Television shows seem well-organized and choreographed. Yet, not everything about them always goes according to plan.
For example, an incidental character sometimes steals a scene and creates memorable television history.
Then, there are the characters who take things a step further by stealing scenes repeatedly until they become the stars themselves.
Particular characters, such as Dr. Gregory House on House, are often created to be standouts. Yet, occasionally, those main protagonists are entirely overshadowed.
In rare instances, characters who were supposed to be incidental became regulars and took over entire shows.
The Fonz on Happy Days (1974-1984)
Happy Days underwent several changes, including the recasting and eventual disappearance of Chuck Cunningham's character, but Arthur (The Fonz) Fonzarelli's addition most dramatically altered the show's trajectory.
Initially, Happy Days focused on the Cunningham family, especially teenager Richie (Ron Howard). The Fonz (Henry Winkler) was a side character. However, the motorcycle-riding, leather jacket-wearing greaser soon took over.

Ron Underwood's 1990 monster flick "Tremors" is one of the better horror films of its decade and kicked off a long-running entertainment franchise that includes seven films and a 2003 TV series. It also provided horror aficionados with one of the most indelible heroes the genre has ever seen in Burt Gummer (Michael Gross), a violent, gun-toting survivalist who somehow comes across as decent, caring, and lovable. Burt Gummer was only a supporting character in the first "Tremors," but became the series' central protagonist in "Tremors 3." Gross remained devoted to the series until its end in 2020.
The monsters in "Tremors" were novel and awesome. Nicknamed Graboids, the monsters were outsize, blind, subterranean worm creatures that could burrow at amazing speeds. They were each possessed of three snake-like tongues that could pop up from the ground and grab potential victims. They sensed their prey by listening to footsteps and vibrations, leading to...

Verdi Productions, run by Chad A. Verdi, Paul Luba, Chad Verdi, Jr.
and Michelle Verdi, plans to release three films in 2024 that were previously put on hold since actors were unable to promote work during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
“Workers in the film industry are getting financially destroyed by these strikes, whether it’s actors, writers, directors or crew. Most of these individuals were already working multiple jobs to get by,” Verdi said in a statement. “This widespread production shutdown didn’t hurt the top 1% in the industry but ruined many people who work week-to-week and paycheck-to-paycheck. It’s very unfortunate to see. Let’s get our union members a fair deal so that they can get back to doing what they love.”

The Tremors 4: The Legend Begins episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? was Written by Cody Hamman, Narrated by Travis Hopson, Edited by Ric Solomon, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
The subterranean creatures known as Graboids are prehistoric life-forms. And the first Tremors movie wasn’t the story of humanity’s first encounter with them. In fact, there was a series of Graboid attacks just one hundred years earlier. Four movies into the Tremors franchise, we got a prequel that took us back to the Old West for a tale of cowboys and monsters. It’s Tremors 4: The Legend Begins (watch it Here) – which turned out to be the least successful installment in the series. We’re going to try to figure out why in this episode of What the F*ck Happened to This Horror Movie!

The 1990 creature feature Tremors is one of my all-time favorite movies – and in 1996, it received one of the best direct-to-video sequels ever made when Tremors II: Aftershocks (watch it Here) hit store shelves. Today, Arrow Video announced that they’re bringing Tremors II to 4K on November 27th, and they’re also packing the release with new special features! Copies can be pre-ordered through the Arrow Video website.
Directed by S.S. Wilson, who also wrote the screenplay with Brent Maddock, Tremors II: Aftershocks has the following synopsis: After spending all the reward money from his first encounter with the giant, man-eating worms, the Graboids, Earl Bassett agrees to hunt more deadly creatures at a Mexican oil refinery for $50,000 each. Knowing he can’t take on the monsters alone, Earl recruits Burt Gummer, another veteran of the Nevada incident, to provide the weapons. However, Graboids are evolving to attack above ground…...

