"The Boys" season 4 will soon be upon us, but we'd be remiss to forget the spin-off series "Gen V." I was skeptical about the college-set superhero show, but it proved to have the same audacious spirit as its parent program ("Gen V" has pluckier leads too).
One of the most memorable "Gen V" scenes is the "puppet massacre" in episode 5, "Welcome to the Monster Club." Sam Riordan (Asa Germann), a super-strong teenager who's been locked in a lab, goes berserk and tears some attacking soldiers apart. But due to his loose grip on reality, he imagines himself and the others as Muppets, leading to a scene where Sam disembowels men but we only see puppet blood and bones. "The Boys" and "Gen V" are not shy about violence, so this altered reality has nothing to do with censorship. Rather, it explores Sam's character and his childish outlook on violence he...

Mark Hamill is reuniting with Mike Flanagan for a future project, and according to the filmmaker, it could be the performance of a lifetime from the "Star Wars" star. Flanagan spoke briefly about working with Hamill during a panel at Austin's Atx festival recently, and /Film's Ryan Scott was there to report back.
The panel in question was titled "The Monologue Case Study," and it featured a closer look at some of writer-director Flanagan's most memorable, loquacious cinematic moments. At one point in the question and answer session, an attendee asked the "Midnight Mass" filmmaker if he's ever written monologues that he's later had to cut, and he admitted he has. "Mostly, with the writing, it's my fault," Flanagan said, noting that sometimes he realizes during the edit that a sequence is better with less explanation or commentary.
Luckily, that's apparently not the case with his unnamed upcoming collaboration with Hamill,...

It was announced last month that Mike Flanagan, beloved horror auteur behind such titles as "The Haunting of Hill House" and "Doctor Sleep," will be the latest filmmaker to hear the calling, wear the collar, and be compelled by the power of Christ to direct a new "Exorcist" movie.
The last "Exorcist" movie we got, David Gordon Green's "The Exorcist: Believer," was a bit of a mess, with Green's planned "Exorcist" trilogy crashing before takeoff (almost as badly as a Boeing flight). Can Flanagan rescue the franchise? More importantly, which Flanagan-isms can we expect from his take on "The Exorcist?" Will the movie be emotional and tear-jerking? Probably. Will it feature at least a few of his regular collaborators? Very likely. Will it give us another lengthy monologue or two? Turns out, it likely won't.

When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. Pretty straightforward, right? Well, no, not if you're a character in Mike Flanagan's fictional world — or Flanaverse, if you will — and especially if you're Roderick Usher (Bruce Greenwood), the unprecedented tycoon of an unbelievably corrupt empire in "The Fall of the House of Usher." Monologues have always been Flanagan's specialty, as these complex, rather elaborate verbal pieces allow us to glimpse the hidden heart of a character, including what drives them forward and how their worldviews tint their inner landscapes. In this particular instance, the recipient of Roderick's monologue is Auguste Dupin (Carl Lumbly), who soaks in every word, confounded by the intense and ironic nature of the unraveling.
The lemon monologue that graces the show's third episode is memorable for many reasons. It underlines Roderick's ruthless grasp on the minutiae of power and influence, where even humble, everyday produce...

Mike Flanagan began his filmmaking career in 2011 with "Absentia," a Kickstarter-backed horror movie about a pregnant woman whose missing husband mysteriously returns after an unexplained seven-year absence. He gained mainstream attention with 2013's "Oculus," a gripping horror film about a haunted mirror that technically takes place almost entirely in one room. Then, in 2016, Flanagan offered the one-two-three punch of "Hush," "Before I Wake," and the mainstream sequel "Ouija: Origin of Evil." He was now a recognizable force in the horror community.
Flanagan gathered a huge fanbase with his subsequent adaptations of several famous horror novels. In 2017, he adapted Stephen King's "Gerald's Game" into an excellent feature film. In 2018, he turned Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting of Hill House" into a TV miniseries. In 2019, he made "Doctor Sleep," a convoluted ghost story based on King's sequel to "The Shining." New Exorcist Director Mike Flanagan Is 'Terrified' To Be Taking On The Horror Classic [Atx Festival]
Earlier this month, horror mastermind Mike Flanagan was announced as the new heir apparent to the "Exorcist" franchise, assuming the reins from David Gordon Green in what's being described as a "radical new take" on the truly scary source material. Little is known about the "Haunting of Hill House" and "Midnight Mass" creator's plans for the long-running property, but at the annual Atx festival in Austin today, Flanagan spoke frankly about the pressure of crafting a new story in the shadow of one of the most frightening tales ever told.
"For 'The Exorcist' specifically, I'm f**king terrified," Flanagan admitted at a panel attended by /Film's Ryan Scott. A spotlight on adaptations titled "From Book To Script To Screen," the event also featured a number of other panelists, including the executive producers behind AMC's "Interview with the Vampire," ABC's "Will Trent," Netflix's "Black Mirror," and the Apple TV+ series "Silo.

