The Oceans duo are back on the big screen in the first Wolfs trailer – a buddy crime caper from Jon Watts.
2001 called, and they want their leading men back.
That’s right, it’s the Ocean’s Eleven reunion we’ve been waiting for. Brad Pitt and George Clooney are starring as rival ‘fixers’ in Jon Watts’ first feature post-Spider-Man: No Way Home, with a title apparently stolen from Harvey Keitel’s character in Pulp Fiction.
My head hurts. Here’s the Wolfs trailer.
True to the name’s Tarantino roots, Pitt and Clooney co-star as a pair of, er, specialist cleaner-folk, both hired to dispose of the same body at the same time. Cue hijinks, a few drugs and a gunfight or two – you know the drill.
The trailer drops at an auspicious time for the big-screen action-comedy genre. The Fall Guy – a more-or-less original crowd-pleaser originally seen as...

Edward Norton is quite vocal about his admiration for veteran filmmaker Spike Lee. The actor could not understand why a lot of people sleep on his talent, but the Red Dragon star would not let unfair criticism taint the director’s reputation.
Edward Norton in 25th Hour / Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
They worked together on the 2002 drama film 25th Hour, but even before that, he was already following the works of Lee.
Edward Norton Defends Spike Lee As A Filmmaker
During his interview via Gainsville Sun, actor Edward Norton confessed he’s a die-hard Spike Lee fan. He also thinks the filmmaker’s projects are underappreciated.
I wrote him a letter after He Got Game. I really loved that movie, and I thought people missed it. It had a lot of texture and layers. There is a lot of room for the actor and the audience in Spike Lee movies.

Alien didn’t just spring fully formed out of the heads of director Ridley Scott and writers Dan O’Bannon, Ronald Shusett, Walter Hill, and David Giler. Its combination of “monster on the loose” and “haunted house in space” scenario was perhaps the ultimate distillation of a long line of sci-fi and horror pictures that had come before it, from quick B-movie cheapies to some of the genre’s most elegant offerings. What Alien did under the visionary hand of its director, however, was meld all those influences together in a way that transcended the schlockier elements of the film’s influences and elevated the more artistic and meaningful ones. The result wasn’t just a monster movie, but a psychosexual nightmare with Lovecraftian overtones and a sense of existential dread.

As George Miller’s oil and blood-fuelled Furiosa hits the screens, we ponder what makes a great prequel.
Mild spoilers for The First Omen.
There are a lot of bad prequels. There are some good prequels, but a great prequel is a rare thing to come across. They’re like a rare animal, the unicorns of cinema. Some wonder if such a thing even exists, but when you do watch one, it’s really rather something.
George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga might just be one, a prequel which somehow manages to justify its existence and repeat the exhilarating sense of time and place as Mad Max: Fury Road. I’d be surprised if we saw another action film as handsomely made as Furiosa in 2024. Or 2025. Or 2026.
Prequels are an easy sell for studios, but a hard sell for audiences. For studios, they’re an easy way...

Bringing complex books to the screen is an extremely difficult task. Especially when we are talking about global fiction with many storylines, characters, narrative layers, and even genres.
The creators of the adaptation of Isaac Asimov's Foundation gave up trying to follow the original in the very first episodes – the result was a good, but completely different story. The creators of 3 Body Problem, David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, went a different way.
They did what they do best: transfered the plot of a famous book to the screen, making it more tense. The viewer is introduced to the modern world and immediately thrown into the past of China. And as soon as he gets used to it, he is immersed in the virtual world of the computer game with incomprehensible rules.
But among the books of the science fiction genre, there is a gem that many have forgotten about,...

Even those who aren’t into cinema can guess that Dune: Part Two is so far the most talked about movie of 2024 and, moreover, the highest-grossing one of the year. Denis Villeneuve’s epic saga attracted the attention of millions of viewers worldwide, with some of them also becoming interested in its book source, Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novels.
However, it’s not so obvious that Villeneuve wasn’t the first who managed to adapt these seemingly unadaptable books. Apart from the unsuccessful 1970’s attempts of the filmmakers Ridley Scott and Alejandro Jodorowsky, there was one that became true.
Back in 1984, the world saw a highly anticipated movie version of Dune, adapted from Herbert’s first novel (1965). Set in the future, it followed the rivalry between two noble clans striving to take control of Arrakis, a planet rich in the valuable drug named Spice.

