On Monday, President Biden met with 10 supposedly moderate Republicans in the Oval Office to discuss their scaled-down $618 billion Covid-relief proposal. Even though the economy is still reeling from the pandemic and tens of millions of Americans are struggling to feed their families and put a roof over their heads, they are very concerned about the $1.9 trillion price tag on Biden’s plan. Lately, it seems, Republicans have taken renewed interest in deficits and our growing national debt. That’s because a Democrat is in the White House.

“Saturday Night Live” (2002)
In 2002, Sen. John McCain became one of the rare politicians to host the show (with musical guest the White Stripes). Though he leaned heavily on Fred Armisen in his opening monologue, McCain gamely played everyone from Attorney General John Ashcroft to Irish American author Frank McCourt in sketches.
“Saturday Night Live” (2002)
In this hilarious parody of a Lifetime movie, McCain stars as the husband of a successful CEO (Amy Poehler) who invades his wife’s personal space in a way that is creepily stalkerish.
“Wedding Crashers” (2005)
McCain and Democratic strategist James Carville pop up early in this comedy to congratulate the fictional Treasury Secretary (Christopher Walken) and his wife (Jane Seymour) on the nuptials of their daughter.
“24” (2006)
McCain had a literal walk-on role in the fifth season ofthe Fox counterterrorism thriller as an unnamed CTU staffer who hands over a folder with no doubt top-secret information.

We don't know how Leslie Knope's gonna keep it together this time: Michelle Obama will appear on the season finale of NBC's Parks and Recreation, airing Thursday, April 24th, TV by the Numbers reports. The First Lady filmed her cameo in Miami recently while working on "Let's Move," her initiative that works to end childhood obesity and keep kids active out of school.

"Parks and Recreation" has booked another high-profile guest star from the world of politics for its sixth-season finale: First lady Michelle Obama.
The first lady filmed her scene earlier this week in Miami, where she was marking the four-year anniversary of her "Let's Move" initiative to fight childhood obesity. "Parks and Rec" star Amy Poehler joined Obama on stage at an event in Miami, but there was no indication then that the show would be filming as well.
Details of Obama's appearance on "Parks and Rec" aren't available at the moment, but given Poehler's presence in Miami, it could very well involve Leslie Knope's head exploding.
The first lady follows Vice President Joe Biden and Sens. John McCain, Olympia Snowe and Barbara Boxer in making cameos on the show.
The "Parks and Rec" season finale is scheduled for April 24.

Tonight at 8:30 Eastern, "Parks and Recreation" airs its first new episode since the Olympics, as well as the first new episode since Rashida Jones and Rob Lowe left the cast. It's terrific — the best one they've done since the season premiere — and I'll have a review of it up after it ends on the East Coast. And though Chris Traeger may be gone from Pawnee, the show just landed literally its most famous guest star ever, as it was announced that First Lady Michelle Obama will cameo in the season finale. The writers of "Parks and Rec" are revealing all on Sundance Channel's "The Writer's Room."
In this week's episode (Monday, Aug. 5 at 10 p.m. Et), Amy Poehler, Mike Schur and the "Parks and Recreation" writers reveal how they land their political guests, including Vice President Joe Biden, Newt Gingrich, John McCain, Barbara Boxer and Olympia Snowe.
"Occasionally ... I sometimes meet politicians who like and follow the show and kind of want to be on it, which is really cool," Poehler said in the exclusive clip above.
Schur said if the politicians haven't seen the NBC comedy, their staff has. In the case of Vice President Biden, Schur said the veep said he gets a lot of requests to do things, but "Parks and Rec" was the one gig he and his staff felt like he should do.
"He was so great. He was so fun," Schur noted. Poehler explained that she and Biden improvised.

