Darth Maul is one of the most fearsome and interesting villains to be introduced in George Lucas’ epic space-opera saga Star Wars. Maul was first introduced as a Sith apprentice of Darth Sidious in The Phantom Menace. However, the character has since found new life in spin-off media where his story has been fleshed out.

As a result, many fans will be surprised to learn that some of the earlier concepts and designs for the character were entirely different from the final version. Moreover, Lucas’ initial brief to his concept designer resulted in a freighting creation that the filmmaker deemed too scary to use. Here is how Darth Maul was originally designed and how his appearance changed.

Here’s the thing about Emperor Palpatine: somehow, he always returns. First, Ian McDiarmid donned old-age makeup to play the role of Star Wars’ arch-villain in 1983’s Return Of The Jedi. Then, he returned 16 years later to play Palpatine again in the prequel trilogy – this time as the politician who would become the Emperor. And in 2019’s The Rise Of Skywalker, he came back one last time as the rotting, reincarnated ruler, ready to emerge from the shadows and execute his plan once and for all. Palpatine’s resurrection in Episode IX was a controversial point for some fans – not just since Luke and Vader vanquished the Emperor together at the end of the original trilogy, but because the galaxy’s age-old enemy hadn’t featured in the other sequel trilogy films.
But to McDiarmid himself, it makes sense. Speaking to Empire in a major new interview – celebrating 25 years of...

Ever since he first popped up in Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Mace Windu has been one of the baddest motherfu- sorry, baddest Jedi Masters in the business. Quite literally, in fact – Samuel L. Jackson has the letters ‘Bmf’ etched into the hilt of the lightsaber he kept. And so, since we never actually saw him perish, there have long been rumours – and wishes from fans – that maybe, just maybe, he didn’t die in Episode III – Revenge Of The Sith. Sure, his hand was sliced off by Anakin, and he was seriously sizzled by Palpatine’s Force lightning before being flung from a window into the Coruscant sky. But in the Star Wars galaxy, is that really enough to kill the coolest Jedi?

With the arrival of Revenge Of The Sith, Hayden Christensen thought his time as Anakin Skywalker was over, having picked up the baton from Jake Lloyd and plunged the Jedi Knight into darkness. But as it turned out, he wasn’t done quite yet. In recent years, Christensen has returned to Star Wars on screen in Obi-Wan Kenobi and most recently in Ahsoka, once again portraying Anakin (and Vader) in fights, flashbacks, Force-fuelled visions and more. Most notably, in Ahsoka, he got to play a version of Anakin that he’d never played before: his Clone Wars incarnation, previously only seen in animated form (and voiced by Matt Lanter) in The Clone Wars series.
As Christensen tells Empire in a major new interview – for our Star Wars prequels 25th anniversary issue – getting to star in live-action opposite Anakin’s one-time Padawan Ahsoka Tano was a big deal. “The scenes that...

The epic Darth Maul vs. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn duel. The thunderous Boonta Eve Podrace. The battle of Naboo. Well, good news: to mark 25 years since the film first hit cinemas in 1999, it’s coming back to cinemas later this year. Cue the fanfare!

Talk about pressure. There are few villains in cinema as iconic as Darth Vader – recognisable from the briefest glimpse of his distinctive helmet, or the merest mechanical hiss of his respirator. So when Hayden Christensen signed on to play Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels, he took on a formidable task: presenting the man behind the mask. Across Episode II – Attack Of The Clones and Episode III – Revenge Of The Sith, Christensen showed us how exactly how the galaxy’s brightest hope turned from the light and plunged into total darkness – and through that time, his own Star Wars experience was a mix of light and dark too. After weathering years of criticism, he’s now been wholeheartedly embraced by the fandom.

Star Wars Prequel Cast Revisits The Trilogy 25 Years Later In Empire’s Anniversary Issue – Exclusive
Back in 1999, a brand new era in the galaxy far, far away came to life. George Lucas’ Star Wars prequels told an epic tale of fallen Jedi, forbidden romance, and the dismantling of democracy – assembling a whole new cast to inhabit his vast space-opera. The stars who entered that sandbox took a bold step, not only working at the frontier of digital filmmaking techniques, but conjuring a Star Wars saga that stood apart visually and tonally from the beloved originals. The likes of Hayden Christensen, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Liam Neeson and Ian McDiarmid became an entire generation’s set of Star Wars heroes (and villains) – and they all spoke to Empire for our epic new issue, celebrating 25 years of the trilogy.
For Ewan McGregor, the pressure of playing the young Obi-Wan Kenobi was eased by working alongside Liam Neeson – whose Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn suffers a noble end in...

