Cameron Monaghan, known for his fan-favorite portrayal of Jedi fugitive Cal Kestis in the Star Wars Jedi video game series, recently set out his one condition for agreeing to bring the character to live-action It would have to be meaningful.
Will Disney+ Finally Bring Cal Kestis to Live-Action After Past Failures? Cameron Monaghan as Cal Kestis
Speaking at a FanExpo Vancouver 2024 panel with The Direct, Monaghan told fans he wants to ensure any potential live-action debut makes narrative sense and continues Cal’s story in a substantive way.
“It would have to be right. By that I mean, it has to continue the story or the character in some way. I don’t want him to just kind of show up to stand around and be there,” Monaghan explained. “I want him to mean something and for there to be a significance for the character itself. So, it would have to make sense.

When someone asks you, "Wanna buy some Death Sticks?" -- just say no. Unless you're Obi-Wan Kenobi, in which case you can use a Jedi mind trick to convince the dealer that they don't want to sell you Death Sticks, and that they should instead go home and rethink their life.
It's a small throwaway moment in "Star Wars: Episode II -- Attack of the Clones," but Elan Sleazebaggano (as he's identified in the credits) has become one of those extremely minor "Star Wars" characters regarded with fondness by fans -- like Porkins, Max Rebo, or Glup Shitto. "Everyone knows the 'Death Sticks Guy,'" declared the Death Sticks Guy himself, Matt Doran, in a recent interview with Empire magazine. "It's such a short scene, but it's amazing just how many people reacted to that one little tiny moment."

The latest trailer for The Bad Batch Season 3 surprised fans by bringing back Asajj Ventress for the Star Wars animated show's final set of episodes, and it looks like she might make further appearances in even more projects down the line.
Asajj Ventress’ last appearance in the canon timeline was during the book Dark Disciple, which takes place a few months after her final Clone Wars episode.
By the end of the book, she dies after taking a Force lightning bolt from Count Dooku, which was meant for Jedi Master Quinlan Vos (who was hinted at in Obi-Wan Kenobi)—whom Asajj had developed deep feelings for.

Move over, Nick Fury, it’s Mace Windu’s time to shine! At least, that’s what would happen if Samuel L. Jackson had anything to do with it. Jackson first played Mace Windu in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, but unfortunately, the Jedi Master met his end in Revenge of the Sith after his hand was sliced off by Anakin and he was flung out of a window by Palpatine’s Force lightning. However, Jackson is confident that Mace Windu didn’t die and would jump at the chance to return for a series on Disney+.
While speaking with Empire for their issue celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Samuel L. Jackson had just one thing to say about Mace Windu’s supposed demise: “He’S Not Dead!!!” Aside from a brief voice appearance in The Rise of Skywalker, Mace Windu hasn’t come back from the dead,...

Ray Stevenson's Baylan Skoll played a major role in Season 1 of Ahsoka, and the character may be brought back when the Star Wars Disney+ series returns.
Baylan Skoll was featured throughout Ahsoka Season 1 as a Jedi-turned-dark in search of something better for himself and his apprentice, Shin Hati.
Many fans praised Stevenson's performance in the role, but due to the actor's tragic passing, there are questions about if Baylan will return in future Star Wars projects, particularly Ahsoka Season 2.

Who can be a Jedi? The "Star Wars" franchise has changed this answer over the years. We've gone from a select few bloodlines who are predetermined to be Force-sensitive at birth, to everyone being able to use the Force if they train hard enough. In the original trilogy we mostly just saw humans being able to wield lightsabers and use the Force — the sole exception being Yoda. It wasn't until the prequels that we started seeing all sorts of creatures and aliens as Jedi — characters with multiple arms, with tentacles on their face, and other cool alien features who were all part of the Order.
In recent, years with the High Republic (and the "Clone Wars" cartoon) titles, we've also got canonical Wookiee Jedi, finally giving us a Jedi that can as easily cut down a droid battalion as he is to rip it to shreds with its claws. Wookiees...

