Golf prodigy Michelle Wie West is getting the documentary treatment, with NBC Sports and Campfire Studios working on the project alongside the Usga. The doc, Dream Big: The Michelle Wie Story, will debut in May on NBC and stream on Peacock ahead of the U.S. Women’s Open Presented by Ally.
Wie West, who was the youngest woman to ever compete on the PGA tour and is a five-time Lpga Tour winner, made her first Lpga cut at age 13, and went pro at 16. She retired from professional golf last year.

Vertical has acquired U.S. rights to Catherine Hardwicke’s “Prisoner’s Daughter,” a thriller with Brian Cox and Kate Beckinsale that premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
The film is about a terminally ill father who is recently released from prison and struggles to connect with his daughter and grandson. Vertical will release “Prisoner’s Daughter” in theaters on June 30, 2023.

Exclusive: In the wake of his seven-figure spec sale of The Bee Keeper to Miramax, which has Jason Statham attached to star, Kurt Wimmer will next direct his original script Solara for Oakhurst Entertainment and The Motus Studios.
The project is billed as a throwback to the raw and down-and-dirty tone and ethos of such 1970s movies as the Charles Bronson, Elmore Leonard scripted Mr Majestyk and the John Flynn-directed, Paul Schrader co-scripted Rolling Thunder starring Tommy Lee Jones and William Devane.
The project will be produced and financed by Jai Khanna and Marina Grasic of Oakhurst Entertainment along with Emanuele Moretti of The Motus Studios. Wimmer will also produce. Verve Ventures arranged the financing and will co-represent domestic rights with Motus handling international.
“Astonishingly powerful and poignant, Wimmer’s script has a furious sense of purpose. It was a no-brainer for us to dive in,” Khanna tells Deadline.

Oakhurst Entertainment is plotting a drama series based on the life of Victoria Woodhull, Variety has learned exclusively.
Oakhurst, founded by former Brillstein Entertainment manager Jai Khanna and producer Marina Grasic, has acquired Agatha Dominik’s script “Woodhull,” which is based on the biography “The Woman Who Ran For President: The Many Lives of Victoria Woodhull”, written by Lois Beachy Underhill. Michele Berk of Lotus Pictures will produce along with Oakhurst. The project is currently out to talent.
Dominik is repped by Gersh.

Khanna spent two decades at Brillstein representing artists and packaging content across books, film, and TV. Grasic, who also served as an executive producer on the Oscar-winning film Crash, is former entertainment attorney and previously was COO of Sidney Kimmel Entertainment.

Nearly 60 international and Canadian producers will head to the Ontario Media Development Corporation’s (Omdc) annual International Financing Forum in Toronto.
The 10th anniversary edition of Omdc’s International Financing Forum (Iff), a feature co-financing market for English-language projects, will run Sept 13-14 during Toronto International Film Festival (Sept 10-20).
The projects include Drama, the third feature to be directed by Oscar-winning Us actress Helen Hunt, written by Justin W. Lo (‘Mistresses’).

The story centres on a traumatised American volunteer doctor on leave in Laos who flees into the interior after he intervenes to help the victim of a sexual assault and kills the assailant.
Casting is underway on River, which is scheduled to commence principal photography in Laos and Thailand in January.
Nick Sorbara of Reach Me and Pontypool fame is producing via his RedLab Digital and Sanzhar Sultanov co-produces through his company Know Rules Media. Brillstein Entertainment’s Jai Khanna serves as executive producer.

The singer-actor has joined the cast of the indie film, about a failed star turned stage manager (Grace) who must wrangle the eccentric cast and crew of a new production to save the show’s opening night. Acclaimed actress Shabana Azmi has joined the cast of Hollywood’s The Black Prince, a film telling the tragic yet fascinating true story of Maharaja Duleep Singh the last King of the Sikh Empire in Punjab. Son of the powerful ruler Ranjit Singh, he was born in 1838 and placed on the throne at the age of 5 after the death of his father. In 1849, when Punjab was annexed to British India, the young prince was removed from the throne and eventually sent off to England. His attempts to return to India and reclaim his kingdom were thwarted by the British. He ended up a pauper, dying alone in a Paris hotel in 1893.
