Judy Nugent, the former ’50s child actor who co-starred with Jane Wyman in Magnificent Obsession, Annette Funicello in the popular Annette serial on ABC’s The Mickey Mouse Club and flew in the arms of George Reeves’ Superman in a 1954 episode of The Adventures of Superman, died of October 26 cancer, surrounded by family at her ranch in Montana. She was 83.
Her death was announced in a family statement released by daughter-in-law Anne Lockhart, the Chicago Fire actor and daughter of Lost in Space star June Lockhart.
A Los Angeles native – she was the daughter of MGM prop man Carl Nugent – Nugent had already appeared in a handful of uncredited roles, including in the 1951 film Angels in the Outfield, when she landed her breakthrough role as Donna Ruggles in the 1949-52 TV series The Ruggles, an early family sitcom starring comic actor Charles Ruggles (Bringing Up Baby). Judy Nugent, who portrayed one of the twins on the early TV sitcom The Ruggles and a girl who flies around the world in the arms of the Man of Steel on a heartwarming Adventures of Superman episode, has died. She was 83.
Nugent died on Oct. 26 “surrounded by family at her Montana ranch after a short battle with cancer,” according to a family statement shared by her daughter-in-law and Battlestar Galactica and Chicago Fire actress Anne Lockhart (the older daughter of Lassie and Lost in Space star June Lockhart).

A federal judge has dismissed Frances Fisher’s lawsuit against SAG-AFTRA, in which the actress accused the union and several of its former and current leaders of breaching their duty of fair representation over the raising of eligibility requirements for coverage under the SAG-AFTRA Health Plan

Fisher, who is first vice president of the union’s Los Angeles Local and a member of its national board of directors, named former SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris, national executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, former national executive director David White, chief contracts officer Ray Rodriguez and several other SAG-AFTRA officials as defendants. The best fan-made web-series, Star Trek Continues, returns with a new episode. Like the original Star Trek show it’s based on, it doesn’t shy away from controversial issues. Does the latest episode “What Ships Are For” maintain the series’ quality?
“What Ships Are For” is the ninth of a planned 11 episodes of this excellent show, and it’s too bad it will be coming to an end soon because it’s far and away the finest fan-made web show in production. What makes it so good is its fidelity to the classic 1966-1969 Star Trek TV series, which worked as a metaphor for socio-cultural issues of the day. (Something missing from the recent Jj Abrams films). Star Trek Continues also dives into a hot-button issue by tacking the subject of refugees.
In this episode, the crew of the Enterprise answer an Sos and find a society that is literally color blind,...

Steve Martin has been making people laugh so hard for so long that some — especially younger audiences — might not fully appreciate just how pure and fresh his early comic work was. Before the Oscars, before Father of the Bride, before Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, even before The Jerk, Martin was a total force of nature whose main platform was television, beginning with writing for the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. In his wild and crazy prime, an appearance by Martin on Johnny Carson or other primetime showcase was insane, yet so carefully crafted. When he hosted Saturday Night Live or had a stand-up special,...

Wow what a weekend we all had at Comicpalooza 2011! I want to personally give a huge thank you to John Simons, Jody Pitts and the entire Comicpalooza team for everything!

Anne Lockhart is best known for her character on the original Battlestar Galactica series playing the spunky and very hot Sheba. She’s been involved in so many other projects on film and TV but the one thing that has followed her around is BSG. She has also had a very impressive career doing voice over and Adr work from shows like Law and Order: Svu to movies like Aliens vs. Predator – Requiem, even the Hannah Montana movie and even Buried. She’ll be attending Comicpalooza on Memorial Day Weekend, May 27-29 in Houston, Texas so be sure and go say hi to her. Via First Showing, here’s a new teaser poster for Ryan Reynolds’ “Buried”. Hey, it’s not “The Green Lantern”, but what the hey, it’s the next closest thing, I suppose. Paul Conroy (Ryan Reynolds) is a civilian U.S. truck driver delivering food in Iraq who wakes up to find himself trapped in a coffin with limited air. Slowly, he remembers how he got there: after an attack by a group of Iraqis that kills many of his co-workers, he was abducted, and now find himself in his predicament. As Paul struggles to survive in the claustrophobic confines of the coffin, his captors attempt to get ransom for his release. With only a lighter and a cell phone inside the coffin with him, it’s a race against time to escape the tight confines of his death trap. The eleventh and last part (W-z) of my extensive 2010 preview guide I'm still at work on and should be hitting the site either Tuesday or Wednesday. Before that though it is time to plug a few holes.
With release dates always in flux, there is no true definitive list of films opening this year as the number of titles change day-by-day and many aren't really locked in yet. As a result, there's definitely been some guesswork assembling this list, albeit carefully considered and researched to try and fit in what will come out, what's important enough, and what can be reasonably done.
However, there are always titles that slip through the cracks. Thankfully some ever vigilant readers have been keeping an eye out and sent in some suggestions of key projects I've missed. Not everything can be included of course, otherwise this list would take forever, but there are fourteen...

Fans of Sci-Fi's popular Battlestar Galactica TV show are looking forward to the last episode, but they're also dreading the void that the series' absence will leave. Though the network is moving ahead with the prequel series Caprica, the traditional characters won't be part of it. News has now leaked out that a new movie is in the works. Curiously, it won't be based on the current series.