When Universal Pictures released the classic creature feature Tremors (watch it Here) back in 1990, they decided to market it with poster art that brings to mind the iconic poster for Universal’s 1975 release Jaws. But before they made that choice, they had hired famed artist Drew Struzan – whose work includes the posters for Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, and Star Wars films, among many others – come up with a couple poster ideas. Yesterday, Struzan took to social media to share a look at a couple of his unused Tremors poster concepts… and you can check them out in this embed:

Back in 1990, director Ron Underwood brought us one of the greatest creature features ever made, Tremors (watch it Here). A film that introduced subterranean monsters known as Graboids and spawned a franchise that has – so far – consisted of six direct-to-video sequels and a TV series that ran for thirteen episodes back in 2003. The only cast member who stuck with the franchise through every sequel and the TV series was Michael Gross, but for the last few years Tremors star Kevin Bacon has let it be known that he wants to come back to the world of Tremors. He even starred in a pilot for a second Tremors TV series… but Syfy didn’t pick it up. While Bacon continues to “wait for the call” that will give him the chance to reprise the role of Valentine McKee, Daily Dead has discovered that Universal Pictures’ 1440 Entertainment division was recently developing a...

With Michael Gross at the helm, the original Tremors franchise released its seventh installment back in 2020, and all has been quiet on that front for the past few years. Of course, Kevin Bacon is still itching to bring that small screen “Tremors” TV series to life, but we haven’t heard of any forward momentum on that project. So what’s the latest on Tremors?
Daily Dead has done some research and they managed to dig up information on a planned Tremors reboot from director Bill Watterson (Dave Made a Maze) that never came to life.
According to Daily Dead’s Heather Wixson, Universal 1440 Entertainment was behind the cancelled reboot, and Wixson obtained some insights directly from Bill Watterson.
Wixson writes, “While Watterson couldn’t fully elaborate on any exact details surrounding the project due to legal reasons, he did confirm that the project had been greenlit by Universal...

While the Tremors franchise has never stopped churning out new entries, one actor who’s been missing from all the sequels is original star Kevin Bacon. Oddly enough, Bacon actually did reprise the role of Valentine McKee for the pilot episode of a Tremors television series that never got off the ground, which to date has never actually been released to the public.
With Michael Gross at the helm, the original Tremors franchise just released its seventh installment back in 2020. But will we ever see Kevin Bacon return to the franchise proper?
Taking to Twitter over the weekend, Bacon once again expressed interest in battling Graboids one more time as Valentine McKee, responding to a fan’s tweet to make that clear.

In the words of Kevin Bacon, "Funny-scary is a very difficult thing." The star of Ron Underwood's horror-comedy "Tremors" has spoken at length about the 1990 creature feature and his role as stubborn handyman Val McKee who, alongside Fred Ward's Earl Bassett, tries to escape the doldrums of Perfection, Nevada when giant prehistoric underground monsters interrupt their flight.
In the documentary "Tremors: Making Perfection," Bacon, Underwood, and the rest of the film's cast and crew go long on its journey from page to screen. It began as a simple concept from writers S. S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, who were collecting footage for a Navy safety video when they thought about what it would be like if something had them marooned on a rock. The story, then dubbed "Land Sharks," would be retitled "Beneath Perfection" before finally landing on "Tremors."

If you stick around in this industry long enough, you'll learn that no movie, no matter how big or how small, is immune to disaster. And bodies of water are often involved (or at least nearby).
The mechanical shark in Steven Spielberg's "Jaws" barely worked. The craft services on "Titanic" got spiked with Pcp. The 5 million floating set of "Waterworld" sank into the ocean.
You would think that filming in the desert would protect filmmakers from these aquatic inconveniences, but you would be very, very wrong. While shooting the 1990 cult horror-comedy classic "Tremors," one of the film's biggest set pieces went completely unfilmed.
Because it turns out that water, sometimes, makes things rock solid instead of soggy.

Perfection Is The Enemy Of Graboids
The original "Tremors" stars Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward as handymen in the tiny desert town of Perfection, Nevada. Nothing ever seems to happen in Perfection,...

At its core, "Tremors" is a simple movie: a tiny town in the middle of the desert is terrorized by some prehistoric, man-eating worms that attack from under the ground. It's a bit of a throwback to the classic 1950s monster movies like "Them!" and "Tarantula!" Our plucky townsfolk endure with surprisingly few casualties, and in the end, the hero gets the girl. All things considered, it's a pretty run of the mill premise on paper. And yet somehow, it not only worked, but it drew critical acclaim and, amazingly, spawned six sequels and a short-lived TV series.
So how did a modern day B-movie from 1990 not just endure, but become a bona fide cult classic with enough staying power to keep churning out installments in the franchise as recently as 2020? The first answer is that, obviously, it has one heck of a likable cast. Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward star as Val and Earl,...

