That’s how “I’m a Virgo” creator Boots Riley pitched his latest show to actor Jharrel Jerome. “This is the wildest title to an email I’ve seen. I don’t know what he’s talking about,” Jerome tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast. A week later, Riley was in his hotel room, with a briefcase painting a picture of how this show would look like – and he had mini figurines so Jerome could have a visual.
And yes, Jerome was concerned, he thought he’d be acting in front of a green screen all day long. But that wasn’t the case. Riley — who had the entire show mapped out in his mind, long before the streaming service was involved — wanted to do everything practical and in-camera. For this conversation, Kristen Wiig and Jon Hamm reunited only two weeks after appearing together on “Saturday Night Live” — Wiig, a regular on the show from 2005 to 2012, joined the Five-Timers Club as the host, and Hamm, her co-star in “Bridesmaids,” appeared as a special guest. The pair had plenty to celebrate: This past season, Wiig starred as a would-be socialite trying to claw her way into the in crowd on Apple TV+’s “Palm Royale.” Hamm also played a gleefully ambitious character for Apple, as an Elon Musk-type billionaire attempting to become a media mogul on the third season of “The Morning Show.” But an even bigger turn came with Noah Hawley’s “Fargo” from FX, where his devious Sheriff Roy Tillman runs roughshod over all those in his way — after making a very memorable entrance.

After a tumultuous relationship with Jennifer Aniston’s character on The Morning Show, Jon Hamm isn’t quite ready to give up on the love story between Alex Levy and his tech billionaire Paul Marks.
At the end of season three, after what looked to be a promising romance, the two parted ways as Alex discovers he was blackmailing Reese Witherspoon’s Bradley Jackson, and sabotages his deal to buy Uba after uncovering some secrets within his company.
At an Emmys For Your Consideration event for the show on Sunday, Hamm noted that when they started talking about bringing his character into the show, “the discussion was, what does this look like when two very successful, competent, excellent, unprecedented people undo one another? What does that look like? Where are you when you’re after 50 and you’ve done all of the things and what do you want?...

Lamorne Morris’ three-year-old daughter is getting used to seeing her dad’s face all over town. Morris is the spokesperson for Bmo bank, which recently arrived in Southern California with an advertising blitz — all with Morris’ face on it.
Now, the actor says she’s ready to start her creative career as well. Sort of. He tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast that whenever his daughter gets in trouble at school, they send her home a bit early and she gets to join her dad at work. And that’s where the fun begins.
“She’s now quite accustomed to being on set,” Morris said. “When the Ad will say quiet on set or rolling, she will start to let everyone know that it’s time to be quiet on set. So much so that she’s now the loud one. She won’t stop screaming: ‘Quiet on set!'...

Apple TV’s flagship series “The Morning Show” returned last fall with its third season and with it comes the show’s best cast to date. Nicole Beharie, Jon Hamm, Tig Notaro, and Stephen Fry all joined the cast while mainstays Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Billy Crudup all turned in their best work yet.
However, it’s the show’s supporting players, who have been here since day one, that makes the series so good. Karen Pittman is a prime example of that. The series depicts the behind-the-scenes drama of a US morning TV show and Pittman plays Mia Jordan, a key producer of said show. Pittman has always been an actress who possesses a powerful screen presence and that is true here, too. She captivates audiences (and the other actors) but also smartly sews vulnerability into a character who has some power in the show.

In Season 1 of “The Morning Show,” Cory Ellison (Billy Crudup) is the cutthroat head of Uba’s news division who keeps his cards close to his vest and walks in and out of rooms grinning like a Cheshire cat. Cut to Season 3 and he’s still ruthless, enigmatic and grinning his way through all kinds of high-stakes situations, but he’s now the CEO of the fictional Uba network and has, most importantly, been brought to the fore of the Apple TV+ drama’s story. While his enlarged presence in the third season offers viewers more insight into the character, Crudup wasn’t quite sure what to think of it at first.

