Chad Michael Murray is open to returning to the Freaky Friday sequel and reprising his role of Jake alongside Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.
In a new interview, the actor said he would like to be involved in the sequel film currently being developed by Disney.
“If Jake has a story to tell, I’d be there in a heartbeat,” Murray told E! News while promoting Mother of the Bride. “Are you kidding me? Just to watch Jamie and Lindsay, to go back to work… To watch all that energy that Jamie brings to set… Hollywood royalty, period.”
Murray said he “learned so much” from Curtis on the set of the 2003 film and added, “If I had the opportunity, I would just dial in.”

Freaky Friday 2 is moving ahead at Disney with Nisha Ganatra directing, here are the details we’ve got of the follow-up.
While Jamie Lee Curtis is of course a horror icon from the Halloween franchise, and she won an Oscar in 2022 for her performance in Everything, Everywhere All At Once, Freaky Friday, the beloved body swap film in which she starred opposite Lindsay Lohan, is a terrific comedic performance.
Based on the book by Mary Rodgers, the 2003 film, a remake of the 1976 film of the same name which starred Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, follows Tess Coleman (Curtis), a single mother and uptight psychiatrist, and her rebellious teenage daughter, Anna (Lohan). Constantly at odds with each other due to their differing perspectives on life, they find themselves magically swapping bodies after a mysterious fortune cookie incident at a Chinese restaurant. As Tess wakes up in Anna’s body and vice versa,...

Long since circling in the rumoursphere before Disney confirmed it was in development last year, a sequel to 2003 body-swap comedy Freaky Friday took a big step forward with the hiring of Nisha Ganatra to direct the reunion of Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. The pair would return as mother-daughter duo Tess and Anna Coleman.
Though The Hollywood Reporter brings word of Ganatra (who has worked on the small screen likes of Welcome To Chippendales and movies including Late Night) boarding to direct and that Dollface's Jordan Weiss wrote the most recent draft of the script, few other details have emerged. It'll clearly have more body-swap chaos (and there are hints of other generations in the Coleman family involved this time), but we're going to have to wait and see how it all goes down.

After 21 years, one of Disney’s most bizarre yet memorable comedies is getting a sequel. The 2003 version of Freaky Friday, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, is getting a long-awaited follow-up. It was announced last year that the pair were hoping to reunite for another go, and now the film is entering pre-production with Nisha Ganatra (Director of Welcome to Chippendales) set to direct.
To celebrate the occasion Curtis shared a picture of her, along with Lohan, to her Instagram with the text “Duh! Ffdeux!” in the description.

The story of Freaky Friday began with the 1972 novel of the same name by author Mary Rodgers. Not long after, Disney scooped up the film rights and has since made multiple adaptations. The first film was made in 1976 and starred Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris, with Rogers as the screenwriter.

Freaky Friday 2 now has a director attached!
The Freaky Friday sequel will be directed by Nisha Ganatra, according to multiple reports Friday. (Rolling Stone is out to reps for Ganatra and Disney.) Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are reportedly in talks to reprise their roles.
Ganatra recently directed two episodes of Hulu’s Welcome to Chippendales, along with 2020 film The High Note starring Dakota Johnson and Tracee Ellis Ross and 2019’s Late Night with Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson.
Lohan confirmed earlier this month that the film was on the way.

For one glorious and weirdly prolonged moment in the early 2000s, audiences simply couldn't get enough of body-swap comedies. Two extremely different people from very opposite walks of life magically turned into each other overnight! They looked the same and talked the same, but deep down they weren't who they seemed to be! Hijinks ensued!
Because Hollywood is absolutely no fun and more or less stopped letting movie stars do their thing, this trend died out with a whimper over time ... but maybe it's now getting the comeback it deserves? Rather than something new and original, however, Disney is going back to the drawing board and resurrecting 2003's Millennial classic "Freaky Friday." I guess we'll take what we can get at this point. The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop on a new sequel in the works, finally gaining traction over 20 years after the original. That's not all, though. This Friday just got a little bit freakier for millennial Disney fans: “Freaky Friday 2” has a director attached, which means, yes, it’s happening. “Late Night” director Nisha Ganatra (“Welcome to Chippendales”) is ready to get to work behind the camera, The Hollywood Reporter wrote, with Og stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in talks to return in front.
The “Freaky Friday” sequel has been one the Hollywood’s worst-kept secrets, but still, nothing is official until it is.
“Freaky Friday 2” is very much on trend. The film will join a whole slew of sequels set 20-plus years after their initial (respective) releases. There was already the new (musical) “Mean Girls,” and sequels to “John Tucker Must Die” and “The Princess Diaries” are in the works. (It’d be the third “Princess Diaries” film.)

