Patricia Velásquez long ago made peace with the fact that she and Egypt will be eternally linked. It’s an amusing quirk of fate for the Venezuelan actor since she grew up not in the sun-soaked deserts of North Africa, but rather the lush greenery of Latin America and France. She is a woman of proud Indigenous Wayuu descent and of a multicultural childhood that took her all over the world. Just never that part of it. Nonetheless, because of a movie she did a quarter-century ago—because of The Mummy—when friends, family, and even strangers think of the Land of the Pharaohs, they think of Patricia Velásquez. They think of Anck-Su-Namun.
“Can you believe I still have not been to Egypt?” Velásquez muses when we catch up with her over Zoom ahead of The Mummy’s 25th anniversary. “But somehow I seem to be connected to it a lot.

To say that Contessa Valentina Allegra De Fontaine is something of a shady figure would be quite the understatement, and while the character has yet to make her mark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a meaningful way, she's had her fingers in numerous pies in the comics for years.
Val (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is expected to form the team in the upcoming Thunderbolts* movie, but it seems she may also be fronting another shadowy organization.
Possible spoilers follow.
According to The Cosmic Circus, Val's Oxe Group (or O.X.E.) will factor into the movie. How big a role this organization will play remains to be seen, but it could have major implication for the winder MCU going forward.
In the comics, Oxe is described as the largest holding company in the World, and has ties to the secret Kratos Club, "a group of industrial multimillionaires whose goal is to...

The Mummy (1999) director Stephen Sommers looks back on his masterpiece starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz on its 25th anniversary. One of the most popular and enduring action-adventure films of all time, The Mummy proved to have stood the test of time.
Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser in The Mummy Returns
When it received a reboot in 2017 starring Tom Cruise, it seemed like all the magic and wonder vanished after it flopped critically. The movie was planned to be a part of Universal Picture’s Dark Universe, but due to the backlash it earned, the franchise was canceled altogether.

Twenty-five years ago, director Stephen Sommers turned a respected, but admittedly pretty dusty, Universal horror movie into a rip-roarin’ adventure. It’s fair to say all these years later that 1999’s The Mummy the best Indiana Jones movie not directed by Steven Spielberg. And yet, when Universal wanted to remake it again, they didn’t even bother to consult Sommers.
Is it any wonder, then, that 2017’s The Mummy was a colossal flop?
Talking with Sommers about the 25th anniversary of The Mummy ’99, The Hollywood Reporter asked if he had any involvement with the 2017 film, to which the director gave a short, clear response.
“No,” he answered. “Actually, I was kind of insulted because the writers and director of that Tom Cruise one, no one ever contacted me. I contact people if I was going to take over somebody’s thing.”

Whenever we talk about The Mummy franchise, the first character that comes to our mind is Brendan Fraser’s Rick O’Connell, set in the 1920s Egypt, the film revolves around the adventurer and a librarian who unknowingly releases Imhotep, a centuries-old mummy. The group takes responsibility as they prevent the rise of the evil pharaoh, and stop him from destroying the world.
Brendan Fraser as Rick O’Connell
The 1999 film was a massive hit as it received two more sequels, making it one of the best trilogies out there. However, in 2017, fans were disappointed when they learned that instead of getting a 4th film featuring the original cast, the $1.4 billion franchise would get a reboot. Needless to say, the film was not liked by the fans of the original series. But now, the wait for The Mummy 4 featuring Fraser comes to an end as the film’s director gives an update.

Brendan Fraser has been seeing a revival in his career after he won the Oscar for his role in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale. However, the actor will always be known for his role as Rick O’Connell in the horror adventure film The Mummy. Directed by Stephen Sommers, the film made him a bonafide star and turned the franchise into a huge asset for Universal Studios.
While Fraser shot to worldwide fame with The Mummy and its sequel The Mummy Returns, the latter also turned another upcoming actor into a star. Dwayne Johnson, who was a rising star at WWE at the time, made a cameo as the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns, leading him to receive his own spinoff film a year later.

Brendan Fraser’s The Mummy would’ve had a different actor playing a crucial role in the film. During a recent interview, director Stephen Sommers revealed that he tried to cast a famous Star Wars actor in the film. The character of Ardeth Bay in the film was initially written for an older actor and Sommers tried to cast Darth Vader actor James Earl Jones in the role. The director also considered Roscoe Lee Browne in the role, but both actors were busy with other projects.
Oded Fehr played the role of Ardeth Bay in The Mummy franchise
Sommers then had to rewrite the character to be played by a much younger actor and cast Israeli actor Oded Fehr in the role. The character returned once again in the sequel film, The Mummy Returns, in 2001.

