We have an update on Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios' search for a director to take the helm of Spider-Man 4, and it seems Ms. Marvel and Bad Boys: Ride or Die filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah may indeed be in contention to land the gig.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, El Arbi and Fallah - who infamously helmed the Batgirl movie Warner Bros. decided to scrap as a tax write-off - are "in the mix" to direct the Spider-Man: No Way Home follow-up, but it sounds like there are other candidates.
Richtman also indicates that directors with "a current connection with Sony and Marvel Studios" are being looked at, and the studios may also be focused on enlisting "an indie director like they did with Jon Watts."
It's worth noting that Fallah was asked about the Spider-Man 4 rumors during a recent Bad Boys: Ride or Die event,...

As Sony Pictures continues to re-release all eight live-action Spider-Man movies in theaters, the latest Spidey adventure to swing back on to the big screen is 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home.
While the first few films performed pretty well, it seems these more recent instalments in the franchise are simply too fresh in a lot of people's minds, as Tom Holland's second solo outing as the Webhead took in just $265K on Monday for the lowest opening day of the re-releases so far.
Interestingly, this version of Far From Home includes a scene that didn't feature from the original theatrical cut of the movie, with Spidey taking out some goons in his Iron Spider suit.

The MCU currently has numerous projects in development, both movies and shows, despite Iger’s announcement that their creative output will significantly decrease to 2-3 movies and 2 live-action shows per year.
Many projects were greenlit before the SAG-AFTRA strike and the subsequent failure of several ventures, and now they need to be completed.
One such project is ‘Armor Wars.’ Initially conceived as a movie, it was redeveloped into a show, and now it’s back to being a movie again. According to the production schedule, ‘Armor Wars’ is set to begin filming on January 6, 2025, in Atlanta, USA. Although details about the movie are scarce, the production listing has provided a brief synopsis:
Cheadle returns as James Rhodes aka War Machine in Armor Wars, about Tony Stark’s worst fear coming true: what happens when his tech falls into the wrong hands. Stark discovers that someone has been stealing his...

The Spider-Man 4 rumors have been picking up steam over the past few weeks, as Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios (hopefully) get closer to making some kind of official announcement regarding the No Way Home follow-up.
Depending on what ends up being revealed in the trailers, this latest rumor may not turn out to be a major spoiler, but we're being careful just in case it is something that's kept out of the marketing.
According to Mttsh, Venom will appear in the fourth Spider-Man movie, but won't be the "main villain." There's no mention of Tom Hardy, so there's always a chance the Venom symbiote will take over another host.
Peter Parker himself, perhaps?
This would back up a previous rumor that the piece of the alien symbiote left behind at the end of No Way Home will factor into the plot, but would it be a smart move...

As Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios continue their search for a director to take over from Jon Watts on Spider-Man 4, a new rumor is claiming that both studios may be in agreement on a filmmaker to take the helm of the highly-anticipated No Way Home sequel.
According to MyTimeToShineHello, James Wan is one of the directors in the mix to helm the movie. Whether this means he's actually had discussions about boarding the project is not clear.
Wan has previously directed the likes of The Conjuring, Malignant, Insidious, and both Aquaman movies for Warner Bros.
The scooper is also claiming that Felicia Hardy, aka Black Cat, will make her debut in the movie.

After being publicly fired from the show he created, it seemed Dan Harmon was done with "Community" forever. Rarely, if ever, had a mainstream U.S. television network rehired a volatile showrunner after parting ways with them. Then again, "Community" always had a David and Goliath spirit and a surprising resilience to it, so anything was possible. Still, when NBC and Sony Pictures TV decided to bring Harmon back and hand him the keys to his show once again after an underwhelming fourth season without him, Harmon didn't have time to take a victory lap. Instead, as he relayed to Uproxx in an interview, he had one question: "Who the hell is gonna write the show"?
Because the negotiations to get him back took a little while to iron out, Harmon and his core team felt like they were already behind the eight ball when it came to season 5. "So...