Ben's bachelor party will be featured on "Parks and Recreation's" winter premiere next week and the big night sees a cameo from Newt Gingrich.
NBC has released the first photos from the episode, titled "Two Parties." They appear to show Gingrich arriving at the restaurant where Ben (Adam Scott), Tom (Aziz Ansari), Andy (Chris Pratt), Jerry (Jim O'Heir), Chris (Rob Lowe) and Ron (Nick Offerman) are having dinner before a night out clubbing and eating ice cream.
Gingrich's "Parks and Recreation" cameo happened by chance while the NBC comedy was filming on location in Indianapolis at St. Elmo Steak House and ran into the former Speaker of the House.
"Parks and Rec" co-creator Mike Schur, the episode's writer and director, had a quick meeting and wrote Gingrich into the script. "You can't pass up on an opportunity like that," "Schur told the Indianapolis Star.

If I told you to guess which network comedy was all set to feature special guest star, House Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi, you might choose Parks and Recreation as your educated guess. After all, that’s the show that has already delivered Joe Biden, John McCain, Barbara Boxer and Olympia Snowe. The guess would be an incorrect one, however. Today’s news pertains to Tina Fey’s 30 Rock.
I’m still sad that 30 Rock is ending, but the fun isn’t at an end just yet. We filled you in on what Ice-t is doing on the 30 Rock set and now a government official also has a dressing room on the NBC set. The Washington Post broke the news that Pelosi would feature in the bittersweet series finale.
The last ever episode is scheduled for on Thursday, Jan. 31. The finale will be a special one-hour event, which kicks off at 8 p.

NBC may have two political comedies when 1600 Penn joins Parks and Recreation on the Thursday block this week, but the former's creators insist that they are two decidedly different entities. Cameos from the likes of Joe Biden, John McCain, Barbara Boxer and Olympia Snowe, as seen on this season of Parks, won't have any place on the sitcom about a fictional first family starring Bill Pullman, Jenna Elfman and Josh Gad. "Our show exists in an alternative political universe," said pilot director and Ep Jason Winer at the semi-annual Television Critics Association press tour on Saturday. "If

A compendium of news and previews for "Parks and Recreation." If this were a regular feature, it would be called All the Bacon and Eggs We Have.

Filming at Indianapolis's St. Elmo Steak House (Ron Swanson, you ol' devil), Parks and Recreation ran into the one and only Newt Gingrich. Showrunner Mike Schur "quickly huddled with the episode’s writer and director to incorporate Gingrich into the script," reports the Indy Star. "It was a completely random chance," Schur said. "But you can’t pass up on an opportunity like that." Gingrich will now follow recent appearances by Vice-President Joe Biden and Sens. John McCain, Olympia Snowe, and Barbara Boxer. Rob Lowe was characteristically thrilled, tweeting, "Latest surprise drop by on set: Speaker Newt Gingrich! So we made up a scene and put him in!! #AllHappeningInIndy." Jonathan Banks playing papa to Ben Wyatt has gone so well — can Newt just be Chris Traeger's dad?...

Recently re-elected Vice President Joe Biden will make a cameo appearance as himself for a scene in next Thursday’s episode of NBC’s Parks and Recreation, airing Nov. 15 at 9:30pm Et. The scene was filmed last July at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building next to the White House. It was shot in the Vice President’s Ceremonial Office, also known as the Office of the Secretary of the Navy. During that visit to Washington, D.C., Parks and Recreation also filmed a scene with Senators Olympia Snowe, Barbara Boxer and John McCain for this season’s premiere, which aired Sept. 20. With the Us elections now over, and President Barack Obama officially back in office for another four years, fans of Parks and Recreation will be happy to hear that Vice President Joe Biden is set to make a cameo on next week’s episode.
The episode wasn’t allowed to air before the election, because it would have been viewed as a campaign contribution, but with all that now over, it’s game time for Parks and Joe Biden, and EW have a great little clip from the upcoming episode, Pawnee Commons.
“Parks scored camera time with Biden in July when the show traveled to Washington, D.C. to film its season 5 premiere, which featured appearances by Senators Barbara Boxer, Olympia Snowe, and John McCain. How big of a casting coup was Biden for NBC’s small-town government comedy? “Given that Eleanor Roosevelt and Bella Abzug are no longer with us,...