"Star Wars" has one of the vastest universes in fiction -- one that is ever expanding, incredibly detailed, and fleshed-out, in addition to feeling lived-in. The thing that makes this franchise and fictional universe unique is that unlike Tolkien's Legendarium, or, say, the "One Piece" world, "Star Wars" is far from the work of a single person, or even a single team.
The "Star Wars" universe has grown and expanded piece by piece over nearly 50 years, with new artists coming in and building on the surprising success of George Lucas' original 1977 film. The original trilogy introduced a fleshed-out world with a long history that was barely hinted at, with places, people, and concepts that other writers in what was known as the Expanded Universe (now Legends) could expand on and explain. Of course, we've seen many elements from the Expanded Universe become part of the post-Disney canon in recent years,...

Sometimes it seemed like Carl Weathers could do anything. The football star-turned-actor also directed a fair number of television episodes (including two episodes of "The Mandalorian") and worked as a producer, extending his experience into all parts of entertainment. He worked with an incredible range of talent and touched many lives even beyond those he interacted with directly, making his passing a massive blow to anyone who loves movies or TV. The absolute titan sadly died yesterday at the age of 76, and many of the people who he worked with and who were inspired by him took to social media to share their feelings about the late, great man.
The outpouring of love included words from co-stars like Pedro Pascal and Jesse Ventura, along with regular collaborators like Adam Sandler, whom Weathers worked with on movies like "Happy Gilmore," "Little Nicky," and "Eight Crazy Nights." There's a Carl Weathers-shaped hole in the world,...

Carl Weathers, the legendary actor known for his roles in movies like "Rocky" and "Predator," has only just passed away at the age of 76. Though not talked about nearly as much as his on-screen work, Weathers was also an accomplished director and called the shots on many shows during his decades-long career, including "Hawaii Five-o" and "Law & Order." In recent years, he's played Greef Karga on the "Star Wars" TV show "The Mandalorian." Even then, however, Lucasfilm made use of his talents behind the camera as well, with Weathers directing not one but two episodes documenting the galactic adventures of Mando and Grogu.
Most recently, Weathers directed an episode titled "The Foundling," which aired as part of the show's third season in 2023. Speaking to Hype Beast after the episode premiered, the actor-turned-director explained his approach to directing specifically in the "Star Wars" universe," which is no small thing. In short?...

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars -- The High Republic: Escape From Valo."
"Escape From Valo" is the latest novelized "Star Wars" offering in the era of "The High Republic." Written by Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong, it follows the Jedi Padawan Ram Jomaram (previously seen in books like "The High Republic: Race to Crashpoint Tower" and "The High Republic: The Rising Storm") as he finds himself deep inside the Nihil Occlusion Zone, trapped on the planet Valo. Valo was the site of the Republic Fair -- sort of an intergalactic World's Fair -- and a brutal attack by the Nihil.
For those not up to date on the High Republic Era, the Nihil is a brutal band of pirates that uses secret paths in hyperspace lanes to maraud the Republic. After causing a massive calamity in hyperspace, they drew the attention of the Jedi, who became their sworn enemies.

Daisy Ridley returned to the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast amid the release of her latest indie film, “Sometimes I Think About Dying,” and looked back at the divisive response to her final “Star Wars” movie, 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker.” The movie, along with its predecessor “The Last Jedi,” generated outrage from fans due to creative decisions that many felt went against the spirit of the franchise.
“It’s still upsetting,” Ridley said now when asked about the response. “You don’t want people to feel like you’ve not served the thing they’re a fan of. But [‘The Last Jedi’] was so divisive…it felt like the first one everyone was responsive in the same way. The second, super divisive. The last one, super divisive. It didn’t change how I felt about it.”

There would be no "Star Wars" without Akira Kurosawa. The fabled Japanese filmmaker was a massive influence on creator George Lucas and his vision for a galaxy far, far away, with his period adventures "Seven Samurai" and especially "The Hidden Fortress" informing so much of the Jedi's aesthetics and philosophy, as well as the plot and characters of "A New Hope." Creatives on more recent "Star Wars" projects have only continued to mine inspiration from Kurosawa's oeuvre, with Rian Johnson drawing pretty explicitly from the director's classic "Rashomon" for the perspective-shifting flashbacks to Luke Skywalker's confrontation with his nephew Ben Solo in "The Last Jedi."
For "Ahsoka," a spinoff of "The Mandalorian" and live-action sequel to his animated series "Star Wars Rebels," creator Dave Filoni -- who's since been promoted to chief creative officer of Lucasfilm -- looked to another Kurosawa film entirely for the show's most fantastical outing yet.