The writers strike has taken a bite out of Blade.
Marvel Studios is shutting down pre-production on its vampire thriller starring Mahershala Ali, which was set to begin filming next month in Atlanta. The feature project, which has already been paused once before, becomes the first tentpole movie impacted by the strike.
Cast and crew members are being notified this afternoon.
Blade had recently hired True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto to work on the script, but, according to an insider, “time simply ran out.” The studio will restart the production once the strike is over.
Since the strike action began Tuesday, the biggest impact has been on late night talk shows and Saturday Night Live. One drama series, Showtime’s Billions, halted production Thursday due to picketing.

British filmmaker Dexter Fletcher is fresh off the release of his Apple TV+ crime caper Ghosted, and during a recent interview, Fletcher highlighted what he described as the “comprises” required when developing a project for a streamer.
“You can’t make a film for streaming the same way you do for theatrical,” Fletcher told Alex Zane’s A Trip to the Movies podcast. “There are different metrics and approaches. There has to be, for the very reason that people can turn off very quickly.”
The Rocketman filmmaker continued to say that he had initially planned a long and elaborate opening sequence for Ghosted that involved Ana De Armas driving a car through a mountain in reference to a scene from the 1978 film Foul Play, starring Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase. Exclusive: Skydance’s spy action comedy Ghosted starring Chris Evans and Ana de Armas is the most watched movie debut to date for Apple TV+.
In the pic’s first two days after dropping on April 21 — and we hear viewership has continued to swell into Monday and Tuesday — the Dexter Fletcher-directed movie pulled in 328,500 viewers per Samba TV. That’s more than the first two days of other highly viewed Apple TV+ movies including Finch at 228,500, Spirited at 174,000 Tetris (March 31) at 88,000 and My Mind & Me at 78,100.
The data came from a panel of 3.1M SmartTV households who tuned in for at least one minute. Samba TV’s research panel is balanced and weighted to the U.S. Census (around 112M) across age, gender, ethnicity and household income. Its panel is nearly 100 times larger than Nielsen’s household footprint of 45,000 homes.

[Editor’s note: This story contains major spoilers for “Ghosted.”]
Star power is hardly in short supply in Dexter Fletcher’s “Ghosted,” which reunites “Knives Out” co-stars Chris Evans and Ana de Armas as a pair of would-be lovers who meet cute, have a great date, and then are torn apart by the revelation that one of them (twist: it’s de Armas!) is an American spy who, understandably, doesn’t really have time for love.
But when Evans’ unlucky-in-love Cole decides to go after de Armas’ Sadie, believing she’s simply on a run-of-the-mill business trip and would welcome his grand romantic gesture. What follows is an action-adventure story with a dash of romance and plenty of big, things-go-boom set pieces, as the pair get pulled into a globe-trotting spy thriller.
But Evans and de Armas aren’t the only big names in the film — it also features everyone from Adrien Brody and Amy Sedaris to Tate Donovan...

Watching Chris Evans and Ana de Armas in the new Apple Original Film "Ghosted," it's hard not to think about the power of truly brilliant screenwriting. Specifically, it's hard not to think about how difficult brilliant screenwriting must be, seeing as it's nowhere to be found here. We have seen Evans and de Armas separately prove themselves to be immensely charming and charismatic performers, and we have seen them bounce off each other with aplomb in the excellent murder mystery "Knives Out," which served as something of a larger breakout role for de Armas and as a reminder that Evans had a lot more depth as a performer than just playing Captain America. They have both been very good before, and they'll hopefully be very good again. As long as they have good scripts, that is, because "Ghosted" sadly ain't it.

The romantic action comedy has always had a breathlessly eager-to-please, overstuffed quality. You might say it’s a what’s-not-to-like genre. We laugh! With pulses racing! And swoon at the moonstruck chemistry! In a superior rom-act-com, like “Romancing the Stone” or “Out of Sight” or “True Lies” or the new “Murder Mystery” sequel, the action is the romance — it’s how the characters connect. (One way the form extends vintage Hollywood screwball is that it tends to be about couples who so dislike each other that only by joining in death-defying scrapes can they melt the ice.) But then there are movies like “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” where the love gets sandwiched between vehicular mayhem so aggressive it’s played for “laughs,” and the too-muchness of the whole thing becomes like one of those fast-food fusion experiments. Sorry, but the movie escapism equivalent of a burger topped with a quesadilla...