The phenomenal success of "Footloose" launched Kevin Bacon into newfound stardom and recognition when it danced its way into theaters in February of 1984. Bacon had already appeared in "Friday the 13th" and Barry Levinson's coming-of-age classic "Diner," but the role of Ren McCormack essentially made the young heartthrob a household name. The surprisingly dark bike messenger drama "Quicksilver" came next, a movie I personally love that didn't exactly light the box office on fire. Working with John Hughes and Christopher Guest on "She's Having a Baby" and "The Big Picture" produced two quality films that showcased Bacon as an unconventional leading man; however, neither movie broke through to the mainstream.
The heat generated from "Footloose" was burning out, and Bacon, in a recent EW interview, admitted he wasn't doing well financially when the creature feature "Tremors" came his way.
"I was broke, I had a kid on the way,...

After a month of divergent picks ranging from John Carpenter’s made-for-tv movie Someone’s Watching Me! to Clive Barker’s sprawling Nightbreed to Michele Soavi’s Italian slasher Stage Fright to Robert Eggers’ The Lighthouse, Trace and I are ready to wrap up August with an American classic.
It’s time for Tremors, y’all!
Although the film was written and directed by SS. Wilson and Brent Maddock and directed by Ron Underwood, its behind the scenes production was guided by three powerful women, who managed to bring the creature feature together.
The movie is about two men, Kevin Bacon‘s Val and Fred Ward‘s Earl (who may be more than friends) who discover a population of massive creatures burrowing under the surface of their small desert town. With the help of young seismologist Rhonda (Finn Carter) and survivalist couple Burt (Michael Gross) and Heather (Reba McEntire!

Kevin Bacon definitely isn’t a stranger to horror or being the bad guy since he did end up being one of the many that fell victim to the killer in the first Friday the 13th, and he did star in the movie Tremors with Fred Ward and Michael Gross. He’s also starred in X-Men: First Class as Sebastian Shaw and Ripd with Ryan Reynolds, so he knows how to play the part of a villain. Any mention of Elijah Wood as the villain for the reboot of The Toxic Avenger appears to have been in error since it’s been established

Few have loomed so large and for so long over the entertainment industry as famously autocratic late billionaire Sumner Redstone, who passed last year at 97 years old after years of illness and isolation, not to mention rampant rumors of incapacitation and bitter infighting among his family and a couple of his significantly younger former girlfriends and care takers.

This 1990 monster romp still feels bright, smart & fresh, a mix of light comedy and old-fashioned scares. The entire show is one long battle against smelly burrowing beasts called ‘Graboids.’ Desert handymen Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward must work hard to avoid taking their place in the Graboid Food Chain. Ambitious it ain’t, but it delivers what monster fans want — gross-out thrills, excellent effects and solid laughs. Arrow’s 4K Ultra HD disc is as sharp as a tack, and a second Blu-ray disc contains an unprecedented volume of featurettes, interviews and production documentation.

Hello again, dear readers! We’re back for another look at this week’s horror and sci-fi home media releases, and there are quite a few titles headed home tomorrow. So, if you have any last-minute shopping you need to get done, there might be something listed here that could be helpful in that regard.
Probably the biggest release of this week is Arrow’s brand new 4K 2-Disc Limited Edition set celebrating one of the best monster movies ever, Tremors, and Warner is showing some love to The Curse of Frankenstein as well. In terms of recent horror, we have a ton of brilliant genre fare to pick from on Tuesday, including The Wolf of Snow Hollow, The Beach House, Don’t Look Back, and The Call, and Full Moon has resurrected Orgy of the Dead as well.
Suffice to say, there’s a little bit of something for everyone this week,...