Comedian and director Jerry Seinfeld, 70, shared his thoughts on evolved perceptions of masculinity.
Seinfeld, who just released his directorial debut film Unfrosted, which is set in the 1960s, expressed his fascination with the “agreed-upon hierarchy” that he believes has been “vaporized” in the present day. He suggested that this loss of a clear social structure has contributed to the erratic and chaotic behavior he observes in modern society, such as aggressive driving.
“I think that is why people lean on the horn and drive in the crazy way that they drive: because we have no sense of hierarchy,” Seinfeld said in a new interview on the Honestly with Bari Weiss podcast. “And as humans, we don’t really feel comfortable like that.”
“If you want to talk about nostalgia, that is part of what makes that moment attractive looking back,” Seinfeld remarked about the period of his childhood. He fondly described figures from that era,...

Last year, a bidding war was going down between Netflix and Amazon for a lucrative package deal. The two streaming giants were in a fight to acquire the film rights to the novella by Don Winslow called Crime 101. The package deal had included two attached stars — Chris Hemsworth and Pedro Pascal. Although, Pascal has now reportedly been replaced by Mark Ruffalo. It also has a director set to helm the project with Bart Layton, whose credits include the documentary The Imposter from 2012 and American Animals from 2018. Amazon had come out as the victor and according to Deadline, Saltburn and Masters of the Air star Barry Keoghan will now join the heist film.
Crime 101 is said to be a crime drama in the vein of Michael Mann’s Heat. The plot of the film has yet to be released; however, Deadline’s summary of the novel reads that “the...

Deadline reports that Chris Hemsworth is in talks to star in the long-awaited crossover movie between the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises, which was first teased in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. As we know, Hemsworth is already part of the Transformers universe as he’s voicing Optimus Prime in Transformers One, the upcoming animated movie about the origins of Optimus Prime and his future nemesis, Megatron.
There have been rumblings of a live-action crossover between the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises for quite some time, but the first steps were taken in Rise of the Beasts. The line-up for the new series of Variety’s Actors On Actors has been revealed, with high profile movie performers interviewing each other.
Variety’s Actors On Actors is one of the most delightful series you can watch as a film fan. The central conceit is that two actors sit down for a natter about their work, often going off on tangents, acting as a unique insight into the industry.
Generally, the pairings are quite surprising, with the actors concerned often never having worked together and, in some cases, seeming quite random, but each one is fascinating and, usually, an absolute hoot. You can see Kate Winslet shooting the breeze with Gary Oldman, for example, or Beanie Feldstein with Florence Pugh – we are still waiting for Jason Statham to make an appearence.

Top Gun: Maverick, the long-awaited sequel to Tom Cruise’s iconic 1986 film, was a massive success following its release in 2022. Capturing the high-flying action of the original film, while also introducing a bunch of new characters, director Joseph Kosinski filled big shoes by taking over the project from Tony Scott.

Top Gun: Maverick came more than three decades after the release of the first film starring Tom Cruise in the lead, and yet, it was as much of a resounding success as the original film from 1986. However, unlike a lot of stuff and people that were brought back from the first movie in this 2022 one, legendary filmmaker Tony Scott wasn’t one because of his devastating demise in 2012.

Since the younger Scott wasn’t there, Cruise reportedly decided to approach the older and equally legendary Scott brother, Ridley Scott, to helm the second movie in his Aviation film series. However, he was surprisingly not only met with a declined request by the iconic director, with the movie going to Joseph Kosinski instead, but was even met with his film being considered mediocre by Ridley!

Bryan Cranston is a true great, and while the Argylle star is no stranger to genre fare, he's yet to star in a comic book movie or TV show.
The actor was a fan-favourite choice to play Lex Luthor for a time, but that always felt like a knee-jerk response to what a terrific job he did as a bald antagonist in Breaking Bad. Of course, we're also well-aware that many of you would love to see him portray Stan "The Man" Lee in a future biopic.
Today, we have word from scooper @MyTimeToShineH that Cranston has met with Marvel Studios about a mystery MCU role. Kevin Feige has general meetings with lots of actors, so there's nothing to say this will lead anywhere.
It's an undeniably exciting prospect, though, particularly with movies like The Fantastic Four, Avengers 5, and the X-Men reboot on the horizon.

