After over a year hiatus, Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 has begun production in Montana, as earlier promised and then revealed by Paramount Network Monday. The Western drama series approaches its close with the final episodes predicted to land in November later this year.
Four and a half seasons of the Taylor Sheridan series have followed the Dutton Family, led by patriarch Kevin Costner’s John Dutton, who oversees the largest cattle ranch in the modern-day United States. The Dutton family faces constant challenges from those at its borders — the growing Bozeman, Montana, the fictional Indian reservation of Broken Rock and America’s first national park.
With several prequel series and a contemporary spinoff in the works, the original installment was originally set to conclude at the end of 2023, but the WGA and SAG strikes delayed production on the final episodes.

Grindhouse is one of the most influential box office failures of the 21st century. Despite grossing a paltry $25.4 million at the box office on a budget of around $60 million, Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 love letter to exploitation cinema has managed to spawn four spin-off movies — Machete, Machete Kills, Hobo with a Shotgun, and now Thanksgiving— in addition to reintroducing a vintage aesthetic that has been mimicked by countless other throwback movies.
Rodriguez’s Planet Terror and Tarantino’s Death Proof each have their merits — the former plays like a satirical pastiche of nonstop action, while the latter is more indicative of genuine exploitation fare — but Grindhouse is more than just a double feature. It’s an experience, complete with faux aging to recreate the look of beat-up film prints along with vintage interstitials and retro-inspired trailers for nonexistent movies.

[This story contains spoilers from 1883, 1923 and Yellowstone season five.]
With each new series in the megahit Yellowstone franchise, a new generation of Duttons emerges. After launching in 2018 with Kevin Costner’s central patriarch John Dutton and his immediate family, creator Taylor Sheridan traveled back in time to expand the franchise and introduce elder generations of Duttons, first with the single season of 1883 and now with the series 1923, which has been renewed for a second season.
The Dutton family tree has branched out as Yellowstone has been airing, with the flagship series currently at the halfway point in its fifth and final run. First, viewers followed James (Tim McGraw) and Margaret Dutton (Faith Hill) on their family’s treacherous journey west through the Great Plains in 1883, a trek that would ultimately lead to what becomes the Yellowstone ranch of the flagship series. And later, 1923 would introduce the audience to Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren), the Duttons who...

The latest show affected by the ongoing writers strike is 1923. Filming for the second season of the Yellowstone prequel was scheduled to start earlier this month in Montana but production has now been “delayed indefinitely.”
According to a report from NBC Montana, Butte Civic Center manager Bill Melvin said he was contacted by the production of the Paramount+ series that filming had been postponed as the WGA strike continues.
Filming for the sophomore season of 1923 was due to start on Monday, June 5, and according to Melvin, production is paying $75,000 a month to use the Civic Center through the end of the year.
Creator Taylor Sheridan was already eyeing two seasons for 1923 but Paramount+ officially confirmed a second eight-episode season earlier this year to finish off the saga starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.

The following article contains spoilers for "1923."
The juggernaut "Yellowstone" started creator Taylor Sheridan's Dutton family universe. The series, set in the present day, has spawned the prequels "1883" and "1923," giving fans the tragic backstory of the ranching family in Montana. Like "1883" did with Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, who played Margaret and James Dutton, "1923" nabbed some big-name actors in Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, who play Jacob and Cara Dutton.
The saga of the Dutton family is a dark one, with James and Margaret's daughter Elsa (Isabel May) dying from an arrow wound in "1883." James dies after an attack, and Margaret freezes to death in the snow. Jacob and Cara come to take over the ranch and raise the surviving sons John (James Badge Dale) and Spencer (Brandon Sklenar). That isn't the end of the deaths, though, and John Dutton (who was played by Audie Rick...

In his "Yellowstone" prequel series "1923," Taylor Sheridan turns back time to shed further light on the Dutton family history. The Duttons have been living on the Yellowstone Ranch since the late 1800s, and ever since then, it has been an uphill battle for them to preserve their legacy, amidst constant in-fighting and external rivalries. "1923" continues the tradition of putting legacy above everything else — the story follows Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara (Helen Mirren) Dutton, who are seen shouldering the responsibility of caring for James Dutton's family alongside the ranch. This is no easy task during the Prohibition era, especially right after World War I, and the onset of what will later be known as The Great Depression.
James Badge Dale plays John Dutton I (the great-grandfather of Kevin Costner's John Dutton III (it can get confusing as there are many Johns in the Dutton family), who emerges...

