CBS’s police procedural TV show Blue Bloods can’t be called anything short of iconic, considering its mass following, stellar performance on the network, and star-studded cast led by TV legend Tom Selleck. Despite all these factors, in December 2023, it was revealed that Season 14 would be the finale of Blue Bloods.
Both the show’s stars and fans have been actively trying to revert the decision ever since, but the network doesn’t give in. However, there’s still hope for Blue Bloods, as the most recent update from Paramount implied.
Blue Bloods to Get a ‘Franchise Extension’
Recently, at the 2024 Paramount Global Annual Meeting of Stockholders, several franchises received huge updates. Apart from billion-dollar IPs mentioned by Paramount co-ceo Brian Robbins during the meeting, he also gave a peculiar hint at the Blue Bloods’ future — and apparently, it’s not quite as dark as we’d imagined!

The world of Blue Bloods may continue after all. The CBS police drama will end this fall with the final eight episodes of season 14, but there will still be more story to tell.
The police drama series, which stars Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, Len Cariou, Marisa Ramirez, and Vanessa Ray, follows a family of law enforcement officers. Both the cast and fans expressed the desire to keep the series going, but that is not in the cards.

The cancellation of Blue Bloods came as a heartbreaking surprise to the cop drama's legion of devoted fans.
Thousands took to social media to express their displeasure, and series star Tom Selleck blasted CBS for what he saw as a major error in judgment.
Now, it looks as though execs at the Eye Network might have finally seen the error of their ways.
According to a new report from TV Line, Brian Robbins, co-ceo of CBS' parent company Paramount, strongly hinted at the likelihood of a Blue Bloods spinoff during his most recent meeting with shareholders.
“In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions, and Blue Bloods,” Robbins said.
He added that “CBS’ hit Fire Country shows huge promise.”
News of the Fire Country spinoff comes as no surprise.
CBS has already announced that a project focusing on Morena Baccarin's Mickey Fox character is in the works.

After CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach last month permanently closed the door to Blue Bloods continuing beyond its upcoming final 8 episodes this fall, one of Paramount Global’s Office of the CEO members today opened the door to the franchise potentially carrying on.
During Paramount Global’s shareholder meeting this morning, Brian Robbins noted that Paramount is home of 14 brands across film and TV that have generated at least $1B in revenue, including NCIS, South Park, Yellowstone, SpongeBob SquarePants, Paw Patrol and Star Trek.
“We are building tomorrow’s billion dollar brands right now” he added. “In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions and Blue Bloods, and CBS’ hit Fire Country shows huge promise.”
Spinoffs for Dexter, Billions, Fire Country as well as NCIS have been announced; there has been no official word on a Blue Bloods offshoot yet.

Did the #SaveBlueBloods campaign work? Paramount Global co-ceo Brian Robbins reportedly hinted at the possibility of a Blue Bloods spinoff during a shareholders meeting on Tuesday, June 4. As it stands, Blue Bloods Season 14 Part 2 will be the final episodes and will air later this year on CBS. Robbins reportedly said during a Paramount shareholders meeting on June 4 that “in TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions, and Blue Bloods,” according to TVLine. Robbins reportedly added that “CBS’ hit Fire Country shows huge promise,” presumably alluding to the upcoming Sheriff Country spinoff set for the 2025-2026 broadcast season. TV Insider has confirmed the accuracy of Robbins’ comments. Dexter and Billions‘ expanding franchises were already known to the public, but Blue Bloods‘ impending end has been the main headline for the show all season. Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, and more stars of the cop procedural have voiced their strong opinions...

Today, Tom Selleck is among the most celebrated and renowned TV stars in the world, and for the past 14 years, he’s been mostly acting in Blue Bloods. The actor’s real breakthrough, meanwhile, happened almost 45 years ago, back in 1980! That’s when the pilot episode of Selleck’s Magnum P.I. premiered and the audience immediately fell in love with his charming detective.
But during these 45 years, Tom Selleck has been exclusively referring to his iconic series as “Magnum” instead of “Magnum, P.I.” — and few people know why.
Tom Selleck’s Vow Is Rooted in His Principles
The obvious reason for Selleck’s disregard for his legendary show’s official title would be his aesthetic preference or an internal joke of sorts, but the actor’s vow had nothing to do with those things. Having lived in Hawaii for a while before starting the series, Selleck knew more about the local customs than the showrunners.

