The decade of the 1990s can be considered the essential era of movie history, as it paved the way for all modern cinematography. We all know Tarantino and Lynch’s masterpieces, however, there are lots of films which gained unfairly less attention.
Here are 7 movies of that decade, picked by Reddit, claimed to be must-watches for all.
1. Go (1999)
Directed by the Road House filmmaker Doug Liman, this comedy thriller was considered to be even a “junior” Pulp Fiction. It tells four captivating interlinked stories over the course of one night in LA, narrated non-linearly and from several different viewpoints.
2. Sleepers (1996)
Next comes the star-studded crime drama, following a group of men, who are given a chance to perform revenge on a guard brutalizing them at a detention center. It stars such movie giants as Brad Pitt, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman and Kevin Bacon.
3. Dark City (1998)

German director Tom Tykwer has been named Managing Director of Babylon Berlin producer X Filme Creative Pool as part of a restructure that sees company co-founder Stefan Arndt step down.
The pair co-founded the German production powerhouse 30 years ago, but Tykwer will now succeed Arndt in the MD role, and joins Uwe Schott on the management team in Berlin. Arndt is exiting “at his own request” but will remain “associated” with the producer and stays on its board.
X Filme noted the restructure was “intended to sharpen the focus on the development and implementation of creative, bold and unusual material for film and television.”
“I would like to withdraw from the day-to-day business so that I can concentrate more on producing again,” said Arndt. “Some exciting projects are already in the pipeline and I’m looking forward to realising them as a freelance producer with the X Filme team.”

After winning hearts through manga and anime, One Piece once again had fans’ complete attention in its hold with its most recent live-action adaptation. Not only were the action, storyline, and sets adapted truly immaculately from the source material, but even the actors cast for the respective characters fit so perfectly that fans couldn’t help but commend the series’ creators.
Netflix’s One Piece live-action series.
That being said, there are still quite a few prominent characters from the saga who are yet to be adapted into live-action, like Whitebeard and a few others. And since they would be ostensibly making their live-action debut soon, we have compiled a list of all the Hollywood actors who could play 5 of the most major characters remaining to be cast. What is it with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom? Is it Wednesday? Is it Friday? The DC sequel will now open on Friday Dec. 22 this year instead of Dec. 20. Know that Warners knows what they’re doing here: They turned Aquaman back in 2018 into the highest grossing DC movie of all-time at $1.15 billion. That movie launched on Saturday and Wednesday with previews, and after an official opening on a Friday (Dec. 21) cleared over $105M at the domestic B.O. by Christmas Day –which fell on a Tuesday that year. What they do here with the immediate shift is they capture more gross closer to the Christmas Day Monday when moviegoing shifts into high gear. It’s a four-day holiday weekend. Aquaman ended its stateside run at $335M.

Legendary film director Barry Levinson has given us such movies as Diner, Rain Man and Sleepers, while legendary screenwriter David Mamet penned such classics as The Untouchables, Glengarry Glen Ross and Ronin. The two are reportedly set to team up for a new film about the JFK assassination, which will star another cinema legend, Al Pacino. The film, Assassination, was first reported out of Cannes and is set to feature a cast including Viggo Mortensen, John Travolta, Shia Labeouf, Rebecca Pidgeon and Courtney Love.
Back when the film was revealed at Cannes, Mamet was set to direct his screenplay, which he co-wrote with Nicholas Celozzi. Now, Deadline is reporting that Barry Levinson is stepping in as the director for the film. According to Deadline, the plot of Assassination “tells the story of how infamous Chicago mobster Sam Giancana arranged the assassination of President John F. Kennedy as payback for trying...

Netflix is on the cusp of taking down a wide selection of movies and TV series.
The streaming service removes numerous titles each month, but without fanfare; unless you happen to select the thing that’s about to leave, you will have no idea there’s a limited amount of time left to watch.
Fortunately, we’ve compiled a list of every movie and TV show being removed from Netflix in April 2023.
We’ve aggregated all the impending removals from Netflix in the UK and US, which we’ve signalled below. If there isn’t a territory listed next to the title, then it will be leaving both.

The subject of pedophilia is one of the hardest topics to tackle in movies. One film that shook me to the core when I first saw it was Sidney Lumet's "The Offence," a bleak drama starring Sean Connery as a detective who beats a suspected child molester to death during an interrogation. It is eventually revealed that the frazzled copper harbors his own deviant fantasies. I was totally shocked, but, in retrospect, I realized that I was more troubled by the idea that 007 could play such a character rather than the actual conclusion of the film itself.