If you've never sought out the truth behind sci-fi movies and TV shows, you've probably never believed what was happening on your screen. From traveling through time and space to discovering aliens, the genre can have a lot of twists and turns that are hard to imagine in real life.
But you'd be surprised how far science has come and how close humanity is to making these fictional stories real. Here are 10 sci-fi TV shows and movies that aren't true, but could have happened in real life.
Alien (1979)
Ridley Scott's Alien is one of those movies you don't want to believe could ever come true. However, there is one detail that does seem realistic. If space travel becomes as common as we think it will, the spaceships won't all look like a brand new yacht in the sky. The luxury ships will be for the rich, while the rest...

The Perfect Organism.
After kicking off May with discussions of Stephen Sommers’ The Mummy (listen), Trace and I have checked out Audrey Hepburn in Wait Until Dark (listen) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Gregg Araki‘s Mysterious Skin (listen).
Now we’re crossing a classic title off our list: Ridley Scott‘s Alien.
Alien tells the story of the crew of the Nostromo as they’re awoken from stasis to answer a distress beacon on a nearby planet. When Kane (John Hurt) is attacked on an alien ship, Warrant Officer Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) refuses to let Captain Dallas (Tom Skerritt) and Navigator Lambert (Veronica Cartwright) back on board with quarantining.
Science Officer Ash (Ian Holm) overrides her command and brings them inside, but as the alien creature on Kane’s face evolves, it becomes clear that there’s more than one antagonist on board the ship and everyone, including Engineers Parker...

Alien 3 has a storied history, with shifting writers and directors, studio interference and complete disarray. It’s all well documented and continues to be one of the most faceted “What if?” productions in modern movies. What if William Gibson’s script was used? What if Ridley’s role had been diminished to the point of cameo? What if Renny Harlin had stayed on as director of Alien 3? Well, on the last point, the director wants fans to know that his departure came down to story issues.
Speaking with SlashFilm, Renny Harlin recalled wanting to bring Xenomorphs to Earth for Alien 3, which would have shook up the structure and taken audiences through something they hadn’t yet experienced. “The concept of having these creatures on Earth for the studio, it felt scary and unattainable. For me, it was the natural evolution. We’ve had the Alien with the truck drivers in space,...

45 years ago, Alien became one of the most iconic films in science fiction history, cementing its legacy with the unforgettable chestburster scene. Even renowned director Stanley Kubrick was awestruck and curious about how this legendary moment was achieved. The film, directed by Ridley Scott, has been praised for its intense atmosphere and groundbreaking effects. The Genius Behind the Gory Scene Director Ridley Scott knew how crucial it was to make the chestburster scene shockingly realistic. The writing team involved DC writer Tom King along with Lost creator Damon Lindelof and Ozark showrunner Chris Mundy. While Gunn gave a hearty welcome to both Lindelof and Mundy, his comments against the Lost creator resurfaced on social media. Gunn had some scathing remarks about Lindelof for ruining the ending of the 2004 series.

Although Ridley Scott is one of the most talented and successful directors in Hollywood, he has a reputation for quite an unfortunate thing in Hollywood. On top of heading projects like Blade Runner, Gladiator, and Prometheus, he is also known for having quite a short temper.

Despite a historically accurate reading of Hollywood’s storied past, great directors and filmmakers make it their business to break and set records with their career’s work. Christopher Nolan is invariably one such director who continues to defy the laws of physics in his films just as he manipulates the laws of human psychology when it comes to breaking box office records.
However, it is rare to find a combination of good filmmakers with complete artistic and creative taste who don’t eventually fall prey to the studio system. Return on investments and profit guides the business models of modern-day Hollywood and to keep making films, it becomes imperative that directors, creatives, and actors all fall in line with the company policy.