2003’s Freaky Friday was a major box office success and stands as a fan favorite amongst a certain Disney-loving demographic, so it’s a bit of a surprise there hasn’t been a sequel. But with recent rumblings from its leads, a proper Freaky Friday 2 may be closer than ever. While promoting her new Netflix movie, Irish Wish, Lindsay Lohan told Andy Cohen on his Sirius Xm show that a follow-up to the 2003 film (which Quentin Tarantino loves) is happening.
While she was mum on the details, she did mention that former co-star Jamie Lee Curtis is on board. “We’re both excited! I’m gonna speak for Jamie.” This would be right in line with statements previously made by Curtis. Back in 2022, she told People, “There would be nothing I would love more, honestly, than to be able to work with her again, share our time again, and now...

Ron Haffkine, a Grammy-winning record producer and manager known for his work with Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show, has died. He was 84.
Haffkine died Sunday at his home in Mexico after a brief bout with leukemia and kidney failure, his friend of 50 years, music executive Joel Diamond, told The Hollywood Reporter.
“Ron always had an uncanny knack of hearing a hit song in its rawest stage and the rare talent to couple it with the best musicians and then top it off with a meticulous performance by the artist,” Diamond noted.
Haffkine was instrumental in getting Dr. Hook signed by Clive Davis at Columbia Records in the 1970s, and the band led by Dennis Locorriere, George Cummings, the eyepatch-wearing Ray Sawyer and Billy Francis would compile a string of hits that included “Sylvia’s Mother,” “Cover of the Rolling Stone,” “Sharing the Night Together,” “When You’re in Love With a Beautiful Woman,...

Jamie Lee Curtis "saved" 'Freaky Friday' because of her "chemistry" with Lindsay Lohan. The 64-year-old actress was drafted into the 2003 Disney comedy to play a mother who switches bodies with her teenage daughter just days before filming began and now director Mark Waters has recalled how the two stars were "not scared" to approach the movie with an "aggressive energy."He told The Hollywood Reporter: "[Curtis’ casting] ended up, I think, saving the movie because her energy and also her chemistry with Lindsay … the two of them have a lot of like aggressive energy, and aggression is funny. If you’re kind of playing comedy in a way that’s shy and non-confrontational, it’s never that good. But the two of them were not scared to get into it with each other, and that made it really work well."The comedy - which was a remake of the...

Disney’s 2003 version of Freaky Friday almost looked very different.
Annette Bening and Michelle Trachtenberg were first cast as mother and daughter in the remake of the 1977 film that saw Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster switching bodies on Friday the 13th. But Trachtenberg couldn’t get out of her commitment to shoot Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Bening dropped out shortly before production began.
Producer Andrew Gunn recalls that Nina Jacobson, then president of Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group, happened to see Jamie Lee Curtis in True Lies on TV and suggested her for the updated role of the therapist mom Tess, who gets trapped in the body of her teenage daughter Anna, an aspiring musician, after they each open a magical fortune cookie.
And while Lindsay Lohan’s audition for the part of Anna hadn’t been stellar, she had already proved herself in Disney’s 1998 remake of The Parent Trap.

After two decades, actresses Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are in talks to reunite for a sequel to the hit body-swap comedy ‘Freaky Friday’. The sequel is in the works at Disney, with Lohan and Curtis expected to reprise their roles as mother-daughter duo Anna and Tess Coleman. Rumours started circulating about a potential sequel in February, when Curtis posted a photo of her and Lohan on Instagram with the caption, “It’s Friday. I’m just sayin! Freaky fingers crossed!”

Alfred Hitchcock is one of the most important and influential directors in cinema history, and anyone aspiring to become a filmmaker should do themselves a favor and study his body of work. This one man pioneered numerous filmmaking techniques still used today, shot some of the industry's most famous scenes, elevated the thriller genre to new heights, and achieved so much more than can be crammed into this paragraph. In fact, there's an argument to be made that Hitchcock's genius is so great that simply watching his movies is a fine substitute for enrolling in an expensive film school.
With a career dating all the way back to 1925's "The Pleasure Garden", it's no wonder why Hitchcock has so many classic films to his credit. "Psycho," "Vertigo," "North by Northwest," "The Birds," "Rear Window" –- it's hard to believe that all of these iconic, diverse films and others came from the same mind.

