On the way from Yoshimoto Kogyo and People of Culture Studios is a zombie mockumentary titled Among the Dead, and Variety brings us the first word about the project this week.
Among the Dead is set to be a found footage film.
Variety details, “Its story is set as the world finds its equilibrium after an undead apocalypse. One emotionally unstable man abandons his friends and family to go live among the last remaining zombies before they are all gone. He hopes to better understand the zombies and document their final days, but his efforts become a document of his final days instead.”
Andrew Cosby wrote the script.
Wada Ryoichi (“Ghost in the Box”) will be producing Among the Dead.

People of Culture Studios, a company where Andrew Cosby – co-creator of the Syfy series Eureka, serves as chief creative officer, is teaming up with Japanese talent agency Yoshimoto Kogyo to produce and finance a found footage zombie mockumentary called Among the Dead. Cosby is producing the film alongside Wada Ryoichi, whose stage play Ghost in the Box is credited for inspiring the Japanese zombie comedy One Cut of the Dead (which was recently remade as the French film Final Cut).
Variety reports that Among the Dead begins as the world finds its equilibrium after an undead apocalypse. One emotionally unstable man abandons his friends and family to go live among the last remaining zombies before they are all gone. He hopes to better understand the zombies and document their final days, but his efforts become a document of his final days instead.
Cosby wrote the screenplay with Patrick Hasson and Juan Carlos Saizarbitoria.

In this edition of The Silver Lining, we’ll be covering Neil Marshall’s ill-fated comic-book adaptation, Hellboy.
From Sin City to Umbrella Academy, Dark Horse Comics has always lived up to its name by betting on oddball titles and unusual creators. While there’s no shortage of iconic characters that were first introduced in the pages of Dhc, I’d argue that one of their most recognizable contributions to popular culture would have to be Mike Mignola’s Hellboy. A paranormal investigator that also happens to be a grumpy demon, the horned face of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense became a respected figure in the world of independent comics.
And with Blade and X-Men kicking off a comic-book movie boom back in the late 90s/early 2000s, it makes sense that Hollywood would eventually bring Hellboy to the big screen with a couple of adaptations helmed by Guillermo Del Toro.

Scroll down to see the complete list of winners, and watch the announcement above.
The musical “Cats” was adapted by Oscar winner Tom Hooper from the Tony Award-winning Broadway show, but its visuals creeped out critics and scared away audiences. The Razzie Awards ceremony, the Golden Raspberry Foundation’s annual skewering of the worst in cinema, was scheduled for tonight at the Barnsdall Theatre in Los Angeles. But the event is either “cancelled/postponed,” according to a statement from the producers.
The reason? “Because the Mayor of Los Angeles shut down all city-owned venues where more than 50 people could gather, including our site, The Barnsdall Theatre,” said the statement from John Wilson, co-founder of the awards. “Without a hall, we could not proceed with the show. But we are hoping to have something to disseminate by tonight – Perhaps even by what had been our original “curtain time” of 8 p.m. tonight. Obviously, if there is no live show, there is nothing to be streamed, either.”

The feline musical, based on the Andrew Lloyd Webber stage production, was not greeted nearly as well on the big screen as it was on Broadway, where it won seven Tonys including Best Musical for its original run. Despite its strong pedigree (including direction by “The King’s Speech” Oscar winner Tom Hooper), the film’s unsettling character design was greeted with bafflement at the first sign of the trailer, and then the film was released in December to negative reviews and poor box office.

