In the recent decades of Hollywood exporting slapped-together “children’s movies” to appease parents just looking to take their kids to anything that can pass the time, any film with an actual sense of youthful wonder in cinema feels like a lost artifact. For his directorial debut Riddle of Fire, director Weston Razooli creates such a utopia, following a group of mischievous children who embark on a woodland odyssey to deliver a pie, battle a witch, outwit a huntsman, befriend a fairy, and become best friends forever.
Though filmed in the Sundance headquarters of Park City, where Razooli grew up, the film premiered at Cannes Directors Fortnight last year and stopped by TIFF Midnight Madness. Ahead of the theatrical opening this Friday, I spoke with Razooli about capturing his neo-fairytale set on 16mm, being influenced by Hayao Miyazaki and Zelda, finding the right tone, what it was like working primarily with child actors,...

Exclusive: Talent agency Kmr Talent is grappling with a “talent payment breakdown,” a set of logistical and staffing issues that have resulted in late payments to clients, owner and President Mark Measures tells Deadline.
The revelation come following outreach to Deadline on the part of multiple talent reps, who say money owed to clients is now several months late. The situation triggered a wave of rumors that the agency may be going under.
Highlighting banking issues, the crashing of a database involved with payment, and the loss of the agency’s Head of Talent Payment as factors behind issues with pay-out, Measures stressed that the agency is actively “working [its] way out” of the situation, in dialogue with talent payment companies, as well as talent reps and unions.

"How about you and I be honest about what each of us want out of this – I want to milk the last ounce of baseball you got in you." Who doesn't love baseball movies?! America's past-time has made for some great cinema, with hundreds of beloved movies over the years dedicated to the sport. There's a baseball movies montage going around social media recently (it's embedded below) posted by the "Baseball History Nut" account saying: "Someone made a baseball movie montage and it actually deserves an Oscar. Thank you to whoever made this." The version posted on Twitter is actually a cut down version of a "Baseball on Film" video created by a YouTube user named "Adam K" that first appeared around 8 years ago. (They're always digging up content from the past.) Even though it may be an older video, still worth a watch. From comedies like Major League and The Sandlot,...

Updated: There has been another round of content removal from Disney+, this time in the Emea region, which consists of Europe, the Middle East and Africa. More than 120 titles have been taken off this week, primarily Disney Channel original movies and vintage Disney live-action films, as well as a few series, including Zeke and Luther, Pepper Ann, So Random and the first three seasons of Nat Geo’s Genius and ESPN/Nat Geo docs.
According to sources, the takedowns were a result of a library title review. There have been several content purges at Disney+ over the last year amid cost-cutting, most notably the removal of a slew of original series last May.
Here is a list of movie titles that are said to be gone from Disney+ in Emea, compiled by Drew Ryan.

Get in, loser. We’re riding with Rachel McAdams because she’s still Queen Bee.
Since she’s become a mother, life has changed. During the filming of Lionsgate’s “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” she had her five-month-old daughter and two-year-old son on set. Even her younger sister and make-up artist Kayleen had her two children, two and three months, by her side. “We had a really amazing mom-positive set,” she tells Variety. “Everyone understood me having to send breast milk down the road in a van all day long.”
But McAdams is susceptible to the looming sense of “mom guilt” that plagues many working parents, despite being “very lucky” to have lots of time with her kids. She found that connection and applied it to portray her role as Barbara Simon, the mother of the titular character Margaret (played by Abby Ryder Fortson) in Kelly Fremon Craig...

