- Charming 60-something José (Josef Abrhám) returns to Prague after 30 years living in Mexico, though he was convinced that he would never see his hometown again. He was persuaded by his deeply-religious Mexican wife Dolores (Dolores Heredia), who is convinced that only a miracle that might be fulfilled by Prague's famous Infant Jesus can help their daughter Penelopé (Aislinn Derbez) get pregnant, and the ideal time for this is Christmas. And when Ruda (Václav Postránecký), his friend from Prague, also insists, José agrees to return to the places he used to know and to the memories that they bring back--including his former Prague love Kveta (Libuse Safránková). It becomes evident that the Infant Jesus is not the only one capable of making miracles come true in Prague. Penelopé's longed-for conception is definitely not the only one.
- Can one justify trying escape from the realities of time, place, and human responsibility? This tale of two generations investigates the possibilities. Rufus (Jirí Schmitzer) and Churchill (Zdenek Novák) live through the seasons together, experiencing hope and desperation along the way. In a world limited by totalitarianism, they have chosen to live as outsiders, their decision blessed by humility and the courage of defiance. In spite of the fact that Churchill rejects commitments, his relationship with the fragile Gréta has produced a daughter. Rufus has a son by Katerina, and they try to lead a 'normal' life. The two fathers betroth their children to each other in the somewhat swaggering desire to confirm their own lifestyle. Young Gréta and Rufus grow up, and hope comes of their encounter years later - perhaps for themselves even if not for their parents. Perhaps for the viewer too.
- A young lawyer (Helena Dvoráková) receives a shocking task: her grandmother (Jaroslava Adamová) requests her to file divorce proceedings to dissolve her 60-year marriage from her grandfather (Pavel Landovský), who together with her helped raise the heroine in love and harmony. She does not wish to grant this request, but her grandmother is uncompromising. What is the strong reason? And why now? She proceeds as a detective, step-by-step, until finding the destructive power of long-past guilt. The marriage, lasting sixty years in spite of being affected by the tragedies of national intolerance, conceals a secret that is ultimately revealed.
