Mad Max franchise mastermind George Miller recently brought us a new addition to the series with the release of the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa (read our review Here) – and while that movie struggles to draw in viewers during its theatrical run, we have decided to take a look back at the first Mad Max sequel, the 1981 classic The Road Warrior (watch it Here). You can hear all about it in the embed above!
Directed by Miller from a screenplay he crafted with Terry Hayes and Brian Hannant, The Road Warrior – which is also known as Mad Max 2 outside of the United States – has the following synopsis: After avenging the death of his wife and young son at the hands of a vicious gang leader, Max drives the post-apocalyptic highways of the Australian outback, fending off attacks from nomadic tribes that prey on outsiders. Falling into an encampment...

Call it a "Mad Max" rite of passage. Ever since director George Miller's 1979 original introduced the world to the utter absurdity that is post-apocalyptic Australia, the gas-guzzling franchise has all but become a genre unto itself. After five total movies, culminating with this past weekend's "Furiosa," audiences are now well aware of what to expect from these idiosyncratic blockbusters. High-octane action, poignant ruminations on the future of our species, and a motley collection of freaks, weirdos, and badasses are well worth the price of admission alone. As far as series traditions go, however, one deceptively subtle trope returned in full force for "Furiosa."
The "Mad Max" movies have typically brought back many of the same cast members in different roles for the various sequels. For instance, newcomer fans may have been surprised to learn that the man behind the mask of "Fury Road" villain Immortan Joe, Hugh Keays-Byrne, had...

This article contains spoilers for "Furiosa."
In the medium of cinema, sequels still feel like a relatively recent phenomenon, especially as studios continue to seek to exploit intellectual property and squeeze as much blood (re: money) out of the same stone as possible. Yet despite the obvious capitalistic aims of film franchises, cinematic universes, and what have you, the tradition of continuing a story and/or telling new tales featuring evergreen characters is very ancient.
The "Mad Max" films, as conceived by the series' mastermind, George Miller, deliberately seek to continue those ancient, mythical traditions of storytelling rather than service more modern concepts of how to present a serialized narrative. Of course, this may not have always been the case, given that the original "Mad Max" from 1979 was made partially to exploit then-popular trends like the criminal biker film, the vigilante action movie, and so on. Certainly, beginning with 1981's...

The brain of filmmaker George Miller is a glorious thing. The creator of the Mad Max movies has conjured some of the craziest images ever committed to film – and now, at 79 years of age, he’s about to do it all over again in fifth outing Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Ever since the 1979 original Mad Max – and its sequels Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, and most recently Mad Max: Fury Road – Miller has been pulling weird and wonderful creations from his imagination and bringing them to the screen with uncompromising vision.
As a result, the Mad Max saga is packed with oddballs, grotesqueries, twisted heroes, and despicable villains. Now’s the perfect time to revisit every film in the series – and meet the wildest inhabitants of the Wasteland.

Children of the Corn is a new adaptation of Stephen King‘s novel, this time by Shudder and directed by Kurt Wimmer.
An adaptation shaped for the modern “sensibility” towards King’s novel, which raises philosophical questions about whether “any time in the past was better”.
I have never read such negative reviews about a film.
Movie Review
Could they have saved themselves the effort of making it? The answer is a resounding “yes”. It’s just another horror telefilm and which with this supposed regeneration of the tale – without covering any new ground – loses almost everything quitessential from the novel and destroys everything that the 1984 film had about it that was good.

Writer/director Kurt Wimmer’s recently released take on the Stephen King short story Children of the Corn is described as being a remake, but it’s different enough from the source material and the two previous adaptations – released in 1984 and 2009 – that you could really just call it “another Children of the Corn movie”. But whatever you call it, it went over pretty well with us here at JoBlo / Arrow in the Head. You can read Tyler Nichols’ 8/10 review at This Link, watch his interview with Wimmer and stars Elena Kampouris and Kate Moyer Here, and watch him discuss the film with fellow fan Mike Conway over Here. So we’re glad to share the news that the new Children of the Corn will be receiving a VOD, DVD, and Blu-ray release soon. The VOD release date is the closest; as of March 21st you’ll be able to watch the movie Here.