The fall of Anakin Skywalker. The collapse of the Galactic Republic. The rise of Emperor Palpatine and creation of Darth Vader. It’s been 25 years since the Star Wars prequels changed everything – back in 1999, The Phantom Menace exploded into cinemas in an unprecedented cultural event. In its wake followed Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith, unspooling George Lucas’ visionary, technically ambitious, and thematically-dense trilogy of tragedy. The reception at the time was unsteady; today, they’re hailed as a vital and beloved era of Star Wars history.
The new issue of Empire is an epic celebration of Episodes I, II, and III, revisiting the movies with the people who made them. Inside, we have brand new cast interviews, including major conversations – and exclusive photo shoots – with Anakin Skywalker himself, Hayden Christensen, and the one and only Emperor Palpatine, Ian McDiarmid; also speaking to Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman,...

It's fair to say that Padmé Amidala is one of the "Star Wars" saga's most underappreciated characters. She played something of a thankless role throughout the prequel trilogy; while she's probably known best as Anakin Skywalker's romantic foil, she was so much more in the grand scheme.
Much ink has been spilled on Padmé's importance to the Galactic Republic, especially in "Episode II — Attack of the Clones." It's her fierce independence and general aversion to authority that made her such a threat to then-chancellor Palpatine. Most of his dastardly plans include efforts to remove Padmé entirely from the equation, either through the invasion of Naboo in "The Phantom Menace," or through a handful of assassination attempts.
Fortunately, Padmé managed to stick around longer than anyone expected her to. Her presence was a welcome challenge to the tyranny of the fledgling Empire, but also to the prequels' overwhelmingly male ensemble.

If there's one thing the Naboo Queen-Senator Padmé Amidala has taught us in the "Star Wars" galaxy, you're not a true politician unless you're worthy of the fashion runway. Her iconic prequel trilogy wardrobe blazed a fashion trail for her fellow galactic politicians — and cosplayers at Star Wars Celebration.
"The Mandalorian" season 3 continues Padmé's fashionista legacy by introducing a regentess played by singer Lizzo (who herself graces the concert stage as a dancing and flute-playing fashion icon). In season 3, episode 6 "Guns for Hire," Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), his adorable foundling Grogu, and Lady Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) venture to Plazir-15 where they are greeted by its lavish regents, the Duchess and Captain Bombardier (Jack Black). The Mandalorians — save for the enchanted Grogu — find themselves weirded out by the upper-crust atmosphere and out of place in their beskar armor.

Tomorrow, "The Art of Star Wars: The High Republic (Volume One)" by Kristin Baver (with a foreword by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy) hits newsstands. "The High Republic" was unique among Disney's "Star Wars" publishing goals in that they brought in artists like Ian McCaig to do a blue sky development phase with a whole writing team. It's not something that's been done before, and this book documents a lot of the iteration and thought behind the visuals we've been seeing across the program. It was a useful tool to unite the writers and comic book artists into a single vision as they told their stories. It's also served to create a cohesion in design for readers, allowing us to have a unified view of what we were supposed to imagine in a universe as concerned with canon and accuracy as the entirety of "Star Wars."

As American Horror Stories, Marvel’s What…If?, and Star Wars: Visions have taught us, anthology shows can be a great format with which to experiment with storytelling styles or explore lesser visited corners of a popular universe. And after the success of its riveting anime anthology, the galaxy far, far away is back with more bitesize adventures. Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi promised to revisit the sometimes maligned Prequel Trilogy, and with the first six episodes out, it’s already proved to be a whistlestop of Lucas lore.
Whether it’s the adorable Baby Ahsoka or getting Liam Neeson back as Qui-Gon Jinn, Tales of the Jedi is a big win for this pseudo-prequel to The Clone Wars. And there’s one moment in particular that fans will be talking about long after they’ve finished these short films. The animated anthology brings back a forgotten prequels character…...

Jedi Master Yoda, Star Wars’ favorite puppet and the character whose performance could have made or broken The Empire Strikes Back, has a long history. In the real world, he’s a pop culture legend. In the Star Wars saga, he’s a 900-year old font of wisdom, strongly devoted to the light side of the Force but sometimes short-sighted. He’s Star Wars incarnate–but does he need to be in every Star Wars story?
Now that the Skywalker Saga has come to an end on the big screen, the next big Star Wars story will take place on the page in the form of The High Republic, a new series set 200 years before the start of the film saga we know and love. The High Republic includes books and comics that follow Jedi who are at the height of their powers during a time of peace for the Republic.