Welcome to My Favorite Scene! In this series, IndieWire speaks to actors behind a few of our favorite television performances about their personal-best onscreen moment and how it came together.
IndieWire caught Lamorne Morris on the road. Headed to work on an unnamed set in Los Angeles, the “Fargo” Season 5 actor joked about an overcast day and rush-hour traffic. The former “New Girl” actor may be many years entrenched in the Hollywood grind, but Morris is native to Chicago. Jennifer Aniston delivered another star-powered performance in the new season of Apple TV’s flagship series, “The Morning Show.” The series follows the behind-the-scenes drama of a morning TV show in the US, with co-anchors Alex Levy (Aniston) and Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) at the center of events.
The latest season (season three) depicts Alex quite literally heading into space while she tussles with Jon Hamm‘s tech mogul as a media merger for her show’s network, Uba, bubbles away. Aniston proved herself a master of comedy with “Friends” and here shows, once again, that she has the dramatic acting chops to equal her comedic skills. Aniston is captivating every time she’s on-screen and it’s a delight to see her in one of the meatiest roles of her career, as noted by critics.

Apple TV’s flagship series “The Morning Show” returned last fall for a third season with Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon again electrifying our screens. The show initially followed allegations of sexual misconduct surrounding a male co-anchor (Steve Carell) as the #MeToo movement was explored. Later, the series delved into other political topics and current events such as racial inequality, Russia invading Ukraine, Covid-19, and the Capitol insurrection.
Our guiding lights throughout all of this are Aniston’s powerhouse Alex Levy and Witherspoon’s moral-driven Bradley Jackson. In season three, they have to contend with affairs, media mergers, tech moguls (Jon Hamm), producers, and even going into space.
Season three quite literally explored new territories and critics felt that the show hit its stride, nailing its mad-cap, ludicrously entertaining tone.
Peter Travers (ABC News) noted: “Aniston and Witherspoon, plus star newbie Jon Hamm, power up the best season yet for...

Heidi Gardner knew that “Saturday Night Live” Beavis and Butt-Head sketch was taking off after a chat with a lifelong friend.
“My friend Michelle, I’ve known her since second grade,” Gardner told IndieWire during a recent interview. “It was really cute after ‘Beavis and Butt-Head,’ she was like, ‘I loved seeing you laugh in that sketch because I know that laugh.’ And [I said], ‘Yeah, that’s because we’ve laughed like that for so many years.’ That’s what is special to me about [the sketch]. Mikey [Day] feels like a friend I’ve had since I was a kid. To get to show the world, ‘Yeah, I think this person is so funny,’ I welcome it.”
The viral sketch, which found guest host Ryan Gosling and Day as random background players who look suspiciously like the ‘90s animated comedy duo, became a standout moment on Season 49 of “SNL,” both for their ridiculous...

Before the debut episode of Friends aired on NBC in 1994, director Jimmy Burrows took the cast on a trip to Las Vegas.
"He handed us each a couple hundred bucks and said, ‘Now go into the casino and go gamble because this is the last time you’ll be able to walk into a casino anonymously,’" Jennifer Aniston recalled in a 2019 interview with Ellen DeGeneres.
"And we had no clue what he was talking about. And sure enough, that was the last time we were able [do that].”
Such was the power of network television in the '90s.
Six unknown young actors could transform overnight into a half-dozen A-listers, entirely on the strength of one popular primetime sitcom.
Eventually, those unknowns would become the highest-paid actors in the history of television, pocketing over $1 million per episode.
Years later, along with costar Reese Witherspoon, Aniston would break her own record, earning $2 million...

After his famed role as Don Draper on AMC’s critically acclaimed drama series Mad Men, Jon Hamm has experienced a particularly peculiar career transition in recent years. Also known for his work in Sucker Punch & Top Gun: Maverick, the actor, 53, has acted in both highly regarded film and TV roles during his career.

After 27 years, Demi Moore returned to the Cannes red carpet following the world premiere of her body horror The Substance, starring Margaret Qualley. Directed by French director Coralie Fargeat, the horror thriller has made waves, with critics deeming it Moore’s best big-screen role in decades.
The plot revolves around a new product, The Substance, which promises people to transform into the best version of themselves. However, it comes with a twist and the new horror is definitely not for the faint-hearted, as critics deemed it among the best films the genre has to offer.