Director Kurt Wimmer‘s new take on Stephen King‘s horror novel Children of the Corn first arrived in theaters earlier this month, and up next it comes to Digital on March 21.
What about physical media, you ask? We’ve learned this week that Children of the Corn 2023 will be hitting Blu-ray on May 9, 2023, with Deleted Scenes included on the disc.
The new movie is the eleventh overall installment in the long-running franchise, and the first movie in the saga since John Gulager’s Children of the Corn: Runaway in 2018.
In Wimmer’s movie, which is said to have very little to do with King’s novel, “Possessed by a spirit in a dying cornfield, a twelve-year-old girl in Nebraska recruits the other children in her small town to go on a bloody rampage and kill all the adults and anyone else who opposes her. They’re back. Rlje Films presents the Stephen King reboot Children of the Corn by Kurt Wimmer on 500+ screens. It’s a redo of the classic 1984 slasher-horror film about kids possessed by a demonic spirit in a dying cornfield, with bloody, rampaging results.
King’s iconic short story features a 12-year-old Nebraska girl who recruits the kids in her small town for a killing spree of all the adults, and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival. There are some new twists, in Wimmer’s version, the corn is genetically modified. Starring Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey and Bruce Spence.
The story is great, spawning numerous spinoffs beginning with Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice in 1992 followed by Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest in 1995. Most went direct to video.

The film Children of the Corn, based on the Stephen King short story, spawned a franchise of considerable durability, but rather dubious quality. The first film was released in 1984 and the series sputtered to a halt in 2018 after the tenth entry, Children of the Corn: Runaway. But nothing ever really dies in the corn and two years later Children of the Corn got its second reboot following the TV version in 2009.
Or rather a reboot was written and directed by Kurt Wimmer. Wimmer who has directed Equilibrium and Ultraviolet is no stranger to reboots having written the new versions of Point Break, The Thomas Crown Affair and Total Recall. But after filming it seemed to disappear back into the cornfields for three years of vague mentions of release dates that came and went.

Like a virus that keeps coming back but growing weaker each time, “Children of the Corn” is now a horror movie that lacks the strength to infect you with even a speck of fear. The original strain of the virus was Stephen King’s short story — published in 1977, at the heart of his shivery heyday. The tale of a group of Nebraska farm-town children who worship a demon that lives in the local cornfields, it was like a slasher version of “Lord of the Flies,” with a touch of the creepiness of “The Wicker Man.” The kids killed the adults around them, but the scariest thing about them is that they’d become a cult. The cornfield demon, known as He Who Walks Behind the Rows, was less a monster than a force, one that spoke to gathering forces in our society — impulses of religious zealotry and intolerance that were...

The latest entry in the ever-growing canon of Stephen King screen adaptations is Children of the Corn, based on the horror legend’s 1977 short story of the same name. Rlje Films has today released its official trailer ahead of its theatrical premiere March 3rd.
Though Children of the Corn was already made famous thanks to the polarizing 1984 slasher flick, this new version by writer and director Kurt Wimmer is a “chilling new re-telling” of the story about a cult of children who aim to kill every adult in their small Nebraska town. While the main antagonist of the original story and the ’80s film was a nine-year-old boy named Isaac, the 2023 iteration focuses on the tween, pigtailed villain Eden (Kate Moyer).
“Prepare to witness the horrific rise of the next generation of evil,” narrates an eerie, gravelly voice at the beginning of the trailer, as we see vignettes of Eden’s blood-soaked malevolence.