Melinda Dillon, who was nominated as Best Supporting Actress for her roles in Steven Spielberg’s “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” and Sydney Pollack’s “Absence of Malice,” has died at age 83, her family said in a public obituary.
She died on Jan. 9, but the obituary gave no cause of death.
Dillon memorably played single mother Jillian Guiler, whose son Barry (Cary Guffey), is abducted by aliens in “Close Encounters.” Like Richard Dreyfuss’s lead character, she also becomes obsessed with Devil’s Tower in Wyoming and both their quests lead them there. After running the gauntlet of military obstacles, they are the only two civilians who witness the alien ship landing in the film’s emotional finale.

Melinda Dillon, who received supporting Oscar nominations for her turns in Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Absence of Malice and portrayed the doting mom in the holiday perennial A Christmas Story, died Jan. 9, her family announced. She was 83.
Right out of the gate, Dillon earned a Tony nomination and Theatre World award in 1963 for her debut performance on Broadway as the childlike wife Honey in the original production of Edward Albee‘s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Later, the Arkansas native played two characters opposite David Carradine — Woody Guthrie’s first wife, Mary, and a dark-haired folk singer named Memphis Sue — in the biopic Bound for Glory (1976), directed by Hal Ashby; was a lesbian hockey wife in George Roy Hill’s Slap Shot (1977); and portrayed John Lithgow’s wife in the family film Harry and the Hendersons (1987).

Actor Gene Wilder and writer/director Mel Brooks had a blessed relationship, and the two of them collaborated on three of the funniest comedies of all time. In "The Producers" (1967), Wilder plays the nebbish Leo Bloom, a fearful, meticulous, and very shy accountant who is convinced by con man Max Bialystock to come out of his shell. In so doing, he is also convinced to cook the books for a flop Broadway show and embezzle the earnings. In "Blazing Saddles," Wilder plays Jim, a.k.a. The Waco Kid, a once-legendary gunfighter who has fallen into alcoholism. In "Young Frankenstein," Wilder finally took the lead, playing the embarrassed grandson of horror's famed corpse-reanimator who returns to an inherited castle to pick up the family line. Had Brooks and Wilder never made any additional films, they would still be considered invaluable cinematic geniuses for those movies alone.

There are more versions of "Freaky Friday" than the casual reader may realize. The original 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers ("Once Upon a Mattress") is about a 13-year-old girl named Annabel and her put-upon mother as they are currently living through a period of antagonism. In what might be considered a grand cosmic joke, Annabel and her mother magically swap bodies for a day -- a freaky Friday -- forcing them to live one another's lives and see how difficult the other has it. They eventually swap back having learned important lessons. The book borrows its premise from an 1882 fantasy novel by F. Anstey called "Vice Versa, or a Lesson to Fathers." Rodgers wrote two sequels, "A Billion for Boris" in 1974 and "Summer Switch" in 1982.
"Freaky Friday" was first adapted to film in 1976 by director Gary Nelson in a celebrated version starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris. Thanks to heavy rotation on TV,...

Jamie Lee Curtis is open to the possibility of reprising her 2003 Freaky Friday role opposite Lindsay Lohan in a sequel.
While visiting The View to promote her new movie Halloween Ends, Curtis was asked by Sarah Haines if she would participate in a follow-up to the film that earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy.
“I’ve already written to Disney — my friends at Disney, I’m in their new Haunted Mansion movie,” she said on the ABC talk show.
“I’m 64 years old today — not today, soon, in a month or whatever. My point is I’m wide open, creatively I am wide open,” she added.

By this time, don’t we know just about everything there is to know about Alfred Hitchcock? Few, if any, other filmmakers have had their lives and careers examined, explored and analyzed as much as has the vaunted master of suspense. So unless incontrovertible evidence were to be suddenly found that the director secretly fathered a dozen illegitimate children by as many women and personally supplied Churchill with an untraceable poison powder to drop into Stalin’s tea in Yalta, only to see the prime minister chicken out, it’s quite unlikely that much new will ever be added to his life story that we don’t already know.
But leave it to the staggeringly prolific North Irish documentary filmmaker Mark Cousins to forge a new way to approach the subject with My Name Is Alfred Hitchcock; he engaged a skilled British impressionist and comic, Alistair McGowan, to give new...