Anyone who knows anything about the production of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" will know the troubles endured by director Steven Spielberg and company. Even before filming got underway, there were issues with casting. Initially, Tom Selleck was handed the role of Dr. Henry Jones Jr., before leaving due to his commitment to "Magnum P.I.," prompting rushed redesigns of the character that better suited his replacement, Harrison Ford. Once Ford was on board, however, it seemed as though Spielberg's action-adventure classic could finally get underway without any issues.
Unfortunately, that was just the start of the challenges faced by the "Raiders" crew. There are far too many examples to list here, but you can take your pick of the debacles that befell the production: the six hundred thirsty extras that threw the "Raiders" set into chaos, an outbreak of dysentery, the real pythons that took bites out of...

Tom Selleck’s most classic TV show ever, Magnum P.I. sees him portray a just-returned Vietnam vet who gets hired as a Pi by an enigmatic rich author. Lured in by the conditions, the veteran relocates to the author’s Hawaiian residence where he rolls around in expensive cars solving crimes and keeping the guests in check. You can watch Magnum, P.I. on Apple TV and Prime Video.
9. Three Men and a Baby (1987)
Three happy bachelors are having the time of their lives hooking up with new women every other night, partying like it’s the end of time, and carelessly floating through the mundane. Everything changes when an infant girl is dropped at their doorstep: unable to look away, the men decide to care for her and grow attached to the baby.
You can watch Three Men and a Baby on Disney Plus and Prime Video.

Everybody knows that NCIS is one of the biggest TV franchises there is, but what if we tell you that there are even more shows that share the same universe with the series than those which have NCIS in their names.

10. Jag
Everything started with Jag. It actually gave the start to the whole franchise, and it surprises us that not so many fans actually knew about it. The two episodes that made it all happen were Ice Queen and Meltdown, both from season 8. In these episodes the many NCIS characters were introduced, like Jethro Gibbs, Anthony Dinozzo and others. After that, when NCIS premiered, it featured many Jag characters as well.
So if you never heard of the show but consider yourself a NCIS fan, it’s time to binge Jag right now.

If there's one thing that makes Blue Bloods feel so warm and homey, it's the Sunday dinner scenes. Reminiscent of what goes on in many homes across the country, the show never fails to remind its viewers that the characters are people, just as real as the fans, with their own traditions and unbreakable customs.
No matter what happens on screen, viewers can always count on the Reagan family to come back to the table and remember the importance of family. One might think that these scenes are the most difficult for the actors to film because of the number of choreographed lines between all the family members.
But as Tom Selleck admits, the words are the last thing that bothers him.

The 2023-24 Nielsen charts also revealed how Young Sheldon was able to go out on top, while many other CBS series remained in the total viewer top 20. Blue Bloods is gearing up for its final season, and the show’s stars, Donnie Wahlberg and Tom Selleck, are looking back at what made the police procedural drama so successful. In a story for emmy magazine’s June issue, excerpted by People, the actors reflected on the hit CBS series, particularly focusing on those iconic Sunday family dinner scenes, which have become a signature part of the show. “At the first dinner scene, I had to be fully committed to this character and who he was and his thoughts on the situation he was dealing with — and be willing to turn that dinner table upside down,” Wahlberg told the outlet. “And to do that with Tom Selleck sitting at the head of the table? He’s an icon.” Wahlberg plays Detective Danny Reagan on the show, the son of Commissioner Frank Reagan, played by Selleck. The series revolves around the Reagan family,...

In December 2023, CBS announced that Blue Bloods would end with Season 14, and ever since then, lead star Tom Selleck has been waging a one-man war with the network in an attempt to save his iconic series. Admittedly, one of the main reasons Selleck needs Blue Bloods to continue is to keep his main source of income.
But just how much does that source amount to for Selleck per year — and how much has he earned from Blue Bloods throughout all 14 seasons?
Selleck Has Made a Fortune from Blue Bloods
Ever since 2016, it’s been well-known that Tom Selleck’s Blue Bloods salary was $200k per episode. This is a staggering amount of money on its own, but it gets better once we start multiplying. An average Blue Bloods season is 22 episodes long, so we’re looking at $4.4M per season which translates to “per year.”