Kevin Bacon has finally entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though it is in an incredibly surprising way. He will be playing himself in the forthcoming "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special" set to premiere on Disney+ on November 25, 2022. Thanks to mergers and multiverses, Bacon technically already is in the MCU, as he played Sebastian Shaw in "X-Men: First Class," but this is his official introduction to the current slate.
Because Bacon will be playing himself, it immediately brings to mind the incredibly fun game "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon." The man has appeared in so many films for over 40 years now, in both leading and supporting parts, that it feels like he has worked with every actor out there. Surprisingly, this holiday special will be the first time he has worked with every actor that makes up the Guardians team. That means playing Six Degrees with this cast is pretty fun.

In 2017, Kevin Bacon was one of an estimated 40,000 people defrauded by Bernie Madoff in what was the largest Ponzi scheme in history. Now, he is reflecting on the crime with a positive vibe.
On the October 10th episode of the SmartLess podcast–hosted by Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Tracey Hayes–Kevin Bacon opened up about being swindled in Bernie Madoff’s infamous Ponzi scheme, which was estimated to be worth around 65 million, a feat not recognized by Guinness. What is, however, is the “most connected actor living”–and it’s not even Kevin Bacon, it’s Harvey Keitel!
Considering Kevin Bacon and his wife Kyra Sedgwick lost millions of dollars in the scheme, the Footloose actor has a remarkably hopeful outlook on the situation. “Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger…We just rolled up our sleeves.”

The project reunites the duo following their collaborations on the Emmy-nominated HBO TV movie The Wizard of Lies, which had De Niro playing Bernie Madoff, and Magnolia Pictures’ 2008 dramedy, What Just Happened, as well as the director’s earlier films Wag the Dog and Sleepers.
Wise Guys is a period piece tells the story of Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, a pair of Italian Americans running two separate crime families during the mid-20th century. Genovese tried and failed to assassinate Costello in 1957, though the latter wound up taking his leave from the mob after being injured during the attempt on his life. We hear that De Niro will be taking on both key roles in the film eyed for release in theaters.

With its list of new releases for July 2022, HBO Max is stepping up its TV game. Not that any entity associated with “It’s Not TV, It’s HBO” would ever not bring the televised goods, but the small screen is of particular consequence this month.
The middle of July is jam-packed with TV goodies like docuseries The Anarchists (July 10), rescued animated project Tuca & Bertie season 3 (July 11), and the latest Nathan Fielder creation The Rehearsal (July 15). The real heavy hitter arrives later on though. Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin premieres on July 28 and will introduce the next generation of the Pll franchise. It doesn’t have a release date yet but July will also host season 3 of the delightful Harley Quinn at some point.
HBO Max’s movie offerings aren’t as deep this month. The Bob’s Burgers Movie (July 12) and We Met In Virtual Reality (July 27) are really the only originals of note.

With its list of new releases for June 2022, HBO Max is joining in what should be a TV summer to remember.
Not content to let Netflix’s Stranger Things or Prime Video’s The Boys to dominate the summer TV landscape, HBO is coming through with a new season of one of its big hits. Westworld season 4 is set to premiere June 26 on both HBO and HBO Max. What will this season of the increasingly confusing sci-fi drama be about? Per HBO’s synopsis it will be “A dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth.” So you know, only that.
Irma Vep is the only other Max Original of note this month. Based on a 1996 cult classic of the same name, this limited series stars Alicia Vikander as a disillusioned movie star looking to remake the early 20th century French silent film serial Les Vampires.

Russian director Yury Bykov continues a prolific streak with sixth feature The Owner, a Russian-Swiss-uk co-pro with Ilya Stewart, Pavel Buria and Murad Osmann of Moscow’s Hype Film on board. The new project is a welcome continuation, especially considering Bykov had announced his retirement from cinema after 2018’s The Factory due to critiques and misinterpretation of his intentions directing the television series “Sleepers” in 2017, which many saw as a defense of Russia’s tyrannical regime and a betrayal from Bykov, whose films are social commentaries about contemporary Russian life. Kevin Bacon has had a long and illustrious career. While many know him from such popular films like Footloose, Tremors, Apollo 13 or Mystic River, he actually got his start in the industry in a pair of teen movies.
It was sort of a rite of passage for every young actor in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s to begin their career in either a raunchy teen comedy or a horror film. For Bacon, he got both. First there was National Lampoon’s Animal House and then Friday the 13th. In the slasher movie, he played Jack, a young heartthrob whose untimely demise comes at the hands of Jason Voorhees’ mother.
For such a thankless role, you’d think fans wouldn’t remember it considering Bacon’s long acting resume. A resume that’s so long, a game was even created connecting his career to everyone else’s. But according to the man himself,...