Unlike the first Yellowstone prequel 1883, Taylor Sheridan’s 1923 was always meant to have a season 2. The series will return with more of the 20th-century Dutton’s story, but there’s limited information about the new season. Here’s everything we know so far.

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit horror’s own take on the Academy Awards, the Spike TV Scream Awards, which aired from 2006 through 2011 on Spike TV.
Another year has come, and it’s another year where the horror genre has been all but shut out from the most prestigious film awards, the Academy Awards. While a lot of fans don’t really give a flip about the ceremony, there is a sub-set of horror buffs that have been anxious for the genre to receive its much deserved respect and accolades. Over the years, though, some major networks have at least tried their best to offer up their own prestigious awards ceremonies to rival the majors, such as the Cable Ace Awards, and the still-running MTV Movie Awards.

This article contains spoilers for 1923 and the Yellowstone universe at large.
Taylor Sheridan is undoubtedly one of the most talented creative voices to come out of television in the past decade. Even choosing to omit his other shows outside of the Yellowstone universe, the world of the Duttons has had a combined seven and a half seasons of cowboy inspired chaos, and it isn’t even finished.
It can be argued, however, that Sheridan is beginning to spread himself a little too thin, and as a result, the first season of 1923 wasn’t as strong as some of his previous shows. There were more than a few moments that were uncharacteristic of Sheridan’s talent and reputation, and certain traps he should try and avoid for the second and final season of the prequel.

And now on with the recap of an extended episode five. To make it easier to track, this recap’s split into three parts: events in Montana, events involving the boarding school, and Spencer and Alex’s journey.

Taylor Sheridan is currently enjoying a great partnership with Paramount+. The writer/director has given the streaming platform a major hit with Yellowstone, which has now sprouted a couple of spin-off prequels in the form of tried-and-true westerns with the television series 1883 and 1923. After 1923 already broke records being the most-watched Paramount+ premiere ever with over 7 million viewers, the company would now announce that the Harrison Ford/Helen Mirren vehicle will be returning for a second season.
In a press release, the studio also prepares the audience for the continuation of the first season, “Returning this Sunday, Feb. 5th, with a new episode, the first season of 1923 introduces a new generation of Duttons led by patriarch Jacob (Ford) and matriarch Cara (Mirren). The series explores the early twentieth century when pandemics, historic drought, and the end of Prohibition all plague the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home.”

If you've been enjoying Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren on 1923, we have some good news for you.
Paramount+ has officially renewed the latest Yellowstone prequel for a second season.
The news shouldn't come as a surprise.
Deadline reported last year that franchise overlord Taylor Sheridan eyed the show as a 16-episode limited series.
With 1923 Season 1 spanning eight episodes, it was inevitable a follow-up to complete the series would be ordered.
Sheridan confirmed to Deadline in December that he managed to lock Ford and Mirren in for 16 episodes.
"Well, it's really the second half of the season," Sheridan said at the time.
"This one is different than 1883, where I had the whole thing blocked out in my head."
Sheridan notes that he went on a journey with the story of 1923, stating, "I'm the one that made the call to the network, which is probably the greatest call they ever got," he recalls.

“1923” has lassoed a second season at Paramount+.
Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” prequel stars Harrison Ford as Dutton patriarch Jacob and Helen Mirren as his Irish-born wife Cara. The series follows their generation of the Dutton family as they face pandemics, drought and the end of the Prohibition era in 1920s Montana.
“1923” proved to be a hit early on, becoming the most-watched Paramount+ premiere of all time in the U.S. with 7.4 million viewers. It also received positive reviews, with Variety critic Joshua Alston writing that “Mirren and Ford – both 80-ish, neither a stranger to action badassery – make for such a potent pairing, their chemistry alone is enough to make ‘1923’ feel like an elevated version of Sheridan’s neo-Western fare.”
In addition to Ford and Mirren, the show stars Brandon Sklenar, Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Jerome Flynn and Julia Schlaepfer.