Sometimes horror filmmakers go far from merely scaring the audience by shocking images and loud sounds and turn their films into pure art. These visuals are often beyond the imaginable limits as they both please the eye and creep you out even more.
Here are 7 horrors, picked by Reddit due to their outstanding visual part.
1. The Cell (2000)

Ridley Scott’s iconic sci-fi horror film, which introduced cinema lovers to iconic characters like Ellen Ripley, Alien is celebrating its 45 years. Widely regarded as one of the most influential films of all time, Alien was a revolutionary project whose impact on the horror genre remains significant. "In space, no one can hear you scream." Few cinematic taglines have managed to become as immediately identifiable as this one. While it needs no introduction, the tagline was attached to director Ridley Scott's seminal 1979 classic, "Alien." Regardless of genre, it is one of the most highly regarded and influential films ever made. It was also, not for nothing, a huge hit in its day, only to become an even bigger hit as the years have rolled on. Put plainly, it's one of the most important box office success stories in history.
"I thought it was a small movie," said Sigourney Weaver, the film's lead, in an interview with Reuters in 2019. "It had a tiny cast and a brilliant young director.

Almost everyone is aware of the unsettling feeling of being observed while doing something, which can shake one’s confidence regardless of their skill or expertise. And filmmaker Denis Villeneuve also experienced this while working on the sequel of Ridley Scott’s sci-fi film, Blade Runner. Stephen King had a very public dislike towards Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of his novel The Shining. He believed that Kubrick’s version had no real heart in it as he changed some of the fundamental elements in the book. The difference in their adaptation came from King and Kubrick’s view of good and evil. King believed in the Biblical demarcations of good and evil, while Kubrick did not believe in hell.

Movie marathons are cool, but the best horror franchises ever made are just a pitch-perfect choice for them. Sequels can often disappoint enjoyers of the original films; luckily, here we have such triples that will keep you on edge till the end of the third chapter.
Here are 4 of the most well-built horror trilogies, recommended by Reddit.
1. Halloween
Original trilogy: Halloween (1978), Halloween II (1981), Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
First are the iconic movies primarily focusing on the bloody exploits of Michael Myers, whose relentless killings occur on the holiday of Halloween. Although the third movie has no connection with two previous ones, three of them still make a perfect choice for night-binging.
The trilogy radiates a strong and nostalgic atmosphere of not only Halloween, the darkest day of the year, but the whole decade of the 1980s.
2. The Evil Dead

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone success gave him a special position within the television industry. He is currently serving as the creator of at least six big television productions, including the final season of his breakthrough series. Sheridan doesn’t handle the load very well as he revealed to Joe Rogan about his hectic work schedule that gave him just 4 hours of sleep for months.

As everyone knows, Tom Cruise leads an action-packed life akin to that of a movie star. The actor enjoys a good thrill, and he performs almost all of his own stunts. And it was his dedication that led him to accept one of his most prominent roles, Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, in the 1986 action flick Top Gun.
So, in the case of this Paramount Pictures film, the actor had an unusual demand that ultimately saved the film from disaster. Well, after a less-than-ideal experience working with director Ridley Scott on the movie Legend, Cruise was understandably cautious about committing to a new project.
When producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer approached him with the script for Top Gun, Cruise liked it but felt that it “needed some work”.

An interesting development arises in the ongoing return of Alien to our screens: series regular, Ridley Scott is said to be developing his own long-form story.
Ever since the release of Alien: Covenant in 2017, the Alien franchise has been absent from our screens. Although it’s been clear that work has been going on in the background, things have taken their time, not least because the last few years have been rather tumultuous for in-development projects.
Considering that Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant remains largely unloved, there also seems to be a concerted effort to make sure that the next wave of Alien stories land with audiences, not least because the property is one of the undoubted jewels in the 20th Century Fox crown. You know, the one that Disney paid a whopping $71.3bn for back in 2019.
There are two Alien projects that we know of to date.