Nearly all of Stephen King's novels and a bulk of his short stories have made their way to the big and small screen over the years. After the feature adaptation of "It" became a box office hit in 2017, studios seemed to break their legs rushing to adapt King to the screen again, ushering in a King adaptation renaissance. Some of these adaptations have been good, and some of them have been ... well, not so good. As for King himself, he's mostly avoided handling the recent adaptations himself, with the exception of an episode of "The Stand" reboot and every episode of the Apple TV+ series "Lisey's Story," which King penned the scripts for.
One filmmaker who knows a thing or two about adapting King is Mike Flanagan. Flanagan achieved the seemingly possible by bringing King's "unadaptable" book "Gerald's Game" to Netflix. Then he directed "The Shining" sequel "Doctor Sleep." And...

The Streaming Wars were unhealthy for everyone. Let us look back for a moment to see where it took us: sometime in the mid 2010s, TV networks turned to Netflix as a surprising new model of potential streaming success. Not wanting to be left in the dust, the networks felt they should all launch their own streaming platforms, wanting to adapt to the times. In this new model, streaming services would be able to vertically integrate each individual studio's output, gathering all of their properties under one umbrella, as it were.
It was certainly appealing to the studio bean-counters that streaming services weren't required to reveal their subscription numbers or actual viewership, handily cutting actors, writers, and everyone else out of potential royalties.
These new companies were very valuable from a stock market perspective, and the studios knew it. Every studio began dumping billions upon billions into high-profile TV shows...

If you've watched any of the biggest television series over the last several years, from "Stranger Things" to "Shōgun" to Marvel's "Secret Invasion", you're likely all too aware of one of the biggest debates forever raging among nerds like us: What's the best way to experience the major water-cooler shows commonly considered to be "appointment viewing"? Is the binge model popularized by Netflix the way to approach things, in which viewers are able to spend a whole weekend devouring every episode of an entire season all in one go? Or is it better to exercise a little patience and release episodes one at a time in weekly installments, allowing word-of-mouth momentum to build while keeping the entire production at the center of the cultural conversation for much, much longer? (Or, perhaps, we can have the best of both worlds through "Hacks.")

See the line where the sky meets the sea? In 2016, audiences heeded the call of "Moana," capping off a fantastic year for Disney Animation that also saw eventual Best Animated Feature Film Oscar winner "Zootopia" top over a billion dollars at the box office. Closing in on a decade later, however, the House That Mickey Built has fallen on harder times after suffering one of its costliest box office misfires ever with "Strange World" and releasing what was intended to be the crown jewel in its 100th-anniversary celebration, "Wish," to middling reviews and even worse financial returns. It's under these circumstances that Bob Iger, fresh off having un-retired from his position as Disney's CEO, has announced further adventures with both the furry members of the Zootopia Police Department (Zpd) and the studio's beloved Pacific Islander princess.

All kidding aside, summer is bearing down upon us, and that means unbearable, scorching hot temperatures. (Thanks global warming!) So, what better way to burn though your free time than by plopping yourself down in an air-conditioned theater and checking out the latest releases? After a relatively slow start to the year, June looks to turn things up a notch with some notable tentpoles. Tragically, however, you can't spend all of your non-working hours at the multiplex -- not even for the "Lord of the Rings" re-release.

If you had told me back in 2009 or so that one day the guy who played Jim on "The Office" was going to helm one of the most successful horror movie franchises of the 21st century, I would have first been very impressed to learn that time travel was real, then immediately questioned what sort of future you came from where this was a possibility. And yet, in 2018, John Krasinski did exactly that, joining forces with the creative duo of Bryan Woods and Scott Beck to deliver, "A Quiet Place."
Set in a world where mysterious creatures hunt by sound, forcing what's left of humanity to go silent, "A Quiet Place" is centered on a family fighting for survival. The film was a massive success at the box office, inspiring the sequel film "A Quiet Place Part II," which saw the family moving on without their father after he was killed in the previous film,...