Hulu is moving ahead with Dopesick, an 8-episode limited series focused on America’s opioid crisis, brandishing promising marquee names in headliner Michael Keaton, Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson, Emmy-winning writer/showrunner Danny Strong and veteran Emmy-winning producer Warren Littlefield.
The series, a production of Fox 21 Television Studios eyed for 2021, adapts author Beth Macy’s 2018 journalistic book, Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors and the Drug Company that Addicted America. Hulu’s series, like the book, will focus on the ordeal of a Virginia mining town, with Keaton starring as Samuel Finnix, who’s described as “an old-school doctor who approaches his practice with kindness and compassion, but finds himself embroiled in Big Pharma’s deadly secret.” Yet, the series will also intersect “unsparing yet deeply human portraits” of families affected by the pill-pushing encroachment of monolithic companies, all while attempting to shine “a hopeful light” for the future. The BBC and Tvnz’s adaptation of Man Booker Prize winning novel “The Luminaries,” starring Eva Green, is among the scripted TV projects that will feature in this year’s Berlinale Series Market and Conference program at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Set during the 1860s gold rush in New Zealand, the Working Title and Southern Light Films-produced “The Luminaries” is based on Eleanor Catton’s prize-winning novel of the same name. FremantleMedia handles international sales.
“The Luminaries” is one of several ‘strong’ Australian and New Zealand series screening at the market, according to Berlinale Series Market and Conference co-ordinator Katharina Böndel.
Böndel added that the line-up has a focus this year on shows with strong female leads or that are about minority groups or indigenous characters.
They include the second series of atmospheric outback crime drama “Mystery Road,” sold by All3Media International, which will also world premiere at the festival itself.

The best-selling 2003 memoir A Million Little Pieces has been adapted into a film depicting the drug recovery of author James Frey. While the book was later faced with controversy for not being 100% factual, it is still a (mostly) true story of a young man in crisis in the fight for his life.
Actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as James Frey, in the film directed by his wife, Sam Taylor-Johnson. The two adapted the screenplay together for the film. The cast also includes Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Billy Bob Thornton (Sling Blade), Juliette Lewis (Natural Born Killers), Giovanni Ribisi (Sneaky Pete), David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man), Odessa Young (Assassination Nation), Dash Mihok (Silver Linings Playbook), Eugene Byrd (Sleepers), Andy Buckley (The Office) and Tom Amandes (Everwood).

Frictionless international film and series production is at the top of agendas in Central and Eastern Europe these days, with increasingly competitive territories adopting policy tweaks and launching new film promotion bodies.
The freshly minted Slovak Film Commission is looking to catch up quick to its longstanding Czech counterpart, the Czech Film Commission, with a high profile at major fests, partnerships with Western European counterparts and streamlined services for foreign producers now on the table, says Zuzana Bielikova, who heads the org.
“We would like to make obtaining shooting permits in locations easier and eventually handle the formalities,” says Bielikova, who has spent years at one of Prague’s topline production companies, Negativ. In that capacity she has been part of the team behind critical successes such as “Alois Nebel” and the recent work of Czech docu legend Helena Trestikova.

When the cast and producers of “City on a Hill” took the stage Thursday morning, they had only shot the pilot of their upcoming Showtime drama. The group was getting ready to fly to New York to start production the next day, so much of the conversation focused on what they hope to accomplish with the new series. But one thing they know already: It’s going to be cold.
“When your face gets that cold, you start to slur your words,” Kevin Bacon said.
“That’s because your body is preparing for death,” Aldis Hodge added.
Temperature alone isn’t enough to set the series apart from so many Boston-set crime stories of the past. “The Town,” “Mystic River,” “Gone Baby Gone,” and more all featured plenty of wicked cold scenes, and “City on a Hill” shares a few more things in common with this popular subgenre.

Al Pacino looks weathered and downtrodden as disgraced college football coach Joe Paterno in the teaser trailer for the upcoming HBO film, Paterno. He stares off morosely as between scenes of players on the gridiron, child molester Jerry Sandusky being arrested and guiding a boy into an elevator, men crying and journalists attempting to question Paterno – all as voices chant "Joe Pat-ern-o" and clap along excitedly.
