Whispers and rumors have now solidified into something more tangible. Fans of the reimagined Hellraiser can allow themselves a cautious sigh of relief; the gears are in motion for a sequel to last year’s dark and twisted revival. David Bruckner, who directed the 2022 film, is already in discussions about the next chapter in this iconic horror saga. Keith Levine’s recent comments illuminate the current state of affairs. Yeah. We are trying to do a follow-up and there have been conversations. I can’t exactly say where we’re at in those conversations, but Bruckner is involved in those conversations and we

A decade ago, director David Bruckner made a valiant attempt to get a new Friday the 13th film into production… it just didn’t happen. Years later, he did manage to reboot the Hellraiser franchise, with his version of Hellraiser getting released through the Hulu streaming service back in October of 2022. Surprisingly, a year and a half has gone by since that release and we haven’t heard anything about the possibility of a follow-up – until now. During a chat with ComicBook.com, producer Keith Levine confirmed that they are having conversations about making a Hellraiser sequel.
Levine said, “We are trying to do a follow-up and there have been conversations. I can’t exactly say where we’re at in those conversations, but Bruckner is involved in those conversations and we spent a lot of time and energy, I think relaunching that world. A lot of brainpower going into crafting the Cenobite design,...

Two years ago, director David Bruckner had such sights to show us with Hellraiser, a direct-to-Hulu horror movie that reimagined Clive Barker’s iconic horror franchise. The film debuted on Hulu in October 2022, starring Jamie Clayton as a brand new Hell Priest.
Was Bruckner’s Hellraiser a success for Hulu? And will we be getting more new installments in the film franchise? According to producer Keith Levine, Hellraiser 2 is indeed in the works!
Levine tells ComicBook.com in a brand new chat, “We are trying to do a follow-up and there have been conversations. I can’t exactly say where we’re at in those conversations, but [David] Bruckner is involved in those conversations.”
“We spent a lot of time and energy relaunching that world,” Levine continues. “A lot of brainpower going into crafting the Cenobite design, figuring out how we’re going to pull them off, and we learned so much.

Horror fans will know that Hellraiser is one of the most recognizable genre franchises in history. The original movie premiered in 1987, and since then, a total of eleven movies have been made, and it seems that a 12th one is on its way. In 2022, Hulu rebooted the Hellraiser franchise with a movie that became a critical and commercial success. Building on these positive waves, the producers expressed their desire to make a sequel, but it wasn’t until March 2024 that we received confirmation that a sequel is, indeed, in the works.
Hellraiser producer Keith Levine sat down for a talk with ComicBook.com’s Jamie Jiark, and he revealed more information about the highly-anticipated sequel that brought something new to the franchise but was also praised for remaining true to the original story. Of course, the interview was focused on his upcoming film, The First Omen, but Hellraiser was – of course – also mentioned.

David Bruckner – who previously remade Hellraiser – is to write and direct a new take on The Blob for Warner Bros.
Over 60 years after a bunch of devout Christians changed cinema history by making The Blob, there’s a new take on the oozing sci-fi horror classic in the works at Warner Bros.
As first reported by The Wrap, the remake will be written and directed by David Bruckner, who previously made the 2022 remake of Clive Barker’s Hellraiser and, among other things, The Night House (2020) and The Ritual (2017).
Like Hellraiser and The Night House, the new Blob will be produced by David S Goyer and Keith Levine via their company, Phantom Four Productions. The Wrap also reports that Judith Harris – widow of Jack H Harris, the film distributor who brought the 1958 and 1988 versions of the movie to the screen – will be credited as executive producer.

2023 did not lack for good-to-great original horror movies. You can't hate a year that gave us "When Evil Lurks," "Skinamarink," "Talk to Me" and "M3GAN" (among several others). So who cares if Hollywood persists in remaking horror classics, even if it's already been remade (and remade well)?
Irvin Yeaworth's 1958 "The Blob" is hardly a sacred text. It's an effective monster movie that gets surprisingly decent mileage out of its gelatinous, slow-moving creature. Yeaworth tries the viewer's patience by trying to shoehorn in a rebellious teen storyline (which was the rage at the time thanks to hit films like "Rebel Without a Cause"), though who could blame him with first-time leading man Steve McQueen doing the rebelling? All that matters is that he sticks the landing with a fun, movie-theater-set finale. The awful 1972 sequel, "Beware! The Blob," is notable for being the only feature directed by Larry Hagman, who would later...