The summer movie season kicks off in earnest with the release of "The Fall Guy" this weekend. Starring Ryan Gosling ("Barbie") and Emily Blunt ("Oppenheimer"), this movie has been garnering great buzz ever since it premiered at SXSW in Austin, Texas, back in March. /Film's own Jacob Hall gave the film a near-perfect 9 out of 10 review. It's part action movie, part rom-com, and Universal Pictures has been marketing the hell out of it.
The film centers on stuntman Colt Seavers (Gosling), who left the business a year ago. But he is called back to suit up once again when the star of a mega-budget blockbuster goes missing. To further complicate matters, the movie is being directed by the woman of his dreams, Jody Moreno (Blunt).

Spoiler alert: As much as Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt remain the undeniable draws of "The Fall Guy," there are multiple contenders in the cast for the sought-after crown of "Best Scene Stealer." You have Aaron Taylor-Johnson, an inspired bit of casting as the insufferable A-lister casting a long shadow over Gosling's stuntman Colt Seavers. Then there's the great Hannah Waddingham, chewing up the scenery (and then some) as the no-nonsense producer Gail Meyer who stops at nothing to keep the show on the road. Heck, you could even go with either of the two dogs that portrayed Jean Claude, the Australian Kelpie that only responds to French commands and takes on an unforgettable supporting role amid all the action.

Back in 2016, director Scott Derrickson and co-writer C. Robert Cargill's "Doctor Strange" walked so the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe could run. The underrated origin film might not have indulged in the same kind of cameo trend and crossover hype tactics as some of the bigger titles that followed in its footsteps, not to mention reaching the same heights at the box office, but the movie still established quite a few benchmarks the franchise would continue to rely upon. For one thing, Derrickson and his creative team clearly defined the visuals of the cosmic side of the MCU -- something we've seen even in the latest "Deadpool & Wolverine" trailer. For another, taking the time to flesh out Stephen Strange's unique backstory allowed subsequent projects to hit the ground running (such as "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" or the Disney+ "What If?" series) and further...

Jon Musker and Ron Clements' 2016 animated Disney film "Moana" was a massive hit, making over $687 million worldwide. The titular character is a princess from the Polynesian island of Motunui. Her people are content on their island and hate venturing out into open waters, a mandate that Moana (Auliʻi Cravalho) decides to break when a blight strikes her village. The bulk of "Moana" follows the princess after she sets sail and befriends Maui (Dwayne Johnson), an impish demigod with a connection to the blight. "Moana" was nominated for two Oscars, including Best Animated Feature and Best Song.
A "Moana" TV series was in the works at Disney, although those plans were surprisingly altered in February 2024 when CEO Bob Iger announced that the series was being reworked into a movie sequel instead. The release date was given as November, only nine months from the announcement. In terms of Disney marketing, that was pretty short notice.

Few movies embody the pre-pandemic moviegoing days quite like "The Lion King," an expensive, fully CGI remake of a hand-drawn animation classic, which made over $1.5 billion in 2019 yet rarely seems to come up in pop culture conversations since its release. Deadpool & Wolverine Footage Reaction: Wade Wilson Brings R-Rated Raunch To The MCU [CinemaCon 2024]
Deadpool, the foul-mouthed pansexual super-anti-hero played by perpetual smart-aleck Ryan Reynolds, is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). That alone feels like pretty mind-blowing stuff, but he's also bringing back Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, who appeared to have hung up his adamantium claws after "Logan" in 2017. In the upcoming "Deadpool & Wolverine," hitting theaters on July 26, 2024, the Merc with the Mouth will join the MCU courtesy of some timeline-bending shenanigans ala the Disney+ series "Loki," and the first teaser trailer hints at just how that all happens. Unfortunately, we don't get to see much of Morena Baccarin's Vanessa or Brianna Hildebrand's Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and we have no idea how Jennifer Garner's Elektra Natchios from 2003's "Daredevil" factors into things, but thankfully now we've got a bit more information on the McU's first R-rated movie.