Director Gary Nelson, whose credits include live-action Disney films like "The Black Hole" and the original "Freaky Friday," as well as numerous TV episodes, has died of natural causes at the age of 87. Nelson's son confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter on Friday that Nelson had passed away in his Las Vegas home several months ago, on May 25, 2022, though the news is only just now coming to light.
Nelson was born in Los Angeles on October 6, 1934, and he first came up in Hollywood as an assistant director. Among his earliest credits are the classic James Dean film "Rebel Without a Cause" and Joseph L. Mankiewicz's 1955 film adaptation of the Broadway musical "Guys and Dolls," both of which were nominated for multiple Academy Awards. He followed this up with further Ad work on two more Oscar-nominated Westerns, "The Searchers" and "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral," before crossing over into television.

Gary Nelson, who directed the Disney films Freaky Friday and The Black Hole, served as the in-house helmer on the first two seasons of Get Smart and called the shots for scores of other shows, has died. He was 87.
Nelson died May 25 in Las Vegas of natural causes, his son Garrett Nelson told The Hollywood Reporter.
His father was Sam Nelson, who served as an assistant director on such landmark films as The Lady From Shanghai (1947), All the King’s Men (1949), Some Like It Hot (1959) and Experiment in Terror (1962) and was a co-founder, along with King Vidor and others, of what would become the DGA.

Ulu Grosbard’s whimsical psycho-drama is a Manhattan-set 8 1/2 with Dustin Hoffman as a rock star taking stock of his success while the line between reality and fantasy becomes increasingly blurry—for himself as well as the audience. The movie received mixed reviews with a lot of praise for the great supporting cast, Barbara Harris, Jack Warden, and former Bowery Boy Gabe Dell.

Robert Altman’s 1975 “Nashville” is considered one of the masterpieces of that golden decade of cinema and arguably the maverick filmmaker’s masterwork. The sprawling comedy-drama received stellar reviews, was nominated for five Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director, winning Best Original Song for Keith Carradine’s “I’m Easy” and won several critics’ honors.
But one group that didn’t like the movie was Nashville’s country-music crowd. Henry Gibson, who received a Golden Globe nomination for his glowing performance as egotistical country music star Haven Hamilton, told me in a 2000 L.A. Times interview on the movie, that the legendary Minnie Pearl “was outraged. I remember on opening night, someone asked her how she would rate the picture and she said, ‘I give it two closed nostrils.’”

Freaky – a cross between Friday the 13th and Freaky Friday (the two most famous Fridays in film) sounds like an engaging concept; but when put to screen it’s more fun, gruesome and surprisingly entertaining than I ever imagined it could be.
Director Christopher Landon is best known for his slasher take on the 90s classic Groundhog Day with his 2017 film Happy Death Day. Now he is back and this time he’s taken the 70s classic Freaky Friday, starring Barbara Harris and Jodi Foster (or you may be more familiar with the 2003 remake starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan), and again Landon is adding that slasher touch. The concept is the same as before, a good old classic body swap. Vince Vaughn is the Blissfield Butcher,...

Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie directors! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between.
Today we’re trying something new. This is the first episode of what we are calling The Final Frame. Here we will dissect the final film of a great, well-respected filmmaker, wrapped in the context of said filmmaker’s entire career. Our first subject: Alfred Hitchcock. His final film: Family Plot, starring Karen Black, William Devane, Barbara Harris, and Bruce Dern.
Released in 1976, the loose thriller-comedy was received warmly enough, though the raves were few and far between. The film performed admirably, though one wagers it has been mostly lost in the ocean of great works by the director. Only four years later, Hitchcock would pass away as he prepared to film a spy thriller entitled The Short Night,...

Body swap movies have been with us for as long as we can remember. In the original Freaky Friday from 1977, Jodie Foster's character switches places with her mom, played by Barbara Harris. In 18 Again!, it's a grandfather and his grandson. The switch always differs. It can be because of a car accident, magical potion, or a wish cast during the full moon. It can also be a demonic ritual involving a mystical blade – that's what happens in Freaky where a teenage girl switches bodies with a serial killer. This horror comedy, directed by Christopher Landon (of both Happy Death Days), written by Michael Kennedy (Fox's "Bordertown") and Landon, is a bloody feast for every slasher fan, packed with inventive deaths and campy characters. It's Friday the 13th, and for Millie (Kathryn Newton), it's just another ordinary day in high school. After her father's passing, she helps her mom,...