As this writer continues to play post-Halloween catch up with reviews, here’s a look at two films I recently had the pleasure of checking out: His House from up-and-coming filmmaker Remi Weekes and Tremors: Shrieker Island, the seventh film in the Tremors franchise.
His House: After premiering earlier this year at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, writer/director Remi Weekes’ His House is now available to stream on Netflix. By blending together a haunted house story with his poignant examination of the dehumanizing treatment of refugees, Weekes creates a truly haunting experience where trauma and terror manifest in very personal ways, resulting in one of the most harrowing genre films to come along this year.
In His House, we follow Bol (Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù), his wife Rial (Wunmi Mosaku), and their daughter (Malaika Wakoli-Agibaba) as they are desperately fleeing a war-torn Sudan in hopes of finding a better life in the U.

Tremors: Shrieker Island is the seventh film in the comedy/action franchise and is the best film since the original Tremors. Tremors isn’t exactly the most critically acclaimed horror franchise, but it’s been going strong since its debut in 1990, and now the latest installment, Tremors: Shrieker Island, previously known as Island Fury, is upon us.
For those who don’t know, the series focuses on battles against the Graboids, a strange species of huge carnivorous sandworms who survived from prehistoric times. In this new film, several Graboids have been captured and illegally transported to a private island by a very wealthy individual looking to genetically modify them in hopes of creating the ultimate in trophy hunting prey. Obviously, though, things don’t go according to plan and it’s up to gun nut survivalist and expert Graboid hunter Burt Gummer to save the day.
If you’ve been excited to see the movie, we’ve got some good news for you, as it’s now available on Netflix to stream.

Hallmark Channel this week delivered a sentiment very different from the ones found in its parent company’s greeting cards when its executives questioned an ad showing two women getting married — and barred the commercial from running on its schedule.
Zola, a company that offers online wedding registries and wedding planning services, had been running commercials in recent days that feature a lesbian couple contemplating whether their wedding might have gone better if they had used Zola’s products. A spokeswoman for Zola said the company would remove all of its advertising from Hallmark “for the forseeable future” after being informed by the network that it would decline to run commercials from Zola featuring a same-sex couple.

Remember yesterday when we said how much Kevin Bacon still wants to make his own Tremors reboot? And that the Tremors direct-to-video sequel series was still in production? Well, apropos of the latter point, there’s been a big update now.
Filming on the prospective seventh film in the franchise, Tremors: Island Fury (also known as Tremors 7), has wrapped, ahead of a mooted release date somewhere in 2020. Bet you’re quaking with excitement, as it’s going to rock your home cinema. You’ll be trembling at the thought of it. Ok, I’m out of puns. Turns out there are only so many shaky jokes you can make (and I used that one in the previous article. Bummer).
One of the project’s principal stars, Michael Gross, took to Facebook to announce the news today, saying:

It wasn’t that long ago that we spoke about how 3 From Hell star Richard Brake was the latest to board the cast of the upcoming Tremors 7 (titled Tremors: Island Fury). He’ll be appearing alongside veteran Tremors star Michael Gross (who’s played Burt Gummer since the original film), Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) and Jackie Cruz (Orange Is The New Black) for the next installment in the monster series.
Now, it seems we’re getting our first glimpse of Brake as Bill after the actor posted a number of images (seen below) of himself in character to his Instagram account. One of the photos shows him looking the part and ready to take on the film’s token Graboid creatures, accompanied by the caption: “This is what we think of them Graboids.”
Of course, fans of Brake will no doubt be familiar with what a tremendous talent he is.

It’s hard to imagine nearly thirty years have passed since the first Tremors came out, and while Kevin Bacon was the star of the original 1990 cult monster hit, it’s really Michael Gross who’s the face of the franchise. Let’s be honest, you can’t have a Tremors sequel without Burt Gummer.
Speaking of faces, in a recent post on Facebook, Gross showed the world his new look for Tremors 7 (which is currently titled Tremors: Island Fury). It’s quite a contrast to what fans are used to as well. Now sporting long, gray hair and a full Santa Clause beard, this image of Burt is a huge departure from the mustachioed, baseball cap-wearing destroyer of subterranean beasts.
We’re not quite sure why the change in appearance has occurred, but with the actor urging us to “buckle your seat belts,” we can only imagine what it all means.

In 2012, Ty Pennington sadly said goodbye to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition after shooting the reality TV series for nine years. During every episode, Ty would race against time to build a gorgeous home for a deserving family in need. Now, six years later, he has opened up about possibly doing a reboot of the show that changed people's lives. "Absolutely!" Ty exclusively told Closer Weekly about returning to the show. "I would.