"This is our world now!" Those damn kids! Rlje Films has unveiled an official trailer for Children of the Corn, a new update on the horror classic, originally based on the Stephen King story from the 1970s. It was adapted a few times before - there was the original 1984 horror movie Children of the Corn, which had a few sequels; and there was a TV movie version in 2009 for Syfy / Fox. After a few years waiting in release limbo, this 2023 update is set to open in theaters this March. Possessed by a spirit in a dying cornfield, a twelve-year-old girl in Nebraska recruits the other children in her small town to go on a bloody rampage and kill all the adults and anyone else who opposes her. Nearly three years have gone by since we first heard that Equilibrium writer/director Kurt Wimmer was at the helm of a new adaptation of the Stephen King short story Children of the Corn – and the project (which was filmed in Australia) was one of the few productions that didn’t have to shut down during the first wave of pandemic lockdowns back in early 2020. In October of 2020, the movie was given a theatrical release… in just two theatres in Sarasota, Florida. But now we finally know when those of us who didn’t see the movie in Sarasota are going to have the chance to watch it. Wimmer’s Children of the Corn has been acquired by Shudder and Rlje Films and will be getting an 18 day theatrical release beginning on March 3rd. A digital and VOD release will follow on March 21st.

One of the first movies to film during the early days of the pandemic back in 2020, director Kurt Wimmer‘s new take on Stephen King‘s horror novel Children of the Corn has been off the map completely for a while now, but Deadline breaks the silence this afternoon. The new movie has been acquired for March 2023 release by Rlje Films and Shudder.

The Matrix Resurrections has revealed most of its returning cast in the lead up to the film’s long-awaited release later this month. We’ve seen Keanu Reeves back as a more grungy Neo, Carrie-Anne Moss as a leather jacket-wearing grease monkey version of Trinity, and even Daniel Bernhardt has suited up once again as Agent Johnson. But there are still a few other returners we haven’t seen, such as Jada Pinkett Smith’s Niobe, the ship captain who played a vital role in the two Matrix sequels.
Then there’s Lambert Wilson’s elusive Merovingian, the grimy information broker and crime boss who was obsessed with cause and effect in The Matrix Reloaded and threw a hell of a bondage party in Revolutions. Warner Bros. has kept the villain’s return very close to the chest, but a new teaser announcing the advance ticket sales date finally lifts...

While much is made of the desire to be surprised by cinema, less is said about the secret charms of a well-packaged slice of the familiar. Robert Connolly's potboiler murder mystery - adapted in partnership with Harry Kripps from the novel by Jane Harper - is just that, a tale that unfolds with elegance across two time periods and which is given additional polish by strong performances and an eye for the natural landscapes of Australia.
Eric Bana brings a lonely complexity to the character of Aaron Falk, a big city cop who finds himself returning to the remote farming community where he grew up after his old friend Luke (Martin Dingle Wall) apparently kills his wife Karen (Rosana Lockhart), eldest child and himself in a perplexing murder-suicide, although Luke's mother Barb (Julia Blake) and father Gerry (Bruce Spence) don't buy it. The river has run dry but old wounds as.

The barren earth surrounding a drought-stricken Aussie town provides fertile ground for mystery, suspense and punchy emotional drama in “The Dry.” This enthralling adaptation of Jane Harper’s international bestseller stars a spot-on Eric Bana as a city detective whose investigation of an apparent murder-suicide in his hometown triggers renewed suspicion about his involvement in a mysterious death that’s haunted the community for two decades. Expertly directed and co-written by respected filmmaker Robert Connolly, “The Dry” has all the character intrigue, clever plot twists and red herrings to keep viewers guessing. It should become a sizeable summer hit when released in local cinemas on Jan. 1. Broad international streaming exposure is assured.
Headlining his first Aussie feature since 2007’s “Romulus, My Father,” Bana is perfectly cast as Federal Agent Aaron Falk. A dedicated detective based in Melbourne, Aaron hasn’t set foot in hometown Kiewarra since departing abruptly following the...

Robert Connolly’s The Dry stars Eric Bana as Agent Aaron Falk, who returns to his home town after an absence of over 20 years to attend the funeral of his childhood friend, Luke, who allegedly killed his wife and child before taking his own life – a victim of the madness that has ravaged this community after more than a decade of drought.
When Falk reluctantly agrees to stay and investigate the crime, he opens up an old wound – the death of 17-year-old Ellie Deacon. Falk begins to suspect these two crimes, separated by decades, are connected.
The film is based on the Jane Harper novel of the same name, adapted by Connolly and Harry Cripps.