A brand new take on The Blob is taking shape at Warner Bros. Discovery, and The Wrap reports tonight that David Bruckner is on board to both write and direct the reimagining of the classic horror story.
The Wrap notes in their exclusive report tonight, “Plot details about the reimagining are being kept under wraps. The original 1958 The Blob tells the story of an amorphous alien lifeform that descends upon a rural Pennsylvania town and begins consuming anyone it comes into contact with. The alien, an expanding mass of red gelatinous material, grows as it eats and is strong enough to pull human victims into itself from all directions.”
David Goyer and Keith Levine of Phantom Four are attached to produce David Bruckner’s fresh new take on The Blob, with Judith Harris serving as executive producer.

According to The Wrap, David Bruckner has signed on to write and direct a remake of The Blob for Warner Bros. Discovery.
The original 1958 movie starred a young Steve McQueen, in his first leading role, and revolved around a carnivorous amoeboidal alien that crashed in a small Pennsylvania town and began consuming everyone and everything in its path. Plot details for this latest remake of The Blob remain under wraps, but… I’m sure you can use your imagination.
The original film was followed by a 1972 sequel, Beware! The Blob, directed by Larry Hagman of all people. Chuck Russell directed the first remake of The Blob in 1988, which featured much more gruesome effects. Although it was a box office failure at the time, the film has developed a strong following.

If the above image doesn’t make it abundantly clear, director Scott Derrickson brings a rather bloody, violent segment to V/H/S/85 with “Dreamkill.”
Derrickson, who needs no introduction, recently directed the horror blockbuster The Black Phone for Blumhouse and previously helmed horror favorites like The Exorcism of Emily Rose. With “Dreamkill,” Derrickson and writing partner C. Robert Cargill evoke the gritty horror of their nightmarish feature Sinister. It fits right at home with the grainy textured horrors packaged in V/H/S/85, one of the most cohesive installments of the popular anthology franchise yet.
That’s not a surprise to the director, who spoke with Bloody Disgusting about V/H/S/85 after the film’s Fantastic Fest debut.
“I think it’s inevitable that the film as a whole would come out looking the way that it does because you’re talking about VHS materials at the very early stages of its consumer usage,...

The “V/H/S” franchise was already on death’s door by the time Shudder resurrected it as an annual streaming event in 2021. So it would be inaccurate to blame the warmed-over familiarity of its sixth installment on the fact that Bloody Disgusting has to churn out another feature-length omnibus every October — especially because the freshest and most satisfying of the five shorts that make up “V/H/S/85” comes from series producer David Bruckner, who should be more burned out on the concept than anyone else at this point. Nevertheless, the “Now That’s What I Call Found Footage!”-ification of these horror anthologies has inevitably confronted them with a degree of saminess, an ironic symptom of a process that leaves precious little time for quality control.

V/H/S/85, the latest entry in the found footage horror anthology V/H/S/ franchise, will begin streaming on Shudder service (which previously had great success with V/H/S/94 and V/H/S/99) tomorrow, October 6th. This one consists of segments that were directed by David Bruckner (Hellraiser 2022), Scott Derrickson (The Black Phone), Gigi Saul Guerrero (Bingo Hell), Natasha Kermani (Lucky), and Mike P. Nelson (the Wrong Turn reboot) – and during an interview with ComicBook.com, Derrickson revealed that his segment is set in the same universe as The Black Phone! It even includes references to some Black Phone characters…
Derrickson said, “Oh, there’s actually a universe crossover in there, which I guess I made it too subtle because nobody’s picking it up. But James Ransone tells Detective Wayne, when he’s behind the glass, he was talking about Gunther. He says, ‘He has these dreams that are prophetic.’ And he says, ‘My sister had the same gift.

Plot: Unveiled through a made-for-tv documentary, five tales of found footage horror emerge to take viewers on a terrifying journey into the grim underbelly of the 1980s.
Review: Found footage has never been my bag but I always try to give it a fair shot. It can often feel very limiting to tell a believable story when confined to a device like that. But over the years there have been films that have proven me wrong. While not every segment of the VHS series hits, the one’s that do show the heights you can reach within the subgenre. So it’s easy to get excited whenever a new VHS entry is announced. It’s even more exciting when the creative team behind it are some of the hottest writers and directors in all of horror. So it’s understandably a bit disappointing that this one is simply decent.