For all the Blue Bloods fans who haven’t been content with the lack of serious stakes and tension in the show lately, its behind-the-scenes drama should provide more than enough of both.
As CBS is adamant about ending Blue Bloods with Season 14, lead star Tom Selleck is equally hellbent on keeping it going — and so far, it doesn’t look like either party will be willing to back down.
Tom Selleck Won’t Give Up: ‘Tell Your Friends’
While not the only cast member who’s been vocal about the cancellation lately, Tom Selleck has definitely been the most active protester of the network’s decision. The lead star has been going live about it on every opportunity, criticizing CBS for canceling Blue Bloods and claiming that he won’t rest until renewed once again.
Months go by, and Tom Selleck is still on the grind to save his iconic series.

He was one of the highest-paid actors in the series, but his recent comments about his potential financial woes after the end of the series raise several eyebrows. There’s a reason why Tom Selleck refers to the original Magnum, P.I. television series as just “Magnum” — and it has nothing to do with it being simple shorthand.
Selleck’s 352-page memoir, You Never Know, was released earlier this month (days after the 36th anniversary of Magnum, P.I.’s series finale), and when rummaging for something to read outdoors on a lazy Memorial Day Weekend afternoon, I remembered that I had been floated an advanced copy. Tom Selleck’s time on Blue Bloods is coming to an end. That means the actor, 79, will have to say goodbye to the hefty paychecks he’s received for playing top cop Frank Reagan on the CBS drama.
Selleck has made it clear that he isn’t ready to retire and thinks the network should reconsider its decision to cancel Blue Bloods. But insiders say he should quit griping, considering that he’s likely made millions over the show’s 14-year run.

When is the Blue Bloods series finale? That’s a question on Blue Bloods fans’ minds as the summer hiatus begins.
Season 14 is the final season of the hit CBS cop drama.

Actor Tom Selleck is calling for CBS to rethink their decision on canceling the long-running series ‘Blue Bloods’. The veteran actor, who has portrayed New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan for the past 14 years, recently expressed his sentiments about the show’s abrupt end. Hope for Series Renewal In a recent interview with CBS, Selleck showed no signs of giving up hope: I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses, he remarked confidently. He highlighted the significant success of the show with viewers, stating, We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the

In December 2023, CBS announced that Season 14 would be the finale of Blue Bloods, and that wasn’t a popular decision at all. On the fans’ side, there have been #SaveBlueBloods petitions and campaigns; on the cast’s part, no one has been more vocal about the absolute necessity of the show’s continuation as Tom Selleck.
Apparently, CBS bosses find the lead actor’s pleas extremely infuriating — and for a good reason, as much as it pains us to say it. Here’s what an inside source revealed.
Selleck’s ‘Poverty’ Claims Impressed No One
While a large part of Tom Selleck’s one-man war with CBS is focused on how important the show is for the Blue Bloods cast, crew, and fans, there’s another thing he’s been very vocal about lately: money. According to the actor, the show’s cancellation could render him broke — and unable to maintain his favorite ranch.

Tom Selleck’s Frank Reagan is the classic blend of on- and off-screen patriarch of his TV show. Having been sitting in the Commissioner’s chair since Blue Bloods Season 1, Frank has been a wize and competent leader of the NY cops throughout the seasons — but the show is drawing to the conclusion, and so is his career.
There’s been a lot of foreshadowing of Frank’s retirement in the past episodes, and it only makes sense that he replaces Henry as the “stay-at-home patriarch.” Right?..
Blue Bloods Boss Denies Frank’s Retirement
We’ve been all led to believe that Frank Reagan won’t stay on the Commissioner’s post by the end of Season 14. From his subtle comments to his seemingly seeking reconciliation with the Mayor at one point, it has surely been looking as if Frank was getting his business in order before passing the position to his successor.

Everyone knows that CBS is America's most watched network, and it's home to many extremely popular long-running shows. The example that we all know for sure is The Big Bang Theory, and of course, how can we live without NCIS, right?
But before they became the most popular shows in the world, there were many other amazingly crafted projects on CBS – the ones that are still considered genre-defining or groundbreaking pieces of television.
Here are 5 old but gold shows you need to watch right now to feel the brilliance of days gone by.
1. Magnum, P.I. (1980)
Missed Tom Selleck's mustache? Well, time to check out the young version of it. In Magnum, P.I., the actor plays Detective Thomas Sullivan, a former Navy lieutenant and Vietnam Special Forces veteran who resigned his commission at the age of thirty-three. The main reason? To move to Hawaii and live the life he never had when he was younger.