Blizzard has let slip that there are Overwatch and Diablo animated series on the way.
Two of Blizzard's biggest franchises, Overwatch and Diablo, could be getting the animated series treatment, according to information revealed by Nick Van Dyk, the president of Activision Blizzard Studios, on LinkedIn. On his resume, Dyk confirmed that he worked on both animated series -- an Overwatch cartoon and a Diablo anime, the latter of which is in pre-production and will be distributed worldwide by Netflix. This news was first reported by IGN.
This isn't the first time we've heard that a Diablo animated series is in the works. In 2018, Boom! Studios founder Andrew Cosby posted and then deleted an announcement on Twitter that he was in talks with Netflix to make a Diablo series. The Razzie nominations are out and Cats, A Madea Family Funeral, and Rambo: Last Blood cleaned up.
The Golden Raspberry Foundation announced its picks for 2019’s worst achievements in film, a day before the Academy Awards honor the industry’s best.
Cats, which the Razzie folks described as a “widely derided feline flop,” picked up eight nods. A Madea Family Funeral and Rambo: Last Blood also received eight nominations. All three films landed in the worst picture category.
Tyler Perry, who wrote, produced, directed and played four roles in A Madea Family Funeral, received multiple nods — worst screenplay, worst actress, worst screen combo, and two worst supporting actor nominations.
The Razzie Award winners are usually announced the day before the Oscars. But according to the Golden Raspberry Foundation, the schedule was changed this year due to the Oscar ceremony being moved up. The Razzie Awards date will be announced later.

You knew this was coming. The 40th annual Golden Raspberry Awards dishonored the cinematic feline felony known as”Cats” with eight nominations, including one for no less than Dame Judi Dench herself. In fact, the organization even felt the need to describe her Old Deuteronomy as looking suspiciously similar to the Cowardly Lion from “The Wizard of Oz.” Somewhere, Bert Lahr is crying.
But incredibly, there were two other 2019 releases that proved egregious enough to also be pelted with eight nominations: Sylvester Stallone‘s “Rambo: Last Blood” and Tyler Perry‘s 12th and purportedly last appearance in a wig and dress, “A Medea Family Funeral.”
As per usual, the competitors for disgraced excellence were announced on the eve of the Academy Awards, which airs live on ABC on Sunday. The cheeky Razzies also had the nerve to slap around two other Oscars winners besides Dame Judi: Anne Hathaway, up for both “The Hustle” and “Serenity,...

Tom Hooper’s movie musical “Cats,” Sylvester Stallone’s “Rambo: Last Blood,” and Tyler Perry’s “A Madea Family Funeral” topped this year’s nominations list for the worst movies and performances of 2019, scoring eight nominations a piece.
Other “honorees” on this year’s list include the remake of “Hellboy” starring David Harbour, John Travolta in the thriller “The Fanatic” and the James Franco-directed period drama “Zeroville.”
The Razzies are now in their 40th year, and the group typically announces its nominees a day ahead of the Oscar nominations. But with the Oscars moving to its earliest date ever, it also pushed back the Razzies, which are only just announcing the nominees list. The awards ceremony for the winners will be announced at a later date.

Since Mike Mignola created Hellboy in 1993, he has been a fan favorite character, growing his own mini-universe of characters and spinoff series. Mainstream audiences certainly got to know him in a pair of features from director Guillermo Del Toro, who put his own spin on the world. Over the last decade, Del Toro and star Ron Perlman talked about a third film but one thing or another kept getting in the way. Then, Boom! founder Andrew Cosby and Mignola got to work on a script and Del Toro walked, followed by Perlman so it morphed into a full-fledged reboot.
Did we need a reboot? No. Did we need this film at all? Probably not and the poor box office has shut the doorway to Hell for subsequent installments. Perhaps he works best in print with Mignola being the sole voice.

Warner Bros.’ “Shazam!” is powering its way to a super second weekend, retaining its No. 1 spot at the box office with an estimated $22 million.
Meanwhile, Lionsgate’s remake of “Hellboy” is getting scorched, with just $12 million estimated from 3,303 domestic locations in its debut weekend. That number would place it at No. 3 after Universal’s body-swap comedy “Little,” with about $15 million.
“Shazam!” has so far generated $76 million domestically for WB and New Line, with another $126 million overseas. David F. Sandberg directed the film, which stars Zachary Levi as the titular superhero.
The third “Hellboy” adaptation is coming in below earlier projections, which had placed it in the $16 million to $20 million range. The film, starring “Stranger Things'” David Harbour in the titular role, took in $4.93 million on Friday. It cost about $50 million to produce, so if estimates hold, “Hellboy’s” start could look ominous.