One of the most surprisingly long-lived franchises, Children of the Corn will soon have its eleventh entry. The series that began with a 1984 Stephen King short story adaptation became a direct-to-video mainstay in the 1990s under Dimension Films, and has more recently received a Syfy remake and 2018’s Children of the Corn: Runaway.
We now know that the latest installment, again just titled Children of the Corn, has wrapped its challenging production though, with cast and plot details also recently being revealed. Producer Lucas Foster and director Kurt Wimmer have developed the new version of Corn as something distinct from the existing franchise, although we’d be surprised if there wasn’t a lot of corn and some creepy children in the mix. The film’s production in Australia was able to continue during the pandemic, and is being prepared for what appears to be a 2021 release, although whether this...

There can’t be many examples of this – Kurt Wimmer, whose credits include writing and directing Equilibrium, has wrapped production on a feature film shot on set entirely during the lockdown.
This project is a yet-to-be-titled reimagining of Stephen King’s short story Children Of The Corn, which has already spawned 10 feature movies prior to this one, and shot in Australia. It originally went into production in New South Wales at the beginning of March. When the Covid-19 pandemic forced productions to shutdown across the world (few of which have resumed yet), the producers say they consulted with local body Screen Nsw, which was a major investor in the pic, and decided to progress.
Collaborating with Safe Work Nsw and film safety expert Jon Heaney, they drew up a reconfigured shoot schedule and methodology that implemented health and safety measures for the entire production. As they were already on set together,...

Kurt Wimmer’s reimagining of “Children of the Corn” has completed its coronavirus-defying shoot in Australia. The filmmakers employed stringent health and safety protocols, and multiple insurance policies.
The producers revealed the previously undisclosed cast of young actors, with Elena Kampouris (“Before I Fall”) and Kate Moyer (“When Hope Calls”) starring. They are accompanied by Australian talent Callan Mulvey (“Avengers: Endgame”) and Bruce Spence (“The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”).
“You can theorize all you like about safety protocols, but until you get on set, you don’t really know. But I can now tell you it is impossible to keep a camera crew 1.5 meters apart,” producer Lucas Foster (“Ford v Ferrari”) told Variety.
Principal photography began in New South Wales in early March, when the Covid-19 outbreak forced the majority of productions around the world to shut down.
“We ended up taking hundreds of measures.

"We fight or we die."
Saban Films has released a couple of new trailers for the sci-fi alien invasion thriller Occupation. The story centers on a small group of people from a small town who band together to fight off an alien invasion and try to survive. Here's the synopsis:
After their small Australian country town is annihilated by an overwhelming airborne attack, a group of local civilians evade capture and discover they are now among the last remaining survivors of an extraterrestrial invasion engulfing the entire planet. As humanity falls under world-wide occupation, they form a home-grown army to fight back against vastly superior enemy forces. On the frontlines of the battle for Earth, they are our last hope.
Occupation obviously doesn't look like the best sci-fi film, but I know there's an audience out there that enjoys watching movies like this. This one looks like it could have some fun moments.

"We fight, or we die." Saban Films has released a brand new official Us trailer for the Australian sci-fi alien invasion thriller titled Occupation, from writer/director Luke Sparke. We posted the international trailer for this a few weeks ago and this looks even worse. The film is about a small group of town residents who have to band together after a devastating ground invasion from alien invaders. As they struggle to survive, they realize they must stay one step ahead of their attackers, and work together for a chance to strike back. The big Aussie cast includes Temuera Morrison, Stephany Jacobsen, Dan Ewing, Rhiannon Fish, Zachary Garred, Izzy Stevens, Charles Terrier, Charles Mesure, Felix Williamson, Jacqueline McKenzie, and Bruce Spence. This seems like another awful Red Dawn remake of sorts, and this trailer doesn't even show the aliens like the other trailer. Probably because they know they look bad?...