As the line goes, "Nobody hates 'Star Wars' more than 'Star Wars' fans." For a series that encourages viewers of all ages to imagine vast fantastical landscapes and stirring narratives of revolution, it has always drawn the ire of some of its loudest fans. After the original trilogy closed with 1983's "Return of the Jedi," fan negativity has been a constant.
The prequel films in the series, from 1999's "The Phantom Menace" to 2005's "Revenge of the Sith," drew criticism for their staid dialogue, copious CGI, and convoluted plotting, but the fan reaction was worse, and particularly hard on young Anakin Skywalker actor Jake Lloyd. The sequels being even more divisive could only have been predicted by the most jaded observer.
In particular, Rian Johnson's 2017 film "Star Wars: Episode VIII -- The Last Jedi," the middle entry of the trilogy, drew extreme criticism. The backlash from some of the...

Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany took an obtuse approach Wednesday to covering Donald Trump’s win in the New Hampshire primary — and the lies he told in his victory speech — focusing instead on how other news networks covered the comments.
McEnany, in the opening segment of her “Outnumbered” news talk show, attempted to shame MSNBC and CNN for not similarly covering President Joe Biden’s speeches.
“The media, they had a rather interesting decision to double down on not showing President Trump’s victory speech in full,” McEnany said before greeting her viewers and introducing fellow “Outnumbered” panelists Emily Compagno and Harris Faulkner. They were also joined by guests: former Michigan gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon and Democratic campaign strategist Kevin Walling.

While recently scrolling Twitter, an interesting anecdote came to my attention. In the fabled George Lucas outline for a Star Wars sequel trilogy, a treatment which the filmmaker shared with the Walt Disney Company when he sold Lucasfilm for $4 billion, Lucas apparently had a strange vision for Luke Skywalker: He wanted the older version of Skywalker to be like a character in a movie Lucas almost made before Star Wars. He wanted him to be, in essence, Marlon Brando’s Col. Kurtz from Apocalypse Now, right down to the bald head and rambling gibberish.
This detail is not new. In fact, Pablo Hidalgo first confirmed the information in Star Wars: Fascinating Facts (2020). In that book (via Total Film/GamesRadar+), Hidalgo wrote, “Although Luke Skywalker only barely appears in The Force Awakens, the concept artists had a lot to imagine based on the fragments of the story they were hearing as it developed.

Jon Favreau's "Star Wars" series "The Mandalorian," which debuted in 2019, was the first live-action "Star Wars" TV series and is set only a few years after the events of "Return of the Jedi," but a few decades before the events of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Although the titular Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) is not the fan-favorite bounty hunter character of Boba Fett (who appeared to die in "Return of the Jedi"), the exploration of a similarly-helmeted character likely served to expand on Boba Fett's backstory by proxy. It wouldn't be until later that Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) would be revealed to have survived "Jedi," and get a TV series of his own.
The first season of "The Mandalorian" involved the transport of an alien infant belonging to the same gremlin-like species as Yoda. The Baby Yoda, named Grogu, became a marketing bonanza, and Grogu merch is now plentiful across all sci-fi collectibles outlets.

The state of the Star Wars franchise in cinemas remains a bit unclear. Earlier this month, Lucasfilm announced The Mandalorian & Grogu, a movie to be directed by Jon Favreau based on the popular Disney+ series and that will set our lovable father and son duo on a brand-new adventure. It’s being fast-tracked into production this year, which suggests it’ll be the first new Star Wars movie to come out since The Rise of Skywalker bowed in Dec. 2019.
Interestingly, before that surprise announcement last week, it really seemed like the first movie on Lucasfilm’s docket was the untitled Rey movie, which is set to pick up 15 years after the events of the Sequel Trilogy. It’ll bring back Daisy Ridley to the galaxy far, far away to “build the New Jedi Order, based on the text that she was given and that Luke imparted on her,” as...

Daisy Ridley hasn’t been part of the Star Wars universe since the 2019 trilogy capper The Rise of Skywalker. And it didn’t take a whole lot of force for her to rejoin, saying the story that was pitched by Kathleen Kennedy made her sign on to be in yet another series of movies.
Speaking with French outlet AlloCiné, Daisy Ridley said Star Wars producer Kennedy approached her to have a seemingly innocent enough bite to eat, but soon enough said there were plans to continue the story of Rey. “I thought about it for a little bit and once I knew what the story was and everything I knew it was something I really wanted to do. I think it’s a really fantastic exploration of the Star Wars world. It’s a really cool way of taking the story on in a bit of a different direction.”

