Simon Cowell was an instrumental figure in the meteoric rise of One Direction since 2010 when they were placed third on X-Factor that year. The group would sign on with Cowell’s record label Syco Records and would create chart-busting albums. There has not been a band like One Direction that was successful and that created such fan hysteria in the 2010s.

On June 4, “America’s Got Talent” season 19 continued with the second installment of audition episodes. In this initial stage of the competition, each judge is given two “golden buzzer” decisions to make where they can send an act straight through to the live shows. America’s Got Talent announced earlier this year that it would be changing its Golden Buzzer rule, and now viewers have seen precisely what led to that decision. On Tuesday’s (June 4) episode, which saw the second round of auditions, Simon Cowell broke the rules by using his Golden Buzzer twice. The previous rules stated that a judge could hit the Golden Buzzer once per season to send an act directly to the Live Shows. Cowell ignored that rule on Tuesday night when he used his Golden Buzzer twice, first for the incredible singer Liv Warfield and then again later in the episode for the group Sky Elements. The Dallas-based entertainment group directed the judges outside for their performance, which involved an impressive light show with choreographed drones. Cowell was so mind-blown by the performance that he hit his Golden Buzzer for the second time that evening. This confused fellow judges Heidi Klum,...

When One Direction formed on The X Factor UK in 2010, it was like capturing a million different rare occurrences at once — lightning in a bottle, a total solar eclipse, shooting stars, volcanic eruptions, winning the lottery, all of it. Simon Cowell looked at his creation — though it was actually Nicole Scherzinger who had a large hand in assembling them — with stars and dollar signs in his eyes. Nearly 14 years after they came together and nine since they last released music as a group, Cowell is kicking off an official search for the next One Direction.

Simon Cowell is embarking on a new kind of talent search.
The Got Talent impresario has teamed with Box to Box Films, the prolific producer behind Netflix hit Formula 1: Drive to Survive, to film a hunt for a One Direction-style boy band.
Cowell will audition hopefuls across the UK from next month, with open days taking place in Newcastle, Dublin, Liverpool, and London.
In a press notice announcing the auditions, organizers said the talent hunt is a stripped-back affair, swapping shiny-floor studios and TV audience votes for core talent discovery.
Box to Box Films is following the journey for a “potential documentary series,” but it is not clear if the project has found a home on a streamer or broadcaster.
A recent report in The Sun (a newspaper Cowell keeps close) said a potential Netflix deal is in the offing after he held talks with streamers about the documentary.

Following the two-hour premiere of “America’s Got Talent” season 19 on May 28, we asked You, “Who was your favorite act?” Among the acts that performed for the judges in Auditions 1 were dance group Los Osos High School, two-year-old mathematician Baby Dev, magician Sam Huang, dog act Daisy May & Clifford, ballet dancer Ashlee Montague, country singer Reyna Roberts, contortionist Arshiya, world record holder Chris Ivan, and body performer Tonikaku.
Based on your votes in our Auditions 1 poll, the dancers of Los Osos High School were your resounding favorite with over 67% popularity. The confetti. The tears. The hugs. Admit it: you just can’t get enough of those emotional Golden Buzzer moments on “America’s Got Talent” … and neither can we. This twist was first introduced on the U.S. version of the worldwide talent competition in Season 10, and it’s been an integral part of NBC’s reality TV show ever since.
Throughout the auditions, the four “AGT” judges (and the host as of Season 11) get to press the Golden Buzzer for an act that moves them emotionally, which sends the performer straight through to the live shows. During the now-defunct Judge Cuts round, guest panelists were allowed to push the button as well for their favorites. At the start of Season 18, Simon Cowell announced that there’d be an audience-voted buzzer for an act that wows the crowd. In Season 19, a new twist allowed the judges to each press their buttons twice during the auditions.

On May 28, “America’s Got Talent” season 19 began with the first installment of audition episodes. In this initial stage of the competition, each judge is given two “golden buzzer” decisions to make where they can send an act straight through to the live shows. As host, Terry Crews had one choice to make for his “golden buzzer,” and he was not shy about using it on the premiere to give comedian Learnmore Jonasi the show’s highest honor. Watch the full performance in the video above.
Ahead of his audition, Learnmore expressed his excitement and gratitude for having the opportunity to come from Zimbabwe and be in Los Angeles to perform in front of Terry and the judges. When he met Terry backstage he told him that he was a big inspiration and changed his life. At that point, he said “nothing will top this” and he would have been satisfied...

When Richard came to the stage to meet the judges, it was apparent that he was incredibly nervous. Another Season of American Idol has come and gone. Season 22 crowned winner Abi Carter Sunday night, and judge Katy Perry bid the show farewell. Perry sat at the judges’ panel for seven seasons alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
Following 15 seasons on Fox, ABC revived the singing competition series in 2018. The show began in June 2002, and it launched careers of musicians like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and more. A different trio of judges — Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul — helmed the show at the start alongside host Ryan Seacrest — who has shepherded the show through all of its changes.
ABC has not yet announced who will replace Perry as a judge and join the ranks of past and present celebrity judges. Below, find a list of all the judges in American Idol history.