Lucasfilm finally unveiled Project Luminous yesterday as a publishing initiative called Star Wars: The High Republic, with all-new stories and characters in the galaxy set some 200 years before the events of the Prequel Trilogy.
After The Rise of Skywalker brought the saga to an end, be it an unsatisfying end that left much to be desired, fans were eager to know what was next for the world of a galaxy far, far away. The epic fictional universe that George Lucas created all the way back in the 80s is currently undergoing an overhaul, especially since Disney’s Sequel Trilogy didn’t do much to boost the franchise’s popularity. Well, the wait is finally over, with the latter releasing a trailer for the publishing campaign, Star Wars: The High Republic, that put a lot of burning questions to rest.
The trailer begins with the words "hundreds of years before the Skywalker saga . . ." flashing on the screen. A return to the Death Star has been in the works since the concept stage of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The trailers for The Rise of Skywalker reveal a lot and nothing at all. The central conflict is still a mystery, although we know Jedi trainee Rey will to go-to-toe with the evil Supreme Leader Kylo Ren, ending her story as it began: among the wreckage of the previous generation’s wars. Darth Maul has to be one of the best-designed creations in the whole Star Wars franchise. The character’s unique look is a large part of why he made such an impact on fans, despite being killed off in The Phantom Menace, with his popularity such that he later played a major role in The Clone Wars and Rebels animated series as well as having a surprise cameo in Solo. Who knows what would have happened if the original design for the villain had been used, though.
StarWars.com has shared an extensive oral history of the franchise, which includes comments from concept artist Iain McCaig. He recalled that Maul was described in the script for Episode I as “a vision from your worst nightmare” and McCaig drew from his own fears as he came up with how Maul should look. The result was something so disturbing that George Lucas was horror-stricken upon seeing it.

The return of Maul in Solo: A Star Wars Story was already a surprising enough moment for audiences, but imagine the shock among viewers if the Phantom Menace Sith showed up looking like the mascot for a metal band.
Lucasfilm concept designer Jake Lunt Davies recently took to Instagram with some early artwork for the character’s comeback, and it seems that both Maul’s hair and his horns could do with a trim. Meanwhile, the villain was apparently going to ditch his old cloak and decide to go shirtless for this Han Solo prequel, showing off the full red-and-black pattern on his body, along with the entirety of his robot bottom half.

One of the more ambitious ideas that Disney has implemented since purchasing LucasFilm from George Lucas is the idea of standalone spinoffs within the Star Wars universe that Lucas created. With the overriding philosophy being that Lucas created a huge canvas with his galaxy far, far away- a canvas that can be used to tell all kinds of stories- they're set to expand on the Star Wars mythos in a way that goes beyond the Skywalker saga.
So far, we've got Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and an as-yet-untitled spinoff that centers on a young Han Solo on the way.
Jammer and I have discussed several times on the Los Fanboys Podcast how these first two spinoffs don't veer far enough away from the Skywalker saga for our liking. But, still, it does at least seem like they're going to be exploring new tones and sub-genres.

At the time of going to press, the outlet didn’t disclose which actors were in contention for the coveted part of the Cloud City denizen, though we imagine more information will come to light as casting begins to heat up.
More News From The Web
What we do know is that whoever dons that glorious moustache and cape as a young Lando will star opposite newcomer Alden Ehrenreich, who closed a deal to headline Lord and Miller’s hotly-anticipated spinoff as the endearing scoundrel earlier in the year.

It has been a busy few days for "Star Wars" rumors and news, time to break it all down.
First up, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" concept artist Iain McCaig spoke earlier this month at a conference in New Zealand with tidbits from that popping online yesterday over at StarWarsNewsNet.
According to them, McCaig says Lawrence Kasdan penned the script for the "Han Solo: A Star Wars Story" standalone film before he began work on 'Force Awakens'. Of the script, McCaig said: "By far the best Star Wars script, and one of the best scripts period, that I have ever read. I laughed, I cried, I did all the things you should do when reading a good script. You're in for a treat."
He also indicated that after selling Lucasfilm to Disney, George Lucas decided he wanted to be involved and wrote a script for Episode VII which was "rejected outright" by Disney.