The rumors were true. All of them. Don’t expect The Mandalorian season 4 any time soon. Instead, we’re getting The Mandalorian & Grogu, a feature-length film to be directed by series creator Jon Favreau and that will be released in theaters. While Deadline reports that a fourth season of the series is “also in development,” the movie is being fast-tracked into production this year, according to a press release, which makes it unlikely we’ll see more of the show any time soon.
What this new film chapter may entail for the heroes is anyone’s guess, as Mando and Grogu seemed to finally settle down in a hut on Nevarro at the end of season 3. Have Grand Admiral Thrawn’s return and new problems on Mandalore forced the bounty hunter and his adopted Jedi son out of retirement? Lucasfilm ain’t saying just yet.

Game Of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Db Weiss have revealed that their cancelled Star Wars film was an origin story called The First Jedi.
In 2018, when the clamour surrounding Game Of Thrones was still near its peak, showrunners David Benioff and Db Weiss were revealed to have struck a deal with Lucasfilm to make a Star Wars movie – the first in a potential trilogy. The plan was that they’d embark on their space-fantasy after the eighth and final season of Game Of Thrones aired the following year.
Needless to say, Benioff and Weiss’ Star Wars film didn’t happen. Years later, though, the usually media-shy creative duo have talked to The Hollywood Reporter about the concept they pitched to Lucasfilm – it would, in essence, have been yet another prequel, but one that would have taken us back thousands of years in Star Wars lore to the birth of the Jedi Order itself.

Before it became eponymous with shows that fell off in their final season and got everyone mad, "Game of Thrones" was once the biggest show on TV around the world. It helped revolutionize genre TV like "Lost" did in the 2000s, paving the way for titles like "Rings of Power" and "The Witcher," as every streamer sought their own big fantasy adaptation.
Now, after losing their horrible-sounding alt-history slavery drama and also their "Star Wars" movie about the first Jedi, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are back on TV and working with writer Alexander Woo on another show based on a book long considered unadaptable — "3 Body Problem." Adapted from Liu Cixin's book trilogy of the same name, this is a sci-fi story with epic proportions that encompasses the history of the human race, and stakes just as big. After "Game of Thrones" became an unprecedented worldwide phenomenon, the world was David Benioff and D. B. Weiss's oyster. The showrunners were going to create an alt-history slavery drama for HBO (which sounded absolutely awful), and they even had a deal to make their own "Star Wars" trilogy rumored to be set in the Old Republic era, back when seemingly everyone was getting their own "Star Wars" movie.
But then the final season of "Game of Thrones" was nearly universally hated, and the duo lost both their HBO show and their "Star Wars" trilogy.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the release of their new TV adaptation, "3 Body Problem," Benioff and Weiss addressed their canned "Star Wars" project, which was going to go back to the very beginning.

So, what was David Benioff and Dan Weiss’ shelved Star Wars movie all about?

The producers also discuss the backlash to Thrones‘ final season, their short-lived Confederate idea, their 3 Body producer’s bizarre Breaking Bad-inspired murder, and the many challenges that came from making their hugely ambitious new show.
On the Star Wars front, the duo confirm media reports from 2019 that they were looking at the early days of the Jedi, but added some details.

Not so long ago and in a galaxy that looks remarkably like our own, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opened in cinemas and went on to gross $1.1 billion. While a remarkable drop down from The Last Jedi only two years earlier—and a more alarming 50 percent below 2015’s The Force Awakens—a billion dollars is still a billion dollars. Well, the world of Lucasfilm just got a lot clearer. “The Mandalorian” season four? Nope, as we just reported, instead, Jon Favreau will be directing a movie tentatively titled, for now, “The Mandalorian and Grogu.” That’s a surprise movie because previously, we only knew of three movies in the works: one from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (‘The Jedi Order’ film with Rey), one from James Mangold.