Shudder, Studio71, Cinepocalypse & Bloody Disgusting are this time rewinding all the way back to the 1980s with V/H/S/85, which will have its World Premiere at this year’s Fantastic Fest, in Austin, Texas (September 21 – 28).
“The iconic found footage series returns with an array of explosive, bloody scares set in a decade obsessed with serial killers and the Satanic Panic,” writes Fantastic Fest of the film which says goodbye to the nostalgic neon lights and hello to the grit and grime of the ’80s.
V/H/S/85 joins our growing franchise that now consists of several films, including V/H/S, V/H/S/2, V/H/S: Viral, V/H/S/94, V/H/S/99, and the spinoff feature SiREN.
Here are the directors who took part in 85…
The only legacy filmmaker is David Bruckner, who will be spearheading the latest entry. Bruckner directed the “Amateur Night” segment of the first V/H/S which featured the breakout performance of Hannah Fierman as a succubus.

The Hellraiser (2022) episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Adam Walton, Edited by Juan Jimenez, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Seemingly all the major slashers have had their remakes from Freddy Krueger to Leatherface to Jason Voorhees to Harry Warden, even Black Christmas and Prom Night have had remakes. For years, the world of horror had been working on bringing a remake of Hellraiser to the screen, one that fans would love, one that would be more extreme than the original, something even Clive Barker had a go at. Somehow, all the remakes seemed to have false starts by getting announced and then disappearing. Then, the Hulu reboot happened, completely different from the original, yet in the same spirit as the novella.

Danger, not safety, comes with the act of conforming in The Woods. In Lucky McKee’s sophomore film, a troubled teenager is sent away because of her disruptive behavior. Asking questions, going against norms and not abiding by the rules, however, are ultimately what saves her from an early death.
This 2006 film is indeed set in 1965 New England, but the story’s central message is timeless. When first meeting the rebellious Heather Fasulo (Agnes Bruckner), the teen is en route to a remote boarding school for young women. Her parents are visibly split on the matter; the prim Mrs. Fasulo (Emma Campbell) thinks Falburn Academy will straighten out her daughter after a small incident of arson, whereas the reluctant Mr. Fasulo (Bruce Campbell) bites his tongue.
When first walking down the halls of Falburn Academy, only the audience seems to notice the overgrowth of vines everywhere. This old structure sits...

A young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.
Ever since first seeing The Ritual back in 2017, it’s been crystal clear to me that filmmaker David Bruckner is one of the best of our time. His horror films are legitimately terrifying and manage to tackle themes such as grief, loss, and trauma in shockingly powerful ways. My favourite film of 2021 was The Night House, directed by Bruckner masterfully. On the surface, it’s essentially a creepy movie about a woman who may or may not be dealing with some paranormal, otherworldly stuff in her complexly designed house, but underneath it all, it’s really a...

Back in July of 2021, it was announced that V/H/S and Southbound filmmakers Roxanne Benjamin and David Bruckner were teaming up again for the survival thriller Fall Into Darkness, a remake of the 2014 Spanish-language film La Cueva. Benjamin would be directing the film, working from a screenplay Bruckner wrote with Nick Tecosky. Nell Tiger Free (Servant), Thomas Doherty (Legacies), and Lorenza Izzo (The Green Inferno) were all signed on to star. Filming was expected to begin at Lantica’s Pinewood Studios in the Dominican Republic in the fall of ’21. But Fall Into Darkness never went into production. And during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Free theorized that it fell apart due to the pandemic.
When asked for a status update on the project, Free replied, “I think Fall Into Darkness became a victim to Covid. You know how things were. There were so many beautiful projects that were potentially going to happen,...

I'm not sure what ritual sacrifice happened to gift us with such a phenomenal year of horror films, but scary movie fans feasted on some delicious frights throughout 2022. From the madcap twists in "Orphan: First Kill" to the moving cannibalistic romance in "Bones and All," horror fans were treated to a gore-filled buffet of murder, monsters, and bloody motivations. Even the Marvel Cinematic Universe got into the spooky season, releasing their fantastic Halloween special and loving ode to Universal Horror films, "Werewolf By Night."
But I'm not here to rank the year's best horror films: I'm here to see who is the baddest b***h in 2022. To make my list, the villain in question has to have more than brute strength, a mask, and a knife. Catchphrases are cute, but what these villains need to possess (and represent) is an enduringly terrifying idea. What's harrowing on-screen must creep off-screen, seeding...