"'The Mummy' isn't really trying to scare you – it's trying to entertain you." This is what /Film's Chris Evangelista lovingly wrote of 1999's "The Mummy" in 2021. Directed by Stephen Sommers and starring Brendan Fraser as the swashbuckling Rick O'Connell, the film became a somewhat unexpected hit, so much so that it ended up being one of the highest-grossing films of 1999 overall. Critics were a bit mixed on it in its day. It was an action/adventure film, the likes of which Hollywood had released many times before. Be that as it may, a film designed purely to entertain (rather than to scare) resonated with audiences in a big way. It was pulpy lightning in a bottle.

1999 was an amazing year for movies. But, among all the classics like The Matrix, Fight Club, Being John Malkovich, Magnolia, Go, Three Kings, and so many more, one that often gets overlooked is The Mummy. Originally, the summer of ’99 was supposed to be all about Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, but a few weeks before that movie opened, The Mummy turned out to be an unexpected smash for Universal Pictures, with it spawning two sequels, a spin-off movie, and (less cool), a reboot.
With the movie turning twenty-five, the film’s director Stephen Sommers, revisited the film during an extended sit-down with THR. For those who may not be aware of his career, Sommers made a whole slew of super-fun adventure movies in the 90s, including a really solid re-imagining of The Jungle Book for Disney and the creature feature Deep Rising. Tom Cruise is known for his action-hero persona in Hollywood. The actor has played many roles which has allowed him to flex his acting muscles as well as enabled him to perform death-defying stunts. He has headlined major franchises such as Mission: Impossible, and Top Gun, and has featured in one-off action blockbusters such as Knight and Day.
Cruise was also part of the disastrous The Mummy reboot in 2017, which was a box office failure and officially shut down the Dark Universe before it even began. However, before he came on board the ill-fated franchise, he was rumored to be in the running for the original films starring Brendan Fraser along with Brad Pitt as well. Director Stephen Sommer, however, debunked the rumors.

Back in March, Florence Pugh announced that cameras were officially rolling on Thunderbolts by sharing a video from the set to her Instagram page.
The brief clip highlighted Pugh's updated outfit, a first look at Yelena Belova taking aim on one of the monitors, and the movie's official logo on the back of a chair, which appeared to reveal the addition of an asterisk to the title.
Marvel Studios later shared the video, confirming that the supervillain movie will now officially be known as Thunderbolts*.
What does this signify? There are several theories, the most popular of which speculates that Thunderbolts* is actually going to be a Dark Avengers movie. Kevin Feige did address the title change during CinemaCon last month, but said we'd have to wait until the film was in theaters to find out what it means.

The Mummy Box Office (Domestic): Here’s How Much It Earned On It Re-Release Opening Weekend(Photo Credit – IMDb)
Universal Pictures is bringing some classic movies back to the theatres in the United States. On Friday, the fan-favorite adventure movie The Mummy was re-released. People went into the theatres despite several other releases like Challengers and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire running there to boost the classic’s box office collections.
The movie will turn twenty-five this year and will always be one of the best movies about Egypt’s mummies in cinema history. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz‘s chemistry captivated us and will always remain close to our hearts. The film did well at the box office back then and has managed to bring some loyal audience to the theatres.
Earlier this month reports about The Mummy re-releasing in the theatres were all over the media.

Scarlett Johansson’s latest MCU role was in the 2021 film “Black Widow.” Directed by Cate Shortland, the movie stars Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Rachel Weisz. It follows Natasha as she confronts her past and teams up with her estranged “family” to take down the villainous Red Room organization.
While the film received acclaim for its action scenes, character arcs, and performances, particularly Johansson and Pugh’s, it also sparked a contentious legal battle between Johansson and Disney. In July 2021, Johansson filed a lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company, alleging a breach of contract due to the movie’s simultaneous release in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access. Johansson argued that this release strategy violated her contract, which tied her compensation to the film’s box office performance.
We didn’t expect to hear about another Black Widow project for a couple of reasons: Natasha’s character demise and the ongoing lawsuit.

In 1999, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz thrilled and chilled audiences with The Mummy, an action-adventure-tinted take on the classic cinematic monster movie series of the same name.
The movie put Fraser on the map and was nothing less than a smash hit, spawning two sequels that were ultimately subject to diminishing returns. A Tom Cruise-focused reboot occurred in 2017 that many agree was not the film they were hoping for.

