Norman Lear was a man of modest physical stature, standing a trim 5’7″ on a good day. In terms of his impact on television — comedy primarily, but the medium as a whole — he was a giant, who belongs on any Mt. Rushmore of showrunners. He dominated an entire decade of TV like no one before or since, with hit after hit that expanded the boundaries of what could be done with the old-fashioned multi-camera sitcom format (shot on a stage in front of a studio audience), and what kinds of stories and characters audiences would accept.

The Horror of Dolores Roach and Harlan Coben’s Shelter ran for one season, while With Love is ending after two seasons.
They are the latest cancelations at the streamer over the last few months following shows such as The Peripheral and A League of Their Own, which had both been renewed before those decisions were reversed.

Todd Grinnell and Isis King, who both star in the show With Love, discussed trans visibility and the development of their relationship on season two of the show in their new exclusive uInterview for LGBTQ Pride Month.
Grinnell, who plays Dr. Miles Murphy, explained how their relationship has evolved between seasons one and two.
“We started season one as we did in the relationship like we’re getting to know each other and it was all kind of new and there was a lot of learning and growing,” he told uInterview founder Erik Meers. “And so in season two we really see the evolution of the relationship and we get into more, I think, even more honesty between Miles and Sol. But ultimately the love, I think, strengthens even more throughout season two and Miles brings Sol more into his, you know, life.”
King’s character, Sol, has a different perspective on season two.

"When you watch things change, you barely even notice it happen. Skip ahead and you can really see how things are." FilmRise has unveiled an official trailer for an indie romantic drama titled The Time Capsule, which isn't really a time travel film as much as it is a clever look at love & time. Here's the setup for this one: In the near future, a politician fresh off an electoral loss escapes to his family's summer lake house with his controlling wife. His vacation is disrupted by the appearance of his first love, who has just returned from a 20-year space voyage and oddly hasn't aged a day. The film stars Todd Grinnell, Brianna Hildebrand, KaDee Strickland, Baron Vaughn, and Ravi Patel. It doesn't look as bad as expected from the premise, and I'm curious if he gives up politics by the end. There's at least one intriguing shot with all these colors.

After closing the book on her splendid revival of “One Day At a Time,” creator Gloria Calderón Kellett is back with another series focused on new hilarious family. “With Love” holds commonalities with “One Day,” predominately in that both are about an intergenerational Latino family, but the Amazon Prime Video series finds even richer and deeper avenues to explore.
Each episode takes place on a different holiday across one year in the lives of the Diaz clan. Lily and her brother Jorge are approaching relationships from opposite sides. Starting on Christmas Eve, Lily has broken up with her boyfriend (and then failed to get him back), while Jorge is embarking on a new romance with the level-headed Henry (Vincent Rodriguez III). As each holiday approaches, we see the pair embark on a fresh set of challenges that, coupled with other events their relatives are going through, help inform their emerging identities.

Any show juggling multiple relationship dynamics gives itself the gift of possibility and the challenge of balancing it all at once. While it gets to tell several stories instead of relying on just one, some characters can easily fall through the cracks, or else become far less compelling when weighed against the others. Such is the case for “With Love,” a new Amazon Prime Video rom-com series from Gloria Calderón Kellett (“One Day at a Time”) that shines bright in some narratives and falls disappointingly flat in others.
Over five episodes, each unfolding over the course of a different holiday, “With Love” follows four interlocking couples as they fall in, out of, and back in love. Connecting them all are members of the Diaz family, a sprawling but tightly knit group with a lot of love, and more than a few codependent dynamics. The season details almost a full year of their lives,...

The hugely acclaimed reboot of “One Day at a Time” already experienced a major network shift when it moved from Netflix to Pop TV after the third season, mainly due to the loud, bring-it-back vocalization of its ardent fans. But nobody could have predicted the fate of its fourth and final season, originally slated to be 13 episodes, very suddenly shut down by Covid-19. The trouble was they only had six episodes under their belt, and who was to know when TV production could ever resume in early 2020 when the pandemic’s grasp was largely unknown? So the creators of the Norman Lear-blessed series (he also serves as an executive producer) turned to a very unlikely medium to have give audiences one last look: animation.
As co-showrunner and also the co-writer of the episode (with co-creator Mike Royce), quite pointedly entitled “The Politics Episode,” Gloria Calderón-Kellett was all-in from the get-go.

A throwback to all the B-grade knockoffs that followed such hit late ’80s/early ’90s household thrillers as “The Stepfather,” “Pacific Heights,” and “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle,” “Paradise Cove” will be nobody’s idea of an original movie, let alone a good one. Still, it provides a degree of schlock entertainment value, as a young couple discover their Malibu fixer-upper comes with a crazy homeless woman squatting on the premises, itching to turn homicidal … again. Low on suspense and plausibility but high on tasteless and absurd ideas, Martin Guigui’s film does offer undiscriminating viewers some fun, albeit more of a laughing-at than laughing-with variety.

