Boxing champ Paul Williams has been left paralysed from the waist down following a horrific motorcycle accident on Sunday morning.
The 30-year-old sportsman was on his way to his brother's wedding in Atlanta, Georgia when he lost control of his bike as he tried to avoid a collision with an oncoming car. His vehicle spun out of control and he landed on his back on the road.
The accident snapped his spine and his trainer father George Peterson reveals Williams will never be able to step back into the ring again.
He tells Espn.com, "They’re saying he won’t walk again or box again. Paul is in denial right now. It’s been that way with him. You tell him he can’t or won’t do something, and he wants to prove you different. So whatever the doctors say, he’s not listening. But they say that (walking and boxing) is not going to happen."
Williams, a two-time World Boxing Organization Welterweight Champion and Light Middleweight Champion, had just signed up for a big fight against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in September. The bout has been cancelled as a result of his accident.

Paul Williams, 30, a middleweight boxer known as "The Punisher," (pictured above with son Paul Williams Jr.) now faces a challenge of a very different kind after a motorcycle crash in Atlanta Sunday (May 28) that has left him paralyzed.
His manager George Peterson tells the AP that Williams was riding his motorcycle to his brother's wedding when he swerved to avoid an oncoming car and was thrown from the bike. The fall severed his spinal cord.
"From the waist down, he has absolutely no movement. He's in very good spirits, though. He still believes he's going to fight again," says Peterson."
Williams is listed in serious but stable condition and will undergo surgery on Wednesday to help stabilize his upper body. But doctors say he will not walk again.
His next scheduled fight was for the Wbc light middleweight title on Sept. 15 in Las Vegas against Mexican boxer Saul "Canelo" Alvarez,...

The Internet threw its back out on Thursday thanks to a 10-second video featuring Matthew Broderick in full Ferris Bueller mode. ("How can I handle work on a day like today?" Broderick utters with the smarmy tone you remember from the John Hughes classic.) The teaser for what will likely be a Ferris-centric Super Bowl commercial caused much online speculation about its ultimate goal, but it appears Jalopnik may have solved the mystery.
Per the site, the commercial will actually be for Honda, with many classic scenes from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" reenacted with the car company's vehicles. Even better? Todd Phillips ("The Hangover") reportedly directed the spot, which should air during Super Bowl Xlvi.
No word yet if Cameron, Sloane or George Peterson will make appearances as well.