Marvel Studios has been quiet for a little while, but Kevin Feige and company made a splash at CinemaCon 2024 by showing off several minutes of footage from one of their next big movies.
One of the most astonishing things about the 15-year-long cultural phenomenon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that they managed to get a mass audience to care about limp characters like Thor and Captain America. As a comics reader in the 1990s, I recall that those who read Thor and Captain America books were snickered at; the X-Men, Batman, Spider-Man, and the then-rising Image Comics characters were considered way cooler. Thanks to the MCU, however, Captain America (previously played by Chris Evans) was now hip, and his movie "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is often vaunted -- rather debatably -- as one of the best films in the long-running series.

Humanity has a lot of making up to do after ushering in the fall of civilization and our replacement at the top of the food chain by intelligent simians, so 20th Century Studios is doing all that it can to make things right by bringing the next installment of the popular sci-fi franchise to the annual convention aimed towards theater owners. Luckily, /Film's very own Ryan Scott is in attendance at the event, covering all the major happenings as major studios descend upon the bright lights of Las Vegas. CinemaCon has traditionally served as ground zero for exclusive first looks, buzzy footage descriptions, and all sorts of other marketing hype for the biggest and most anticipated movies on the calendar. This year is certainly no exception.

It's been 24 years since Ridley Scott's "Gladiator" brought the glory and gore of ancient Rome to gorgeous life, and now the prolific director has returned to the tale with "Gladiator 2." Set 20-30 years after the events of the first film, "Gladiator 2" will star Paul Mescal as Lucius, the son of Roman Empress Lucilla. Though Maximus (Russell Crowe) died along with Lucius's vicious uncle Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) at the end of "Gladiator," both Lucilla and Lucius survived.
The movie will also star Denzel Washington as an arms dealer who has a stable of gladiators and Joseph Quinn as Emperor Caracalla, along with Pedro Pascal, May Calamawy, Peter Mensah, Matt Lucas, Fred Hechinger, and Derek Jacobi. That's quite a packed cast, although with a reportedly massive budget of more than $300 million, "Gladiator 2" could prove to be a disaster financially while paying off well for movie-goers who want to see some high-end historical fiction.

Filmmaker Parker Finn has experienced a career start that most can only dream of. After his 11-minute horror short "Laura Hasn't Slept" screened at SXSW 2020, Finn signed a deal with Paramount Pictures to adapt it into a feature-length film, "Smile," which stars Sosie Bacon as a psychotherapist who becomes targeted by a sadistic demon. After witnessing a patient's suicide, she's plagued by hallucinations of people she knows staring at her with very creepy smiles, and finds herself unable to trust anything she sees or hears.
"Smile" grossed more than $217 million at the box office, a massive success given its $17 million budget, and a sequel was soon greenlit, with Finn returning as writer and director. Kyle Gallner, whose character survived the last movie and was implied to be the demon's next target, has returned for "Smile 2," and is joined by new cast members Naomi Scott, Lukas Gage, Rosemarie DeWitt, Dylan Gelula,...

Since 2007, the "Transformers" movies have been A) Primarily set on Earth (excepting prologues in "Dark of the Moon" and "Bumblebee" showing the war for planet Cybertron) and B) Live-action, using CGI to integrate the Autobots and Decepticons into real settings. Director Josh Cooley ("Toy Story 4") is about to change that with "Transformers One." /Film's Ryan Scott, who attended the Paramount Pictures panel at CinemaCon 2024, got an early look at the upcoming animated movie.
"Transformers One" is a prequel set before the war when the Autobots and Decepticons were still one people. Since the movie is set entirely on Cybertron with only robot characters, it makes sense to tell the story through animation. "Transformers" is no stranger to prequels -- check out the comic series "The War Within," High Moon Studios' video game duology "War for Cybertron" and "Fall of Cybertron," and more. Still, this is new territory for the films.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Footage Reaction: Shadow The Hedgehog Makes His Grand Entrance [CinemaCon 2024]
The "Sonic the Hedgehog" franchise is one of the best arguments in favor of the whole "IP is king" theory. The video games weren't exactly a pinnacle of narrative craftsmanship, relying more on the charm of the characters and the appeal of the gameplay to become as popular as they did. But the first and second movies, released in 2020 and 2022 respectively, were big hits for Paramount, suggesting the characters and brand recognition were enough to keep audiences engaged. Naturally, then, we'll be getting "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" this year, and we just got our first look at it.