During the 31 days of Halloween, Shudder has a spooky lineup of frights for any horror fan and we recommend two movies for these chilly October nights.
Following the success of last year’s hit V/H/S/94 comes this year’s V/H/S/99.
V/H/S/99, which debuted at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, premiered on Shudder on Thursday, October 20. The film features five new stories from filmmakers Maggie Levin (Into The Dark: My Valentine), Johannes Roberts, Flying Lotus (Kuso), Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy Girls) and Joseph & Vanessa Winter (Deadstream).
V/H/S/99 harkens back to the final punk rock analog days of VHS, while taking one giant leap forward into the hellish new millennium.

V/H/S/94 debuted to rave reviews from film critics, with The New York Times calling the film “a grisly, gory gem,” and a 90 certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. V/H/S/94 was the biggest movie premiere in Shudder history, setting a...

Back in early 2014, it was announced that David Bruckner – who had previously directed segments of The Signal (2007) and V/H/S/ – had signed on to direct a new Friday the 13th film. Bruckner was attached to the project through two different approaches. At one point, he was working with The Autopsy of Jane Doe screenwriters Richard Naing and Ian B. Goldberg to develop a found footage Friday the 13th movie. When the found footage angle was dropped, he worked with Channel Zero creator Nick Antosca on a script that had a heavy focus on character and was supposed to be packed with ’80s songs. Dazed and Confused was a source of inspiration for that one. At the end of 2015, Bruckner moved on from Friday the 13th. He has gone on to direct The Ritual, The Night House, and the new Hellraiser movie (read our review Here)… and now, he doesn...

Halloween. Scream. Hellraiser. Legacy horror franchises – properties whose origins reach back decades – have returned in a big way, with the three mentioned above and others all part of a wave of reboots, sequels, prequels, and reimaginings (feel free to add your own buzzword) that are either reinvigorating somewhat dusty titles for new generations of fans or putting the final nail in their crusty old coffins.
The reason for this is clear: if you think Hollywood craved proven IP (that’s intellectual property to us plebs) before the pandemic, the major studios are even more desperate to scarf up and regurgitate as much of it now as possible in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic nearly killing the theatrical movie business altogether and still leaving it on shaky ground.

Hellraiser (1987) casts a long shadow over the horror world. The original film, directed by Clive Barker, is a remarkably faithful adaptation of his own novella “The Hellbound Heart,” a twisted love story of forbidden passion and pain. The hotly anticipated reboot from director David Bruckner stars Jaime Clayton as the Priest and Odessa A’zion as new final girl, Riley. A recovering addict, Riley stumbles upon the Lament Configuration and finds herself dragged into the world of its painful magic.
Also drawn to the box is Roland Voight (Goran Visnjic), a wealthy entrepreneur obsessed with the power of the occult. On the surface, Bruckner’s new vision of the story bears only symbolic resemblance to Barker’s original novella The Hellbound Heart, but upon closer examination there are several thematic connections lurking just beneath the skin.
A Passage to Leviathan
We are first introduced to the “Hellraiser” lore through an ornately carved golden box.

Director David Bruckner is on a roll. After helming the critically lauded haunter "Night House," starring the spectacular Rebecca Hall as a widow discovering a dark secret, Bruckner is currently enjoying the overwhelmingly positive reviews for "Hellraiser" on Hulu, his re-introduction to Clive Barker's perversely alluring universe. With the newly announced "V/H/S/85," he's also returning to the found footage anthology franchise that helped make him a writer and director to watch. After the success of the first "V/H/S" in 2012, Bruckner was approached by Paramount with the edict of creating a new "Friday the 13th" movie that embraced the found footage trope.

Hulu’s Hellraiser, a reimagining of Clive Barker’s 1987 horror classic from director David Bruckner, is available now exclusively on Hulu.
In the new Hellraiser movie from Hulu, “A young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.”
The film summons forth a new batch of Cenobites, led by Jamie Clayton’s Hell Priest. Bloody Disgusting spoke with the actors behind The Chatterer (Jason Liles), The Gasp (Selina Lo), and The Weeper (Yinka Olorunnife) about getting into character and how the makeup and prosthetics informed their performances.
The hierarchy and lore behind the new batch of Cenobites isn’t something explicitly discussed in Hellraiser but rather hinted at through the performances and interactions between them. The trio’s answers to our questions provided fascinating insight into their roles.