Hellboy, formerly known as Hellboy: The Blood Queen, is directed by Game of Thrones alumni and Dog Soldiers director Neil Marshall. It stands as a complete reboot of the franchise after Guillermo del Toro’s cult classic duology that failed to light the box office with disappointing returns. Gone is Ron Perlman as the titular character and replacing the iconic actor is Stranger Things star David Harbour, so at least it has that going for it, right?
This reboot of Hellboy is lifeless and soulless. The acting, from newcomer to the franchise, Sasha Lane is dreadful; meanwhile star David Harbour fails to bring any form of charisma or charm for a character that should be the epitome of sarcasm.

There’s no getting around the fact that Lionsgate did Guillermo del Toro dirty by not extending him an invitation to complete his Hellboy vision with a third film. Whether their decision was due to whatever rubric used to measure the franchise’s success (that they’d willingly reboot the property so soon shows it was viable enough) or creator Mike Mignola wanting to bring things back to where he thought they should be (as was floated around), they turned their back on a soon-to-be Oscar-winning director and thus their star actor Ron Perlman too. This meant a new origin was the only avenue to travel since there would be no reason to continue a story without its storytellers. And with Neil Marshall at the helm, gore could be king.
That’s the real draw here: an R-rating. While del Toro’s films weren’t anywhere near family-friendly fare, they...

Neil Marshall's 2019 Hellboy reboot certainly isn't a perfect movie, as we discussed in detail in our (generous) two-star review, and reports have suggested there were problems behind the scenes, too. But, with this being the age of superhero cinematic universes, it shouldn't come as any surprise that this flawed film comes with two post-credits scenes that aim to set up a sequel.
Even before the credits roll, in fact, the movie makes a lot of effort to tease the future. After the main narrative of the film concludes, we jump forward in time to see David Harbour's Hellboy on another B.P.R.D. mission with Daniel Dae Kim's Ben (who...

Chicago – The latest film reboot is “Hellboy,” and it cruises based on the viability and popularity of its title character. David Harbour takes the reins from Ron Perlman in portraying the demon, and although it’s bogged down by the story, the latest iteration works because the character is so weirdly appealing.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Hellboy began in August of 1993 through Dark Horse comics, and was eventually rendered to film in 2004 (written and directed by Guillermo Del Toro). The character became a cult hit, and produced a film sequel, animated films and video game appearances. The appeal of course is that he’s spawned from one of Satan’s minions, has an amazingly bizarre look, is a drunken rebel and spouts one liners straight out of the Bruce Willis school. He basically is what every post collegiate boy wants to be. This particular film – written by Andrew Cosby and directed by Neil Marshall...

Neil Marshall’s reboot of Hellboy is a far cry from Guillermo del Toro’s 2004 adaptation of Mike Mignola’s cult comic-book creation, first published in the eponymous Dark Horse Comics. The project which began life as a sequel to Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008), soon came into difficulties when it was announced that del Toro would no longer be involved in writing or directing it. This was soon followed by Ron Perlman’s refusal to reprise his starring role out of loyalty for the director.
Starring David Harbour, Mila Jovovich and Ian McShane, the film offers a decidedly predictable origins story which strays too far from the ethos of the original films to be anything but a watchable, yet instantly forgettable reimagining of a much-loved tale.
The film opens with a pre-credit sequence which takes place during the Middle Ages where powerful witch Nimue (Jovovich) has unleashed a deadly plague on England.

The dehorned battler is reconfigured into a franchise figurehead – and loses all his devilish excitement
Hellboy is reborn, stridently repurposed as an ongoing franchise property – minus the cigar for these health-conscious times, but also minus the wit and the exotic strangeness and the beauty-and-the-beast romance that Guillermo del Toro once gave him.
De Toro served as writer-director of the two original live-action films based on the Mike Mignola graphic novel character – Hellboy (2004) and Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008) – which starred Ron Perlman. Now it is directed by Neil Marshall, Andrew Cosby writes and David Harbour (from TV’s Stranger Things) takes over the role of Hellboy – that tandoori-red creature with the sawn-off horns, born of a Nazi occult ceremony in 1944 but brought over to the forces of light by a top-secret organisation and recruited to battle the satanic armies of evil.