Sound might be instant death in the world of "A Quiet Place," but that's not stopping Paramount Pictures from making some noise with the newest installment of this unexpectedly successful franchise. First kicked off by director and star John Krasinski in 2018, the high-concept genre movie instantly stood out as an original, well-crafted, and thoroughly engrossing experience at the theater. And since anything done well these days is apparently always worth doing twice, if not more, that effort led to a sequel just two years later. Now, we're on the cusp of a prequel movie that aims to turn back the clock all the way to ground zero of the alien invasion with "A Quiet Place: Day One."

What a time for "Avatar: The Last Airbender" fans to be alive. The Aang Gang was first immortalized in Nickelodeon's original animated series, one that practically altered the brain chemistry of countless kids of my generation and introduced us to the sheer potential of storytelling. Netflix most recently took advantage of the nostalgia and goodwill the show still enjoys, translating the tale of Aang's destiny as the Avatar and his war against the Fire Nation into a live-action retelling that quickly justified a second and third season. All that took place as a backdrop to the news first reported two years ago, of course, which indicated that Avatar Studios (headed by the creators of the original show, Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dimartino) was going all in on a trio of new animated movies set in the world of "Avatar."

Captain's Log: Stardate 2024. It's been eight years since the USS Enterprise's last voyage on the big screen, with the franchise having since returned to its roots on television. During that period, the property has proliferated thanks to an influx of streaming series that's included everything from a "Next Generation" reunion to a raunchy cartoon and a wonderfully silly musical episode. But through it all, the question has lingered: when will Trekkies get to undertake another mission painted on the largest canvas available?

This was, if nothing else, anticipated by fans. Based on the book by Gregory Maguire, the hit Broadway stage musical "Wicked" opened on October 30, 2003, at the Gershwin Theatre, and has been running there ever since. It recently surpassed "Cats" to become the fourth longest-running show in Broadway history, although it has a long way to go to supplant "The Lion King" as the third-longest. The musical is a prequel to "The Wizard of Oz," depicting the Wicked Witch of the West as a young green-skinned woman named Elphaba whose reputation has been wildly misunderstood. The show won three Tonys upon its release, and the accompanying soundtrack album won an Emmy. One might say that "Wicked" is very ... Popular.

CinemaCon 2024 is well underway and the latest film to be given the sneak peek treatment is Robert Eggers' "Nosferatu." The upcoming horror remake from the "Northman" director will star Bill Skarsgård as the titular vamp, alongside Lily Rose-Depp, Nicholas Hoult, and Willem Dafoe. Until now, there's been no footage from the film or trailers released, but after the Universal presentation at CinemaCon, that's all changed.
Following in the footsteps of Werner Herzog's 1979 effort "Nosferatu the Vampyre," Eggers' film will reinterpret F.W. Murnau's 1922 "Dracula" adaptation "Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror." The director has promised a gothic horror movie that will actually scare audiences, which is exactly what we were hoping to hear. But the real test for "Nosferatu" will be whether it can succeed where so many modern vampire films have failed — namely, at the box office. We've got a huge and exciting news announcement to make fresh out of CinemaCon 2024, the highly-anticipated sequel to "Five Nights at Freddy's" will be heading to theaters in 2025. /Film's own Ryan Scott was in attendance when Universal made the announcement, a shocker to absolutely no one considering Blumhouse and Universal were fast-tracking a sequel to Emma Tammi's film adaptation of Scott Cawthon's impossibly popular video game franchise of the same name before the animatronic murder machines had a chance to recharge.
The decision was a result of the film's astronomically huge success at the box office, outperforming every other horror release of 2023, including Blumhouse and Universal's massive legacy film, "The Exorcist: Believer." What's even wilder is that "FNaF" went day-and-date with a streaming release on Peacock, meaning audiences had the opportunity to stay at home and scare themselves silly without having to dig into their pockets for tickets,...

One of the most upsetting horror films of recent years is getting the Hollywood treatment, and the trailer is finally here. Christian Tafdrup's "Speak No Evil" debuted in 2022, with the Danish filmmaker zeroing in on our shared desire to avoid conflict and remain polite in social situations, revealing some discomfiting truths about our capacity for self-destruction in the process. The "Speak No Evil" remake from Blumhouse, then, will attempt to translate what was already a startling effective film for English audiences, with "Eden Lake" director James Watkins at the helm.
Just how the James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis-starring remake will manage to match the original is perhaps the biggest question here, mainly because the 2022 movie was already brilliant, but also because Tafdrup has spoken numerous times about how he was inspired by his own culture and thought "suppressing feelings and being dictated by social behavior was a very Scandinavian problem.