Venerable concept artist and all-round Star Wars veteran Iain McCaig claims Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Han Solo Anthology film boasts one of the best screenplays in Star Wars history.
Word comes by way of Uproxx, relaying McCaig’s comments from the Art and Industry of Imagination conference. It was here that the creative talent – best known for his artwork on The Force Awakens – touched base on how future films in Disney’s galactic saga are shaping up. When it comes to Lord and Miller’s origins story, it seems Star Wars fans are “in for a treat.”
More News From The Web
Uproxx cautions that McCaig’s comments are paraphrased somewhat, but the general gist of the artist’s speech still stands as a stellar vote of confidence.

Going for a standalone Han Solo flick was a ballsy move from Lucasfilm. Understandably, it seems like the go-to move if the studio wants to guarantee its investment -- Han Solo is one of the most beloved film characters of all-time, so having him in a standalone film is bound to make some serious coin. On the flip side, however, it's almost as if they've painted themselves into a corner. In creating a film that revolves around a young Han Solo, they're asking audiences to take a huge leap of faith and "forget" the memorable performance that Harrison Ford gave in four separate Star Wars flicks (three of which take place around the same time period as the Han Solo film is likely to take place).
They have since cast Alden Ehrenreich as the iconic Han Solo, and while this is great casting, there's still the hump to overcome that...

Iain McCaig has worked on both the Star Wars prequels and The Force Awakens, so it's fair to say that the concept artist knows his stuff. That's what makes his comments about the upcoming Han Solo movie so exciting, especially as the vast majority of fans so far seem to have agreed that the spinoff is pretty unnecessary, especially as Harrison Ford obviously can't reprise the role of a younger Han. "[The Han Solo movie] has by far the best Star Wars script, and one of the best scripts period, that I have ever read," he recently revealed after being asked about how the movie is shaping up. "I laughed, I cried, I did all the things you should do when reading a good script. You’re in for a treat." That's one hell of an endorsement, but it perhaps shouldn't come as too much of a surprise given the talent involved. After all,...

We all want Lucasfilm's Han Solo movie to be awesome, and the company seems to be doing everything in its power to make that come true. They hired Phil Lord and Chris Miller to direct it, they brought on Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back, The Force Awakens) and his son Jon to write it, and cast Alden Ehrenreich to star. Well, if this new rumor has any truth to it, an early draft of the script is the best screenplay of any of the Star Wars movies.
io9 points us to a report from StarWarsNewsNet in which they received a tip from one of their readers about Star Wars concept artist Iain McCaig talking about the new movie at a conference in New Zealand. As is evidenced extensively in the Star Wars: The Art Of The Force Awakens tie-in book, J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars Episode VII went through one hell of a concept-development phase. Before they settled on Kylo Ren, Rey, Jakku and all the rest, the team at Lucasfilm had spit-balled a ridiculously huge amount of ideas.
Kylo wasn’t always in it, potential cameos from previous Star Wars stars were suggested, and even the planets and spaceships underwent several iterations of existence. And although the finished Force Awakens film came out pretty darn well (despite a few criticisms of it being too familiar), there are loads of great ideas that got left behind.
Prepare yourself for some scary baddies, intriguing locations and unique vehicles, then, because here are ten unused The Force Awakens concepts that really need to be revisited at some point…

In 2018, loveable scoundrel Han Solo will get his own standalone adventure (or solo movie, if you prefer). Since 1977, the scruffy nerf-herder’s been synonymous with the actor who so perfectly brought him to life, Harrison Ford; indeed, it’s now difficult to imagine anyone else in the role.
At one point in Star Wars’ casting, Christopher Walken was one of the actors in contention for the role. As Kevin Spacey highlighted in his sublime impression of Walken as Solo, the character - and Star Wars history in general - would have been very different had Ford not won the part.

Episode VIII is due out in time for the Star Wars 40th anniversary. Here's what we know so far, plus a bit of speculation about its events.
Nb: The following contains potential spoilers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and speculation about Episode VIII.
"In the middle act of a movie or a book or anything else, not much happens. It sort of evolves the story, makes the plot more complicated." - George Lucas on The Empire Strikes Back
Disney may have had a lot riding on Star Wars: The Force Awakens - essentially, the future of an entire franchise - but next year's Episode VIII brings potentially nail-biting risks of its own. It will, after all, have to follow on from the success of The Force Awakens - currently the third biggest film of all time in terms of ticket sales - and will also draw...