Neil Marshall’s Hellboy has faced immeasurable apprehension since satanic conception, as Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman’s defenders voiced outrage upon hearing Lionsgate’s decision to reboot Big Red anew versus honoring continuation after Hellboy II: The Golden Army. After all, why start over when del Toro’s expansive man-vs-monster wonderland has chapters collecting dust on a shelf?
One word: “darker.”
Hellboy creator Mike Mignola assured us this new take would be “darker” and more attuned to horror grimness. Writer Andrew Cosby also promised a “darker” and more gruesome beginning. Newly appointed “Right Hand Of Doom” David Harbour promoted a “bloody and brutal” endgame as well. To fans of Hellboy’s mature illustrated content, to moviegoers thirsting for meaner comic book adaptations, Lionsgate’s marketing campaign buzzed all the right words – which makes this tonally disastrous and misrepresented R-rated mess doubly disappointing.

In the sea of modern superhero movies, Hellboy has unique appeal. Mike Mignola’s Dark Horse comic book creation, a hard-drinking demon spawn who protects innocents from supernatural threats, could have been a gothic punchline on the big screen; instead, the notion of a devilish monster with good intentions came to vivid life in Guillermo del Toro’s imaginative 2004 movie and its sequel, with Ron Perlman’s smarmy red-faced investigator giving the actor his finest creation. So much about “Hellboy” worked that director Neil Marshall’s reboot doesn’t focus on changing the formula so much as burying the rough edges in ample R-rated gore, while maintaining the underlying glee.
A bloodier, sillier remix of the earlier entries in this unlikely franchise, “Hellboy” swaps Perlman for “Stranger Things” detective David Harbour, whose large frame and snarky posturing on that show was basically a Ron Perlman homage, anyway. Harbour makes for...

David Harbour is great in the Hellboy reboot, but the rest of the movie should return to the hell that spawned it.
Imagine, if the Hellboy movie of 2004 wasn’t the very good one directed by Guillermo del Toro that spawned an even better sequel a few years later. Instead, imagine if Hellboy 2004 was more akin to other action-horror movies of its time, perhaps directed by Len Wiseman or Paul W.S. Anderson or, even more appropriately, if Stephen Norrington had taken on Hellboy as his next project after the reviled League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
In such an alternate universe, the Hellboy of 2004 would be indistinguishable from the Hellboy of 2019: a soulless, noisy, mess of a movie that has far more in common with lesser Underworld or Resident Evil sequels than it does with the works of Guillermo del Toro or Mike Mignola. Just days away from the Neil Marshall-directed and Andrew Cosby-written R-rated Hellboy reboot hitting theaters, star Daniel Dae Kim is saying he's "grateful" to the film's producers and director Neil Marshall for recasting his character, Ben Daimio, with an Asian-American actor.
The role of the rugged Japanese-American agent who teams up with Stranger Things star David Harbour's Hellboy to stop an ancient sorceress (Milla Jovovich) and her apocalyptic plans had originally gone to the white English actor Ed Skrein. While four films are set to release wide this weekend, the big showdown will be between comic book films, as “Shazam!” goes up against Lionsgate’s gory, R-rated reboot of “Hellboy.”
The “Shazam!” showdown against “Hellboy” comes after the DC superhero film’s $56.8 million domestic launch. However, while the Warner Bros./New Line film had strong critical and audience reception coming off of the weekend, Monday’s box office numbers were lower than expected for such a well-received film, with just $3 million grossed. While those numbers may have been weighed down by the broadcast of the Ncaa basketball championship, Exhibitor Relations analyst Jeff Bock says it makes him wonder whether the good word-of-mouth for the DC blockbuster is really spreading to other audiences.