Before Tom Hanks became "America's Dad," he was a young heart throb of the 1980s. Starring in hit films like "Big," "Splash," and "Bachelor Party," Hanks met his match for most lovable lead character in the 1989 comedy "Turner & Hooch."
Directed by Roger Spottiswoode (whose filmography also includes the notorious Sylvester Stallone misfire "Stop! In the original film, Beasley the dog starred as the sweet and slobbery Hooch, a Dogue de Bordeaux (aka French Mastiff). The majority of us '90s babies spent a lot of time in front of the television. Say what you will about the boob tube and its lasting effects on our brains, my generation's heart absorbed most of the television's influence. "Hocus Pocus," "Matilda," "Mrs. Doubtfire," "The Sandlot," and "The Mighty Ducks" are all gems from my generation's golden era. Even as a grown woman, I'm totally engrossed by these films, and believe they stand the harsh test of time.
Along with an everlasting love for the movies, '90s babies also fell for a lot of those characters and the actors who played them. Of course, we realized that they were movie stars, but deep down in the cockles of our hearts, they felt like friends. One great '90s actor who is beloved by fans is Brendan Fraser.

Since the House of Ideas started putting them at the end of their movies in 2008 to tease whatever they had in store next, many other movies (mostly ones with superheroes in them) have followed suit and they've become trademarks of the genre at this point.
However, post-credits scenes aren't that new. "The Silencers" featured one in 1966. John Hughes utilized them in "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." And who can forget Animal's lovely send-off at the end of "The Muppets Movie"? So when it comes to Kevin Smith's "Clerks III," does the New Jersey native follow in the footsteps of some classic comedies that came before him?
Well, the answer to that is a little complicated. To address the question in this article's title directly, no, there...

If you grew up in the nineties, you undoubtedly grew up a massive fan of The Sandlot. A coming-of-age story centering around a group of baseball-loving kids who hang out every day in a Sandlot, the movie didn’t make much of a peep in theatres back in 1993. However, the box office didn’t tell the whole story, with the movie becoming a cult film on VHS, cable and later DVD, with writer-director David Mickey Evans eventually returning to make a Dtv spin-off, The Sandlot 2, while a prequel is still in development.
But what happened to all of the kids in The Sandlot? Unlike a movie like Stand by Me, there were no megastars like River Phoenix to emerge, but the cast still fared well in the years to come. Many have gone on to everyday lives, while others continue to work (successfully) in showbiz almost 30 years later. In this...

Gene Lebell, who had an acting and stunt career that stretched from The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet to 24 and who the WWE called today “a towering figure in the world of martial arts,” has died. He was 89.
Lebell reportedly had more than 1,000 TV and movie credits, mostly as a stuntman, but also as a heavy, often a fight referee and sometimes a colorful background character. Dubbed “The Godfather of Grappling,” he faced off onscreen against Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Bruce Lee. He refereed Muhammad Ali’s infamous fight against Japanese wrestler Antonio Inoki. Holding a 10th degree red belt in Judo and a 9th degree black belt in Ju-jitsu, helped train everyone from Lee to Norris to “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Ronda Rousey.
“Gene was the guy who taught Bruce Lee about grappling,” according to comedian, podcaster and UFC color commentator Joe Rogan.

What's summer all about?
It's about beaches, baseball, camping, road trips, amusement parks, treasure hunting, globetrotting to exotic locations, and sharing a pitcher of margaritas with friends.
These films and TV shows capture the essence of summer.
Blue Crush
Set in Hawaii, Blue Crush is about women surfers working to achieve the dream of surfing the famed North Shore.
Blue Crush balances the glamorous -- a pro-football player romances the lead character -- with the not-so-glamorous -- the heroines spend their days' training and working as hotel maids.
Most of all, it has plenty of surf action and waves -- those gigantic, gorgeous North Shore waves. You can stream Blue Crush on Redbox, Amazon Prime Video, or Tubi.

It was pretty sweet to be a kid in the '90s. "The Sandlot," "Little Giants," "All That," so many movies and tv shows were geared toward us '80s babies, and a lot of it has stood the test of time. One of the classics of that era is "The Mighty Ducks," a film that introduced this South Carolina girl to hockey and Charlie Conway. Oh yeah, the rest of The Ducks, too.
In the event that your childhood wasn't as cinematically awesome as mine, I'll give you a quick synopsis. Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez) is an egotistical lawyer who catches a DUI charge. He's...

