The team responsible for the visual design and effects definitely deserves Oscar they won. About everything else... to me, this is mediocre and even a bit boring SF that does not deserve its cult status. And definitely overrated as a horror. I admit, I crapped my pants when I saw it for the first time, but as it was before I even got to elementary school that does not mean much. Today, I almost fell asleep in the middle. There was no fear, no suspension, no quality action and it fails as a drama too because it causes no emotions.
Average 6/10 - DirectorJames CameronStarsSigourney WeaverMichael BiehnCarrie HennDecades after surviving the Nostromo incident, Ellen Ripley is sent out to re-establish contact with a terraforming colony but finds herself battling the Alien Queen and her offspring. So much better than the first one!
After watching "Alien" I was thinking to give up on this franchise. Sequels, even good ones, usually cannot match originals, but this one is so much better than the first one that it is beyond any comparison. The story is much better developed, without idling, there are no two-dimensional characters, everyone is credible and persuasive and fun in their own ways. Big step up in visual and sound effects and overall atmosphere of the movie and, while "Alien" was pretty much boring to me, this movie kept me at the edge of the seat.
8,5/10 (within the genre it's pure 10/10) - DirectorJohn McTiernanStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerCarl WeathersKevin Peter HallA team of commandos on a mission in a Central American jungle find themselves hunted by an extraterrestrial warrior.More sentimental than a real value
I know I repeat myself, but... for its time and genre this movie is extremely well done. Behind this sentence usually goes pure 10 or at least 9, but let's be honest, this is Schwarzenegger in "Rambo" type of movie fighting against B-monster. However good it may be and as much as my generation was crazy about it in elementary school, because of "depth and exquisite artistic value" of this movie I can not put it up with masterpieces of cinematography. With stretching till breaking point I can not go over sentimental eight.
8/10 - DirectorStephen HopkinsStarsDanny GloverGary BuseyKevin Peter HallThe Predator returns to Earth, this time to stake a claim on the war-torn streets of a dystopian Los Angeles.Better than the first one
Since I started to maniacally watch movies few years ago, I realized that widespread opinion that sequels are as a rule worse than original movies is simply a prejudice without any foundation in reality. People mostly stick to their disappointments and use them to prove this prejudice, completely overlooking very big amount of sequels that are better then originals and huge number of those that are at least equally good. I think that in total score, sum of equal and better sequels overtakes number of lousy ones big time. This one is good example. It is hard to compare Predator and Predator 2, because, aside of Predator himself, those movies have nothing in common. They are hardly the same genre. But to me, sequel is incomparable better. Much deeper and more developed story, with more background, better characterization, more diverse action, much better acting... I gave 8 to first one, but it was sentimental stretch and rating within the genre, cause that movie left big mark in its time, while I rate Predator 2 unbounded to specific genre, so difference is essentially much bigger than just 0,5.
8,5/10 - DirectorDavid FincherStarsSigourney WeaverCharles S. DuttonCharles DanceReturning from LV-426, Ellen Ripley crash-lands on the maximum-security prison Fiorina 161, where she discovers that she has unwittingly brought along an unwelcome visitor.Underrated
"For within each seed, there is a promise of a flower. And within each death, no matter how small, there's always a new life. A new beginning. Amen."
I cannot find any positive reviews for this movie. Rated 6 and all reviews put it in the worst movies ever made. I liked it very much. It is a bit weaker than Aliens, but to me, it is better than the first one.
8/10 - DirectorJean-Pierre JeunetStarsSigourney WeaverWinona RyderDominique PinonTwo centuries after her death, a powerful human/alien hybrid clone of Ellen Ripley aids a crew of space pirates in stopping the aliens from reaching Earth."I used to be afraid to dream, but I'm not anymore. Because no matter how bad the dreams get, when I wake up it's always worse." - Ellen Ripley
This movie is terribly underrated. It is a common opinion that "Resurrection" buried "Alien" franchise, but I really cannot see any reasons for it. The movie has a different approach than its prequels, but in 20 years movie industry changed so much and it would be sad if it was the same. Honestly, although I think it is slightly worse than two previous sequels, I still prefer it to the original "Alien".

AndersonStarsSanaa LathanLance HenriksenRaoul BovaDuring an archaeological expedition on Bouvetøya Island in Antarctica, a team of archaeologists and other scientists find themselves caught up in a battle between the two legends. Soon, the team realize that only one species can win.Decent sequel
In my opinion, this is more than satisfying sequel to both "Alien" and "Predator" franchises. The set is awesome, action scenes are great, the plot is very interesting and I like it more than stories in any of previous Alien movies. All in all, very enjoyable.

It bored me so much that I have no inspiration even to criticize it...