Recreating the nightmarish visions of Clive Barker’s “Hellraiser” was always going to be a mammoth task. “It’s the top tier of both the most rewarding dream job and the hardest thing we’ve ever had to do,” recalled Josh Russell, the special makeup effects supervisor on Hulu’s remake of the 1987 horror classic. “This was the biggest creature effects movie shooting anywhere in the world at the time.”
A significant factor in the new film’s success or failure was the creation of the hellish Cenobites, whose leader, Pinhead, is a horror icon on the level of Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, or Leatherface. Russell’s initial stab at ensuring that success took place on an accelerated timeline: Presented with finished designs from lead concept designer Keith Thompson, Russell and his wife, Sienna, had just three days to prep for a meeting with the studio.

David Bruckner's new film "Hellraiser," a remake of Clive Barker's 1987 film, features a mysterious puzzle box at its center. When solved, the puzzle magically summons a cadre of unusual, monstrous being called Cenobites. The Cenobites are in a constant state of full-body mutilation, and have wires and pins lining their anatomy, carefully holding flaps of skin and muscle tissue aloft, assuring them the greatest possible pain. For the Cenobites, though, extreme pain is merely the height of sensory experience. In Barker's original, the pain was the extreme of sexuality. In Bruckner's film, the pain leads the Cenobites to a more spiritual, holy experience. In aching for outer reaches of physical experience, the Cenobites -- once human -- have transformed themselves. Their goal, now, is to convert other interested parties.

Original Hellraiser director Clive Barker is on board as a producer, but the new film was directed by The Ritual and The Night House director David Bruckner. In the reboot, the role of the Hell Priest (a.k.a. In the days since David Bruckner's take on "Hellraiser" debuted on Hulu, we haven't been able to stop talking about Jamie Clayton's turn as the new version of Pinhead/The Hell Priest, and her incredible transformation into the character made famous by Doug Bradley. Both Bruckner and Clayton have talked at length about the importance, impact, and sacred territory they were both entering by revitalizing the "Hellraiser" series, but Clayton's transformation is wildly impressive on a practical level as well. Brought to life by Bruckner's go-to FX house, Russell FX, Clayton's creature design as The Hell Priest is a stunning nightmare of prosthetics, sclera contact lenses, and yes, plenty of pins in the head.
Clayton's fellow co-stars noted that her presence on set completely changed the energy of the room, with Bruckner saying, "Sometimes she was rather intimidating to be around I think, not just for me and...

‘Hellraiser’ Director David Bruckner on the ’90s Vibes and Architectural Horror Approach [Interview]
Spoiler Warning: This article mentions setting and plot details.
One unexpected element of Hulu’s Hellraiser, directed by David Bruckner (The Night House, The Ritual), is its distinct ’90s horror vibes.
That’s most felt in Hellraiser‘s third act, where the Cenobites and remaining humans stand off in Roland Voight’s (Goran Visnjic) intricate mansion that doubles as a puzzle box of its own.
When speaking with Bloody Disgusting about the film, Bruckner confirmed the ’90s horror tone and explained the architectural elements.
“We definitely wanted there to be ’90s vibes,” Bruckner verified. “I didn’t know what it would mean to go back to something that I would define as the ’80s, necessarily, but a lot of that was in the way Ben [Lovett] and I approached the score. And just sometimes, the way the instrumentation would crawl across cuts and the commitment to bold themes. Not just the old Chris Young themes,...

Major spoilers for "Hellraiser" follow.
Recently, there has been an onslaught of horror reboots, which range from soulless cash grabs to new interpretations of old favorites that deepen the mythos surrounding some of Hollywood's most enduring franchises. Simply throwing buckets of blood at the screen is enough to satiate the desires of some gore hounds; for the rest of us, though, it's a good thing that David Bruckner's "Hellraiser" does that and much, much more.
The 2022 film is the rare reboot that honors its source material while expanding upon it in new and exciting ways. There are still plenty of nightmarish Cenobites, lots of brutal violence, and the creepy visuals that fans have come to expect from a "Hellraiser" movie. However, Bruckner also delves into the nature of addiction, whether to controlled substances or power, and the dangers that come with it. Further, Jamie Clayton, who plays the new Hell Priest,...

