- The Golden Camera is one of few better known TV awards in Germany. It had been initially given to honor national TV achievements. Since 1987 it was also given to international stars. In the nineties even more fields of entertainment and public interest had been honored including pop groups and organizations like for example 'Greenpeace'. Today there are no fixed categories the Golden Camera is given in.

1975
- On occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Golden Camera, there is no regular awards ceremony, only the audience award is given for which the Silver and Bronze Cameras are being introduced for the first time.
1982
- The audience award's question is not TV related asking for the 'Best Athlete' this year.
1985
- On occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the Golden Camera, all 200 past honorees are being invited.
1990
- Viewers are dialing in during the life broadcast to decide on the winner of the Lilli Palmer Memorial Camera, choosing from the pool of discoveries of the year.
1991
- The ceremony is postponed from 14 February because of the Gulf war.
2003
- Official nominations are being introduced for the first time.
2009
- The winners are announced at a press conference, no further ceremony is held due to the organizer Axel Springer AG pausing all festivities and receptions for 2009.
