia Highsmith’s most infamous creation, the second part of Zack Snyder’s pricey space opera and a paranormal detective show set within Neil Gaiman’s celebrated Sandman universe are among the big titles hitting Netflix in April.
Debuting April 4 is Ripley, Netflix’s glossy new take on Highsmith’s 1955 crime novel The Talented Mr. Ripley. The eight-episode series also stars Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf, Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood, and acting newcomer Eliot Sumner (son of Sting and Trudie Styler) as Freddie Miles. Written and directed by Oscar winner Steven Zaillian, Ripley was originally set for release on Showtime before it found a new home on Netflix.

Emily Henry fans had a field day last week when the author shared a St. Patrick’s day selfie of “The Bear” star Ayo Edebiri and “Normal People’s” Paul Mescal.
While Edebiri posted the original image to her Instagram, it was reposts from Henry and screenwriter Yulin Kuang that made fans start to assume that the actors may have been cast in one of the films being adapted from Henry’s romance books: “People We Meet on Vacation,” for which Kuang is writing the screenplay; “Beach Read,” with Kuang writing and directing; or “Book Lovers,” being developed by the company that produced Mescal’s “Aftersun.”
The posts came just months after Mescal said in an interview that he hoped to star in a rom-com with Edebiri sometime in the next five years.

Julianna Margulies and Peter Gallagher will star in a new Delia Ephron play on Broadway this fall.
The new play, called Left on Tenth and based on Ephron’s memoir, will be directed by Susan Stroman, director and choreographer of The Producers. Daryl Roth will produce. A theater and dates for the Broadway engagement have not yet been announced.
The play follows Delia, who co-wrote You’ve Got Mail and the play Love, Loss and What I Wore with her sister, Nora Ephron, as she reconnects with a man from her past and “falls into her own romantic comedy,” as she battles cancer.
Marguiles, a star of The Morning Show and The Good Wife, has previously appeared on Broadway in the 2006 play Festen. Gallagher has ten Broadway credits, most recently starring in the 2015 revival of On the Twentieth Century, and is also known for his on-screen work, including on The O.C. and Grace and Frankie.

Exclusive: The Love List has released its inaugural list highlighting the best 14 unproduced romance-centered screenplays and pilots of the year just in time for Valentine’s Day.
The list was read and curated by a group of anonymous readers, in addition to writer Lindsay Grossman and Olive Bridge TV exec Madison Jones, who launched the Love List last month.
“We were blown away by the response we got, especially in the Love List’s first year,” Jones told Deadline. “We were really encouraged by the quality of submissions sent our way. And we’re excited we’re able to highlight a lot of up-and-coming writers too.”
Grossman added, “Our hope is that these projects will be read by the industry at large and that they will ultimately be sold and produced. Coming out of a pandemic, and then a double-strike, we know there’s a need for stories that inspire and touch our hearts,...

Many romantic comedies utilize deception as a key plot point. However, for every film that incorporates an inciting fib with smarts and heart (from “While You Were Sleeping” to “You’ve Got Mail”), there are others that lack a similar savvy finesse (like “How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days” and “The Wedding Date”). “Players” competes in the latter league. Acting as a dumbed-down, gender-swapped kissing cousin to “Hitch,” it centers on a gal and her pals who know all the right moves to land hookups. Director Trish Sie’s middling and at times mawkish film not only makes us hate the game, but also its players.

Billy Crystal is reflecting on When Harry Met Sally more than 30 years after it was released.
During an appearance on CBS Mornings, the Emmy winner sat down with morning show host Gayle King at Katz’s Deli, one of the iconic locations from the 1989 film. It was the first time the actor had visited the New York City deli since they filmed there.
“It’s an amazing phenomenon that this has touched people, and this little piece of history here in New York City,” Crystal said before sharing where the film sits with him all these years later.
“It’s actually more important as time goes by because people fall in love every day,” he continued. “People fall out of love every day. People find each other, they lose each other every day. And new generations keep finding When Harry Met Sally. We’re forever young in that movie, and we represent them.