Blue Bloods isn't quite done yet.
CBS' beloved police/family drama still has eight episodes left that will air in the fall, though they've wrapped up the first part of their final season and will soon be finished filming the series finale, which will air in December 2024.
CBS gets a big, fat F for this cancelation news, but let's put that aside and look at what worked and what didn't during the first part of Blue Bloods Season 14.
Before we jump into it, let's clear up some confusion. CBS is calling those final eight episodes the second part of Season 14 even though they Also called Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 10 the season finale.
Tom Selleck recently stated that those eight episodes are really Season 15, and it's hard to blame him for saying so, even though it caused more confusion. These episodes are airing in the fall, traditionally the start of the new season,...

Steven Spielberg had a great run in the 80s and 90s churning out blockbusters while also venturing into compelling dramas. He entertained audiences with the Indiana Jones franchise that has since become a significant part of pop culture and also made audiences cry with emotionally driven films such as Empire of the Sun and The Color Purple.

Oh my! Our second chance love story is heading towards a slow and painful demise. The worst thing is the energy with which fans are saying they called it.
Yes, we’d all like to think that Affleck is a depressed man who married a fame-chaser in the name of love if you’re into that kind of thing, but the thing is, they’re just two people who tried to make love work.
For some reason, I can’t forget the hopeful and happy interviews JLo did on the subject of finding love again with Ben Affleck over two decades after they initially broke off their first engagement. Oh well !!!
Insider Claims Impending Divorce Is Not Ben Affleck’s Fault
Since the pair tied the knot in 2022 with a low-key marriage and a high profile wedding lasting three days, fans haven’t stopped speculating that their romance was going to be a shortlived one.

Tom Selleck isn’t happy that CBS canceled Blue Bloods. He insisted the show was still a ratings juggernaut and the cancelation makes no sense. However, that might change if Selleck has his way. With the season finale coming up, Tom says he is “optimistic” about the show’s future, despite its cancelation.
Here is what Tom had to say about his show’s possible future.
Tom Selleck Optimistic About Blue Bloods Future
Despite CBS canceling it, Tom Selleck said he is not giving up hope in Blue Bloods’ return to television. Selleck plays patriarch Frank Reagan on the hit police procedural series. However, when CBS announced the show would end after Season 14, split into two parts, Selleck and other cast members were unhappy with the decision.
“I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses,” Selleck said when asked about the show’s future on CBS Sunday Morning.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains details of tonight’s Blue Bloods Season 14 midseason finale, which is the close of the first part of the NYPD family drama’s final season.
“Father, forgive me for I have sinned,” says New York Police commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) in church in tonight’s Blue Bloods last midseason finale as he tries to repair a rift with his actual father, the former NYPD commissioner Henry Reagan (Len Cariou).
It ain’t the Sunday dinner that defines the well-watched CBS series, but it certainly was a moment of affirmation for perspicacious fans who may be speculating where their show is going to go in its final episodes after a long long run. Put another way, Blue Bloods may be ending later this year, but you’d never know it from the Season 14 midseason finale that aired tonight.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Blue Bloods Season 14 Part 1 finale, “The Heart of a Saturday Night.”] Blue Bloods ended its Season 14 midseason finale on its usual positive note at the weekly Reagan family dinner. With Season 14 Part 1 now in the rearview mirror, showrunner Kevin Wade is giving a glimpse into what to expect in the final episodes set to premiere this fall on CBS, and he doesn’t think it’s likely that they’ll make Tom Selleck‘s Frank Reagan retire from his position as police commissioner. Some characters this season, like the mayor, have hinted at a desire for a new commissioner, raising questions about whether Frank is going to stay in the job that defines his life. Even when he has difficult days like in Season 14 Episode 10, which showed Frank and his father (Len Cariou) at uncomfortable odds over a deceased cop’s use of the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, Frank doesn’t...

Blue Bloods Season 14 spring finale has arrived, marking the halfway point for the final season of the hit CBS show.
However, Tom Selleck, who plays Frank Reagan isn’t giving up hope that Blue Bloods will continue past this season.
CBS announced in November that Blue Bloods would end after Season 14, airing in two parts.
The cast has been more than vocal about wanting to keep the show going, especially Donnie Wahlberg.

Blue Bloods has been on air since 2010, but in December 2023, CBS announced that the then upcoming Season 14 would be the TV show’s finale. Both fans and stars of the show took the news poorly, with the former launching petitions to prevent their favorite series’ cancellation, and the latter defending the show in interviews and public appearances.
Tom Selleck has been especially vocal trying to save Blue Bloods lately, but now the star actor confirms: there will be a Season 15, after all. It’s just a matter of definition.