Hollywood has been obsessed with biopics for what seems like forever, but it's hard not to admit that our current film landscape is reaching critical mass with movies about famous people. I guess when they've run out of recognizable IP, they've gotta center stories about recognizable faces instead. Last year alone we saw "Maestro," "The Iron Claw," "Napoleon," "Ferrari," "Nyad," "Priscilla," and "Big George Forman," not to mention brand movies like "Blackberry," "Tetris," "Air," and "Barbie." And then, of course, there's "Oppenheimer," which not only took home seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director, but also became the highest-grossing biopic of all time. No shade to our boy Oppy, but it seems like a new film from Antoine Fuqua is coming for that title and the fact it's a movie about the most famous musical performer to ever live certainly gives the project a leg up on the father of the atomic bomb.

Chad Stahelski's 2019 actioner "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum" featured a character named Rooney, a ballerina who was studying to be an assassin. Recall that seemingly 65% of the world's population are trained assassins in the world of John Wick, so a ballerina wanting to become an assassin is a viable career move. Rooney was played by a professional dancer named Unity Phelan, who has served as a principal dancer in the New York Ballet since 2021. The idea of a ballerina assassin was tantalizing, but Rooney's story was not followed in "Parabellum" or in the epically long "John Wick: Chapter 4."
One might also recall that John Wick seemingly died in "Chapter 4," leaving the franchise overlords in a lurch when it came to further sequels. Good Fortune Footage Reaction: Keanu Reeves Is Aziz Ansari's Literal Guardian Angel [CinemaCon 2024]
Aziz Ansari was a big name in comedy in the 2010s, not just from memorable roles in shows like "Parks and Recreation," but also his stellar turn as creator of the acclaimed Netflix comedy "Master of None." Ansari was set to make his directorial debut back in 2022 with "Being Mortal," but that film was shut down following sexual harassment allegations against Bill Murray, the star of the film. Not helping here were the sexual misconduct accusations against Ansari himself back in 2018.

The vengeful spirit Eric Draven first appeared in James O'Barr's indie comic "The Crow" in 1989. He became a Goth household name in 1994 thanks to the popularity of Alex Proyas' ultra-stylized, uber-Noir film adaptation starring Brandon Lee, who was infamously killed on the set of "The Crow" thanks to a misfiring prop gun. The teens of 1994 venerated the film, and "The Crow" was deeply beloved by many. The film warranted several sequels, including "The Crow: City of Angels" in 1994, "The Crow: Salvation" in 2000, and "The Crow: Wicked Prayer" in 2005. O'Barr's characters were also featured in the 1998 TV series "The Crow: Stairway to Heaven."

It's Margot Robbie's world and we're just living in it, folks. Between that and her star-making performances in recent years, she's pretty much had her pick of the litter in Hollywood. When your last film won Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Film, what in the heck could you possibly do for an encore? When you're Bong Joon-ho, a one-of-a-kind cinematic visionary who's yet to make a less-than-great movie, you go to Warner Bros and you go epic.
Bong's follow-up to his 2019 triumph "Parasite" is "Mickey 17," an adaptation of Edward Ashton's critically acclaimed science fiction novel about an expendable space explorer (Robert Pattinson) sent on a perilous mission to colonize the ice planet Niflheim. When the first Mickey dies, a human print is generated with most of the deceased's memories intact. In Ashton's book, the human printing process is set to continue indefinitely after the newest iteration of Mickey dies. But when one Mickey survives after being presumed dead, there are now two Mickeys on Niflheim – which would result in both being eliminated.

There is not a more divisive filmmaker working today than M. Night Shyamalan. Everyone can basically agree that his 1999 breakthrough "The Sixth Sense" is a supernatural classic, but after that? Slip on the brass knuckles and get ready to rumble. Shyamalan's early 2000s hits "Unbreakable" and "Signs," along with his 2017 comeback "Split," generate the least amount of friction, but aside from those three, it's so very on. You'll hear reasonable defenses for just about all of his films (save for the singularly atrocious "The Last Airbender"). While it's hard to sway folks on a movie as wackadoodle as "The Happening," it is only a good thing to have a major filmmaker knocking out provocative original movies for major studios.
Shyamalan's latest provocation, "Trap," will be his first project under his first-look deal with Warner Bros., and as is typically the case with a new Shyamalan movie, we know next to nothing about it.