We all have a few skeletons in our closets, don’t we? Or in this case, let’s call them ghosts; people (including romantic interests) we have abruptly stopped responding to hoping they’d just disappear without a confrontation.
In actor-turned-director Dexter Fletcher’s spy rom-com “Ghosted”—a cookie-cutter but adequately fun flick that could’ve used some sharpening up on the page—Sadie Rhodes (Ana de Armas) has countless ghosts in her past, and not just the romantic kind. Posing as an art curator but working as a deadly and powerful CIA spy, Sadie simply doesn’t have the time to keep those ghosts alive and well. So, where could her fiery one-night-stand possibly go with Chris Evans’ wholesome Cole, a modest East Coast farmer who still lives at home and has never even left the country before?

If you found yourself craving a full meal of Ana de Armas as a butt-kicking CIA agent after the appetizer serving in No Time to Die, Apple TV+ has got you covered. The Oscar-nominated Blonde survivor plays another unflappable American intelligence agent, as handy with her fists as her guns, in Ghosted, rekindling her Knives Out chemistry with Chris Evans, in amusing fish-out-of-water mode as a farmer unwittingly dragged along on a hair-raising, globe-hopping mission. Dexter Fletcher’s action-adventure rom-com doesn’t break the mold, but it’s fun and flashy enough to grab viewers in significant numbers.
Apple and Skydance have certainly thrown some resources at the glossy production, from the magnetic leads and elaborate action set-pieces right down to the major-name cameos that pop up in humorous guises. The script is the combined effort of seasoned Spider-Man team Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers with Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

However, fans are eagerly awaiting the inevitable day when Chris Evans returns to play Captain America once again, but it likely won’t be anytime soon.
While appearing on Good Morning America to promote the upcoming release of Ghosted, Chris Evans was asked about a possible return as Captain America. “Oh man, you know, as much as I would love to. That was such a special time in my life,” Evans said. “I’m very precious with the character. That’s the problem. I’m so protective of it. To come back, it would have to be for the right reasons and the right timing. It feels a little too soon. Anthony Mackie is Captain America right now. There’s other stories to tell.

Chris Evans falls in love with Ana de Armas after just one date in the new trailer for the Apple TV+ romantic action-adventure film Ghosted. As a “grand romantic gesture,” he flies out to London to surprise her — only to find out she’s actually a secret agent.

The trailer for Apple TV's new film "Ghosted" is here, and it looks like another case of a big, splashy, blockbuster-type movie headed straight to the small screen. "Ghosted" stars former Marvel superstar Chris Evans and arguably even-bigger-right-now breakout star Ana de Armas, reuniting post-"Knives Out" for an action-packed rom-com. The movie comes from "Rocketman" director Dexter Fletcher, with a screenplay co-written by the screenwriting teams behind the "Deadpool" movies and recent "Spider-Man" trilogy.
That's a whole lot of star power, and the first trailer for "Ghosted" matches it with just as much firepower, as it features de Armas in gun-toting, badass CIA agent mode while Evans delivers some in-over-his-head everyman schtick. Before it unveils the spy-centric plot of the movie, which is a bit of a Trojan horse here, "Ghosted" offers up a meet-cute between Cole (Evans) and Sadie (de Armas), whom Cole thinks "might be the one.

A grand romantic gesture turns into a dangerous international adventure for Chris Evans and Ana de Armas in the trailer for Ghosted, released Monday.
The stars lead the Apple TV+ film centered on Cole (Evans) who, after having a date with Sadie (de Armas), is left confused when she ghosts him and doesn’t respond to his texts. “You got me kidnapped and tortured, all after one date,” Evans’ Cole tells de Armas’ Sadie as they run away from a car that just exploded.
“You’re the one who flew to London,” she tells him, only for him to reiterate, “It was a romantic gesture!

If you’re working in the new multiverse phase of the Marvel Cinematic universe, it’s indeed a juggling act and balancing it all has been screenwriter Michael Waldron.