The good news is that Blue Bloods is all set for an exciting season midseason finale.
CBS is billing the eight episodes airing in the fall as the second half of Season 14, though Tom Selleck said in an interview that he considers them a shortened Season 15 that he hopes will be extended til May, and promos are calling this the season finale.
Either way, this final episode before the summer hiatus promises the action, heart, and family drama that keeps viewers coming back year after year. But will the knowledge that there are only eight episodes left ruin the experience?
The last few episodes leading up to the end of a series are always bittersweet. The higher the quality, the harder it is to accept that the series is almost over.
That's especially true for Blue Bloods, which has a passionate fanbase that is angry about the cancelation.

One of the most legendary pieces of an iconic role almost going to a different actor is when Tom Selleck was initially offered the lead as Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark. He famously nailed his audition (which you can watch here) and was offered the part. However, he had just shot the pilot for Magnum P.I. and when that show was picked up, his opportunity to play the whip-wielding archeologist slipped through his fingers. He eventually got to star in his own period adventure movie in 1983, High Road to China, which is a bit of an unseen gem.

Cancelations suck, and the 2024 season has been particularly brutal.
Long-running favorites such as Station 19, Blue Bloods, and Young Sheldon are going off the air, leaving fans brokenhearted -- and actors out of a steady gig.
Sometimes, actors land a new gig right away, and other times, they struggle to find new work. The cancellations were recently announced, so not everyone has had the opportunity to move on to a new project yet, but there are some interesting things in the works.
Having a Long-Running Series is a Double-Edged Sword
When actors land a gig that lasts for half a decade or more, they're guaranteed work for as long as the series lasts.
That allows them to become household names but also can make it harder for them to get new jobs in the future. For example, Henry Winkler was so associated with The Fonz that when Happy Days ended,...

In interviews Tom Selleck has repeatedly said that despite the fact that he was a movie fan, he never dreamed of becoming an actor. It is known that in his teenage years the future actor devoted himself entirely to sports – basketball and athletics.

Tom went to Los Angeles Valley College to live with his family and not spend extra money. During his junior year, Selleck transferred to the University of Southern California on a basketball scholarship.
One of his teachers advised him to try his hand at acting, so Tom dropped out of college his senior year and threw himself into studying the basics of acting. At the time, he was also working as a model, which is how he got noticed.

Tom Selleck’s life is about to change. Blue Bloods will air its final episode sometime this fall after 14 seasons on the air.

Blue Bloods fans shouldn’t count on CBS changing its mind about the future of the cop drama. Last fall, the network announced that the show would end after a two-part 14th season. Despite hints from the cast that they’d be happy to see the series continue, there’s little chance that the cancellation will be reversed, an exec recently said.
‘Blue Bloods’ will get ‘the sendoff it deserves’
CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach addressed the potential for Blue Bloods being un-canceled during a press conference on May 2.
“We really want to thank the cast and crew, everyone involved in the show,” she said, according to Deadline. “We absolutely will miss the family dinners. It is important to give the show the sendoff it deserves.”
However, unlike S.W.A.T., which got a surprise season 8 renewal after being canceled last fall, there’s no chance of an 11th-hour save for the Tom Selleck show.

In Tom Selleck’s recently released memoir, You Never Know (via Business Insider), he reveals how he gave the crew of Magnum P.I. bonuses of $1000 after the studio refused.
Tom Selleck was in the process of renegotiating his contract with CBS for what would be the eighth and final season of Magnum P.I. The studio had decreased the budget of the series, but Selleck wanted them to agree to an eight-day schedule as well as a bonus for the crew if they were able to deliver under budget. “The studio said yes to the eight days. But they responded that they could not under any circumstances talk about crew bonuses, that it would set a dangerous precedent,” Selleck said. “They always invoked precedent when you had an original thought beyond their contractual boilerplate. Honestly, that pissed me off.“

Selleck recalled that during that time, the show had “decreased our budget overages each year.” The actor explained that he asked for an eight-day schedule and that if the crew delivered their “biggest budget savings yet,” he wanted them to have a bonus.
“The studio said yes to the eight days. But they responded that they could not under any circumstances talk about crew bonuses, that it would set a dangerous precedent,” he recalled, adding that it “pissed” him off.
Unable to get a bonus for the crew, Selleck used his leverage as the series’ star to ask for a bonus for himself. The studio agreed. “That really pissed me off. And I won’t tell you the amount,...