Comedy sketch show The Kids in the Hall is returning after nearly three decades. The Canadian series, starring Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, Scott Thompson, and Mark McKinney, originally ran from 1988 to 1995 and has been resurrected by Prime Video. And in the trailer, the group literally emerges from a grave. “The original Emmy-nominated The Kids in the Hall was an alternative comedy sensation that developed a die-hard fanbase while influencing countless comedians and performers,” Prime Video said in a statement. “The new season marks the return of The Kids, with eight new episodes featuring all-new sketches from the beloved comedy troupe.” “What an amazing gift to put on our old wigs, and even get some new ones…,” the Kids in the Hall themselves added. The Kids in the Hall premieres May 13 on Prime Video and will launch in Canada and more than 240 other countries and territories worldwide. Check out...

It's been almost 30 years since "The Kids In The Hall" TV series went off the air and Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney, and Scott Thompson went off to fulfill solo careers. They may not be kids anymore, but the Canadian kings of sketch comedy are back. In the years following the end of their eponymous show, they put out the film "Brain Candy," have reunited a handful of times for tours and comedy festivals, and in 2010 released the eight-part miniseries, "Death Comes to Town." But now, The Kids are back for a full-blown, eight-episode revival season...

It would be tempting to call Apollo 10½: A Space Age Childhood a collection of Richard Linklater’s greatest hits. The film is a casual look back at a specific time and place, like Dazed and Confused (1993) and Everybody Wants Some!! (2016). It employs the whimsical rotoscope-style animation of Waking Life (2001) and A Scanner Darkly (2006), and it makes effective use of Jack Black, who has done his best work with the director in School of Rock (2003) and Bernie (2011).
But the film is more than just a pastiche of Linklater’s trademarks. Instead, it’s an opportunity for the director to bring his unique abilities to a story that is deeply specific yet captures the mood of an entire generation. It’s a nostalgic ode to life at the center of the space race and a celebration of childhood, optimism and the complexities of growing up American.

Art Lafleur, a character actor who often appeared as a cop, coach or tough guy and played Babe Ruth in “The Sandlot,” has died after a battle with Parkinson’s. He was 78.
His wife Shelley confirmed his death on Facebook, writing, “This guy… After a 10 year battle with A-typical Parkinson’s, Art Lafleur, the love of my life passed away.”

The “MLB at Field of Dreams” event will include a “corn maze” featuring the MLB silhouetted batter logo, and a first-of-its-kind LED lighting system that will illuminate most of the 159 acres of corn fields surrounding the ballpark. Players will also sport special uniforms for the game.

The Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees will face off at the baseball field located next to the cornfield where “Field of Dreams” was filmed.

With the Greater Sydney lockdown due to extend until at least the end of the month, Sydney Film Festival, intended to run August 18-29, will now move to new dates in early November.
This is the second date change for the festival so far this year; typically, Sff is held in June. It pushed its dates to August to following the shifts of major festivals like Cannes and Berlin.
In 2020, the festival was initially cancelled outright, before organisers pivoted to a smaller, online-only line-up of 33 films.
However, this year, while various models were considered through the Covid outbreak, moving entirely online was not an option, nor was a hybrid festival.
Sff CEO Leigh Small tells If that in rescheduling to November, the most important consideration was that the festival be able to go ahead in person, noting that audiences want to get back into cinemas, and industry is financially reliant on an in-cinema model.

“This year, Miff continues to evolve — to meet the moment, and to meet audiences where they are,” said artistic director Al Cossar.
“What will not change is the extraordinary lineup of cinematic adventures, from home and afar, waiting for them. These are anticipated festival blockbusters, experimentations, breakthrough discoveries, and a huge lineup of incredible Australian talent. We will again share a world of cinema, reignited, to...
