The TV show "Monsters" was on the air from 1988 to 1991 and consists of 72 separate twenty-minute "horror" stories. The series opens with "The Feverman", a dark story about a healer who, for high compensation, treats incurable patients from whom medicine has raised their hands, but the price he has to pay is even higher. The series is extremely low-budget, but despite all the limitations that lack of money brings, this episode is great. The premise is interesting, the story is well written with a strong message, and the characterization is incredibly good for a twenty minutes movie. The set design is simple but striking and the episode has a disturbing dark atmosphere. The only weak point of this episode is the very look of the "monster", but everything else is so good that this imperfection does not bother much.
8/10 - DirectorTheodore GershunyStarsMarilyn JonesPerry LangPamela Dean KellyHolly, the lead in a children's TV series, isn't the nice puppet she pretends to be.Creepy but lousy
Animatronic doll, star of a popular children's show, becomes self-conscious and, when it finds out that the show will be canceled, it does not stop at nothing to ensure its own survival on the air. To me, this doll itself is terrifying, as well as many shows of this type that we can see on channels for children. This episode only amplifies already existing creepiness of TV shows for kids and I believe that the very intention of the authors was to point out this issue. However, the episode is quite poorly realized.

He also falls for the beekeeper's mysterious, seductive vamp girlfriend. Why would anyone accept to air such a crap?!
In writing this might be a decent story, but what I just saw is simply terrible. The lack of a budget can justify many shortcomings, but for garbage like this it is not a good enough excuse. Literally everything in this episode, besides the idea itself, is disastrously bad, and acting can hardly be called acting at all.
3/10 - DirectorMichael GornickStarsJohn BolgerPage HannahRobert LansingCan the famous vampire hunter save his friend before his old enemy can kill the young man, or worse, turn him into another bloodsucker?Redundant
A classic vampire story, well-made considering the low budget, but good acting, directing and atmosphere can not cover essential flaws, such as the complete lack of originality, plot twist and point.
5/10 - DirectorDavid MischStarsTempestt BledsoeSteve HarperEd WheelerOne night each year the dead come back to life. A young zombie falls for his living female classmate but his hunger for human flesh and her prejudiced zombie-hunting dad stand in the way of their happiness in this horror comedy.Clever, but terribly done
On the surface, this episode seems ridiculous and terribly done, and if you don't pay attention to message it is trying to send, I believe you'll rate it 1/10. But if you look closer, this is an over-the-top parody of several social stereotypes. The episode criticizes hatred and fear of average American towards everything that's different, lightly recourse to weapons as a solution, racism, as well as various protesters. A scene in which a young zombie can not refrain from biting his living girlfriend is an obvious allusion to teenagers who are burdened with sex. All of this does not cover for the fact that the episode is terribly filmed, but because of the idea behind it, it can pass. Plus, the twist at the end of the episode is unexpectedly fun.
4/10 - DirectorRichard BennerStarsMeat LoafFranco HarrisBlack-Eyed SusanIn a right wing South American dictatorship on the verge of leftist rebellion, a mad U.S. scientist keeps the cadaver of a rebel alive to harvest its organs for his rich friends. But the undead rebel decides to get his organs back.Ghoul
I'm starting to wonder if there's any point in continuing with this series. Ideas for the episodes are mostly good, some of them quite original, but the episodes themselves look like they were written and filmed in one afternoon or have been made by complete amateurs who have never filmed anything before.
This episode is no exception. In some third world dictatorship, a mad doctor invented a serum that allows him to quickly and efficiently transplant the organs of executed revolutionaries to wealthy customers. Everything goes smoothly until one of the bodies receives an overdose of serum and wakes up to take his organs back. Based on this, you can assume that this could easily have been a terrifying horror or perhaps a hilarious comedy, but unfortunately, it is not. The only bright spot of the episode is Meat Loaf in the leading role.
4/10 - DirectorJeffrey WolfStarsDavid BrisbinLara HarrisMary Ann GibsonDale finds the private sanctuary of Fulton Pierce, a famous, dead, horror actor. Dale can see Fulton's image in the old make-up case that was owned by the actor, and his life soon goes down a dark road.Make up your mind
Mediocre writer researches the life of the greatest horror actor of all time in order to write the book that will make him famous. He wants to reveal the secrets that made him that great, but when he finally discovers the dark truth will he be able to control the power it holds.
Once again "Monsters" brings us an interesting idea and once again it wastes its potential. I must acknowledge quite a creepy atmosphere of this short film, but other than that it's pretty much lousy.
4,5/10 - DirectorMark RezykaStarsKin ShrinerRussell JohnsonBeth ToussaintA mysterious prehistoric capsule is found outside Reno, Nevada. Four scientists study it in their lab, but a lizard-looking monster hatches from it. With a heavy snowstorm raging outside, they must fight for their survival. Please, stop it, my brain hurts
The first episode was great, I rate it strong eight out of ten, and it misled me to believe this series has potential. But it seems that it was just a carrot on the stick. Every episode is worse than previous and I am beginning to hate my optimism and curiosity. I know that this kind of TV shows usually have some hidden gems, masterpieces you'll remember for life, but now I'm getting impatient.
Do you remember Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Imagine one of them has died and become a zombie. Now that zombie represents 65 million years old dinosaur, member of intelligent species with technology developed enough to go into hibernation and avoid the disaster that killed their primitive relatives. The ancient race wakes up and they're hungry, and paleontologists and archaeologists are at hand. This episode is so stupid that my brain hurts.