Warning: This post contains Spoilers about the plot of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Read on at your own risk.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" featured plenty of characters from previous "Star Wars" films, including some in well-concealed cameos. But according to a new book, there was one more familiar face originally slated to make an appearance, which was ultimately scrapped.
Concept artist Iain McCaig revealed in the book "Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens" that he was commissioned to create some images of Anakin Skywalker for the flick, though the artwork he designed never actually made it onto the big screen. The book indicates that the character was set to appear as a Force ghost (like the glowing Obi-Wan and Yoda at the end of "Return of the Jedi"), though the context of that appearance is never explicitly explained -- nor is it determined if Anakin would appear in his Jedi form,...

Of all the classic characters who were anticipated to appear in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Anakin Skywalker probably ranked near the bottom. That's largely because his character arc in the prequels was, at best, problematic; neither Jake Lloyd in The Phantom Menace nor Hayden Christensen in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith were able to deliver performances that captured the hearts of fans worldwide. But the young boy that grew into the troubled man who would become Darth Vader lingered in the imaginations of the filmmakers charged with making the seventh installment in the series and early plans featured the return of the character. According to the new book The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens (via Cinema Blend), concept artist Iain McCaig suggested...

Spoiler alert etc. etc. If you're anything like me, you spent the entirety of The Force Awakens thinking, "Boy, this is good, but it could really use some Hayden Christensen right about now!" It took all the strength in your body not to scream, "Give us Hayden! The people demand it!" at the screen, right? It's painful now to realize how close we were to getting our Hayden Christensen fix. According to Star Wars concept artist Iain McCaig, the Attack of the Clones star was at one point going to cameo in The Force Awakens … as a spooky dad spirit. "'When you light a candle, you also cast a shadow.’ That inspired me to propose, for the first time, that Anakin’s ghost could come back," McCaig explains in the film's concept-art book Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The resulting artwork depicted Christensen as an ominous Darth Vader hybrid,...

It looks like early on in the development process of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the filmmakers were considering and appearance by Anakin Skywalker’s force ghost. The possibility was real enough to have some concept art created for the character. The art you see here was found in the recently released The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens Book (via MakingStarWars).
I do like that the concept art implements some of the elements of Darth Vader's darkness into Anakin’s look. There have been rumors that Hayden Christensen could reprise his role as Akakin in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII. The fact that this concept art exists tells us that this could very well still be a possibility. If the art was released in this art book, though, then I imagine it’s not the final look that they would use if Johnson does plan on...

A new book has revealed that fallen Jedi Anakin Skywalker was mooted to feature in Jj Abrams’s blockbuster, as a Lucasfilm producer lets slip the film might have been titled Shadow of the Empire
The new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, might once have featured Canadian actor Hayden Christensen reprising his much-maligned turn as fallen Jedi knight Anakin Skywalker, according to newly revealed concept art.
The image of Christensen as Skywalker has emerged in a new book titled The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Artist Iain McCaig tells author Phil Szostak he imagined Anakin returning from beyond the grave to haunt his descendants.

A while back, we heard some rumors that stated Hayden Christensen, who portrayed Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels, had been working with the stunt team on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Of course, the character was nowhere to be seen in the movie, but if the Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens book is to be believed, the filmmakers originally planned to include him.
As you can see from the photos in the gallery below, which are taken from the book, concept artist Iain McCaig says that he initially proposed having the Force Ghost of Anakin appear in Episode VII. While that obviously didn’t end up happening, fans are speculating that the character could show up in Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII instead.

It’s been almost a year since the sixth and final season of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” came out on Netflix as a truncated 13-episode arc rebranded as “The Lost Missions.” From introducing the concept of Order 66 to the deterioration of Anakin and Padme’s marriage, the show finished setting the stage for the events of “Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.” But while most of the season focused on getting the major players into their respective places, a handful of new characters were introduced. Among them were Jedi Knights Tiplar and Tiplee. The sisters were introduced during a pitched battle with the droid army in "Episode One: The Unknown” and they look unlike any alien species in the “Star Wars” universe. Floating tendrils of “hair” give them a Medusa-like appearance, though we never discover if Tiplee (the red-skinned sister) has cut her locks or if they...