What has made Peter Parker an enduring hero for the last sixty years is that he could be us. He is someone who has great highs and really low low, but strives to do right because that’s the way he was raised. As Peter he is bullied for being shy and withdrawn, for being smart, for not being popular. As Spider-Man, he is belittled, picked on, subjugated to immense criticism and faces impossible odds with regularity.
We root for him because he rarely gives up, always comes back for more, and always tries to make things right. When Peter’s (Tom Holland) secret identity was revealed in Spider-Man: Far from Home we knew this was going to be a new set of obstacles. Spider-Man: No Way Home opens with the world adjusting to the idea that this high school student is a super-hero or menace. We see its impact on him,...

“It’s a tough year and it keeps getting tougher!” declares visual effects maestro Kelly Port about the quality of films in contention this year for the Best Visual Effects at the Oscars, for which he is nominated for the second time in his career, this time for “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” “It seems like every year you look at the 10 films that had to be narrowed down to five and all were just excellent quality. When I think about it as an academy voter myself, you think,” me muses, “does it look good, does it fit in, is it consistent across the whole film? If it takes you out of the movie, that’s the worst thing that can happen for a visual effect.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Every “Spider-Man” fan has envisioned what it would be like if the three Peter Parkers that have graced movie screens around the world ever met. But for “Spider-Man: No Way Home” writers Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, actually writing that moment for a global blockbuster took a lot of attempts.
In an interview with IGN, Sommers and McKenna said the most challenging scene to write in “No Way Home” was the moment when the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, met his cinematic predecessors portrayed by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Of course, as MCU fans know by now, that meeting comes right after the biggest gut punch of Peter’s life when Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) died in his arms.

There’s been quite a bit of chatter about “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and its chances at Oscar gold given its excellent reviews and box office dominance that has defied a pandemic. But if the film really is a serious contender for Best Picture, why not its performance? There’s no denying that there are actors in the movie who are doing great work, whether or not you see it as “just” a superhero movie. [The Rest Of This Article Contains Spoilers]
First and foremost, you have to look at that performance by Tom Holland, which is probably some of the best work done by the 25-year-old in his young career thus far. There are seriously emotional moments in “No Way Home” that wouldn’t work if Holland weren’t able to sell them, especially the death of his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) and the decision to make everyone forget that Peter Parker existed. “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is currently rocketing up the box office charts, but in an alternate universe audiences only got a taste of what ended up being the primary plot of the film.
A major draw of the Tom Holland Spider-Man sequel was the return of iconic villains from past Spider-Man franchises like Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin from 2002’s “Spider-Man” and Jamie Foxx’s Electro from 2014’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” But in a recent interview with TheWrap, the film’s writers, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, said that the villains were initially only supposed to come back at the very end of the film, in the post-credits tag scene.
McKenna told TheWrap that once Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios struck a deal to reunite on a third “Spider-Man” movie, the only major story idea they had in place was that they were picking up after the events of “Spider-Man: Far From Home,...

It’s time to have a serious conversation about “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and what it can achieve at the Oscars this year.
Looking at the Oscars shortlists announced on Tuesday, the third chapter in the Tom Holland universe showed up in two categories — sound and visual effects — despite its late release.
Unlike most superhero pics, critical and audience opinion are aligned about the film. “No Way Home” also joined an elite club of only 91 movies to ever earn an A+ CinemaScore, and became the fourth live-action superhero movie to do so, after “The Avengers” (2012), “Black Panther” (2018) and “Avengers: Endgame” (2019).
I’ve never been a pundit who believes in “follow the money” to predict best picture nominees. But, especially in these last two years amid the pandemic, box office “failures” (whatever that means now) are even less of a hindrance for awards campaigns. Still, as exhibited by our favorite web-slinger,...

Now that Spider-Man: No Way Home has swung its way to theaters armed with an array of revelations, it’s practically unfathomable that collaborative companies Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios envisioned anything short of its stupendous scope. However, it appears that slimmer, multiverse-deprived ideas were originally planned for the threequel during a brief period of panic in which Spider-Man seemed destined to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Spider-Man: No Way Home successfully promoted its returning villainous ghosts of Spider-Man iterations past, and implicitly teased even more universe-shattering surprises, on which it delivered—we’ll just leave it at that. However, the conception of the health-crisis-era release’s fantastical plot occurred at the height of a different kind of crisis, in summer 2019, during which a spat over shared profits saw character licensee Sony withdraw Tom Holland’s Spider-Man from the MCU. While said crisis was resolved a month later, screenwriters Chris McKenna...