Jeo Biden will make an appearance on next Thursday's episode of Parks and Recreation.
Yes, that Joe Biden!
Entertainment Weekly has posted a photo of the re-elected Vice President on set, as he will appear at the outset of the November 15th installment.
Look for the cameo to take place when Ben takes Leslie to the White House to meet one of her personal heroes/crushes, the man she once described as encompassing her entire "celebrity sex list."
The scene was reportedly filmed in July when Parks and Recreation headed to DC for a Season 5 premiere that includes appearances by Senators Barbara Boxer, Olympia Snowe and John McCain.
They may now pale in comparison, meanwhile, but Ben's parents make their debut on the NBC sitcom tonight.

America's most ardent Joe Biden admirer, Parks and Recreation's Leslie Knope, is getting a crack at the man who comprises the entirety of her celebrity sex list on next week's episode. Yes — Amy Poehler, Adam Scott, White House, Vice-President, November 15. Scoring a scene with Biden, in the same July shoot in D.C. in which Parks nabbed cameos from Olympia Snowe, Barbara Boxer, and John McCain, was "so much less difficult than we ever possibly imagined," showrunner Mike Schur tells Entertainment Weekly. "[Biden's] staff really loves the show, and he apparently had watched the show with his family and his family liked it … The hardest part was keeping it secret for so long because there’s all these Fec rules and equal-time rules. We couldn’t air it before the election because it was the equivalent of a campaign contribution to advertise for one candidate."Schur adds that Biden was...

Tuesday night’s election results must’ve been such a relief for Vice President Joe Biden: Finally he could tell the world about his upcoming Parks and Recreation cameo!
President Obama’s second-in-command shot a brief scene when the NBC comedy filmed in Washington, D.C. this summer, EW.com and The New York Times report.
Because the veep’s appearance on the show could’ve been considered a campaign contribution that would’ve violated Federal Election Commission regulations, all parties were sworn to secrecy, and the comedy held the scene until after the election.

President Barack Obama and his family watch "Parks and Recreation" together as a family.
The president talked to TV Guide about his TV favorites -- "Homeland," "The Wire" -- and revealed that he and Michelle watch NBC's "Parks and Recreation" with daughters Malia and Sasha.
"When our family gets together to watch TV, we usually watch shows like 'Modern Family' and 'Parks and Recreation' because they give us a good laugh," Obama said.
Did Malia get the president into the show about local government hero Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler)? In March 2012, series star Aziz Ansari attended a fundraiser event in New York City and Obama informed him that he has a fan in the White House.
"Aziz Ansari ... now this is big because Malia is a big 'Parks and Recreation' fan," the president said at the fundraiser. "So having Aziz here is like the only thing she thinks is worth me doing.

Parks and Recreation, Season 5, Episode 1, “Ms. Knope Goes to Washington”
Written by Aisha Muharrar
Directed by Dean Holland
Airs Thursdays at 9:30pm Et on NBC
Tonight we return to Pawnee, Indiana with a brief detour through Washington, DC. Leslie and Andy are visiting Ben, who has accepted Jennifer’s offer to run a congressional campaign and taken April along with him as an assistant. Like much of the episode, this material is familiar but not in any way deficient. Andy’s reactions to Leslie’s tour of the national monuments recall his earlier visit to the Grand Canyon, and the look at what tour guide Andy would look like in the end-tag is one of the episode’s funnier moments.
What elevates this plot is Leslie’s emotional reaction to attending a party with Ben populated by DC’s equivalent to the A-list. When Leslie reveals she is a city-councilwoman,...

Sometimes, you just like getting together with old friends again. So it is with the fifth-season premiere of "Parks and Recreation."
"Ms. Knope Goes to Washington" is not the fall-off-the-couch funniest episode the series has done, despite some great stuff from Chris Pratt as Andy and the surprising comic duo of Tom and Ann. Ron's love of grilled meats almost went too far, sending him to the verge of being unlikable.
But this is a show that knows its characters so well and is so consistent in the way it handles them that it's fun just to spend 22 minutes with them, almost regardless of where they and we end up.

