This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
It takes five minutes for “Motendo” segment of the latest episode of X-Men ’97 to reveal its big bad. A stomach-churning yellow creature covered in metal appears on screen and yells, “I am Mojo, your primetime psycho inter dimensional TV producer who feeds off ratings!”
That’s actually a pretty good description for Mojo, one of the strangest Marvel villains of all time. The “Motendo” segment finds Mojo kidnapping Jubilee and Roberto Da Costa (not yet taking his Sunspot moniker) and sending them into a video game. There, they battle various computerized baddies and garner praise from an audience, which in turn makes Mojo more powerful.
Unsurprisingly, the segment includes plenty of nods to the history of X-Men video games. And if you’re the type of person who got upset that the episode used a Snes portmanteau to describe a system that looked...

Here are the coolest horror collectibles unveiled this week!
Candy Land Blu-ray from Mvd
One of last year’s indie horror standouts, Candy Land is getting a Blu-ray release on February 5 from Mvd and Roxwell Films. Special features include a commentary by director John Swab and a digital zine.
Swab writes and directs. Olivia Luccardi, Sam Quartin, Eden Brolin, Owen Campbell, Virginia Rand, Guinevere Turner, and William Baldwin star.
In her review, Meagan Navarro said “Candy Land gives a refreshing perspective through its condemnation of religion and its positioning of sex workers as protagonists. It’s a more nuanced and lived-in approach to the sleazy slasher format, and its affecting characters elevate the familiar.”

New York Comic Con has once again rushed by in a giant, fun, crazy blur, and although I didn’t get to nearly all the things I was hoping to, I did have a rockin’ time and see some really cool things I can share.
The first of these were a few great panels I landed seats for, including, as is my tradition, the Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles panel. If you don’t know I love the current Tmnt, then what are you, new here? But seriously, I love it. And each panel I have gone to brings something new and different.
This panel (with Andrea Romano (voice director), Eric Bauza (Tiger Claw), Kevin Michael Richardson (The Shredder), Greg Cipes (Mikey), Rob Paulsen (Donnie), and Ciro Nieli (Executive Producer)) was particularly fun, because one of the things they did was a live read of episode #420, “The Super Shredder,” which...

Britain has a long, long history of staging comic conventions. The first one was held in a Birmingham hotel in 1968 which had a young Alan Moore as a guest. The success of the event paved the way for overseas guests to jump across the pond such as Frank Miller, Jim Steranko, and the late Gil Kane and appear at various events in the country.
As Ukcac became a well known convention amongst fans and creators across Britain. Held at various parts of the country, it was the stomping ground of various British creators, such guests included Will Eisner and John Buscema it gained recognition as convention organisers staged the prestigious Eagle Awards, which many Bronze age enthusiasts will recall Uncanny X-Men and Master of Kung Fu winning best dramatic comic book.

Once again I found myself in the Marvel Comics panel, and once again I had no idea what anyone was talking about. So once again I'm pretty much just transcribing my notes.*
They started out teasing the new Man Without Fear. Possible characters to assume the role include Falcon, Nova, Gambit, the Black Panther, and Craven the Hunter. The answer will be revealed at the end of Shadowland. Hulk 24, out next month, will be the last by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGinnis. It wraps up the Red Hulk saga. There will be a definite ending. Jeff Parker and Gabriel Hartman will be the new creative team. Their first arc is titled "Scorched Earth." Some of the intelligentsia doesn't check in and a doomsday protocol will go into effect. It's a redemptive arc for Red Hulk in which he teams up with Thor, Iron Man, and some other dude. I'm guessing Captain America?...

As we often do, we like to bring you previews of upcoming movies, tv shows and games. We also like to showcase upcoming comics we’re really looking forward to. Case in point is Marvel’s soon to be released second issue of Ultimate Comics X. Written by Jeph Loeb and Arthur Adams, the second issue continues the story and begins to answer the question that everyone is asking: Who, or what, is Ultimate X?
It’s not just us who are pretty excited about this book. Other critics are also raving. Here’s a sampling of what they have to say:
“This is the archetypical comic story that some readers will one day point back to and say, ‘That was the single greatest issue I ever read.’…Adams turns in phenomenally detailed yet buoyantly composed art as only Arthur Adams can deliver it”- Doug Zawisza, ComicBookResources.Com