Two years ago, when Martin Scorsese called the Marvel Cinematic Universe something akin to a theme park, the comic book community—both its filmmakers and fans—became incensed. Despite the legendary director’s nuanced, even complimentary assessment, proprietary corners of the Internet gawked at his characterization and casual dismissal of them as non-cinematic blockbusters. But how else do you describe Marvel’s latest spandex attraction Spider-Man: No Way Home, a movie filled to the brim with a near half-dozen villains, multiple universes, and two decades of nostalgia? Much like some of the studio’s previous installments, this is a movie engineered to resemble a thrill ride, a greatest-hits carousel powered by fan service and corporate recycling. It practically embraces Marty’s designation—and that’s Ok. Despite their noted limitations, theme parks like this still offer plenty of fun.

Tom Holland returns for his third solo outing as everyone’s favourite web-slinger in the latest superhero adventure from Marvel Studios. It’s directed by Jon Watts, who also helmed the previous two MCU Spider-Man movies in the “Home” trilogy, Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019). It’s safe to say that Watts’ time in the director’s chair has been well spent, because this third film is an incredible achievement, pulling off narrative feats and action beats that are both amazing and spectacular.
Scripted by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers (who wrote Far From Home), Spider-Man: No Way Home gets off to a great start by delivering on the cliffhanger of the previous movie, with J. Jonah Jameson...

Multiverses can get messy, not just for superheroes but for filmmakers who dabble with them. Fortunately, writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers keep a firm grip on all their various plot webs as young Peter Parker (Tom Holland) - in the spotlight after his true identity has been revealed to the world - tries to cope with the everyday pressures of trying to get into the college of his choice.
A bid to 'reset' the world with a spot of magic goes awry - but not before Benedict Cumberbatch gets plenty of good one-liners as Doctor Strange - and an assortment of super-villains slip through into Peter's world.

The latest entry into the Marvel canon, Spider-Man: No Way Home, succeeds in regaining some of the traction for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) that was lost by Eternals. Leave it to the ever-dependable web crawler to right the ship and guide the MCU back on course.
Spider-Man’s latest adventure begins moments after Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) revealed Spidey’s true identity to the world at the end of Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019). This shatters Peter Parker’s world in more ways than simply making it impossible for him to be an effective hero; it continually puts his loved ones in peril. Seeking a redress of sorts, Peter approaches Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and asks for his help. Strange goes about casting a spell to make people forget that Peter Parker and Spider-Man are one and the same. However, Peter inadvertently corrupts the spell when he questions whether “everyone” needs...

Like so many, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers grew up loving Spider-Man — from the animated TV series to the action figures to, as they became adults, Sam Raimi’s live-action movies starring Tobey Maguire. But when the screenwriting team were recruited to work on 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” starring Tom Holland, roughly six weeks before production, their attention wasn’t on the web-slinger. It was on the film’s villain, Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton).
“I think everyone knew that the villain needed some help,” says Sommers. “We definitely worked on that quite a bit.”
Thankfully, McKenna and Sommers’ efforts on “Homecoming” ended up becoming a five-year odyssey with the friendly neighborhood web-slinger. They’re the sole credited screenwriters on 2019’s “Spider-Man: Far From Home” and the hotly anticipated “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which opens worldwide Dec. 17 and aims to bring at least this chapter of Peter’s journey to a close.

Well, Thanksgiving is almost upon us and that means that the holiday movie season is about to kick off. While it may not be as plentiful as it has been in years past, we are going to see a few high profile properties return to theaters. One of those is everyone’s favorite web slinger. Spider-Man returns in his latest adventure Spider-Man: No Way Home this December and the official trailer has just been released. Let’s take a look!
Premise: For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and is no longer able to keep his normal life separate from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks Doctor Strange for help, the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.
Our take: I am tempted to simply write “Wow!” here...