Warning: The article below contains major spoilers for 2022's "Hellraiser."
David Bruckner's "Hellraiser" reboot boasts exquisite design work and chilling Cenobites, giving diehard fans of the franchise a unique take on who or what unlocks the Lament Configuration box. Unlike the original film, which saw a thirsty — and showstopping — Julia (Claire Higgins) feeding men to resurrect her sleazy ex-lover Frank (Sean Chapman), the reboot focuses on what drives humanity's hunger for pleasure and pain.
Bruckner interweaves themes like substance abuse and recovery into the story, positioning Riley (Odessa A'zion) as someone who has lost control over her vices. Her brother, Matt (Brandon Flynn), has become exhausted with Riley's sobriety journey. In this light, the film's indirect and direct violence becomes a metaphor for how living with addictions can spiral into harming others, intentionally or not.

While the film doesn't deliver the strongest of characters, there's still power in Bruckner's...

Director David Bruckner reteams with The Night House writers Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski for a new, highly anticipated installment of Hellraiser, now streaming only on Hulu.
In Hellraiser, Odessa A’zion stars as Riley, “A young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.”
That puzzle box features six configurations, each offering a new puzzle to solve and a sharp hook that demands a blood sacrifice. It’s a brand-new iteration of the iconic puzzle box, which meant multiple variations to create for the film.
Speaking with Bloody Disgusting, Bruckner talked about the talent involved in the new puzzle box’s creation and juggling multiple iterations for the screen.
Bruckner’s search for the puzzle box’s concept artist led him to the realm of video games.
“Martin Emborg,...

When it was announced last year that Jamie Clayton had been cast to play the iconic Hell Priest, aka Pinhead in David Bruckner's reboot of "Hellraiser," an unfortunate number of horror fans were left asking, "Who?" Headlines primarily focused on the groundbreaking decision to cast the character originated by Doug Bradley with a woman, discussing the idea of Clayton's inclusion far more than her talents as an actor. It seemed as if the general discourse was more interested in debating the merits of Pinhead being played by a trans woman, rather than celebrating the trans woman chosen to play the part.
Jamie Clayton first broke onto the scene with a short-lived reality TV series called "TRANSform Me," with Laverne Cox and Nina Poon. A successor to the original run of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," the series saw the three hosts providing full-life makeovers to cisgender women in need.

Last year, my favourite film was The Night House, directed by Bruckner masterfully. On the surface, it’s essentially a creepy movie about a woman who may or may not be dealing with some paranormal, otherworldly stuff in her complexly designed house, but underneath it all, it’s really...

"Hellraiser" is back to bring you all the pain and pleasure you've been missing. Director David Bruckner's reboot "lifts the series out of the gutter to give it a touch of old-school charm," as Chris Evangelista wrote in his review for /Film. The movie follows brand new characters, including a brand new version of the iconic Pinhead character, and a whole lot of carnage.
The film works wonderfully as a first introduction to the world created by Clive Barker in the '80s, telling you just enough about the Cenobites without diving into the convoluted mythology of the ten-film franchise, all while still having plenty of references for fans.
Following the film's world premiere at Fantastic Fest, /Film has the chance to talk to have a spoiler-filled conversation with filmmaker David Bruckner and star Jamie Clayton about the ending of "Hellraiser," what the hell the main characters do after the carnage they experienced,...

A new “Hellraiser” has risen from the depths (or beamed in from another dimension). And the movie, now streaming on Hulu, adds considerably to the already established “Hellraiser” lore while also making it easily, um, digestible for those who are new to the franchise. Listen, you’re going to have to learn about Bdsm space weirdos at some point; why not now?
This new “Hellraiser” concerns a young woman named Riley (Odessa A’zion), a recovering addict who is desperate to get clean. Her boyfriend Trevor (Drew Starkey), who she met in the program, offers her a way to get some easy cash: break into a rich guy’s storage unit and steal his stuff. Only instead of stuff they find a single item: a mysterious puzzle box fans of the franchise will quickly identify as The Lament Configuration. As her journey continues, she becomes targeted by the Cenobites, a gang...

“Hellraiser” has risen from the depths.
The franchise, which began with 1987’s Clive Barker-directed original (based on his novella), has returned. This time, a young woman named Riley (Odessa A’zion) comes into possession of the cursed puzzle box and becomes a target for the Cenobites, ghoulish demons from another dimension, led by The Priest aka Pinhead (this time played by Jamie Clayton). It’s a terrifically smart reinvention of a franchise that has languished for far too long, aided by a whip-smart script by David S. Goyer, Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski and wonderful direction by David Bruckner (who worked with the same team on the underrated 2020 chiller “The Night House”).
TheWrap spoke to Bruckner and Clayton about what appealed to them about the property, their approach to the material and whether or not they’d return for future Cenobite-filled adventures.