Universal Pictures’ The Mummy franchise was a fan favorite when it starred Brendan Fraser as the leading man Rick O’Connell. The first two films in the trilogy were directed by Stephen Sommers, also starred Rachel Weisz and John Hannah, and were box office successes. However, the reboot starring Tom Cruise was a gigantic failure critically and commercially.
While Cruise’s film ended what Universal planned as a series of monster films with a shared universe, a recent fan-made trailer seemed to have followed it up with a new cast. The new trailer is titled The Mummy: Resurrection and sees Keanu Reeves take over the franchise to battle a new evil spirit buried in an Egyptian tomb.

When James Bond Daniel Craig Revealed Being Obsessed With Having S*x In His Teens ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Daniel Craig is one of the most suave James Bonds in the history of cinema and an exceptional actor. The actor, however, was allegedly a mess in his childhood in terms of his thoughts! Why do we say you may wonder? It is because Craig, in his teen years, could allegedly only think about s*x. The actor shared this amusing anecdote once in an interview several years ago.
Craig is an eminent English actor who gained unfathomable fan as James Bond and appeared in five installments of the 007 film franchise. He succeeded Pierce Brosnan. Now, the hunt is still on to step in his shoes and be Daniel’s replacement in the next Bond movie. He is also loved for portraying Benoit Blanc in the films Knives Out and Glass Onion.

Movies like Brendan Fraser’s The Mummy have proved that the harsh opinions of critics cannot be entirely trusted. The difference in opinion between critics and audiences may occur due to different factors. Some themes in films would pique the interest of movie lovers no matter what the critics say about its lack of originality. In other cases, performances deemed bad by the critics can turn out to be entertaining for audiences.

Several weeks back, Florence Pugh led us through the ‘Thunderbolts*’ set and showcased her new costume. At one point in the movie, a chair can be seen with the new logo of the movie. Fans were quick to notice that the new logo had an asterisk, but most attributed this to being in some way related to production.
Then came this year’s CinemaCon, during which Feige presented both the new logo and confirmed the title change, saying that the asterisk will be explained later but not before the movie releases.
Yesterday, Atlanta_filming posted a now-deleted Instagram post in which it refers to ‘Thunderbolts*’ as ‘Thunderbolts* Part 1.’
Many fans are now theorizing that the asterisk is actually hiding the fact that Thunderbolts will be a series of movies instead of just a standalone movie meant to introduce the team to the MCU.

The Secret Behind Mysterious ‘Thunderbolts*’ Asterisk May Have Been Solved Indicating Movie’s Future
A few weeks ago, Florence Pugh gave us a tour of the ‘Thunderbolts*’ movie set and showed off her new costume. In one scene, there’s a chair with the movie’s new logo. Fans spotted an asterisk in the logo, thinking it might be part of the production.
At CinemaCon this year, Feige showed the new logo and announced the title change. He mentioned the asterisk would be clarified after the movie’s release.
Yesterday, Atlanta_filming shared an Instagram post, now deleted, where they called ‘Thunderbolts‘ ‘Thunderbolts Part 1.’
Now, many fans are guessing that the asterisk hints that Thunderbolts might not be just one movie but a series. They think it won’t just introduce the team but will lead to more movies in the MCU.

One of the most anticipated MCU projects is ‘Thunderbolts.’ It was supposed to start filming in Summer 2023, with actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But the SAG-AFTRA strike halted everything for over 3 months, delaying the movie. We don’t know much about the plot, except it follows a group of antiheroes on government missions.
A couple of weeks back, Florence Pugh shared a video giving fans a peek at the set, revealing the updated ‘Thunderbolts*’ title with an asterisk. Fans initially thought it might be a production detail until CinemaCon.
At the Marvel Studios presentation, Feige confirmed the title change, but he didn’t spill on the significance of the asterisk. So, it seems there’s something crucial tied to it that we’ll find out when the movie hits theaters.