Directed by David Fincher, Alien 3 was released in 1992...and deemed a major disappointment after Alien and Aliens. Still, the movie earned a loyal fanbase in the years that followed, with many defending it as an underrated classic.
The story follows Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), who crash-lands on Fiorina 161, a bleak, prison planet. Her companions, Newt and Hicks, perish in the crash, and Ripley discovers that a Xenomorph has also survived. The prisoners and guards, lacking advanced weapons, must combat the creature with limited resources.
Things got really weird during the final act with the introduction of a human/Xenomorph hybrid, and the movie's original director - Deep Blue Sea and Cliffhanger's Renny Harlin - has now shared how his approach to Alien 3 differed in an interview with Slash Film (via SFFGazette.com).

Tom Cruise has always been an actor in the spotlight. If there is a role up for grabs, he would take it and turn it into one that would be remembered for a lifetime. He has done movies that have charted the box office like anything and those that bombed in the most unfortunate manner possible. Whatever the movie may be about, no matter how big or small his role may be, Cruise would always give his best.

None of the Alien sequels, prequels, and spin-offs have come close to matching Ridley Scott's 1979 classic. They also haven't touched James Cameron's sci-fi masterpiece, Aliens, released seven years later in 1986.
Filmmaker Fede Álvarez hopes to change that disappointing run of critical and commercial disappointments with Alien: Romulus, a movie which takes its cues from both Scott and Cameron's work. As you can see in the newly released images below, that aesthetic is one the director has leaned heavily into.
Talking to Total Film (via SFFGazette.com), Álvarez also confirmed he utilised similar practical effects to his predecessors, resulting in him getting advice from them both when it came to telling this story.
The latter reportedly consulted on the script during an "extensive" phone call with Álvarez and Alien: Romulus co-writer Rodo Sayagues. That included such minutiae as the size of the ship's engines!

Life’s a (permanent) beach for Pedro Pascal in a new Corona commercial titled “La Vida Más Fina (The Finest Life),” a play on the beer’s tagline “La Cerveza Más Fina.”
“I, Tonya” filmmaker Craig Gillespie directs the outrageous short film that captures Pascal wandering through bars, restaurants, and town centers as sand, flora, and fauna beckon him back to the beach. It’s very much a fantasy sequence considering the busy actor has no actual time to vacation.
Pascal will appear in Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II,” Ari Aster’s “Eddington,” and soon make his Marvel debut in the new “Fantastic Four.” Plus, he’s back for “The Last of Us” Season 2 — find a first look here. Oh, and did we mention that Pascal also is teaming up with Dakota Johnson for Celine Song’s romance drama “Materialists”?

While these are more space fantasy than true sci-fi, the genre's core purpose is to offer commentary on our present and possible future. Films like Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, and Ridley Scott's The Martian are exemplary in their scientific fidelity. However, one film stands out for its unparalleled accuracy: Ron Howard's Apollo 13.
The Story of the Failed, Yet Heroic Flight to the Moon
"Apollo 13" is not your typical sci-fi movie but rather a science space drama with fictional elements, dramatizing the perilous events of the April 1970 space mission. Directed by Ron Howard, known for films like Willow, A Beautiful Mind, and The Da Vinci Code, and written by William Broyles Jr. and Al Reinert, the movie meticulously recreates the dangerous mission.

Eric Bana has been a mainstay on the big screen for decades. The Australian comedian turned dramatic actor has been in everything from Ang Lee’s Hulk to Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down, J.J. Few directors reach the sort of stardom where their names are thrown on billboards. A Nolan or a Tarantino or a Peele become brands in and of themselves, while the other 99% bubble quietly under the surface; reliable journeymen, gallantly plugging away at the nuts and bolts of what used to be the mid-budget feature scene. These are the filmmakers who not only set the pace, but who change the very language of a genre too, consistently firing out exciting, crowd-pleasing, attention-grabbing stuff, year after year, decade after decade. Creative puppet masters living behind the scenes; their movies aren’t as stylistically loud, but their generation-spanning oeuvres are just as (if not more) legendary.
Don Siegel, J. Lee Thompson, Mary Lambert, Renny Harlin, Jonathan Demme, Doug Liman, John Frankenheimer – even just picking a handful of names at random gives you a who’s-who of filmmakers responsible for some of the most...