Darth Maul is the Star Wars villain everyone loves to hate. Here's what you need to know about the former Sith and crime boss!
This Star Wars article contains spoilers.
From the Prequel Trilogy to Star Wars Rebels, Darth Maul just won't quit. The short-lived villain from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace became a standout fan favorite because of his appearance and acrobatic lightsaber moves, and after his return in season four of The Clone Wars, he moved into other mediums like the four-part Son of Dathomir comic series.
His surprise resurgence in Rebels brought the villain to a whole new era of Star Wars, as Maul clashed with the heroes of the early Rebellion. His particular interest in young Jedi apprentice Ezra Bridger made for quite a few interesting appearances. In his final episode, Maul faced off against his old nemesis, Obi-Wan Kenobi, under the twin suns of Tatooine.

Directed by Jon Favreau, the film is a mix of live action and VFX that is being overseen by Rob Legato, whose VFX credits include Avatar, The Wolf Of Wall Street, Hugo and Titanic, the latter two of which won him Oscars. The studio has bolstered its creative team by setting as its production designers Alex McDowell (Man Of Steel, Rise Of The Guardians) and Chris Glass heading a team of concept artists that includes Michael Kutsche (Alice, Oz, Maleficent), Iain McCaig (Star Wars), and Justin Sweet (Chronicles Of Narnia). The story team is headed by Iron Man‘s David Lowery, who’s working around the clock with seven full-time illustrators, with Legacy Effects participating in creature design and rigging.

Jurassic Park IV is now officially Jurassic World (which I assume will be a movie version of all the books adapted at once), and it’s firmly nestled in the overcrowded bosom of 2015. It’s an ambitious title because it evokes a global terror that could be World War Z with dinosaurs, and that’s a hell of a promise to make to fans, but here’s one way to deliver right out the gate. Per Movies.com, Iain McCaig made this concept video for a videogame with the same name, but with the high-dollar CGI treatment, it could make for an excellent opening sequence to the new film. It feels a little weird to say it, but this video does for the ocean what Jaws did for the ocean. But with Pterodactyls. You thought they were taking the surfer back to the nest to feed to the pups, too, right...

This is awesome. But, before we all get too excited, we need to be abundantly clear: this is not an official trailer for Jurassic World. If you expect to see this on the big screen in 2015, you're probably going to be disappointed. That's because this is a pitch trailer; meaning it was created by someone solely with the purpose of landing a job working on Jurassic World. In this case it was created by Iain McCaig, the concept artist who designed Darth Maul for George Lucas. He showcased the video at a recent Star Wars convention in Germany, which is where...

Just below is a piece of video that, according to the YouTube poster, played as part of Iain McCaig's presentation at the recent Star Wars Celebration Europe II convention in Germany and the assumption is that it is a pitch reel for Jurassic World (aka Jurassic Park IV), which was recently dated for a June 12, 2015 release. When asked on Twitter if the footage was tied to the new movie or concept from a trashed Jurassic Park video game, all producer Frank Marshall said was that the scene is "not a part of the movie." So, whether or not it is part of the concept for the film remains to be seen, but it does end with the film's title, albeit not the title treatment you see above. Obviously, the title Jurassic World instead of Jurassic Park suggests the dinosaurs are no longer contained to a small island, but instead...

Yesterday it was announced that Jurassic Park 4 would be called Jurassic World. Today there's some kind of pitch trailer for the film that has hit the internet. Some people are saying it's for the movie, others are saying it's for a cancelled video game. Producer Frank Marshall clarified things on his twitter account, saying that this isn't part of the film, but it's still a fun watch! The special effects aren't the best, and it looks like one of those laughable Asylum movies. Here's a note from the guy who posted the video,
"All I can say is this video was shown as part of Iain McCaig's presentation at the recent Star Wars convention in Germany (he's the fantastic concept artist and designer of Darth Maul). I can only presume it was part of a pitch for reigniting the Jp movie franchise, if anyone can confirm please let me know.

Just after last night's news that Jurassic Park 4 had been given a June 12, 2015 release date with the official title of Jurassic World, we now have a tease of what we might be able to expect from the sequel, but that speculative at this point. Concept artist Iain McCaig, responsible for designing villain Darth Maul for George Lucas in The Phantom Menace, showed up this pitch reel for the dinosaur sequel at a Star Wars convention in Germany. Just so we're clear, this is not footage from the actual movie, and this is a reel created by McCaig as an effort to get a job working on the Universal project from director Colin Trevorrow. However, it might give us some insight on the kind of action we can expect in the film. Watch!