The latest addition to Jerry Seinfeld’s repertoire, Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, claims to mix humor and nostalgia but appears to have left a sour taste for many Netflix viewers. Jon Hamm’s Mad Men Cameo Misses the Mark A controversial point in the film arises with Jon Hamm’s guest appearance as his iconic Mad Men character, Don Draper. The 49th season finale of Saturday Night Live was hosted by Road House star Jake Gyllenhaal, who previously headlined the show in 2007 and 2022. On this outing, his screen time came to about 26 and a half minutes, or nearly 42% of the episode’s running time.
Scroll down to see how Gyllenhaal stacked up against each of the show’s named performers, including musical guest Sabrina Carpenter and surprise guest Jon Hamm. Note that our screen time data is calculated using a method that prioritizes face time, meaning that any contiguous (off-screen but in-scene) moments and practically all partial body appearances do not count. Screen time in the opening credits, bumpers and goodnights are not included, nor do those portions factor into our assessment of the episode’s total running time.

This weekend, the 49th season of "Saturday Night Live" came to an end. Typically, the season finale is chock full of guest stars, and usually a big name or former beloved cast member takes the stage in Studio 8H at 30 Rockefeller Plaza for hosting duties. This time, it was the former, with "Road House" remake star Jake Gyllenhaal returning for his third time hosting the late night sketch series.
For those keeping track, Gyllenhaal's hosting duties have Taylor Swift fans buzzing, because the musical guest was "Girl Meets World" star Sabrina Carpenter, who has been opening for Swift on the international part of her Eras Tour (now available to watch on Disney+), and there's that whole drama between Gyllenhaal and Swift that resulted in a 10-minute hit song. Speaking of musical guests, Gyllenhaal got musical in his own right as he sang a Boyz II Men cover about the honor...

In these trying times, “Saturday Night Live” wants character actors of all stripes to be extra careful when walking around New York City — but Jon Hamm can relax.

Host Jake Gyllenhaal appeared as an NYPD officer urging actors to stay safe while briefing reporters about the issue.
“Just this week, national treasure Steve Buscemi was punched while walking through Kips Bay,” he said. “These types of attacks cannot and will not be tolerated. So to everyone watching, I have one important message: Stop punching character actors in the face.”

Demi Moore Reveals Landman Season 2

Speaking to Deadline, she shared that the Taylor Sheridan series is returning for Season 2 in early 2025. She also teased a bit about the premise of this new series.
It is a very interesting world in the boomtown of Fort Worth, Texas. It’s kind of this subculture that we haven’t seen before, which is what I think Taylor does so well.

There are a plenty of longtime Saturday Night cast members, yet there were no big exits — or hints of departures — on tonight’s Season 49 finale of the venerable NBC late-night program.
No SNL veterans were tearing up at the end of their sketches like Kate McKinnon did in the 2022 finale, it was all smiles and fist bumps at the curtain call, and, after another brutal joke swap, Colin Jost and Michael Che wrapped their 10th season together on Weekend Update by wishing everyone a great summer.
This was to be expected, given that no one from this year’s 17-strong troupe would willingly miss next year’s big celebrations – The Big 50.
Host Jake Gyllenhaal set the stage for what is to come in his opening monologue, noting that the finale was “the last episode before the big anniversary season.”

The recent assault on Steve Buscemi on the streets of New York City spawned a skit for SNL that featured Jake Gyllenhaal as an NYPD sergeant urging bad guys to “stop punching character actors in the face.”
Speaking at a press conference for reporters, Gyllenhaal called character actors “the life blood of the entertainment industry” and expressed concern about the assaults on these “national treasures.” He said the attack on Buscemi followed similar ones on Rick Moranis and the “shocking versatile Michael Stuhlbarg.”
He went on to define character actors as “actors who faces you can remember but names you cannot,” including anyone “who has ever been on the TV show Boardwalk Empire, you have a face that makes casting directors go ‘oh interesting,'” and “your IMDb page has over 100 entries, but all your characters just have a first name.”

The Road House actor later broke out in song to the tune of Boyz II Men’s “End Of The Road,” listing off all the people the sketch comedy series asked to host the season finale before Gyllenhaal.

McFarr was Pratt’s stunt double on some of the actor’s biggest films, including the “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Jurassic World” franchises. McFarr died May 13 at the age of 47.

The story takes place in the 14th century, “amidst the waning days of the Holy Roman Empire where Europe’s nations fiercely vie for supremacy and the ambitious Austrians, desiring more land, encroach upon Switzerland, a serene and pastoral nation.” William Tell, a formerly peaceful hunter, finds himself forced to take action as his family and homeland come under threat from the oppressive Austrian king and his ruthless warlords.