Lionsgate has unveiled the final trailer for “Hellboy,” Neil Marshall’s reboot of the comic-book series first brought to the silver screen by Guillermo del Toro. Replacing Ron Perlman as the eponymous Cambion is “Stranger Things” star David Harbour, with Milla Jovovich and Ian McShane co-starring in this take on the “Darkness Calls,” “The Wild Hunt,” and “The Storm and the Fury” storylines. Watch the trailer below.
The project wasn’t exactly riding a wave of goodwill when it was first announced, as fans of del Toro’s first two entries in the series — not to mention everyone involved with making 2004’s “Hellboy” and 2008’s “The Golden Army” — have long wanted the Oscar winner to complete his own trilogy. Marshall is no slouch, however, having previously directed “The Descent” and two acclaimed “Game of Thrones” episodes: “Blackwater” and “The Watchers on the Wall,” the latter of which earned him an Emmy nomination.

After officially receiving it's "R" rating earlier this week, we have the brand new red band trailer for Hellboy, which gives us a much better feel for the movie's tone than we got from the first footage last year.
Neil Marshall directed the new Hellboy movie from a screenplay co-written by Christopher Golden, Andrew Cosby, and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola. Larry Gordon, Lloyd Levin, and Dark Horse Entertainment's Mike Richardson produced the project.
In addition to Harbour in the title role, the new Hellboy movie co-stars Milla Jovovich as villainous sorceress known as the Blood Queen, with Ian McShane in the role of Professor Broom and Daniel Dae Kim playing Ben Daimio.
The new film is completely separate from 2004's Hellboy and 2008's Hellboy II: The Golden Army, which were directed by Guillermo del Toro and starred Ron Perlman in the titular role.

Following two Hellboy movies from Guillermo del Toro, the demonic but heroic comic book character is getting a cinematic reboot with more involvement from creator Mike Mignola this time around. Titled Hellboy, this version will feature a much darker tone and is expected to hit theaters in just a few months. While we wait for it to hit theaters, here's a recap of everything we know about the movie: Who is taking over the property from del Toro? Neil Marshall, who you may know from the horror movie The Descent and episodes of Game of Thrones, is directing the reboot, which is aiming for an R-rating, from a script by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola along with Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Aron Coleite. The hype is real for David Harbour’s “Hellboy,” and Entertainment Weekly has published a new image of the star in action.
In the first-look, a very ripped Hellboy is standing on the street alongside Sasha Lane (as Alice Monaghan) and Daniel Dae Kim (as Major Ben Daimio). Whether they are getting ready to engage with an enemy or are just staring at something is unclear. But either way, Hellboy looks pissed.
“It’s not an origin story, but it’s his coming to terms with where he came from,” Harbour told EW. “He’s been Hellboy for a long time, but there’s a new turn of events at the start of the film, where people start to bring up the fact that he might bring about the end of the world, and it’s really the first time he’s heard anything like that. While Hellboy fans are accustomed to seeing Ron Perlman play the titular character, David Harbour will don the sawed-off horns in the upcoming reboot directed by Neil Marshall. Ahead of the movie's expected release on April 12th, 2019, a new image from the film has been unveiled by Empire that gives fans a close look at Harbour's take on the iconic character.
Marshall is directing the new Hellboy movie from a screenplay co-written by Christopher Golden, Andrew Cosby, and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola. Larry Gordon, Lloyd Levin, and Dark Horse Entertainment's Mike Richardson are producing the project.
In addition to Harbour in the title role, the new Hellboy movie will co-star Milla Jovovich as villainous sorceress known as the Blood Queen, with Ian McShane in the role of Professor Broom and Daniel Dae Kim playing Ben Daimio.
The new film is completely separate from 2004's Hellboy and 2008's Hellboy II: The Golden Army,...

This is the 25th anniversary of Mike Mignola’s first Hellboy comic book and, unlike the work-for-hire creators of Batman, Iron Man, the X-Men and most other comics properties, he actually owns his creation. On Saturday, the writer-artist and his scarlet-hued brainchild will step into the spotlight at New York Comic Con for a panel promoting their latest Hollywood adventure, the upcoming Hellboy film from Summit Entertainment.
The April 2019 theatrical release from Liongate’s Summit will be the third Hollywood adaptation of Mignola’s demonic do-gooder but, oddly, it will be the second of them to be released with that single-word title. Mignola tells Deadline he was initially caught off guard by the choice but then came to see value within its symbolism. With a new star, new director,...
