The original American television broadcast was 140 minutes long. The German release, which has become the TV and home video version, is 94 minutes long. Many of the deleted scenes included original songs, but there are currently no plans to release an uncut home video version.
Drew Barrymore was 11 years old during filming. She was also a regular at nightclubs, had been smoking for two years, and was beginning a dangerous flirtation with alcohol that would later extend to marijuana and cocaine.
While Keanu Reeves was in Munich filming this movie he was learning how to ride a motorcycle. He asked a young woman who drove an Enduro if she could teach him. When he returned to the US he got his first motorcycle and has had a passion for motorcycles ever since.
Leslie Bricusse created most of the score. Only parts of Victor Herbert's original operetta are used; the bulk of the score is newly created.
