Andrea Bocelli took the stage at the 2023 Latin Grammys to sing “Granada” wearing a golden suit as the Latin Recording Academy celebrated the song — written by Mexican composer Agustín Lara — for connecting music “beyond borders.”
As the vocalist performed the track, supported by a string ensemble, a pair of performers danced along to Bocelli’s rendition of the iconic 1932 track. When Bocelli’s performance ended, the entire room celebrated the musician with a standing ovation.

As always, there are biases at play here; my greatest interests are symphonic music, choral music, and piano music, so that's what comes my way most often. There are some paired reviews; the ranking of the second of each pair might not be the true, exact ranking, but it works better from a writing standpoint this way.
1. Brahms: Symphonies Nos. 1-4; Academic Festival Overture, Op. 80 Tragic Overture, Op. 81; Variations on a Theme by Haydn, Op. 56a; 3 Hungarian Dances; 9 Liebeslieder Waltzes; Intermezzi, Op. 116 No. 4 & Op. 117 No. 1 Gewandhausorchester/Riccardo Chailly (Decca)
It is not easy, at this point in recording history, to match the giants of the baton in a Brahms cycle, but Chailly has done it (this is my fiftieth Brahms cycle, and I have more than another fifty Brahms Firsts, and upwards of thirty each of the other symphonies outside those cycles, so I've got some basis for comparison...

Joan Sutherland may have been hailed as "the voice of the century" by Luciano Pavarotti, but other operatic voices fared far better at the Grammy Awards, where there are lots of classical categories, including one for best vocal performance. Prior to her death on Sunday at age 83, Sutherland won that prize twice. One victory was for her classic "The Art of the Prima Donna" LP in 1962. In 1981, she shared the trophy with Pavarotti and Marilyn Horne for "Live From Lincoln Center: Sutherland, Horne, Pavarotti." By contrast, Pavarotti won five times, as did Kathleen Battle. Horne and Cecilia Bartoli each won four Grammys. Reigning over all classical vocalists is Leontyne Price with 13...

World-renowned Italian mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli has one of the truly distinctive voices of the opera world, recognizable after merely a few notes. It helps to explain the "Bartoli Phenomenon" and why her recital and opera engagements around the globe consistently sell out. She first enthralled Toronto audiences with her exquisite coloratura and spellbinding virtuosity in 1993, and returns for her seventh appearance at Roy Thomson Hall on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 2pm and 7pm. She is joined by the distinguished 34-member Orchestra La Scintilla of Z?rich Opera, the same superb ensemble that accompanied Ms. Bartoli at her last Roy Thomson Hall appearance in 2005. (The 2pm concert is sold out! Tickets for the 7pm concert went on sale in December when Ms. Bartoli agreed to perform a 2nd concert the same day.)...

PARIS -- French actor Gerard Depardieu and Italian opera star Cecilia Bartoli are starring in L'Affaire Salieri, a 60-minute documentary based on the life of 18th century Italian composer Antonio Salieri, the project's executive producer Klaus Zimmermann said Wednesday. The idea for the project came from Bartoli, who plays herself singing the music of the Italian composer who was cast as the villain responsible for Mozart's death in Milos Forman's Amadeus. The 800,000 ($1 million) film is directed by cinematographer Yves Angelo. Bartoli and Depardieu have begun shooting in the Czech Republic. Zimmerman is working with French production company GMT on the film, which will be shot in both Italian and French, and German TV channel ZDF is co-producing.
