In a case of life imitating art, the New Jersey location of Tony Soprano’s infamous Bada Bing! strip club has been shut down amid pending criminal investigation, the AP reports. The Lodi, New Jersey strip club Satin Dolls has been accused of solicitation of prostitution, lewd activity, and failure to account for “large amounts of cash moving in and out of the businesses.” “Illegal activity was glorified at the ‘Bada Bing’ in the fictional world of Tony Soprano, but it has no place in modern-day New Jersey,” said New Jersey Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino in a release. “It’s time to shut it down.”
The owners of Satin Dolls have been under investigation for six years, according to the Ag’s report. One of the owners, Anthony Cardinalle, admitted to federal income tax evasion in 1995, and pled guilty in 2013 to a racketeering conspiracy linked to the Genovese crime family.

In naming Spotlight one of the best ensembles of 2016, we said, “Tom McCarthy’s procedural moves with the precision of a fine timepiece. Rarely does one find a film where all is tune, from the pacing, writing, direction and acting. Highlighting the heroic work of the Boston Globe’s Spotlight team, the group is headed by Robby Robinson (Michael Keaton) who risks life long friendships to get the story right. His team includes Mike Rezendes (played by a compulsive Mark Ruffalo), Sacha Pfeiffer (Rachel McAdams) and Matt Caroll (Brian d’Arcy James). Encouraged by a Boston outsider, editor Marty Baron (Live Schreiber), the team undertakes a long-term investigation of abuses in the Catholic Church. In the mix are the lawyers on both sides, played by Stanley Tucci and Billy Crudup. Rightfully overshadowing that other journalism docudrama, James Vanderbilt’s incompetent Truth, the difference here amongst many things is perhaps access:...

The 22nd annual SAG Awards nominations were announced this morning and it's full of surprises! Sylvester Stallone, loved by critics and the National Board of Review for his performance in "Creed," was ignored. So was Kristen Stewart's supporting performance in "Clouds of Sils Maria." Matt Damon, who was so good and carried "The Martian" from start to finish, was also missing from the list.
But here's what I love about the SAG noms. First, Sarah Silverman's first dramatic performance in "I Smile Back" was embraced. And I'm also happy with the inclusion of "Room's" Brie Larson and the fantastic child actor, Jacob Tremblay. The endearing "Carol" also received noms for both Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, and Saoirse Ronan's performance in the beautiful "Brooklyn" also received a nomination.
The big winner of the SAG noms is Bleecker Street's "Trumbo." Missing from earlier critics awards (see here...

Person of Interest, Season 4, Episodes 7 to 11
Airs Tuesdays at 10 pm Et on CBS
The beginning of the fourth season of Person of Interest saw The Machine and its team once again saving lives, taking precautions against the watchful eye of Samaritan. Greer and his group weren’t the only looming threat, however, as a new criminal gang in the form of The Brotherhood began posing their own challenges for Finch and the team, as well as Elias. These last few episodes have seen both organisations forcefully assert themselves, resulting in casualties that have effectively added weight to the threats they have uttered.
The development of the Brotherhood and their fight against Elias continues to be a strong aspect of the show. While the storyline could have felt like a retreading of Elias’ own rise to power, the writers have managed to go in a distinctly different,...

Since Andrey Arshavin shows up exclusively to play well at the Euro and collect a paycheck when a team like Arsenal overpays for him, it’s no surprise that the tiny Russian helped spur his nation to a quick lead over the Czech Republic. But in spite of Russia’s chances, the Czechs pulled one back, and it was a beauty. Vaclav Plasil, you are your nation's lone source of pride today.
And hey, how 'bout those opening two matches? An exciting 1-1 draw between Poland and Greece, followed by an offensive shootout between Russia and the Czechs that looks like it will end in a 4-1 victory for the Motherland is as good as one could hope for from what's considered the tournament's weakest group. The tournament should only get better as the days go on.

On the fourth day of this year’s tournament, favourites Ghana opened their account with a 1-0 victory over an unfancied, though not easily brushed aside Botswana team, overcoming the weight of expectations that always threatens to derail even the strongest of favourites in this competition.
The responsibility fell to John Mensah to play both hero and almost villain in the match, as he scored the winner in the first half, before being sent off midway in the second for a rash foul on Jerome Ramatlhakwane to deny what the referee deemed a clear goalscoring opportunity.
The game opened with Botswana following the trend set by their fellow “underdogs” of the tournament by defending determinedly, and doggedly at times, and not allowing their supposedly vastly superior opponents the opportunity to play in the final third despite Ghana’s dominant possession.
Al Ain’s on-loan striker Asamoah Gyan offered some early spark,...

To vocally craft the characters within the DC Universe Animated Original Movies, the production brain trust of DC Entertainment, Warner Premiere, Warner Home Video and Warner Bros. Animation is smart enough to employ the best in the business – on both sides of the microphone.
While winners of Oscars, Emmys and Tonys alike provide the voices behind some of the world’s best known comic book characters, it is the super hero of voice directors that guides these unique talents – Andrea Romano.
Arguably the top animation voiceover director in the business today, Romano has been instrumental in orchestrating the vocal tones behind the first 10 Dcu animated films, including the highly anticipated February 22 release of All-Star Superman.
The eight-time Emmy® Award winner (not to mention 30+ Emmy nominations) has a voiceover casting/direction resume that spans more than a quarter century, covering the genre gamut from action (Batman: The Animated Series) and humor...

Jack Nicholson's storming performance aside, this 1992 biopic of Jimmy Hoffa suffers from an excess of fictional embellishment in David Mamet's screenplay, and unintentional nods to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody video
Director: Danny DeVito
Entertainment grade: C–
History grade: C
Jimmy Hoffa was an organiser for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, an American trade union, serving as its president for 13 years.
After a controversial career, mixed up with organised crime, he disappeared in 1975.
Crime
The film begins with Hoffa (Jack Nicholson)'s rise to power, depicting union politics as a long round of violence, thievery, bombings and Mafia deals. According to Robert F Kennedy's prosecution case against Hoffa, this is more or less accurate. Kennedy began to pursue Hoffa through the courts in the late 1950s. Sadly, the film doesn't invest much in Rfk, portraying him as little more than a posh, irritating suit. In real life, Hoffa and Kennedy's...