“Ahsoka” Season 2 is in development with creator Dave Filoni, Lucasfilm has confirmed.
The news came with the reveal of the new “Star Wars” film “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” directed by Jon Favreau, which was unveiled Tuesday morning.
“‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ will lead Lucasfilm’s ongoing feature-development slate, including films helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni, who is also currently developing ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2, among those in the works,” the announcement said.
“Ahsoka,” which aired its Season 1 finale on Oct. 3, starred Rosario Dawson as the fan-favorite Jedi, who’s trying to save the galaxy from Grand Admiral Thrawn, a new threat after the fall of the Galactic Empire. Dawson first brought Ahsoka Tano to live-action in “The Mandalorian” Season 2 and also appeared on “The Book of Boba Fett.”
In addition to Dawson, “Ahsoka” Season 1 starred Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as New Republic general Hera Syndulla,...

Padmé Amidala died moments after giving birth to Luke and Leia in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Although Luke Skywalker would meet his father in the Original Trilogy, he never had a reunion with his mother… until now. In a meeting that seemed long overdue, Mark Hamill finally met Natalie Portman at the Golden Globes on Sunday.
Mark Hamill posted a photo of himself and Natalie Portman at the ceremony, where Hamill was on hand to present the first-ever Cinematic and Box-Office Achievement Award to the cast and crew of Barbie.
Now I have finally met my "mother", thanks to the @goldenglobes. pic.twitter.com/lkRZQgmLmp

What a touching family reunion. Now we just need to get Mark Hamill together with Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen. Wouldn’t that be something.
Related Mark Hamill definitely won’t return as Joker without Kevin Conroy

While Luke the mighty Jedi, Han the rogueish smuggler, and Leia the badass princess get all the attention, Chewbacca has long been the unsung hero of the "Star Wars" universe. Easily mistaken for a furry mascot, Chewbacca is the best friend you can ask for, the best co-pilot, and also one of the strongest fighters in the franchise.
Unfortunately, most of Chewbacca's lore has been told outside of the movies, like the best-forgotten "Star Wars Holiday Special" introducing Chewbacca's family and their holiday traditions, or the Expanded Universe books introducing the idea of Chewie owing Han a life debt. This means that a lot of people know rather little about him or the Wookiees.
Like so many elements of the galaxy far, far away, Chewbacca's life and general Wookiee culture only come into the picture and become important if and when a particular author decides it is important. That's the...

"Star Wars Rebels" is one of the best things to happen to "Star Wars" since the release of "The Empire Strikes Back." The animated series built on the success of the "Clone Wars" TV show to expand the lore of the galaxy far, far away and fill in gaps in the story, all while telling a classic adventure tale.
"Rebels" follows the crew of the Ghost as they go from making their way through the galaxy doing odd jobs to helping kickstart the Rebel Alliance. At its core, it is a pure "Star Wars" adventure, with a pair of Jedi, a scoundrel, a rusty old ship, and plenty of formidable enemies, but it's also much more than that. The show brought closure to the stories started in "The Clone Wars" by bringing back Maul for an exciting final duel, and by giving Rex one last fight (one actually worth fighting...

[This story contains spoilers for Ahsoka.]
Ahsoka star Eman Esfandi called his own shot.
When Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano first appeared in live-action on The Mandalorian season two and voiced her intention to find the villainous Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), Ezra Bridger’s own jump to live-action immediately became a near-inevitability for die-hard Star Wars fans. The already-great odds increased even more when Dawson’s spinoff series, Ahsoka, was announced shortly thereafter in December 2020, with longtime Star Wars creator and George Lucas apprentice Dave Filoni at the helm. This meant that Filoni would likely introduce not only Ezra and Thrawn into the live-action fold, but also plenty more of his beloved animated characters from the likes of Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
As a result, the role of the long-lost Jedi, Ezra, became one of the most coveted parts in town, and six months before the casting process even started,...

Natalie Portman had never seen a ‘Star Wars’ film until she was cast in the franchise. The 42-year-old actress played Padme Amidala in 1999 prequel 'The Phantom Menace' and its 2002 and 2005 sequels, and though she was “aware of the lingo” of the sci-fi world, she hadn’t actually sat through any of the original trilogy. She admitted to Radio Times magazine: “I didn’t know the films at all before I was cast!“I was aware of the lingo, as American culture is so immersed in ‘Star Wars’.“Even if you’ve never seen the movies, you know what Princess Leia buns are, what a lightsaber is, what a Jedi is, you know who Yoda and Obi-Wan are… you know all these words and names before you even see the films.“But I only saw the films when I was approached to do them.”Natalie can next be seen...