It would not be at all surprising if Ben returns to Pawnee for good at some point later in the season, but it's nice to see the show follow through on the scenario it set...

Washington, D.C. may not be known for its heart or its humor, but that was before Parks and Recreation came to town for the Season 5 premiere.
Everything about "Mrs. Knope Goes to Washington" was this sitcom as its best: warm, hilarious and full of Ron Swanson quotes regarding the magic of meat.
But while the premiere mined laughs from the lovable thickness of Andy (anyone know where he can pick up some free pants?) and the never-ending ridiculousness of Tom (sorry, I wouldn't buy Sparkle Suds), it also provided a legitimately interesting character study of Leslie.
This is a woman who has long seen herself as the next Barbara Boxer or Olympia Snowe. Which is easy to dream about from the comfort of Pawnee (Pawnee, Indiana, people!). But it's far more daunting and depressing to realize how far removed a spot on the local council is from these politicians...

After a long summer away, NBC came back in (almost) full comedy force tonight with the season premieres of Up All Night, The Office and Parks and Recreation. (30 Rock, which rounds out the yuk-filled evening, returns Oct. 4.)

So here’s the deal: Cruise through the mini-recaps below, give each comedy a grade via poll and then hit the comments to expand your thoughts. Did anything make you actually Lol? How do you feel about the seasons ahead? Let’s hear it!

Good news: Ron Swanson is ready to love again! Better news: Her name is not Tammy 3! Aubrey Plaza is a lot like her "Parks & Recreation" character, April Ludgate: dry, super sarcastic and very to the point. In a mere 10 minutes, Plaza joked about being naked in her bathtub, warned me about giving her number to my friends and accused me of hanging up on her. Twice.
In Season 5 of the NBC series (premiering Thursday, September 20 at 9:30 p.m. Et), Plaza's April finds herself in Washington, DC, assisting her roommate Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott) with a congressional campaign. She leaves her husband Andy (Chris Pratt) behind in Pawnee.

She has dozens of Washington Monument figurines. She keeps framed photos of Nancy Pelosi, Condoleezza Rice, and Janet Reno in her office. She once fashioned a Geraldine Ferraro action figure out of a photograph and a popsicle stick. In other words, Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) loves the heck out of government. So it seems fitting that in the season 5 premiere of Parks and Recreation (NBC, Thursday, 9:30 p.m.), she journeys to Washington, D.C., where she visits with her beau, Ben (Adam Scott), who’s working on a congressional campaign, and takes care of some official Pawnee business.

Parks and Recreation Season 4 Bloopers: Treat Yo' Self
Parks and Recreation is a funny show and the blooper reel is just as hilarious as an episode, especially when the cast have a hard time not cracking up. The season 4 DVD was released this week and we have some of the bloopers that will feature on that set.
These bloopers feature everything from a talking dog, Louis C.K., a lot of toilet humor, broken sets and Amy Poehler's very distinctive (and brilliant) laugh off camera. Pawnee's own Perd Hapley (Jay Jackson) makes an appearance and there are some fake ads for Bobby Newport's (Paul Rudd) campaign and a promo for Philly Justice; a TV show that I wish was real.

What’s even better than winning your City Council election against Paul Rudd?
This Parks and Recreation season 4 blooper reel, which only makes us long for the days of more new Parks and Rec (Sept. 20!) Check out Amy Poehler and Co. try – and fail – to keep it together between takes.
To be fair, you’d have trouble keeping a straight face if your job was to say “Is she powdering her vagina?” a bunch of times in a row. I’m looking at you, Adam Scott. Most shocking of all, Jerry (Jim O’Heir) didn’t seem to be wrecking any scenes.

Sen. Olympia Snowe, a moderate Republican who's represented Maine in the Senate since 1994, announced today that she won't seek reelection in November, citing polarization in Washington as the reason. Her retirement, coming from a state where Democrats hold a registration edge, is a blow to the Gop and puts the seat in play.