A24 has nabbed U.S. rights to “The Death of Robin Hood,” one of the hottest packages at this year’s Cannes. The Sherwood Forest-set film stars Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer and is directed by Michael Sarnoski, the filmmaker behind the critically acclaimed “Pig” and this summer’s “A Quiet Place: Day One.”
According to the official logline, the film will find Robin Hood “grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder.” Instead of the merry outlaw seen in certain previous versions of the story, like the one portrayed by Errol Flynn, this Robin Hood is “a battle-worn loner [who] finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman, who offers him a chance at salvation.” Production on “The Death of Robin Hood” is set to begin in 2025. A24 will release the film theatrically. Negotiations were highly competitive with several potential buyers circling the film.

When it comes to novels being adapted into movies and television shows, Stephen King’s name stands on a throne for the gripping horror stories. Each and every book finds a place within the fans and their adaptations too get a twist like no other. Having seen so many different adaptations, there was one that he kept urging Warner Bros. Discovery to make but to no avail, Salem’s Lot.

While his own works keep getting adaptations, so much so that the year 2019 saw 4 of his books being adapted. Seeing so many of his own books getting adapted. There is one particular novel by another author that he wants none other than Taylor Sheridan to make. Interestingly enough, Blood Meridian was once almost adapted by Ridley Scott.

Fede Alvarez’s (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) Alien: Romulus is set between the events of Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens, and Alvarez had explained to Total Film earlier this month that the film is something of a tonal fusion of the two classic Alien movies.
Alvarez teases, “The environments, and the pace of it as well – it’s more similar to Alien for quite a bit. And then gradually – you won’t even know – you feel like it’s more Aliens. It’s a natural progression, and it happens effortlessly.”
On that note, Fandango’s Summer Movie Preview brings us a brand new image from Alien: Romulus this morning, and you can certainly feel the Aliens vibes in this particular shot.
Check it out below and catch the franchise’s return in theaters August 16.
Here’s the full official plot synopsis for Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus...

Sci-fi production design may well have peaked with "Blade Runner." This quote from director Christopher Nolan is a favorite of mine, simply because of how well it sums up the way in which Ridley Scott's 1982 classic, despite its fantastical sci-fi aesthetic, constructs a world that feels real:
"The atmosphere of 'Blade Runner' was also important, that feeling that there was this whole world outside the frame of the scene. You really felt there were things going on outside of those rooms where you've seen the film take place [...] Every film should have its own world, a logic and feel to it that expands beyond the exact image that the audience is seeing."
Nolan has previously spoken about the importance of establishing a "cinematic reality" — evoking a feeling in the audience that what they're seeing, regardless of its factual accuracy, is really happening. It's a trick I think...

When it comes to whether AI is friend or foe, particularly in regards to its place in the film industry, David Cronenberg is both intrigued and terrified.
“What do we do? I have no idea,” the Canadian horror sci-fi maestro said Tuesday at the Cannes Film Festival, the day after the world premiere of his new film The Shrouds.
Cronenberg’s techno forward-looking yet eerily dystopian The Shrouds follows Karsh (Vincent Cassel), an innovative businessman and grieving widower, who builds a device to connect with the dead inside a burial shroud. There’s a moment in the film that deals with AI. Guy Pearce‘s character Maury, has set-up Karsh’s computer. Maury claims to live inside it, along with blonde Hunny the AI bot that does Karsh’s admin.
Diane Kruger and Sandrine Holt also star.
Cronenberg said today he is rather amazed at AI’s powers in filmmaking.

Heart-wrenching horror.
After kicking off May with discussions of Stephen Sommers’ perfect action-adventure-horror-romantic-comedy The Mummy (listen) and the iconic jump scare in the Audrey Hepburn-starring Wait Until Dark (listen), we’re delving into the real-life horrors of child sexual abuse in Gregg Araki‘s 2004 adaptation of Scott Heim‘s novel Mysterious Skin.
Mysterious Skin tells the story of how child sexual abuse affects the lives of two pre-adolescent boys in different ways. Neil (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) becomes a reckless, sexually adventurous sex worker, while Brian (Brady Corbet) retreats into a reclusive fantasy of alien abduction. The film is told in parallel narratives before culminating in a heart-breaking reunion that will change each boy’s life forever.