After spending years in development hell, during which time it passed through the hands of popular genre filmmakers like George A. Romero, Mick Garris, Clive Barker, and Joe Dante, a reboot of the 1932 Universal Monsters classic The Mummy made its way out into the world in 1999 with Deep Rising writer/director Stephen Sommers at the helm. Made on a budget of $80 million, the new take on The Mummy was a box office success, earning over $416 million worldwide. Mixing horror, adventure, and comedy, it was a film that could be enjoyed by adults while also serving as gateway horror for a new generation of genre fans. Many see The Mummy (1999) as a beloved classic these days – so it makes sense that Universal has decided to give the film a theatrical re-release for its 25th anniversary. It will be back on the big screen in theatres nationwide starting April 26th, and tickets...

The Universal Monsters brand has had a rather mixed reception over the past 14 years or so. The 2010 remake of The Wolfman was a bomb, 2014’s Dracula Untold underperformed and the 2017 remake of The Mummy killed off the Dark Universe before it even began. However, the 2020 interpretation of The Invisible Man was rather well received and financially successful.
Now, as Universal attempts to reinvigorate the brand with a 2024 The Wolfman film and the Dark Universe section at Epic Universe, a beloved classic will be returning to theaters for its 25th Anniversary. The 1999 versions of The Mummy will be returning to the big screen this April in partnership with AMC.

When Hugh Jackman bid farewell to his iconic role as Wolverine in the 2017 flick Logan, fans were struck by a bittersweet feeling. The movie proved to be an appropriate goodbye to the much-loved character, revealing a more vulnerable and emotional side to the clawed mutant. However, what many fans might not know is that The Wolverine couldn’t have taken place if Fox had adhered to their original plan to have Darren Aronofsky helm the 2013 flick.
The Wolverine, a sequel to X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), was originally slated to be directed by Aronofsky, who is best known for his dark and intense movies like Black Swan and Requiem for a Dream. But, as fate would have it, the director eventually dropped out of the project in order to allow James Mangold to step in and take the reins.

‘Thunderbolts*’ has finally started filming after facing some challenges during development and dealing with cast issues following the SAG-AFTRA strike. Recently, Florence Pugh shared a video on her social media, giving fans a tour of the set.
In the video, we got a glimpse of her new costume and the updated title of the movie, ‘Thunderbolts*’ with an asterisk. However, the significance of the asterisk hasn’t been explained by officials yet. Filming officially began at the end of February at Trilith Studios and Atlanta Metro Studios in Atlanta. Reports have surfaced indicating that Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky, was completely absent from the set a few days ago.
Alex Perez, a well-known industry insider and leaker, confirmed this and provided a plausible explanation. According to him, Bucky is set to join the team later in the filming process, so it’s reasonable for him not to be on set from the beginning.

One of the most exciting upcoming MCU projects is ‘Thunderbolts.’ Production was slated to kick off in Summer 2023, and the cast was expected to include actors already associated with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Marvel Studios making efforts to ensure their availability.
Then, the SAG-AFTRA strike happened and paralyzed the industry for more than 3 months and stalled the progress of the movie. Little is known about the overall plot, except that it will see a group of antiheroes as they go on various missions for the government.
Now, that ‘Thunderbolts’ has begun shooting officially, Florence Pugh returning as Yelena Belova shared some of the behind-the-scenes details in her Instagram video.

It’s fun to think that when Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos were on the Oscar campaign trail during the early months of the year, they already had a new project under their belts. “Kinds of Kindness” marks the third straight feature collaboration between actress and director (and Searchlight Pictures) after “The Favourite” and “Poor Things,” both of which won their leading performers, Olivia Colman and Stone, Best Actress Oscars.
The first teaser for this new joint was released this morning and it’s one of those 46-second clips that tells you absolutely nothing but flashes a ton of cool imagery in your face. Set to a remixed version of “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)” by the Eurythmics, we see Stone zooming around in a purple muscle car (and dancing in an empty parking lot), a close-up of a dog in black and white, Jesse Plemons getting whapped across...

When director Yorgos Lanthimos and actress Emma Stone make a feature film together, Academy Award nominations follow. Their 2018 collaboration The Favourite was nominated in the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Production Design, Costume Design, Cinematography, and Editing categories, with supporting actresses Stone and Rachel Weisz also earning nominations and lead actress Olivia Colman taking home an Oscar for her performance. Their 2023 collaboration Poor Things racked up nominations in the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Original Score, Cinematography, Editing, and Supporting Actor (Mark Ruffalo) categories – and won Oscar gold for Makeup and Hairstyling, Production Design, Costume Design, and Stone’s performance in the lead role. Now a teaser trailer has arrived online for the latest Lanthimos / Stone team-up, a film called Kinds of Kindness (previously known as And), and you can check it out in the embed above.