Rhonda Fleming died last Wednesday in Santa Monica, California. The 97-year-old actress, who had left a successful 15-year career as a leading lady in studio films 60 years ago, was correctly noted in her obituaries as “the Queen of Technicolor” because of her flaming red hair, as well as her significant presence as a film noir actress, particularly in Jacques Tourneur’s masterpiece “Out of the Past” (1947).
Her films included a number of now-acclaimed auteurist titles like Budd Boetticher’s “The Killer Is Loose,” Allan Dwan’s “Slightly Scarlet” and “Tennessee’s Partner,” and Fritz Lang’s “While the City Sleeps,” to go along with more mainstream titles like “The Spiral Staircase” and “The Gunfight at O.K. Corral.”
Unlike actresses like Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, Tippi Hedren, and others who made multiple films with Alfred Hitchcock, Fleming is less identified with the master. But he provided her with her breakout role in 1945’s “Spellbound.

“Adult With Sidekick”
By Raymond Benson
Perhaps what might have been an unexpected Oscar nominee for Best Picture of 1965 was A Thousand Clowns, an adaptation of the Broadway play written by Herb Gardner (who also penned the screenplay and was nominated for his work). Fred Coe had directed the stage production, which garnered Tony nominations for Best Play, Best Featured Actor, and awarded Sandy Dennis a trophy for Featured Actress. Just about everyone involved in the Broadway production went on to make the film, also directed by Coe, except, oddly enough, Dennis. Martin Balsam is also new to the film, replacing Larry Haines, and Balsam walked away with an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Jason Robards’ savvy brother and manager.
While Jason Robards (Jr.) as Murray Burns is the tale’s protagonist, it is indeed young Barry Gordon as Murray’s nephew,...

Disney Plus has been off to a very hot start since it first premiered a little over a month ago, both thanks to its original programming and a heavy reliance on nostalgia. The streaming service already has plans to reboot many of its older fan favorites, too, including Lizzie McGuire and Hocus Pocus. And now, we’re hearing that that list also apparently extends to Freaky Friday.

Six random things that happened on this day (June 11th) in showbiz history
1966 On a Clear Day You Can See Forever starring the great Barbara Harris and John Cullum closes on Broadway shortly before the Tony Awards, where it will lose all three of its nominations. It was snubbed in Best Musical where Man of La Mancha won and Mame, Skyscraper, and Sweet Charity were all nominated. Nevertheless it was quicker than all but Sweet Charity in getting a big screen adaptation. Barbra Streisand starred.
1969 Peter Dinklage is born (Happy 50th!). Do you think he's headed for a fourth Emmy win for Game of Thrones? Do you remember the first time you saw him? For us it was The Station Agent (2003), such a gem from the early Aughts...

For Sunday’s Oscars 2019 ceremony, producers had a difficult decision of which film industry people would make the cut and who would be left out of the “In Memoriam.” For the segment, Gustavo Dudamel and the L.A. Philharmonic performed music by Oscar winner John Williams.

SEEDirector Stanley Donen, dead at 94, was light on his feet and a movie musical heavyweight
Stanley Donen would have certainly been included, but he died on the weekend after the segment had been finalized (look for him on the 2020 show). Here is list of some of the people included in the Memoriam tribute for the ceremony (Academy members are indicated with ** by their names):

While Academy Awards producers have strived for a much shorter ceremony this year, the annual “In Memoriam” segment will definitely remain. In fact this moment on Sunday’s 2019 event should be extra classy since Gustavo Dudamel and the L.A. Philharmonic will be performing as part of the tribute.
Over 100 Academy members or film industry veterans died in the past 12 months. But which ones will be featured in the short segment? There are generally outcries each year from family members upset about people being left out. Visit our own Gold Derby memoriam galleries for the year of 2018 and the newly-started gallery for 2019.
Virtually certain to be part of the montage are Oscar-winning directors Bernardo Bertolucci and Milos Forman, Oscar-nominated actors Carol Channing, Albert Finney and Burt Reynolds, director and actress Penny Marshall, executive producer and entertainment icon Stan Lee and many more.
SEEDana Carvey, Mike Myers, Queen Latifah, Barbra Streisand...