With its uniquely ’90s title and concept (thanks to America Online), You’ve Got Mail has now reached the 25-year anniversary mark. It marked the third collaboration between Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, following the acclaimed Sleepless in Seattle, which itself followed the less-acclaimed Joe Versus the Volcano. But, by the time Hanks and Ryan agreed to star in You’ve Got Mail, the chemistry they’d shared in the previous two films had earned them comparisons to some of the great couples from Hollywood’s Golden Age, including the gold standard of Spencer Tracy and Audrey Hepburn. While Hanks might not have thought that was the proper comparison, he couldn’t deny that he and Ryan shared something special on the screen. Julia Roberts Reveals She Passed on ‘You’ve Got Mail’ But Has No Regrets: “It’s All Kind of Destiny”
Julia Roberts has starred in her fair share of rom-coms throughout her acting career, but she revealed there’s a beloved film that she passed on.
During an appearance on Thursday’s episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, the Leave the World Behind star was asked by a fan if there were any roles she regrets passing on.
“Well, none that I have regrets about because I feel it’s all kind of destiny,” Roberts responded. “But what have I passed on that went on to be great and wonderful, and I thought it maybe wouldn’t have been as great and wonderful with me? You’ve Got Mail.”
Meg Ryan went on to star opposite Tom Hanks in the 1998 flick. But the Oscar-winning actress explained that not getting roles was part of the job, adding that Ryan “was supposed to be in Steel Magnolias, and she was...

Julia Roberts is an icon of the romantic-comedy genre, but there’s one famous rom-com the Oscar-winner happened to turn down: Nora Ephron’s 1998 classic “You’ve Got Mail.” Roberts revealed the scoop during a recent appearance on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live.”
Ephron’s film memorably paired Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in the story of business rivals unaware they are falling in love with each other online. “You’ve Got Mail” marked the third Hanks-Ryan romantic comedy after “Joe Versus the Volcano” (1990) and “Sleepless in Seattle” (1993), the latter title also being directed by Ephron. Had Roberts taken the role, it would’ve extended her 1990s rom-com streak that already included hits like “Pretty Woman” (1990), “Notting Hill” (1999) and “My Best Friend’s Wedding” (1997).
Asked by a fan to name some roles she has turned down in career, Roberts stressed that she does not regret any of her choices. She said any...

With her quirky personality and perky smile, Meg Ryan reigned as queen of romantic comedies for over two decades after stumbling onto an acting career during her college years. Over the past 30 years, the blond-haired, blue-eyed actress has carved out a diverse and successful career, making her one of the most popular actresses of her time.
Ryan was born November 19, 1961, in Fairfield, Connecticut. After graduating high school, she majored in journalism at New York University, and began acting to earn extra money, adopting the name Meg Ryan (taken from her grandmother’s maiden name). At the end of Meg Ryan’s beguiling and grown-up new romantic comedy What Happens Later, a simple dedication card shows on screen that says “For Nora.” And for star, director and co-writer Ryan, that says it all. After an eight-year absence from the screen, Ryan has returned, both in front of and behind the camera, to a genre that made her a huge star thanks also in large part to the late great Nora Ephron, whose trio of collaborations with Ryan — When Harry Met Sally (directed by Rob Reiner), Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail — truly defined what a joyful experience a romantic comedy could be when in the right hands.

Meg Ryan and David Duchovny swung by “The Kelly Clarkson Show” on Friday to talk all things rom-coms — including their new one together, “What Happens Later.”
Kelly Clarkson was shocked to find herself needing to remind Duchovny of a movie he starred in over 20 years ago, because it happened to be one of her favorites of the genre: “What!”
“So I have to say, you’re both in rom-coms that are so massively popular that people love and adore,” Clarkson began before getting cut off by the actor.
“But I’m not, she is,” Duchovny said, pointing to Ryan.
“You are!” Ryan responded, assuringly.
“‘Return to Me’ is like, one of my favorite… what?” Clarkson said in visible disbelief.
“Ok!” Duchovny said, conceding that he had, in fact, starred in a romantic comedy.

It makes sense that Meg Ryan would want to direct a romantic comedy like “What Happens Later” — her performances in “When Harry Met Sally,” “You’ve Got Mail” and others just about define the genre. So she knows a thing or two about capturing that spark between two fledgling lovers.
Speaking with TheWrap ahead of the movie’s Friday release thanks to its SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement, the rom-com icon said that the very best of the genre should center on characters that keep an audience “yearning.”
“You just want to root for them,” she said. “I want that feeling, to root for these two people, to know better than they do, as the audience, that they’re perfect together.”