"What's the wife of a big Hollywood producer doing livin' under a house?" Quiver has unveiled an official US trailer for an indie psychological thriller titled Paradise Cove, the latest film made by the musician / filmmaker Martin Guigui. How's this for a crazy concept? A contractor and his wife move to Malibu to flip his mother's beach house and are terrorized by the deranged homeless lady living under the house. Watch out for the unhinged squatter! The film is described as a "super fun throwback thriller" that seems to be riffing on a lot of the dumb 90s suspense films. Mena Suvari stars with Todd Grinnell, Kristin Bauer van Straten, Eddie Goines, Krista Allen, Horacio Galaviz, and Eddie Rivera. This looks a bit too wild and kooky, not in a good way. But you never know...? Here's the official US trailer (+ poster) for Martin Guigui's Paradise Cove, direct from YouTube: This February,...

Sony TV was not able to save “One Day at a Time” for a second time.
“It’s officially over. There will be no new @OneDayAtATime episodes,” co-creator Gloria Calderon Kellett said Tuesday on Twitter. “But there will always be 46 episodes that we got to make that live Forever. Thank you to this beautiful cast. Our dedicated crew. And to you, our loyal fans. We loved making this for you. Thank you for watching.”
Pop TV picked up the reboot of Normal Lear’s classic sitcom last year, after it was initially canceled by Netflix after three seasons.
Co-showrunner Mike Royce added on his Twitter account: “The only silver lining about not doing a show anymore is that nobody can take away the show you already did. Four seasons that will forever exist for people to watch.”
Netflix axed “One Day at a Time” in 2019, citing low viewership numbers for the critically acclaimed sitcom.

As it did after One Day At a Time‘s first cancellation almost two years ago, series producer Sony Pictures TV tried hard to find a new home for the praised reimagining of Norman Lear’s beloved 1970s sitcom. The effort — considered a long shot — was not successful, and the cast and crew were informed today that the show has come to an end. One Day at a Time co-creators/exec producers/showrunners Gloria Calderon Kellett and Mike Royce shared the news with the show’s fans on Twitter.

There will be no second great escape for “One Day at a Time.”
After the series was canceled for a second time two weeks ago, co-creators Gloria Calderon Kellett and Mike Royce have confirmed that it will not be revived.
Series producer Sony Pictures Television planned to shop the series to other outlets yet again following the Pop TV dumping, according to sources, but was clearly unable to find a suitable or willing buyer.

One Day at a Time just can't seem to catch a break. Pop has cancelled the comedy TV show after a shortened fourth season but there's a chance there could still be a fifth season.

It centers on Cuban-American Penelope Riera Alverez (Justina Machado). “One Day at a Time” is one and done on Pop TV. The ViacomCBS cable network does plan on ordering any additional episodes of the comedy after just one season, an individual familiar with the network’s plans told TheWrap.
Pop TV picked up the reboot of Normal Lear’s classic sitcom after it was initially canceled by Netflix after three seasons. Pop TV premiered its one and only season in March, which had to be cut short due to the pandemic shutting down production this spring (though they did scrape together a special animated episode). CBS aired the fourth season of the show this fall in primetime as a schedule filler while it waited for its normal primetime lineup to get the cameras rolling again.
A separate individual familiar with the situation told TheWrap that the show’s producers Sony TV are trying to find another new home for “One Day at a Time.

Almost two years after Netflix canceled One Day at a Time after three seasons, the praised reimagining of Norman Lear’s beloved 1970s sitcom is losing its network home again. And, just like it did in the spring of 2018, the studio behind the reboot, Sony Pictures TV, plans to shop the series to other outlets.
Pop, which aired One Day at a Time’s abbreviated fourth season earlier this year, has opted not to order more episodes. The ViacomCBS ad-supported cable network in 2019 rescued the series after its cancellation by Netflix in a complex deal that included encore airings on sibling CBS. A lot of things have changed since then. Following the merger of CBS and Viacom, Pop moved from the CBS to the Viacom side of the company, joining Chris McCarthy’s Entertainment & Youth division. Pop has since pulled away from original scripted programming; following the end of Schitt’s Creek,...

“One Day at a Time” has been canceled at Pop.
This now marks the second cancelation for the reboot of the classic 1975 Norman Lear sitcom of the same name. “One Day at a Time” was originally canceled at Netflix in early 2019 after three seasons. Pop rescued the show a few months later and began airing Season 4 earlier this year.
According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, series producer Sony Pictures Television will shop the series to other outlets yet again.
The move to end the series is not altogether surprising given the post-merger landscape that has taken shape at ViacomCBS, which owns Pop. Variety exclusively reported in March that Pop was all but shutting down its scripted series plans, with “One Day at a Time” and the final season of “Schitt’s Creek” being the two remaining scripted shows at the cabler.

Former State Representative and founder of Fair Fight Stacy Abrams was the perfect moderator for the One Day At A Time panel. For one, she is an activist and advocate for many issues that the reimagining of the classic Norman Lear sitcom embrace, but also because she is a true fan of the show. At the beginning of the virtual panel, Abrams just wanted Rita Moreno to say her name so that she could tell her family it happened.
“Stacey Abrams! Stacey Abrams! Stacey Abrams!” Moreno playfully sang.
“Ok, that was awesome…I’m leaving now,” Abrams gushed as the rest of the cast and creators on the panel laughed.
Abrams and Moreno were joined on the PaleyFest panel by Executive Producers Mike Royce, Brent Miller & Gloria Calderon Kellett as well as stars Justina Machado, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz, Todd Grinnell, Stephen Tobolowsky, India de Beaufort, Sheridan Pierce, Ed Quinn and Raquel Justice.