Paramount+ is continuing its Dutton family origin story.
The streamer has renewed Yellowstone prequel 1923 for a second season after the drama’s record-breaking first season, where the premiere became the most watched series premiere on cable in 2022.
Taylor Sheridan’s series follows the ancestors of the current Dutton clan of Yellowstone and is led by Harrison Ford’s Jacob and Helen Mirren’s Cara. Paramount+’s 1923 episode four picks up hours after the doctor rushed to the Yellowstone Ranch to try and save Jacob’s life. Episode three ended with the shocking deaths of John Dutton Sr and Jack’s fiancée’s father, Bob Strafford, at the hands of Banner and his murderous band of sheepherders. It also saw Jacob and Elizabeth fighting for their lives.
Cara (Helen Mirren) enters the kitchen after the medical team has finished their work, and blood is still dripping from the table as she scans the room. It’s all too much, and she grabs a handkerchief and races from the big house. She collapses into sobs of grief as she stares up at the sky. Moments later she collects herself and returns to complete cleaning up just as ranch foreman Zane Davis (Brian Geraghty) arrives.

With each Yellowstone prequel, creator Taylor Sheridan fills in more of the Dutton family tree.
On Yellowstone, John Dutton III, played by Kevin Costner, sat atop his tree. The first episode of Paramount+’s 1923 introduced a new generation of Duttons on the Yellowstone Ranch in Montana, as well as one Dutton who prefers the life of hunting maneaters in Africa. Episode two, “Nature’s Empty Throne,” also divides its time between the Yellowstone Ranch and Africa, as well as a government boarding school for Native Americans in North Dakota.
Since there are three distinct storylines taking place, this recap is divided up into three parts to make it easier to track the key players. (Spoilers ahead!)

1923 launched to record numbers for Paramount+ just a few days ago, and naturally, there are questions about how long the Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren-led spinoff will last.
Ahead of the premiere, it was reported that franchise overlord Taylor Sheridan and Paramount+ were interested in keeping the cast intact for a second batch of episodes.
The previous Yellowstone prequel, 1883, was a limited series spanning ten episodes.
In a new interview with Deadline, Sheridan confirmed that he managed to talk Ford and Mirren into committing to 16 episodes.
"Well, it's really the second half of the season," Sheridan teased.
"This one is different than 1883, where I had the whole thing blocked out in my head."
Sheridan notes that he went on a journey with the story of 1923, noting, "I'm the one that made the call to the network, which is probably the greatest call they ever got," he recalls.

The Yellowstone universe is not slowing down at this stage.
The latest prequel, anchored by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, launched to record numbers for Paramount+.
Including Paramount+ and multiple Paramount Network airings, 1923 Season 1 Episode 1 got off the ground running with 7.4 million viewers.
The streaming service did not distinguish just how many watched on streaming.
Instead, we got a total number of people that watched the premiere, and we'll have to see how the series holds up in the coming weeks.
It's worth noting that the series will not continue to air on Paramount Network.
From this point forward, it will only be available on Paramount+, which might help the streaming service bolster its streaming results.
"Anchored by Taylor Sheridan's incredible vision and the performances of legends Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford, we felt confident this next chapter of the Dutton Family origin story would resonate with audiences," Tanya Giles,...

Putting a hat on Harrison Ford is no simple task.
The actor, who made Indiana Jones’ fedora iconic, needed a new topper for his role opposite Helen Mirren in 1923, Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone spinoff centered on the Dutton family. “It’s all about the hat on a Western,” costume designer Janie Bryant told The Hollywood Reporter at the recent premiere. “I worked with my hat maker for weeks to make a lot of different hats in different colors and silhouettes.”
Just how many hats did they make? “I’m guessing about 75,” admits Bryant, the Mad Men costume designer who won an Emmy for her work on Deadwood. “We made so many hats but we had to get the crease just right. And we finally found it and I said, ‘That’s [Jacob Dutton’s] hat with the Montana crease.’”