For more than four decades, Meg Ryan has been a household name, thanks to her roles in iconic films like "When Harry Met Sally," "You've Got Mail," "Sleepless in Seattle," and so many more. Throughout most of that time, she's balanced her career with being a mother. Ryan is mom to son Jack Quaid, whom she shares with ex-husband Dennis Quaid, and daughter Daisy True, whom she adopted in 2006.
Over the years, Ryan has been open about the positive impact her children have had on her life and how they continue to help her become the person she's always wanted to be. In a 2008 interview with InStyle (via Yahoo!), Ryan spoke about how her work as a mother is the most important thing in her life. "But most of all, what I'm ambitious for in the 12 hours a day that I'm awake is my kids' happiness," she said. "I just am.

Meg Ryan is “enchanting.” It’s hard to think of a better word to describe her than the one Nora Ephron used in the “You’ve Got Mail” script — a word repeated four times in the first 30 minutes of the 1998 film.
My ears perk up when Ryan uses it now, nearly 25 years later. We’re sitting across from each other in a suite at the Four Seasons hotel in Beverly Hills, meeting to speak about her new film — her first in eight years. She’s the co-writer, director, executive producer and co-star, alongside David Duchovny, of “What Happens Later,” an enchanting romantic comedy about ex-lovers who find themselves stranded by a snowstorm.
There’s no denying that Ryan, 61, is a movie star. Only, she doesn’t seem to know it: She pulls her overcoat tight around her body to cover up any ostentatiously fancy garments she may have underneath. Throughout our conversation,...

Bleecker Street is releasing the film nationwide, which stars David Duchovny and Ryan as a former couple who get snowed in at a regional airport overnight. The synopsis of the film reads: “Indefinitely delayed, Willa (Ryan), a magical thinker, and Bill (Duchovny), a catastrophic one, find themselves just as attracted to and annoyed by one another as they did decades earlier. But as they unpack the riddle of their mutual past and compare their lives to the dreams they once shared, they begin to wonder if their reunion is mere coincidence, or something more enchanted.”
The film is seen as a nod to Ryan’s longtime collaborator Nora Ephron, who directed the star in Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail, among other titles.

Meg Ryan was scheduled to return to her big-screen romantic comedy stomping ground on October 13, however, Taylor Swift spoiled it. No prob, the Ryan-directed and -starring holiday feature What Happens Later from Bleecker Street will now go on November 3, the last weekend of AMC’s Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert movie. Hopefully by that time, the Swifties will be interested in other movies.
What Happens Later reps the third movie to shift out of the October 13 frame due to the Swift concert after The Exorcist: Believer (now October 6) and Lionsgate/Kingdom Story’s Ordinary Angels which is now Tbd.
Ryan and David Duchovny play Willa and Bill, ex-lovers who’ll see each other for the first time in years when they find themselves snowed in, in-transit, at an airport overnight.
Bleecker Street is calling Ryan’s return to rom-coms, the #Megaissance. The movie reps her second feature as director after 2015’s Ithaca.

Meg Ryan joined Interview Magazine for a discussion with comedy legend Carol Burnett, and she admitted that her kids are often embarrassed by one of her most iconic movie scenes: the fake orgasm at Katz’s Deli in “When Harry Met Sally.” In the 1989 romantic comedy, Ryan’s Sally proves to Billy Crystal’s Harry that women can convincingly trick men into thinking they’ve orgasmed by demonstrating as much at the deli table, prompting a fellow customer to say, “I’ll have what she’s having.”
“My son just called me this morning and he’s in New York staying at a hotel that’s right across the street from Katz’s Deli,” Ryan told Burnett. “My daughter was here and everybody was on speaker, and they were like, ‘Mom, this is a very unique embarrassment.’ He said, ‘You know you can go into that deli and there’s an...

Meg Ryan is returning to (and revamping) the rom-com genre.
The iconic star of “When Harry Met Sally” and “You’ve Got Mail” co-writes, directs, and stars in “What Happens Later,” based on Steven Dietz’s play “Shooting Star.” Dietz and playwright Kirk Lynn penned the script along with Ryan.
The official synopsis reads: Two ex-lovers, Bill (David Duchovny) and Willa (Ryan) get snowed in at a regional airport overnight. Indefinitely delayed, Willa, a magical thinker, and Bill, a catastrophic one, find themselves just as attracted to and annoyed by one another as they did decades earlier. But as they unpack the riddle of their mutual past and compare their lives to the dreams they once shared, they begin to wonder if their reunion is mere coincidence, or something more enchanted.
Ryan reflected on the inspirations for “What Happens Later” during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “It has a relationship to movies from the ’40s,...