2,5/10 - DirectorNimród AntalStarsAdrien BrodyLaurence FishburneTopher GraceA group of elite warriors parachute into an unfamiliar jungle and are hunted by members of a merciless alien race.In my opinion, this is the best movie in Predator franchise, counting crossovers with Alien too. I found fantastic review on IMDb:
"In a season of remakes, re-imagining's and sequels, Predators certainly lives up to what's expected of it. It's a re-imagining of the classic 80's action movie which had Arnie take the reigns as the leader of a super band of commando's being hunted by an extra terrestrial in the middle of the (jungle), and ended up spawning quite a franchise, consisting of a sequel, and 2 movie mash ups, the Alien vs. Predator films. Fans of the original and followers of the franchise can be forgiven for being weary of this remake (after all, I was), but believe me, Predators is the best in the series since the original.
Predators, as the name suggests, features more than 1, which alone makes you wonder how true to the original this will be. Well, the movie approaches this question in a strange way. First, it takes the original premise of a band of elite warriors being hunted by an unstoppable alien menace, and gives quite a unique and refreshing twist, delivering another band of elite warriors, but this time being hunted by 3 Predators, and on THEIR planet, rather than Earth. Then on top of this, Predators takes much of what made the original great; the cheesy dialogue, the big guns, the crude humour, and even some of the same great moments, and adds them in to give Predators its own unique style, while still paying a worthy homage to the classic. There are some direct references to please the original fans, but it's not spoiled by filling it with references that only the die-hard fans would understand like many other movies are. Most of the action scene's deliver and the fire fights are well done. The scenery of the planet is beautiful (though it's actually only Hawaii), and the movie generally has a good pace, despite some times where this falters. And I have to award bonus points for the movie's opening: it was a unique way of introducing us to the situation, and without giving too much away, it sucks you in, even if it is a little far-fetched.
But don't get too excited, the movie definitely has its problems. Some of the dialogue, especially of one character is just bad, and I'm still not sure whether or not it tried to do it purposely and just failed, or if the writers just scribbled down anything they could think of at the last minute. Then there's also some back-story and deeper meaning to the entire Predator universe and their scenario, which is nice, but at times it really drags on and takes the rest of the movie down with it. There's also one specific scene, which includes a homage to the original, but is ridiculous, and apart from the reference, it's almost laughable. One of the biggest things that got me though, and it may not annoy others, is the amount of Predator screeches and screams. It seemed as though every 5 minutes, another Predator was screaming for some unknown reason. Maybe he didn't hit what he was aiming for, maybe he trod on a sharp rock, or maybe his Predator wife left him and he's not taking too well, but any way I don't care what's happened, so please stop screaming at me! The casting is strange to say the least. Adrien Brody, trying to channel the essence of Schwarzenegger, and who would have been my last pick as an action hero, pulls off the role surprising well. Most of the actors perform satisfyingly, and the brief appearances by Laurence Fishburne and Danny Trejo are a nice touch. My only queries with the casting are that of Topher Grace. He spends the entire movie seeming out of place, not quite fitting in to the situation, and at no point is he even slightly convincing as the character he is meant to portray.
Predators was released with some big shoes that it knew it had to fill, and so instead of trying to outdo the original or be new and fresh, it uses what made the original great to its advantage. I must say kudos to Nimrod Antal for directing, and kudos to the make-up department, because they definitely outdid themselves with this project. Predators is a refreshing shot in the arm to a nearly dead franchise, and stands out in the ocean of movie remakes and sequels that Hollywood is churning out. For what it's designed to be, an action blockbuster popcorn flick, it definitely delivers." - cilersrealm - DirectorRidley ScottStarsNoomi RapaceLogan Marshall-GreenMichael FassbenderFollowing clues to the origin of mankind, a team finds a structure on a distant moon, but they soon realize they are not alone.Nothing special
If I understood right, this is Alien Origins movie, a prequel to the Alien franchise. It has the same feeling like Alien movies, but if you expect one more Alien movie you'll be disappointed. About half of the movie is introduction without much ongoing, while the majority of the action is placed in the last few minutes. Light SF adventure without horror elements we got used to in previous Alien movies. Visually well done, without many flaws, but also without special qualities. If you saw all the other movies in the franchise you should see this one too, it's not a waste of time, but if you skip it you won't miss anything special. I liked it, but I surely won't see it ever again.
7/10 - DirectorJames BusheStarsAdrian BouchetAmed HashimiSabine CrossenFollows a group of war-torn Templar knights who are put to the test against a strange beast that stalks the lands of England. This battle is what Myths and Legends are made of. An independent fan film.Awesome
This 27 minutes long independent fan film stands shoulder to shoulder with the original franchise and it is totally unbelievable what they did without the support of high budget studios. Smart choice of epoch made it possible to have very convincing scenery and costumes with minimal expenses. The movie is short, fast, and without any introduction or background story, it puts us straight to the action, and still succeeds to show pretty strong characterization. Without any doubt the best fan film I have ever seen.
8/10 - DirectorRidley ScottStarsMichael FassbenderKatherine WaterstonBilly CrudupThe crew of a colony ship, bound for a remote planet, discover an uncharted paradise with a threat beyond their imagination, and must attempt a harrowing escape.Better than Prometheus
"Covenant" is a direct sequel to "Prometheus", acting at the same time as origins movie and sequel, filling holes its predecessors left and rounding the franchise, but leaving more than enough space for new sequels to come. It's simultaneously slow and crowded, but everything works just fine. I'm not thrilled but I am very satisfied and, to me, it's better than "Prometheus".
